POINT/ LINE/ PLANE This model examines the repetition of the triangular unit with different sizes and angles. The first unit starts on the ground. By rotating the unit, the model create a nestlike shape. And it can be view in different view port.

The material, tree trucks, created a rough texture to the mass. Togather wiith the light coming from the hole, it created a heavy feeling.

The mass drawing shows the light getting down to underground by the pipes with different lengths to create different levels and size of lighting for the underground.

FRAME & INFILL This model is made of the square frame and the timber studs infill. With decreasing sizes of square frames, it creates goingto-one-point effect. The frames represent openness, while the columns create a closed and solid area.

SITE ANALYSIS The site was chosen to be another landing place for the tourists. Alos, it is chosen to be located away from the noise and the people to contribute to idea of secret.

CONCEPTACLE

The conceptacle is the composition of the point/ line/ plane, mass drawing and the frame and infill model. The frame and infill model constructs the main structure of the conceptacle. It examines the idea of hiding and revealing.
With the solid facade at the front, it hides the activities at the back. At the back, it is a open space, which is quite different fromt he front. The columns inserted into the structure creates some secret, closed and dark space.
SKETCH DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The sketch design keeps the idea of hiding and revealing by showing differences of the front and the back. The structure is developed to located on a slope to become one of the landing place for the tourists. Also, the open and closed area are to be more obvious.

A PLACE FOR KEEPING SECRET The secret is what we do not know and we need to find the answer by ourselves. The pavilion was designed to have three entrances that will lead to different location. There is only one entrance to the island, while the other two entrances will not let people enter the island. When poeple get off the ferry and land on the island, only if they get in the correct entrance, they will get on the island. The secret is, thus, to find the correct way to the island.

When people enter the correct entrance, they can get on the islad by a staircase. Also, a sitting place is designed in this open area fro tourists to taek a rest and have meal.

The pavilion is devided into three space: open, semi-open and close. Section AA shows that people can only go upstairs, a closed area with a small window looking out. Section BB shows the way people getting on the island. Section CC shows that people will enter a semi-open room, a room that can look out the pavilion.

When people get in the 1st entrance, they will go upstairs to a closed and dark space. There is a thin wondow for people to look out to see the people get on the island. People can choose stay in this room as a ding place, or can go out to find another entrance to the island.

In the model, the black color refers to a closed area, whilt the whit color refers to the open space.

REFLECTION
The whole semester exploration in this subject is a fascinating experience. The exercises of point, line and plane, mass and the frame and infill in the first half of the semester have encouraged me to explore more about the fundamental elements of architecture related to the above ground, ground and underground level. Moreover, the blog image exercises have broadened my design ability and are useful in learning from other’s design in order to improve my own design. Furthermore, the site visit in Herring Island is important for the final project. We need to incorporate our design in the island in the aspects of topography or activities, not just putting something on a place. With the conceptacle exercise, I explored the idea of secret by making the composition of the previous three model making and drawing exercise. The hardest work for me is the final project, a place for keeping secret. I need to transform my conceptacle into a real architecture by measurement. It is important to consider the human scale in measuring the stairs, the room size and height and so forth. To conclude, this subject introduced many methods and skills in designing and considering architecture that are very useful in my later studies.
