Pack No.5

THE ART BOOK

Introduction Hello, my name is Emma and I am a Graphic Designer and Artist. After having had several parents reach out for art project ideas for their children in the coming months I have decided to make a weekly pack with a few ideas for three different age categories. I have loosely grouped them into ‘Little ones’, ‘Bigger Ones’ and ‘Young Adults’. I will make these available once a week on the Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/ TheArtBookUK/ I will do my best to minimise mess and to only suggest ideas using materials that you may have at home. I will try my best to post in advance what materials might be needed for the next week in case that is helpful! If anyone would like to share their creations I will create a little board where masterpieces can be exhibited for the community to enjoy and celebrate! Please share this pack to anyone that might find it useful. I hope it can help anyone after a creative project in the coming weeks! If you need any help feel free to ask on the page!

Little Ones! Learning about emotion through Art! Lockdown isn’t easy so this week we are thinking about our feelings. This might be a big learning curve for some little ones but it starts a dialogue that might help calm down some challenging moments. For a more in depth list of what to do visit this fantastic page.

Water Shakers (Sensory activity and mess free!) We have had quite a few parents reach out for ideas for sensory ideas for their kids. How about a mess free sensory bottle shaker? You can either make one with liquid (we recommend you use super glue to firmly fasten the lid) or a liquid free option! Home made paint experiments (could get messy)! Are your little ones getting board of your usual paint supplies? Well look no further! There are some fantastic DIY paint experiments you can do at home to liven up lockdown craft time! Expanding Paint Bubble Paint

Bigger Ones! Make a Car! Although we can’t just nip to the shop to buy a new model kit did you know you can get very creative and build your own cars from your household recycling! You can find a great tutorial here and if you don’t have all of the materials use your imagination and make something you can power by pushing yourself! Don’t forget to show us your creations, we love seeing them! Design your perfect outfit! So we have tried out animation last week and product design in the project above so how about fashion design? What would be your perfect outfit, what materials, what colours? Would it have any hidden secret gadgets? Let your imagination run wild! Make a flick book! We had a go an animation last week but some of you might not have access to a camera, so for those of you who don’t or for those budding animators that want another challenge look no further! A flick-book can be simply made using the corner of an old note book (please ask permission first!) Or if you want to create something from scratch there are some more complicated ways you can produce a masterpiece here. PRO TIP: In this video they use a device to create a light box but a window during the daytime works just as well!

Adults and Teens! Artist Focus: JMW Turner JMW Turner is probably one of the UK’s best known artists. Today his name is used for the UK’s most prestigious Art Awards The Turner Prize. There are so many lessons that we could take from his work but one that we thought we could easily do in lockdown is to look at the colours we see in different times of the day. This is an exercise that many artists have undertaken but one that turners paintings of Norham Castle to the right illustrate very well. Turner painted the same scene at different times of the day to explore how the scene changes, the light, the colour, the atmosphere are all transformed. Have a go yourself! Colouring in! Nope its not just for kids! You may have seen the rise of the adult colouring book in recent years. Mindfullness or the act of proactively looking after our mental health has become far more mainstream. This bank holiday or in the coming weeks why not try to take some time out for your own head? Sit down and colour with the little ones or zone out one evening with a glass of wine! If you haven’t got a book of your own (I was given one for Christmas years ago that i had completely forgotten about) then you can find plenty of sheets to download print out for free. Draw your own hand! This may sound like an easy task but I assure you it is not! Place one of your hands in a easy to maintain position and really focus in on the shape and shadows. Our hands are intricate and complex which make them a fantastic challenge! We also usually neglect drawing hands when we draw people and they are often an aspect that many feel unconfident with.
