as Dalmarnock supplies East End
the spread of Dalmarnock’s agricultural produce
The farming community in Dalmarnock is unstoppable it seems as local produce is now even more readily available in Glasgow. Vertical farming has produced a huge boost to the areas yield and now many east end food markets are stocked with Dalmarnock grains, fruits, vegetables and cheeses. The widespread revival of the marketplace and
continued focus on sustainability has undoubtedly played a key role in Dalmarnock’s successes. Local innovations in agriculture and growing techniques as well as the continued expansion of the DFEC agriculture department has also ensured that the Dalmarnock farming scene is going from strength to strength.
A NEW CITY PROTOTYPE Cities worldwide follow Dalmarnock in the quest for sustainability
The Vertical Farm rises above the rooves of Dalmarnock. By structurally imitating plant growth towards the light, it exemplifies technological applications of natural processes. The small plot covered by the base frees up the area around for a variety of urban, artistic and collective activities, or as an open space for allotments, events, etc.
The Vertical Farm’s originality attracts visitors and urges them discover its inner workings. Although unable to replace traditional agriculture completely, this model is being replicated across the uk to supplement food production and bring urban communities together around a shared idea of sustainability.
