RIGENERAZIONE DI ROGOREDO The scope of this thesis involved the study, development, and research of a theoretical master planning book, and the application of the authors’ principles in the development of our masterplan, in a selected city. ((Milan, Italy). Through the analysation and interpretation of the theory, we were able to set goals and objective which were tangible with the readings’ principles. Workshops and seminars enabled us to develop our masterplan step-by-step with a magnifying lens towards the minimum details of the masterplan specialty. Initially, the empirical part of the study was led through a set of a comprehensive study of the city which enabled us to tackle the current issues on-site and justified our design decisions. “Theory of a good city form”, by Kevin Lynch was the most adequate theoretical book which aid to solve the economical and infrastructural gap between the city and the periphery. Several iterations and developments equipped the masterplan with design solutions that solved the lack of connectivity and recognition on-site(Rogoredo). The masterplan predominately focuses on creating a permeable neighborhood that connects two disrupted communities across a bridge that enables inhabitants to enjoy views of the masterplan. A mixture of buildings in the programme will also boost up the economy of the site, creating new jobs and facilities available for various people in a very safe and enclosed environment. Following the development of our Masterplan, the thesis instigated the development of a keyspace in the masterplans’ programme. The districts’ urban square has been developed to maintain and represent the theoretical readings on a smaller scale. The masterplan public realm displays key attraction elements that are only discovered once in the plaza.

FRAMEWORK

CENTRE

INTEGRATED, ATTRACTIVE AND ACTIVE CITY WITH NUMEROUS RECOGNISABLE LANDMARKS ACROSS THE CITY

RESPONSIBLE, SAFE AND FUNTIONAL

With the guide of “The Theory of a Good City Form” from Kevin Lynch, as the theoretical reading for the development, the masterplan's mains objectives were a reflection of the studied book in response to the current issues in the city of Rogoredo, Milan. Following the development of the masterplan, the theoretical book was the dictator of the design decisions in the public realm. The masterplan and public realm in this development enhance permeability, enabling users to be able to access key landmarks and logistic buildings through facilitated pedestrianised routes. Though the scheme provides many beneficial factors for the residents on-site, the masterplan and the public square were designed to create a safe atmosphere to be utiliesd by different age or social groups at any time of the day. By creating a series of mixed-use buildings across the scheme, the masterplan attracts various stakeholders and social category which will boost the economy of the city in the periphery of Milan.

The following section cuts through the proposed bridge of the masterplan. Access to the bridge is via the staircase in the square, with two electrical lifts available. The multi-activity bridge acts as a connection point between two split neighborhoods, but most importantly as a key space for locals and tourists to witness the new landmark on the periphery of the main city. Underneath the bridge, there’s a market designated for small vendors, and the local city farm to sell the local organic resources, which all relate to the sustainability of the development. Depending on the season, the bridge enables night activities, such as clubs to host events, creating dark and natural ventilation.
