Investments will help youth in GTA get jobs The Government of Canada is providing support for youth in the Greater Toronto Area to help them gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to enter and succeed in the job market. The announcement was made by Bernard Trottier, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke-Lakeshore, on behalf of Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development. “Our government’s top priorities are creating jobs, economic growth and long-term prosperity,” said Trottier. “The Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy is helping youth develop the skills and gain the experience they need to get jobs now and prepare for the workforce of tomorrow.” JobStart is receiving over $509,000 from the Skills Link program to help youth overcome barriers to employment. Skills Link is part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy (YES). Participants will develop their employability skills through workshops on topics such as computer skills, résumé preparation and job searching techniques. They will also gain

meaningful on-the-job experience in the highdemand construction, retail and automotive repair sectors. “JobStart is grateful for the funding granted by the Government of Canada that will significantly enhance our employment services for at risk youth in the Etobicoke area.” said Heather Sant, Executive Director of JobStart. “This project will help youth find work in the high demand sectors of automotive repair and maintenance, construction or retail or return to school to complete their high school education.” With an annual budget of more than $300 million, YES helps youth, particularly those facing barriers to employment, obtain career information, develop employment skills, find jobs and stay employed. Yorkdale Shopping Centre announces new expansion Yorkdale Shopping Centre, one of Canada’s leading shopping destinations, recently announced a new 298,000 square foot retail expansion that will be complete in the Fall of 2016. Construction of Yorkdale’s new retail expansion will begin in January 2014.

Ontario’s agri-food TORONTO TRUCK sector gets support DRIVING SCHOOL The federal and provincial governments are working to help Ontario’s agri-food industry grow profits, expand markets and manage risk through Growing Forward 2. “Our Government remains focused on jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Ontario’s agriculture industry,” said Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. “Through Growing Forward 2, we are working with Ontario’s hard-working farmers to ensure that the industry has the tools available to remain competitive and innovative in new and existing markets.”

“Ontario’s agri-food industry accounts for more than 700,000 jobs.” The governments of Canada and Ontario have signed a five-year, multi-million dollar bilateral agreement focusing on innovation, competitiveness and market development. It includes $2 billion for federal-provincial-territorial strategic initiatives, which is a 50 per cent increase in cost-shared funding. “Ontario’s government is helping our agrifood industry adapt to changes in the marketplace, respond quickly to challenges and seize new opportunities,” said Premier Kathleen Wynne. “By supporting this important sector, we are strengthening rural communities and building our provincial economy so that everyone can benefit.” Source: The Government of Ontario

Candidacy Status is a pre-requisite in the accreditation process authorized by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program (OTA & PTA EAP). This status is only achieved when education programs meet the high standards set forth by the OTA & PTA EAP. Candidacy Status means that the triOS program is formally affiliated with the OTA & PTA EAP and will seek full accreditation. “It is such an achievement to be the first Private Career College in Ontario to gain Accreditation Candidacy Status for our program,” said Wendy Churchill, Director of Academic and Employment Services. “I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our entire healthcare faculty – a team dedicated to excellence in education and helping our graduates succeed in the field,” Churchill added.
