Closing 31st October -
Don’t miss your chance to become a full time firefighter in Cumbria Cumbria County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service is inviting people to apply to become fulltime firefighters. Applications for the firefighter posts can be made online via cumbria.gov.uk/ JoinCFRS from 12 noon on Monday 17th October and the application ‘window’ will remain open until noon on Monday 31st October. Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting new full-time firefighters for the first time in eight years. The recruitment campaign forms part of the Service’s succession planning with a number of firefighters due to retire over the coming years. More than 250 people attended firefighter taster sessions held at a number of fire stations around the county, providing an opportunity for people to talk to firefighters about the role and have a go at some of the physical tests that form part of the firefighter selection process. Women and people from minority groups are being encouraged to consider a career as a firefighter. It is hoped the taster sessions will result in a broader range of applications which reflects the make-up of local communities in Cumbria. Cumbria’s Chief Fire Officer Paul Hancock said: “Working for a modern fire and rescue service offers a challenging, varied and rewarding career. We are looking for men and women who are fully committed to improving the safety of their community and willing to work effectively as part of a team.” The successful candidates will undergo rigorous firefighter training before starting work on one of the fire stations in the County. For more information and to complete the online application, go to

Apprentice Scheme at Cumbria Quality Care Cumbria Quality Care is a locally run domiciliary home care company which has recently expanded across Cumbria by taking over a branch in the Kendal area. Currently both branches of Cumbria Quality care have recently been found to be rated as “good” by the care quality commission, this is based on 5 different key functions. We have been found to be safe, responsive, Effective, caring and well led. At a time when the care industry has received a lot of negative press around the quality of care that is being delivered. We feel we have an excellent team of support workers who genuinely care for all of the clients that we help. This inspection shows that there are good care companies that can offer a service that can help families feel confident that their loved ones are being cared for in a way that they would expect. We have just finished moving into our new offices and due to our continued growth we are looking to start an apprenticeship scheme aimed at helping get people into work in what can be a very rewarding career. Company owner Sharon Baxter has been in the care industry for 15 years and wants to use her experience to provide a place to work where the staff feel part of the team and can develop their career within Cumbria Quality Care. We receive reviews from our clients through the home care site which we finished in the top 10 companies in the north west of England. With comments, such as “A million thanks for all the help and support you have given me and all the care for my mum too”. We aim to continue to provide an excellent standard of care across Cumbria.
