South Lakeland Mind is a successful and growing mental health charity (registered number 1143286) that supports over 250 people each year through Counselling and Peer Support delivered by a team of 6 staff and over 80 volunteers. Growing Well is a farm based mental health charity that specialises in a vocational approach to recovery. Based at Low Sizergh Farm near Kendal, the organisation is a registered training centre and the largest organic producer of vegetables in the county, employing a multi-disciplinary team of 14 people. Getting Cumbria to Work is a new project led by Cumbria CVS and funded through Building Better Opportunities that aims to provide support to individuals across south Cumbria to overcome the barriers to accessing and sustaining work. South Lakeland Mind is appointing a Peer Support Officer to work in partnership with Growing Well to enable 57 Getting Cumbria to Work clients to access the wide range of vocational opportunities (in horticulture, catering and administration) at Growing Well at Low Sizergh near Kendal. The Peer Support Officer will work with colleagues from South Lakeland Mind and Growing Well to encourage self and partner referrals (including organising taster days), engage new clients (including organising site visits) and provide one to one and group support to enable them to sustain their involvement. The Peer Support Officer will have experience of supporting clients to overcome mental health issues in a community setting, and ideally supporting clients to access employment and/or training, will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and vocational skills in catering and/or horticulture.
