Whatever he did, he maintained a good spirit
By Joseph Green-Bishop Elite News Staff Writer
Dr. C.C. Robertson said he felt the call to preach while serving in the Army in World War II. Dr. C. C. Roberson, the legendary pastor of the Bexar Street Baptist Church who was one of the founders of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America, has been called home by the Lord. He was 86 years old. Dr. Robertson, who was called to preach while a soldier in Europe fighting for freedom against Hitler’s Army, served the national church organization as its president. He is known as one of the most profoundly spiritual preachers in the country. He grew up in Calvert, Texas and moved to Dallas while a high school student. He studied at Bishop College in Dallas and at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. As a young man with a family, he took a night job and continued to study at night school. He served as pastor of Community Baptist Church in West Dallas for thirty years and moved on to Bexar when his father relinquished the pulpit. “Evangelism---that is my heart, he once said. “I love to share with others what the Lord has done for me. I love seeing people give their lives to Jesus. That is what really moves my heart.

A large part of Pastor Robertson’s ministry was his visits to members in hospitals. He often said that he if was not in the pulpit or his office he could be find in a hospital ward visiting someone who has become ill. Pastor Robertson was a member of the clergy for fifty-seven years and served the people of Bexar for nearly a quarter century. He adored the people of his church and they adored him. “Reverend Robertson was one of the finest people who God placed on the face of the earth, said William “Bill Blair, the founding publisher of the Elite News who was close to him for nearly half a century. He loved people and people loved him. He will be missed in Dallas and across the country.

The Obama Conspiracy
he recently published national monthly job numbers announcements were not thrilling. The figures showed that only 80,000 new jobs had been created in the month of June. The numbers should be much larger. Banks have money to lend, and job creators have access to capital but I believe that many of them are President Barack Obama holding back because they want to do everything that they can to embarrass President Barack Obama and his administration. There are some in this country who do not want to see him re-elected despite all that he has done to take our country from the brink of a financial collapse where it was placed by the administration led by a Texan who will go unnamed in this column. President Obama has proposed a massive public works program that would put millions of Americans, including firemen and police officers, back to work. But some in Congress have constantly opposed him because they do not believe that it is proper that a man of his statute and his hue should be in the White House as the nation’s leader. Let’s stop kidding ourselves. There are those in this country who do not like President Obama, oppose his policies and are praying for the day when he and his family leave the White House for the last time. Why, simply because of the color of his skin. Some of these people own businesses and they would rather see people out of work than to see the policies of President Obama successful. Look at the Senator from Kentucky, the majority leader, who pronounced shortly after the election in 2008 that he would work each day to defeat President Obama. Do you think that he has friends who are titans of industry? I do! Consider the Congressman from South Carolina who called President Obama a “liar” during a state of the union address. The remark was unprecedented in the history of our country. Politics is a dirty and rotten game and many morally damaged people are found in the political arenas. Some of them today are making it their business to un-elect a president. And one of their methods is the suppression of the number of jobs that are created. They don’t care that some cannot afford to feed their families and others are losing their homes. July 13, 2012

ecently great strides were made by the local church community as two powerfully influential women of God assumed roles of leadership in their respective church bodies. Mother Pia Haynes-Williams was installed as the 6th jurisdictional supervisor for the women’s department in the Church of God in Christ. Mother Haynes-Williams will preside over the ministries of thousands of women and young people in 230 congregations throughout northeast Texas. An honors graduate from North Texas State University, Mother Haynes-Williams is the eldest daughter of Bishop James Neaul Haynes, the senior pastor of the Saintsville Church of God in Christ and a leading national figure in the de-

nomination. For many years she has assisted her father in the ministry. The other gigantic step was taken when the African Methodist Episcopal Church announced that Bishop Vashti McKenzie would be coming to Texas to lead the denomination. The dynamic preacher, church builder and community organizer will bring her strong leadership style and vision to the lone star state. The first woman to become a Bishop in the 213 year history of the AME Church, Bishop McKenzie is a speaker who is sought the world over. She is also an accomplished author who grew her first church from 400 to 1500 members. Texas has been blessed with strong female church membership and leaders, but few can recall when two such women have been asked to provide leadership during such a crucial time in the life of the faithful. Like others, the Elite News, its publisher, its founder and its staff is looking forward to working with Bishop McKenzie and Mother HaynesWilliams. We think that great things are going to take place under their leadership. They are both very gifted, very spiritual and mothers of children. They know what it takes to lead others. They have toiled for a long time in the vineyards. Now, we shall witness the blossoming of their fruit.

Gratitude enables you to perceive ME more clearly and to rejoice in our Love-relationship. Nothing can separte you from My loving Presence! That is the basis of your security. Whenever you start to feel anxious, remind yourself that your security rest in me alone, and I am totally trustworthy. You will never be in control of your life circumstances, but you can relax and trust in My control. Recognizing there was a need to offer alternative activities for children and youth, Mt. Moriah wanted to be proactive in their attempt to create opportunities for young people to participate in sports. The first sport offered to young men was basketball. Today with over two decades of impact on the Dallas community, this outreach currently offers male and female, youth and young adult in the area of basketball, volleyball and golf. •Boys Youth Basketball (ages 13-18) •Young Men Adult Basketball (ages 18 and up) •Girls Youth Volleyball (ages 13-18) •Young Adult Women’s Volleyball (ages 18 and up) •Youth/Young Adult Golf (ages 13 and up) With a goal of developing young people through athletics, inspiring them to become Christ-like, building self-esteem and displaying Christian love for all team members, this ministry brings together both the young and the young at heart with a competitive Christian spirit. Today, 6 churches participate in the MMMBC league every year from February to August. On any given Friday during active season, you’ll find the R.D. Reed Activity Building packed with young people participating in organized sports. Further each member of the athletic ministry must abide by the following guidelines: •No Praise/No Play – Members are encouraged to attend worship services
•Exhibit a Christlike attitude, dedication, responsibility and accountability Rev. Jeff Anders of Greater when competing with Mt. Hebron Baptist Church one another speaks at Saturday’s event This ministry is focused on community outreach as well. During the summer months, this gym is open during certain nights of the week to other participating churches and neighboring children for practice session and scrimmage games. This past S.W.A.G. (Showing a Winning Atti-
tude through God) conference event was added. This event brought together all of the participants in the Athletic League and featured speakers, such as former Dallas Cowboy Charles Hailey, to help positively influence players. A vital part in the churches outreach efforts, the athletic ministry’s prayer is that all athletic experiences influence participants’in ways that encourage them to exalt God and edify the body of Christ. Future goals include involving more churches in the league creating a greater impact on the lives of young people.

Ask Dr. Hollie
Dear Dr. Hollie,
By Dr. Karen Hollie
I am 27 years old and I have 2 children. I had my kids when I was 18 and 20. I am an only child of two well-educated people. My father is 50 and he makes a six-figure salary. My mother is 47 and she makes close to that. I had a great childhood and had big plans for my future. However, when I was 17, I met “the man of my dreams”. When I graduated high school, I was 4 months pregnant. Of course, my parents were livid, but when I turned 18 a few weeks later, my boyfriend and I got married. Well, 9 years and 2 kids later, I find myself divorced and taking care of my children on my own. About 6 months ago, my mom suggested I quit my job, move in with them and go to school full-time. I gladly took her up on the offer, but now I am almost regretting it. They give me an allowance, and along with other money I have coming in, my mom makes me account for every cent. This I have no problem with. However, with that accounting, she knows too much of my business and wants to tell me how to live every aspect of my life. I do go out with my friends on occasion. She is there waiting up every time I come in. No matter the hour. I buy clothes, she tells me she doesn’t like the way they look on me. She has become my “advisor” on everything in my life, from the soap that I buy, to how I comb my daughter’s hair, to the car that I drive. I am very grateful for what my parents are doing for me, but all the extras are driving me crazy. How can I get my Mom to see that she is taking this too far? Grateful but Annoyed Dear Grateful, You must realize that a parent’s natural instinct is to guide, protect and direct; however, I know that it can be annoying for an adult child. Therefore, you should talk to them and see if that will help, if not, it may be something you just have to deal with. Some people subscribe to the principle that, “ they pay the cost to be the boss.” My advice to you is make the changes that are requested and relish the great opportunity you’ve been afforded.
Dr. Hollie is a Pastor and practicing psychotherapist in the city. For questions and comments, please write to askdrhollie@aol.com.

More than Fellowship
Acts 2:41- 47 41” Those who accepted his message were baptized and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42The Fellowship of the Believers 42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.44All the believers were together and had everything in common.45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
There are many who have become familiar with the Greek word ’koinonia.’ The most common thing people say is that it means "fellowship." I ask you to keep that thought in mind as we go through the lesson. I want to start with a short story about something terrible that happens to some Romanian orphans and a real medical condition many of them suffer from. In Romania, and in many Eastern European countries, there are so many orphans institutionalized that there is not enough food or medical supplies or staff members to take care of them. The babies, often past toddler age, are still

kept in diapers and placed in cribs because there’s no other way to take care of them. They are lifted out to be fed and they infrequently have their diapers changed. There is no real physical contact with other humans, especially any of the cuddling and holding that babies need to develop normally. They end up in semi-catatonic states and often die from a lack of human contact. This condition is called “failure to thrive syndrome.” We need to understand that “failure to thrive syndrome” can happen in our spiritual lives. It can be avoided and it can be cured. But, prevention doesn’t happen by itself. The key to avoiding this spiritual disease is through fellowship. But, fellowship is much more than what you may think it is. We can see what I mean in today’s passage. It is the prescription against “failure to thrive syndrome”. You will find it in Acts 2:41-47. "So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and there were added that day about

Prayer Closet By Rev. Clarence Henderson
Prayer and Praise in the Prayer Closet gives one a sense of security. Try it and you too will declare that the safest and strongest protection we have in it is in the will of God. David’s Prayer and Praise in Psalms 9:7-12 encouraged me to trust in what God willed in his word. I also learned to trust the name of God. Look at the language David used, “And those who know your name will put their trust in you, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you” As I read those words, I’m reminded that God forsook his son for us. Jesus said from the cross, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46) Has it ever occurred to you that the only person that God ever really forsook was his son? three thousand souls. And they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. And everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. All those who had believed were together, and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions, and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. And day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved." Basically, you can take this passage as the definition of the Greek word ‘koinonia.’ In the church today, we often take for granted what the word "fellowship" means. We too often think of potluck dinners and ice cream socials. We see here in verse 42 of Acts chapter 2, one form of the word fellowship that does not mean what we may usually think. “They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship.” Amen! Fellowship here is from a Greek word “koinonos” which is where we get “koinonia”. It means to be a sharer, a companion, one who is a par-

taker, a participant in communion. Maybe we can answer the question of what is fellowship if we know what it might look like in our lives or what we might experience as a result. What should we experience when there’s true fellowship? Verse 43 tells us: “Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.” What do you picture in your mind when you hear that verse? Do not you wish we could have that kind of thing taking place today? There is no reason why we should not still be experiencing this kind of fellowship. The truth is, we can still experience; signs and wonders and awe inspiring things in our church today, if we devote ourselves to true fellowship. Let us ask the question again. What should we experience when we have true fellowship? We see more in verses 44-45: “And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.” Maybe you noticed some familiar words in these passages to what I’ve already discussed. Do you see “together” “common” “sharing”? This is the same as the definition of the Greek word “koinonos.” If you would like entire message please request it at: revelations_75044@msn.com

Kickin it at Jerky’s in Montego Bay
Welcome to the weekend, Baby! I must be honest with you. Your vacation may be detrimental to your success! After nine days and eight nights split between Montego Bay and Negril Jamaica, my attitude changed. When I got back to DFW, I realized that working was not for me, at least not in the conventional sense, lol!!! My only desire was to eat, lay on the beach, sip tall cool drinks, swim and take naps. We arrived back in the states on Sunday, July 1st about 10pm, totally relaxed. After eating well in "JA", our 1st stop was Burger King for some

good old American fast food. This trip was different, as we'd not visited Jamaica since Oct. of 2010. The anticipation was extra high and we'd got a great deal on our flights!!! One of our church members in the DFW lives for two months each Summer in his Montego Bay home and volunteered to pick us up from Sangsters International Airport, show us around and put us up for our 1st night in Montego Bay. The only catch was that his place was being updated and it would be like camping out, lol! I told my wife and we agreed that this was so nice of him that no matter what, we would not complain about "camping out". Well this brotha, who is so mild mannered and quiet at church turned out to be "The General" in Jamaica. After getting a Lime phone sim card

for my unlocked phone, our tour began with us being shown two beautiful 3 story mansions he'd bought over the last 30 years and converted into two Bedroom furnished apartments. We were excited as we toured both, hoping we'd avoid camping and stay in one of the furnished units, lol. Alas, it was not to be. "The General" responded we were staying with him! My mind immediately went back to "camping out." Well it turned out tat "camping out" was the fully furnished top floor of a 3 story, 10 bedroom showplace in the mountains, with a view of Montego Bay from his back porch to die for. After settling into our piece of paradise, we toured the city and ended up for dinner at "Jerky's," a neighborhood spot in the trendy Bogue district of Mo'Bay. Then as we ate some really good "Jerk" chicken and pork, sipped Red stripe and Rum Punch, plus that DG Grae soda, a sound system from Kingston (4 hours away) the country's capitol showed up! They gave out CDs and blasted the artists’ music from the CDs, then surprise, the artists on the CDs popped out of another vehicle and started per-

We were blown away and our hosts, "The General, his brother Magic Mike aka Tony and Issacs "The Poet" were in the groove with us! We eventually headed back to Clarence AKA the "The General's" home. My wife crashed, while we fella's hung out on the back porch, enjoying the breathtaking view, eating mangoes and carrying on a lively conversation til 1am. The next morning we were getting ready to head back to the Airport, where we'd be picked up by Joe Cool Taxi for our trip to Negril, our ultimate destination. Negril is known as the Capitol of Casual". Before we left Clarence surprised us with a great healthy, yummy breakfast. His property had so many fruit and veggie trees/plants and he wanted us to sample real Jamaica... It was all good, but the best thing we tasted was the Bread Fruit, picked from one of the trees on his property. Breadfruit looks like a giant green coconut, but when roasted and fried, it's like thin sliced potato pancakes. Lord have mercy, lol! The fresh, no additive orange juice, the many(not just the one or two store typeswe see)kinds of mangoes and fresh no pesticide bananas were off the chain. Then it was time to head to the airport and connect with our ride to Negril. In the future, we'll be splitting our time between Mo'Bay and our other fave "JA" spots. Oh, I forgot to mention, our DFW area church brotha and I talked about the possibility of creating some mini tours of Mo'Bay...After all, he owns the nice places to stay, has transportation available and access to personal chef's and drivers...Sounds like I may be doing some business in Jamaica, come 2013! That was our 1st 24 hours....As we headed to the Airport, we felt immensely blessed, seeing Sam Sharpe Square, visiting the hood(Flankers), rolling of the Queen's Road and having made a new friend from my church here in DFW... The Seared Diver Scallops, Roasted Corn Elote, Citrus Achiote, Key Lime and Green Tomato Slaw was wonderful. The scallops were seared to perfection and perfectly paired with a sauce that teased your taste buds and left me wanting
more. The elote and slaw perfectly rounds out the dish. Changes to the menu are no problem when your palate requires a different pairing. The Wood Roasted Beef Tenderloin with McPherson Sangiovese Butter works extremely well with the Roasted Poblano Jack Cheese Grits. Every bite of the tenderloin and the grits melt in your mouth with the richest buttery taste. When you want upscale, remember to make your reservations early and be prepared to be pampered and served by the wonderful staff at Abacus! Dallas Fine Dining - Abacus - 4511 McKinney Ave Dallas, TX

Blade Runner Elite News Sports Writer
London will be very interesting this summer. This years Olympic games will feature all types of competitors from all over the world. But there will be one competitor that you won't be able to miss. Dallas -Fort Worth meet my talent of the week Oscar Pistorius"Blade Runner." Oscar Pistorius is a South African sprinter known as the "Blade Runner" and " the fastest man on no legs," Pistorius, who has a double amputation, is the world record holder for sport class T44 in the 100,200,400 meters events and runs with the aid of Cheetah Flex-Foot carbon fiber transtibail artificial limbs by Ossur. In 2007, Pistorius took part in his first international competitions for able- bodied athletes. However, his artificial lower legs, while enabling him to compete, have generated pails that he has an unfair advantage over able-bodied runners. The International Association of Athlics Federation amended its competition rules to ban the use of " any technical device that incorporates springs, wheels, or any other element that provides a user with an adavantage over another athlete not using such a device." The federation claimed that the amendment was not specifically

aimed at Pistorius. After monitoring his track performances and carrying out test, scientist took the view that Pistorius enjoyed considerable advantage over athletes without prosthetic limbs. On January 14, 2008 the IAAF ruled him ineligible for competition conducted under its rules, including the 2008 Summer Olympics. This decision was reversed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on May 16, 2008, the court ruled there was no evidence that Pistorius had any advantage over able bodied athletes. Although eligible to compete in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, Pistorius did not qualify for the South African team. Despite achieving third place and a personal best time of 46.25 second in the 400 meters in Lucerne, Switzerland in 2008, this was short of the Olympic qualification time of 45.55 seconds. He was not selected to 4 x400 meter relay team because four other runner ran faster times. At the 2008 Summer Paralympic he took gold medals in the 100, 200, and the 400 meter sprints. With his 400 meter time of 45.07 he achieved the "A" qualifying standard for the 2011 World Championships and 2012 Summer Olympics. This is a great story, but let's not forget this guy can run! Pistorius competed in a number of able-bodied races in the summer of 2011 and posted three times under 46 seconds. In lignano, Italy he set a personal best of 45.07 seconds in the 400 meters attaining the World Championships and the Olympic Games 'A' standard qualification mark. I can't wait to see Oscar run this summer. It will be a real special moment wil he approach the starting line. But let's see how special it will be it the "Blade Runner" wins!!!!! Good Luck Oscar!
