Why is the Government not taking the lead in making it easier to start businesses and put people back to work? It’s no secret that many American workers are struggling. Global competition is increasingly intense. Median household income has fallen in recent years, despite a growing economy. Meanwhile, middle-class workers bear a larger share of the tax burden. More surprising, is that the tax code’s special breaks for multinational corporations exacerbate these problems. www.Fairtax.org Although it is fairly easier to blame everybody else for our fallen economy, I think it’s time to look at ourselves and the life we have chosen to live. Stop blaming the Government, Immigrants; Teachers etc… start taking responsibility for your own life choices. ‘ The way you manage your life’ Why have we stopped being so productive in America? Where did the values, morals, and work ethic of our ancestors go? Why are American children so lazy? Whatever happened to our two-parent homes?

As a Latin American myself, I too am to blame for my fallen economy. I was brought up with all of the above, but forgot to implement it in my children. I am a modernized parent of 4?? I do not blame the immigrants. I blame the Americans for not stepping up and taking the job. Greed and Pride won’t let us! More important, is that many immigrants, like my own immigrant father, nearly a century ago, brought family values and work ethic to our community that enriched it in numerous ways. Without the imported wisdom of citizens like these, I wonder how our country can fulfill its desire to lead the world as innovators in both institutions and communities. ‘Where productive people, regardless of language or ethnicity, seem welcome’

We have all inherited a commitment to family and work. In my case, my intrepid immigrant genes benefit my career. I am aware that we all need assistance in reaching our desired goal in life and I am more apt to give it, regardless of race or gender. Where are all of the American Made Fabric, Cars, Plastic, Jewelry, Hair Weaves, Cotton, Farms, Corporations? What happened to Bartering? We are intelligent Americans, so why can’t we become Productive Americans like our ancestors once were?

As public awareness of food origin, safety, sustainability, and nutrition grows, farmers' job descriptions are being transformed. An increasing number of today's farmers are no longer content to remain in the background as anonymous food producers. Rather, these modern-day soil soldiers crusade to keep the earth and its people healthy and thriving. The drug industry has taken a toll on our health and livelihood. Instead of looking for the next ‘fix it for me’ pill… why don’t we look for a healthy natural alternative for our illness, Give American Farmers the ability to survive while not assisting the pharmaceutical giants of America. Submission by: Tanya McGee Executive Summary Introduction Fortress Academy for Youth Empowerment (FAYE) was formed for the sole purpose of preventing delinquency and decreasing the high school drop-out rate among young Black males in the Southern Dallas communities; males between the ages of 12 – 25 years, not in the juvenile or correctional systems and; redirecting those males already labeled as “at-risk” in this area. At FAYE we want to ensure that the young males are not passed through the public school system and yet leave unprepared for post high school life. The Organization FAYE was formed in 2010. The management team consists of a three-member board of directors including the Executive Director. Shortly, as programs are developed, we expect to employ full-time predominately male professional staff. ServicesFortress Academy for Youth Empowerment, “aka FAYE” will offer a structured program that will help direct boys, ages 12 to18 years, toward a path that enables them to achieve their goals, pursue careers, avoid criminal and social misconduct and become productive and valued citizens in their own community. The Market In Dallas, the ninth highest populated city in the United State with very diverse communities, the demographics of Southern Dallas include low income and single parent households, which have high crime and high school dropout rates. Research show males in this area who are not supervised or do not participate in structured afterschool and summer programs are more likely to enter the juvenile and corrections systems at an early age and remain entrenched in the justice system throughout much of their adult lives.

The City and County of Dallas invests a considerable amount of money into programs aimed at combating truancy, drug abuse, delinquency and incarceration of boys. However, these programs only address boys referred to or processed through the juvenile system. Dallas needs programs that offer prevention rather than programs that “treat” these issues as they occur in the legal system, where the costs are already astronomical monetarily and the cost in lives lost are extremely high as well. Although, there are a number of organizations for males who are not in the criminal justice system, the South Dallas area is still underserved and in need of a “home-spun” esteem and success building program. How Not to Charge Your Customers Firms like Facebook and Twitter are rigorously scrutinized in the media for not charging their users access to these platforms. Many critics argue that since both social platforms have millions of users, they should be able to charge a few dollars for every user and generate hundreds of millions in revenue. We'll analyze what would happen if they did charge their customers and what you can learn from how to properly charge your customers if you provide free services. Facebook and Twitter are undoubtedly two of the fastest growing services ever. Their ability to connect people in ways that were not possible before has provided our society with a new means of digital and real time communication that provide us with a social element of always being "connected". Aside from being great services, the single factor that allowed both Facebook & Twitter to grow as big and as fast as they did, is that these services are free to its users. Now that both platforms have hundreds of millions of users and are both unprofitable, many argue that it is time for them to start charging access and use of the platforms. Charging your free user base may be a very costly mistake for firms like Facebook and Twitter as we'll show in the following example: For the sake of this example, let's assume that Twitter currently has 200 million users and makes $300 million in advertising revenue (which is close to Facebook's ad revenues). Let's assume that Twitter decides to charge all users $1/year. What would happen to their # of users? I would estimate that easily half of Twitter's current users would cease to use the service, especially if you think of the number of people who have subscribed to Twitter, but are not active users.

So now Twitter has 100 million users, each paying $1/year providing Twitter with $100 million in revenue. What about their advertising revenues? With 200 million users, Twitter was earning $300 million in ad revenue or $1.50 per user. Advertising revenue isn't a direct correlation to the number of users. Meaning that with only half as many users, Twitter will not simply only get half of their $300 million of advertising revenue. There are several formulas to determine the "network effect", but for the sake of this example we'll use the following formula (N*Log(N)), where N is the number of users. This f o r mu l a should be standardized to the current value of the network which we established as $300 million per 200 users or $1.50 per user. I will spare you the math for this example, but the value of the Twitter network from the advertising revenues is now only $130 million, a far cry from the $300 million they were earning with 200 million users. If Twitter is able to extract $100 million in subscription revenue from its 100 million users and is able to obtain $130 million in advertising revenue, their total annual revenue is now $230 million, $70 million less than their $300 million they were earning from just advertising with their 200 million users. This brief example of charging users access to a free service demonstrates the difficulties that not only Facebook and Twitter have, but also newspapers have in trying to sell their information that consumers have received for free since the advent of the internet. So what should firms like Facebook and Twitter do to increase their revenues to become profitable and what should you do if you provide free information or services? The answer is to price discriminate. Find ways to charge heavy users of your service, much like internet providers such as ATT have been doing to users who exceed monthly bandwidth restrictions. By continuing to provide free access to users who value basic use of the service and charging high users, you can effectively get the best of both worlds and increase your revenues without sacrificing the number of users.

Deduct 100 percent of the health insurance premiums for your entire family. If you employ your spouse in your business, you may cover him and deduct the entire premium as an employee benefit.

Deduct an office in your home. If you regularly and exclusively use part of your home to perform administrative or managerial activities for your business, you can claim a home office deduction for utilities, rent or mortgage interest, depreciation, phone use, cleaning, and the like. More consumers are likely to join the ranks. It can take several months before payment missteps actually drive down a credit score. It is estimated that about 26 million people are out of work or underemployed, and millions more face foreclosure, which alone can decrease an individual*s credit scores by 100 points or more. Once the damage is done, it can take years before these individuals credit scores can be restored, even if they had strong credit histories in the past.

Lower Credit Scores on The Rise Submitted by: Ray Williams Recent figures provided by FICO Inc. show that 25.5 percent of consumers - nearly 43.4 million consumers now have a credit score of 599 or below, marking them as poor risks for lenders. It's unlikely they will be able to get credit cards, auto loans or mortgages under the tighter lending standards banks now use. Because consumers rely so heavily on debt to fuel their spending, their restricted access to credit is one reason for the slow economic recovery. FICO's latest analysis is based on consumer credit reports as of April 2010. Its findings represent an increase of about 2.4 million people in the lowest credit score categories in the past two years. Before the Great Recession, scores on FICO's 300-to-850 scale weren't as volatile. Historically, just 15 percent of the 170 million consumers with active credit accounts, or 25.5 million people, fell below 599.

On the upside, the number of consumers who have scores of 800 or above has increased in recent years. At least in part, this reflects that more individuals have cut spending and paid down debt in response to the recession. Their ranks now stand at 17.9 percent, which is notably above the historical average of 13 percent, though down from 18.7 percent in April 2008 before the economic meltdown. There's also been a notable shift in people with scores between 650 and 699. The new data shows that this group comprised 11.9 percent of scores. This is down only marginally from 12 percent in 2008, and reflects a drop of roughly 5.3 million people from the historical average of 15 percent. This group is significant because it may feel the effects of lenders' tighter credit standards the most. Consumers on the lowest end of the scale are less likely to try to borrow. Though, people with mid-range scores that had been eligible for credit before the meltdown are looking to buy homes and other consumer goods are finding it difficult to qualify for affordable loans and credit. Studies have shown FICO scores are generally reliable predictions of consumer payment behavior, but there is one drawback of credit scoring: lenders can't differentiate between two people with the same score. Another consumer might have a 679 score because of several late payments, which could indicate he or she is a bigger repayment risk.

2x Leukemia Survivor Last year I formed a team for the Light the Night Walk in San Antonio for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I had several friends and co-workers participate in the walk and with the donations that we received, our team well exceeded our goal. This year, we hope to do it again! I am celebrating six years post bone marrow transplant this year and 10 years from my first diagnosis. I will never forget the first day I was diagnosed. I went into the hospital 3 days earlier because I wasn’t feeling well. The doctors did several tests but none of them were pinpointing exactly what was wrong. Finally after the doctor ordered a bone marrow biopsy, the results were crystal clear. I felt rundown for several weeks; maybe even a month but the moment I was given the news that I had Leukemia, I was told that I had to make a decision on where I would be treated and that I needed to start aggressive chemotherapy immediately. From there it seemed as if my life was in fast forward mode. When it stopped, I was in a hospital with tubes and needles and machines and feeling worse than the first day I went in. I had several years of trying times, but throughout all of my treatment I tried so hard to have a positive attitude. I knew that I had to be optimistic and not let the cancer consume me. I’m not going to say it was easy, but I did it! I beat this horrible monster called Leukemia. Now I am determined to help others that are going through the same experience. That is why I have agreed to chair the Family Team Committee for the 2010 Light the Night Walk. The family teams have already grown in numbers this year which is very exciting!
