Refreshing Your Vision For Christ Timothy 1:3-8 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. Recalling your tears, I Henry Nelson long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
H
e is a newly graduate Bachelor of Theology majoring in Missions under the careful watch of his mentor and the dean who is holding a doctorate in law and philosophy. His heart and mind is full of visions and dreams for his organization and for his church. He is young and energetic though little bit formal and short spoken guy. He used all his theological and theoretical knowledge to deal with all the challenge and problems of leading pioneering missions called the Church of Ephesus. But Pastor Timothy as they called him realized later that it takes more than training and theological knowledge to lead a church. His young age, a deteriorating health and the huge responsibility is gradually fading his
vision, killing his passion and eating his energy. Paul had to write his second letter to renew Timothy’s vision for the church. It is good to have spiritual leader who is sensitive enough to feel the need to refresh our vision and help us realign our discourage heart. You may never be a pastor of a church like Timothy. But if somewhere along the way, discouragement finds its way to darken your vision for whatever endeavor you are doing for God, for your family or for your country, so then this message is right also for you. You need to refresh your vision and rejuvenate your heart and mind. God’s purpose for the church is also relevant to the purpose of our lives. Let me give you an example. Angeline is a nurse while her husband is a construction worker. They are happy family as they are both faithful and they love each other and they have two kids. However, they have a dream and it is to build their own house because they are just renting an apartment. Angeline went abroad to help her husband raise the money for their dream house. But while working in one hospital in the Middle East, Angeline met David a handsome Medical Technologist. It did not take a long time and Angeline forgot all about her dream house and a happy family. Her dream had melted because of new found relationship with David. One day, some of her friends informed her husband in the Philippines about her secret relationship and this cause her family to break down. After few months, she received a call that one of her kids died due to Malaria. On that point Angeline realized her mistake and decided to stop her wrong relationship with David. She went to a church for counseling. The pastor

told her to renew her old vision for her family. She would have to humble herself; ask forgiveness to her husband and to build her family again. Amen! I do not know on what stage your situation might be today. But this New Year, I encourage you to refresh your original vision for God and for your family before it’s too late. Let us study the word of encouragement of Paul to Timothy to renew his vision for God. God has a vision for the Church and it should be also our own dream for our personal lives as we grow closer in our relationship with God. 1. A VISION TO GIVE GLORY TO GOD IN WORSHIP 2nd Timothy 1:3 says, “I thank God Whom I worship with a pure conscience, in the spirit of my fathers, when without ceasing I remember you night and day in my prayers. “ Amen! Worship is more than attending a mass or a worship service. Worship is a way of life. It is how you conduct yourselves and behave even in the secret of your own room as Paul said; I worship with a pure conscience. Worship is the very reason why God created us with the capacity to choose between good and evil. God made us with free Will so that you can choose to love or disobey Him. You are not a robot or a computer which will follow whatever program was installed to it. God will be happier to receive your love and obedience if it is from your own decision to love and obey him and this is what is called worship. Amen! Did You Come Out Monday for the DFW Elite News Martin Luther King Jr. Parade – the Largest In the Nation? By: Bettye "Katt" Williams
W
ow! What an exciting Monday! So you don't know what I am talking about? Well that means you have missed the largest Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in the Country hosted by the DFW Elite News. The 26th Annual Elite News MLK Parade started at 10 a.m. in sunny South Dallas. That morning before the parade started, Elite News held a VIP Breakfast Program for the Parade Marshals, Dignitaries, Sponsors, and other VIP guests who were invited to participate. Elite News acknowledged all the sponsors and marshals with awards and gifts. We were all privileged to hear Nucleus Johnson’s rendition of one of Martin Luther King Jr.’s speeches. The 1.6 mile long parade route, in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, started at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Lamar Street in Dallas, and ended at Fair Park. Thousands of people surrounded each side of MLK Blvd. From new born babies, in their mothers arms, to senior citizens of all ages gathered to see and make history once again to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Elite News anticipated about 200 groups that signed up to participate, which included floats, marching bands, color guards, drill teams, clowns, vehicles, walkers and more, but over 100 more showed up to enter in the celebration which ended up making the parade a little longer than expected. But even with the over flow, the Elite News annual parade was a success. There were 25 floats, 22 bands, 300 entries, and an estimated 275, 000 onlookers. Along the route, I stopped to ask different people what MLK Day meant to them. Was it just a day off for some of those who had jobs? Did they know who MLK was? What was the purpose of making MLK a national holiday? Many young and old had the right reason and answers for each question. For those who didn't know or have an answer, I

helped them out and told them that Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday held on the third Monday in January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an influential African American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transportation and for racial equality in the United States. After I told them that, they understood why there is a Martin Luther King Jr. parade. After all the excitement, seeing all the cars, floats and people, everyone headed down to the State Fair grounds for the Elite News festival in Fair Park's Tower Building which was free to the public. The festival featured a health fair, a gospel concert, poetry and storytelling performances, a fashion show, vendor booths and lots of activities for the kids. Thousands of people filled the isles of the Tower building to see vendors who were in and outside of the Tower Building, the kids’ zone with bounce houses, games and music, the health information booths that gave you information about things like the new Parkland Hospital to how to prevent Aids. There were many other information booths along with live broadcasting from local radio stations. On the far end of the building you heard talents from local and out-of-state musicians. In between the entertainment ses-

an we as Christians pass the test of the
almighty God? We are not asking the question can you pass God’s tests, but will you? You see, as a child of God you know that “you can do all things through Christ who streghthens you”. In order for us to pass God’s test, we must be willing to do what God brings to us as a test. You see God knows just how much we can bear, but we do not know how much we can bear, that is where the song came from. You see, sometimes God tests us in order that we might know how much we ourselves can take or bear, and when we are tested by God we learn something about God that we never knew before. We become stronger in our faith, we grow in His grace. In verse (1) the bible says; “ after these things God tested Abraham.” What was the writer referring to when he pinned these words? It appears that there existed a connection a connection in Abraham’s life between the events prior to his testing and to examine three significant happenings in chapter 21. First of all, God had blessed Abraham and Sarah with their first son in their old age, his name was Isaac. Secondly, Hagar, Sarah’s Egyptian slavegirl who had given birth to Abraham’s first son, Ishmael, was sent away from Abraham and Sarah’s household with his first son. But the bible makes plain, “God was with the boy, and he grew up.” Thirdly, Abraham and Abimelech, a Philistine commander made a covenant with one another, and Abimelech affirmed that God was with Abraham in all that he did. If we have noticed, there is a one-word common denominator running through each of these “pre-testing” events-blessings. I know I am right about this! Abraham’s life was blessed by God. God blessed Abraham with two sons in his old age. God blessed Abraham’s first son born out of wedlock. God blessed Abraham’s relationship with would-be-enemies. There is a key point emerging from verse
www.dfwelitenews.com
(1). After God had blessed Abraham with more than he could have ever dreamed, GOD TESTED HIM. What does this tell us? It simply tells the Christian believer, that: AFTER A BLESSING you better get ready ‘FOR A TESTING. Take a look at the word testimony literally – Tes – i –mony”. There can not be a testimony without a test somewhere in the formula. If we could pick the brains of the great leaders of this world we would find that each of them endured and came through some intense and crucial testing times in their lives. I am not talking about just any leaders; I am talking about men and women who have made a divinely directed difference in the lives of the multitudes. You see, testing refines an individual, and he or she who makes it through God’s tests always emerges a better person and a better leader. Abraham did not run from his testing period when God informed him that it was testing time. When his name was called, Abraham responded, “Here am I Lord”. How do we react when God tests us? Do we protest, or say, “no not now Lord!” I am not ready! Or, ask God questions? Do we try to run away and hide and flunk the test without even trying? Or, do we respond in faith like Abraham. “Lord, here am I.” Testing measures your maturity; it scales your spirituality. Testing quantifies your commitment, testing assesses your aspirations, testing rules your righteousness. Thank God Abraham did not run off and hide and completely give up. Let me raise a question right here. What does it take to pass God’s test of Love. Let me answer for you. 1. Give God the best you have: Abraham’s only son 2. Follow divine direction: The reason why we make low failing grades on God’s test is due to not following His directions. 3. Let go and let God! Abraham gave his best and trusted God to provide. 4. Trust God ro provide whatever is needed. Whatever you need to pass God’s love test, He will provide. Will you pass God’s love test? When you pass this test your tested life becomes a testimony. Let us not forget to read our Bible. May God bless you real good, and may He ever keep you in His loving care.

Powerful Four-letter Word Everyone Wants to Hear
W
e live in an age wherein our daily utterances are often sprinkled with the choicest four letter words, yet we rarely use the four letter word everyone longs to hear -- LOVE. And, strangely enough, although everybody is seeking the holy grail of happiness, today we find that people feel insecure more Geraldine than ever before. What Davidson-Hooker is the reason for this? Happiness stems from being loved and wanted, one of the basic psychological needs in each of us that demands fulfillment. People are willing to go to any lengths to find love. Nations have gone to war, kings have abdicated their thrones, and star-crossed lovers have made suicide pacts - all for love. On the other hand, murders are committed, people exhibit aggression, others withdraw into their shell, and some even take their own lives - all for a lack of love. The world's first murder was a result of Cain's envy, because he perceived that God loved his brother, Abel, more. Marilyn Monroe had the world at her feet, with fame and fortune, but overdosed because she did not have the one thing she yearned for more than anything else - to be loved and cherished. The word "love" may be only four letters long, but it is the most powerful word in the world, because it describes the awesome power residing in every human heart - emotion! But, it is a doubleedged weapon. It can spur on an individual to do heroic deeds on one hand, as well as cause death and destruction on the other. Love is, therefore, the engine that drives on people to accomplish the impossible. But this engine, like any other, requires a certain brand of fuel. Frequent refueling with the "I LOVE YOU" brand of high octane fuel will keep this engine purring lovingly. And, the love will be returned in equal measure, because those that are loved find it easy to give love back. Being loved, and knowing that they are loved, makes people confident, relaxed and happy. Look around you. If you see anybody "floating" along with a secret smile on their face and a tune on their lips, you are looking at someone that is loved - and knows it! Recently, a well-known psychologist was working with a teenage boy who was having serious problems. As they talked, the boy was asked as to whether his parents loved him. The teenager looked up sadly and said, "I don't know, but if they do, they've never told me!" Please don't make the same mistake. To love without saying so is not enough. People need to be told that they are loved. Again, and again, and again! It is cruel and thoughtless to leave our loved ones in doubt about our affection for them. It's no use regretting later, when they are no more there to hear you.

Notes From Union Hope
C
h u r c h School had another wonderful lesson on the life of Joseph, from the subject “God preserves a remnant” Gen.45:3-15. We saw in the lesson Eld lloyd T. Morgan not only Joseph seeing the dream he had years before come to pass but we also saw the promise that God made to Abraham fulfilled. It is so strengthening to see how God keeps promises although the one that received the promise is dead. Every believer should be able from the life of Joseph with all of its up’s and downs, in and out of difficult situations to take courage and keep the faith even when it seem that God is not answering our prayers as we think he should. God has the power to transform any situation into a positive for those who are called according to his purpose. When we learn to trust and obey we will see God working in our lives even more. The Morning message
was delivered by Pastor Lloyd Morgan from the subject “God’s people and the book” Neh.8:9-12. Ezra the priest and scribe held a “Bible Conference” an entire week both reading and explaining the Law to God’s people when they heard and understood the Law their hearts was turned back to God and a celebration was ordered. But the celebrating of the feast was not for enjoyment alone; it was also for enrichment and encouragement they were told that the “joy” of the Lord was their strength. If God is to work through his people, then the people of God must fall in love with the word of God. There are three basic responses to God’s word, first we must understand the word, we must rejoice in the word, and obey the word. We must understand also that the Bible is not a “Magic Book” that changes people or circumstances simply because someone reads or recites it. God’s word must be understood before it can enter the heart and release its life changing power. The men of Union Hope will celebrate their annual day Sunday Jan.22 @3:30 p.m. Be Blessed

ible order gives us bible results and as a result, Jesus became our living proof of victory over defeat. The writer of Hebrews states that we have a great high priest who has passed through Pastor Clarence the heavens, Jesus the Henderson son of God. And He is a high priest who is touched and moved with sympathy by our weakness, for He also was tempted in all points as we are and yet He did not sin. Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. Therefore we come boldly to Him in prayer, without question, without reservation, and without argumentation, it can be said that prayer is the gateway into God’s presence, and the doorway that opens precious opportunities.

32 High Schools Participating in Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Special to Elite News
T
racy Jordan, director of Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards program (DSM HSMTA) presented by Comerica Bank has announced that 32 high schools have registered to participate for the 2011 – 2012 school year. “We’re thrilled to have so many high schools participating in Dallas Summer Musicals’ first-ever musical theatre awards program,” Jordan said. “It’s a diverse list of high schools from as far away as Granbury, McKinney, Corsicana and all across the Metroplex. The musicals are a wonderful mix from classic, like Red Oak High School’s Singin’ in the Rain, and dramatic, like Denton High Schools’ Jekyll & Hyde to Highland Park High School’s Once Upon a Mattress, a comedy.”

A
couple weeks ago I mentioned “don’t be surprised if Green Bay don’t make it to the Championship. I wish I could say I hate to say “ I told you so! “ but I’m happy to say it. leon Simon There is a group of young media people that thinks everything they see is the best ever. I thought before the season was over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers were going to walk across one of the Great Lakes. According to some of the ESPN crew Rodgers was the greatest quarterback they had ever seen. Although some of them could have been absolutely right they’re only in their early 20’s. But they influence older people that believe everything they see on ESPN or read in the paper.
page 8
Carla Ford-Rich, Speech and Theater Coordinator with Plano ISD said, “The Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards program is such a wonderful opportunity for our students. They not only get to see examples from students’ work across the Metroplex, but they have a wonderful opportunity to perform on the Dallas Summer Musicals stage and have opportunities for scholarships. The students get critiqued by professionals in the area and their work is valued. We have so many wonderful theatre programs in the area and it is good to know that others see the credibility of the programs and are willing to devote time, money, and effort to acknowledge their hard work. This program acknowledges all areas of a production from the orchestra and choreography to the set design and costuming to the acting and singing. It acknowledges all the efforts of all the students. Thank you to the Dallas Summer Musicals, Tracy Jordan, and
the multitude of volunteer judges for recognizing the validity of such great student work.” Due to the kind generosity of the Fullinwiders and Comerica Bank, DSM will be awarding seven $3,000 cash scholarships to outstanding participating students of the DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards. Winners of the Best Performance by an Actor and Actress will receive an all-expense paid trip for five days to New York City to represent their school in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (the Jimmy Nederlander Award) for the chance to win prizes and scholarships, which vary by year. Finalists in each category will be announced and invited to perform at the 1st Annual DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards Ceremony show at the Music Hall at Fair Park Saturday, May 5, 2012, when winners will be announced.
Aaron Rodger wasn’t the best quarterback in Green Bay Sunday, and the game with the Giants was very close to being a blow-out. Had the NFL used some professional officials, instead of that crew they used. The Giants had 2 fumble recoveries that could have put the greatest team ever in big trouble, and could have been a bigger blow out than New England and Denver. Yet that officiating crew gave the ball back to the Packers. A roughing the passer call allow the Packers to get the last touch down the got. Official are chosen for post season by their performance during the season or previous games. That alone should make that the last game that crew should call this century. There’s a lot of conspiracy theorist that thinks everything is fixed. The NFL, NBA, and MLB doesn’t do a lot to dispel these thoughts ,with some of these officials they use. I’ve said it’s hard to pick the Super-Bowl teams when there’s only 4 teams left, have a go at it. If you want to pick the teams don’t get your research from the
media or former players neither have a clue. Players don’t know anymore about their industry than they know about the stock market. If they did they wouldn’t be broke and in some cases homeless two years after they retire. If they had a clue they could at least they could place a bet on the games, they don’t know the rules let alone winners and losers. The can’t be beat Quarterbacks according to the media and ex players are Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady. and Phillip Rivers. Only Tom Brady remains. How attractive would a Super-Bowl be with the 49ers and the Ravens, with the Harbaugh Brothers (John and Jim) going against each other. That would be a defensive battle like no other, some would be disappointed the ones that complained about Alabama and LSU national Championship game being all Defense, well it could be just that. Don’t know who going to be in it. I know the greatest team ever won’t be there.

THE BLACK ACADEMY OF ARTS AND LETTERS 29TH ANNUAL BLACK MUSIC AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT CONCERT FEATURING GRAMMY, STELLAR AND DOVE AWARD WINNER CECE WINANS Special to Elite News
D
r. Martin Luther King, Jr. led the fight for Civil Rights in America and on Sunday, January 15, 2012, The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) honors his legacy with the 29th Annual Black Music and The Civil Rights Movement Concert at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center located in the Downtown Dallas Arts District at 2501 Flora Street. This moving tribute reflects on Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and celebrates a new nationwide spirit of continuance change with potent film footage, narration, music and dance. The concert features multi-Grammy, Stellar and Dove award winner CECE WINANS backed by TBAAL's 200 voice concert choir and dancers. Conceived and produced by Curtis King, the program promises to inspire and uplift the audience and further deepen the profound respect and admiration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his incomparable dedication and sacrifice for equal rights. CECE WINANS is one of the most recognizable and incomparable voices in gospel music and has sold millions of albums during her 25-year music career. The beautiful charismatic singer has garnered eight Grammy Awards, twenty-one Dove Awards, gold and platinum
albums, a host of #1 Gospel and Top Ten R&B hits and numerous other awards and recognitions. Cece, along with her brother Bebe, were recently honored with a star on the Hollywood (California) Walk of Fame. Despite her undeniable popularity, she has maintained a reputation as one of the friendliest people in the music industry. The eighth of ten children, Winans was raised in Detroit, Michigan with a strong church foundation. She sang her first church solo at the age of eight. In 1987, BeBe & CeCe Winans signed an unprecedented gospelrecording contract with Sparrow Records that allowed Capitol Records to promote BeBe & CeCe’s music in the urban market. Over the next eight years, they enjoyed R&B chart smashes including “Lost Without You,” “Heaven," and "It’s Okay.” Their tunes “I’ll Take You There” and “Addictive Love” both reached number 1 on the R&B charts. BeBe & CeCe released their muchanticipated reunion CD – their first full project in fifteen years - titled Still. The smooth single “Close to You” quickly reached number 1 on the gospel charts and top 10 on the Urban AC charts, demonstrating that Winans is as popular and in demand now as when she first started two decades ago.

elcome to the weekend, baby! The one movie to see this weekend is Terrance Howard's "Red Tails", the true story of The Tuskegee Airmen!!! This movie was pro-
duced by Star Wars Creator George Lucas and was shown to the Alabama Crimson Tide Football team before they went out and smashed LSU for the BCS N a t i o n a l Chef Paula Deen Championship! Take your kids!!! Booo to TV Chef Paula Deen, who's been trying to get us to eat some of the worst food ever on her TV show. Turns out Paula has had diabetes for 3 years, yet she still pushed those high fat, high calorie meals and that sweet tea!!! Now she's gonna be a PAID spokesman for Diabetes...She has no ethics..Telling people to eat a bacon cheeseburger between 2 crispy creme donuts with bacon is as fake as anything...3 years lost when Deen could have come forward and helped save and lives... Travel show host Anthony Bourdain called her the most dangerous person in America last year, because of her recipes...Bourdain went on to say, "Paula being a paid spokesman for Diabetes is like breaking legs and later becoming a spokesman for crutches"! I am already tired of the Deion Sanders divorce drama...I don't want to read about on Facebook, hear about on K104 or see it play out on TMZ like shows! The best thing is for them to settle this behind the scenes...If you know you are not right, then give up what the other spouse deserves and move on! It does not seem that they are moving in this direction, as details on motions and filings continue to trickle out, giving a bad impression of an Idol! Here's another from the ex-Idol zone...O.J. Simpson's Florida home is about to be foreclosed on...I know, I hate when one of my fave athletes ends up in a bad situation..O.J. was one of the greatest running backs in NFL history, a likable actor and set for life...Then he "escaped" with his finances pretty much intact from the Simpson//Goldman murder case...Finally he got caught up with a
page 13
www.dfwelitenews.com
gun, trying to get back some supposedly stolen football memorabilia...Now he's serving up to 33 years... The stuff that went on with Michael Irvin and current drama with Dez Bryant pale in comparison to O.J.'s stupidity...Speaking of Dez, he was not at fault in the latest drama at The LIV club, inside Miami Beach's Fountain bleau Hotel! Word from my man Bloodhound Benny is that somebody in Lil Wayne's entourage was heckling Dez...I hate the fact that the broke friends of Rapper's are always starting some drama...Dez was detained, but neither arrested nor charged...The drama allegedly started after this minion insulted the good name of the Dallas Cowboy's,lol!!!!Hang in there, young man and by the way...The New Orleans Saint's are watching the Playoffs from the outside, just like the Dallas Cowboys! Jerry Jones has hired an offensive coordinator and is remaking the coaching staff of the often burned secondary. I don't expect Terrance Newman back next year. Thank You TNew for being our best corner for Deion Sanders many, many seasons...Now if Jerry would just replace the NFL's one of the NFl's worst General Managers, then Jerry could concentrate on being the great owner that he is...Hello, Jerry, are you listening??? Big ups to LL Cool J of Hip Hop and NCIS TV fame...He'll be hosting the Grammy's Feb. with on CBS Channel 11! Congrat's to actor Idris Elba on his Golden Globe win! Ya probably missed his BBC Broadcasting series, "Luther" where he stars as a near genius detective who's battling lots of personal demons! The good news is that BBC America(Ya have it with cable or dish, but don't watch it) is gonna re-air it this Sunday from 10A-2P..TV it, don't miss Church!!! Fantasia Barrino, walk towards the light! Fantasia's married babay daddy is reportedly cheating on his wife and Fantasia..Walk quickly, Ms. Barrino! Happy Birthday to YOU and Celebs this week: James Earl jones is 81, Maury Povich is 72, Muhammad Ali is 70, Charo is 61, Jim Carrey is 60,Sade is 53,Hakeem Olajuwan 49, and Shawn Wayans/Kid Rock 41!
