HYUNDAI ELANTRA GT Humble, Texas-If you had told me 20 years ago that you could have so much fun driving a four cylinder automobile I would not have believed you. But after testing the all new Hyundai Elantra GT we now understand. The vehicle is powered by a 1.8 liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with 148 horses and 131-lbs per foot of torque. MITSUBISHI LANCER SE 2.4L AWC EXCELLENT SMALL SEDAN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Dallas, Texas-On the first weekend of the month of November Darryl Bellamy and I made the trip to Big D. We were truly impressed with the small sedan we drove. Man with the powerful and yet fuel efficient 2.4 Liter engine cranking out 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 in the city. We also noted the vehicle lived up to its billing in the category. With continuously variable transmission added to this setup we are talking about smooth sailing to say the least. Estimates are roughly 4.0 gallons of fuel is used for each 100 miles driven. Keep in mind we are talking about a complete Japanese vehicle with 99% of its part from Japan. Both the engine and

transmission are built in Japan and the final assembly point is Kurashiki, Japan. The warranties for the Lancer SE are 10-year/100,000 mile power train and five-year/60,000 new vehicle limited warranty with seven year/100,000 miles anti-corrosion perforation and five year/ unlimited road side assistance. Those numbers are top in class and stacks up well against any vehicle built anywhere in the world. Performance and handling are enhanced by all wheel control with drive mode-selector (2WD/4WD/Lock), front Macpherson struts and real multi-link suspension. Anti-locking brakes with electronic brake distribution plus front stabilizer bar completes the good handling packages. Small sedans have

really come of age and they are so well put together these days and are excellent buys when you take a good long look at them. In closing please allow me to add the new Lancer SE gets a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA with five-star rating for driver in frontal crashes with front passenger four-star rating. In side crashes front seat gets five-star rating but the rear seat rating drops to three-star while the rollover gets a four-star rating.

KCOH AM 1430 SOLD WITH CHANGES COMING SOON By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View After nearly six years of waiting and wondering and guessing, KCOH AM 1430 radio station has been sold. Reports are La Promesa Foundation based in Midland purchased the station for a reported $2.1 million dollars. With plans of adding it to the Catholic-oriented Guadalupe Radio Network which would certainly mean changes are in order. Starting out in 1953 the station moved to Almeda in 1963 and has programmed an urban-format and is partly African American owned.

Word is the GRN would only take the licenses so they can use it to bring souls back to Christ. If that is the case there will no longer be a need for the building that sits on Almeda nor will there be a need to hold on the all the people who are currently

employed at the station. The late Michael Petrizzo, who passed away in January 2012, was the majority owner and his family is taking the lead with the sale we are told. This means longtime talk show host Michael Harris with 37 years at the station would be removed and that along would create a stir in the community. Fact is Ralph Cooper longtime sport caster would also be removed among others. One of the city’s more popular disc jockeys in the original D S (Don Samuel) would also be out of there as well the legendary Wash Allen and many other part timers. Every since KYOK AM 1590 was sold in the 80s we have made KCOH our flag ship station and worked on several projects with the station and certainly will miss working with them.

In the coming weeks A KingSize View will look into the situation and try to gather some information as to how this could happen? Fact is $2.1 million is not a great deal of money and one has to wonder why no one in our community stepped up to the plate and tried to pool some resources to get the funding to buy the station. Let the record show no one asked me to help in any way form or fashion.

Whispers are coming out that minority owner Travis Gardner and Judson Robinson Jr. knew of the lowered price and didn’t bother to tell the community. Some view this as unfair since it didn’t give them a fair shake, if they in fact thought the cost would have been more. Fact is the lowest price I heard was $3.8 million dollars and that was during the summer months.

At any rate the station that we have known to love is all but gone in the coming weeks. Some word is that the community has a chance to try and keep the call letters and open a station in the same location, but somehow that doesn’t seem likely. But one thing is for sure if what is been said and written is true it’s going to be interesting to say the least!

FLASHING BACK TO 2012 HONDA FIT 5DR SPORT By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Economics is the name of the game these days and the Honda Fit Sport is high on that list. Recently we had the opportunity to test drive the 2012 Honda Fit Sport and found the little 5 door sedan to be interesting to say the least. Powered by a peppy little 1.5 Liter SOHC 16-valve 4 cylinder engine that produces 117 horsepower, the Fit Sport also has I-VTEC. Our test vehicle with a manual 5-speed transmission delivers 27 miles per gallon in the city and 33 on the highway. Power hits the pavement on P185/55R 16 alloy wheels circulated with all-season tires.

With a MSRP of just under 17 Grand this small sedan is 65 per cent Japanese with both the engine and transmission being built in Japan as well. The final assembly point is Sayamia, Saitama, Japan and it has 0 parts content from the U.S. and Canada. Rack and pinion steering makes for solid handling in a small sedan and the five door setup allows for many different arrangement with the rear seats folding forward increasing the cargo space. With a green house front view the new Honda Fit is easy to navigate and the driver had plenty of glass surrounding you for some of the clearest viewing one

could ask for. More and more small sedans and hatchbacks are coming equipped with safety features such as side impact airbags and side curtain along with the normal dual stage setup up front. For this sport model anti-locking brakes are another standard feature as well. Side impact door beams are also standard and the list goes on and on.

Coach Haggerty was the Assistant Head Coach for the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team and former Head Coach of the Boys’ Junior Varsity Basketball Team. Currently, he is the Head Coach of the Eisenhower Sr. High Co-ed Golf team. Coach Haggerty also teaches I.B.

History and has taught at the Middle School level. He is the father of two children Gabrial and Kennedy. According to Tameka his wife of 12 years; he is a great father and husband. As a young man growing up, Coach Haggerty stated that “he always felt that he could be a great leader and motivator”. He can be seen out in the Aldine communi-

ty working with parents, tutoring young students and encouraging them to be the very best that they can be. While coaching, he is always calm; his demeanor is pleasant even in the heat of a Match Play. Coach Haggerty is a wonderful role model for his students and the players on his teams. He is extremely professional and is

I asked Coach Haggerty what was his proudest moment as a coach and he said without any hesitation; “it was the announcement that two of my golfers, Mariesha Keys and Brandon Reed were 1st Place Medalists for the Aldine Independent School District. time in the history of Eisenhower H.S. that both golfers won their divisions and moved on the Regional Finals”. Coach Haggerty is truly an asset to the Aldine Independent School District, Eisenhower H.S., and the field of Education, that’s why he is our Mover and Shaker for November.

EDWARD T. WELBURN, JR. GM VICE PRESIDENT GLOBAL DESIGN Ed Welburn was named vice president of GM Design North America on October 1, 2003, becoming the sixth Design leader in GM history. On March 1, 2005, Welburn was named to the newly created position of GM vice president, Global Design, and the first to lead all of the company’s Global Design Centers. Welburn also serves on the company’s Executive Operations Committee. As vice president of Global Design, Welburn has created a network of ten Design Centers in seven countries around the world. He and his team of over 1,900 men and women are responsible for the design development of every GM concept and production car and truck globally. The Design Centers are located in the United States, Germany, Korea, China, Australia, Brazil and India. Under Welburn’s leadership, GM designed and developed the revolutionary Chevrolet Volt, an electric vehicle with extended range capability that provides peace of mind by eliminating range anxiety. At the 2011 North American International Auto Show, the Volt captured North American Car of the Year honors to go along with numerous other accolades, including Motor Trend Car of the Year. GM’s Global Design organization has been recognized for a number of other award-winning designs the last several years, including: “Best Concept” for the Chevrolet MiRay concept car in the annual Detroit ews Readers’ Choice Awards at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Top honors for the GMC Granite Concept at the Eyes on Design Awards at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, while the Cadillac CTS Coupe was named as “Best in Show” and the Cadillac XTS Concept as “Best Concept” in the annual Detroit ews Readers’ Choice Awards at the same show. The Chevrolet Camaro won the 2010 World Car Design of the Year Award at the 2010 New York International Auto Show. The Opel Flextreme GT/E concept car was awarded with the internationally-acclaimed ‘Red Dot Award’ in November of

2010 in Singapore for Best Design Concept (over 12,000 submissions from 60 countries).

Welburn was appointed executive director of design, body-onframe architectures, in January of 2002. In this position, he was responsible for the three truck studios at the GM Design Center in Warren. Projects included the HUMMER H3, Cadillac Escalade and the latest generation of full-size trucks that reached the market in 2006.

Welburn currently serves on the on the board of trustees at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.

The Cadillac Converj Concept – which was revealed at the 2009 North American International Auto Show – won the Eyes on Design Award, Autoweek’s Best Concept Award and the Detroit ews Readers’ Choice Award for Best Concept. And in 2008, the Chevrolet Malibu was named North American Car of the Year, while Cadillac captured Motor Trend Car of the Year honors for the Cadillac CTS and Eyes on Design awards for both the CTS-V and CTS Coupe Concept. Welburn began his General Motors career in 1972 as an associate designer assigned to the Advanced Design Studios. In 1973, Welburn joined the Buick Exterior Studio where he worked on the Buick Riviera and Park Avenue. In 1975, he was assigned to the Oldsmobile Exterior Studio. There he led the development of a number of successful production vehicles and designed the Oldsmobile Aerotech speed-record vehicle, which set two world’s records of more than 257 miles per hour in 1987. He was named chief designer of the Oldsmobile Studio in 1989. Projects there included the Oldsmobile Antares concept car and the Oldsmobile Intrigue, both of which received AutoWeek magazine awards at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. In 1996, Welburn began a twoyear assignment at Saturn, which led to an overseas assignment in Germany where he worked on future global design programs. Welburn was named director of GM’s Advanced Design in Warren, Michigan, in 1998. His team was responsible for the development of new and innovative vehicles for all GM brands. Welburn’s team also led the development of all GM concept

A native of Philadelphia, Welburn was born on December 14, 1950. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1972 from the College of Fine Arts at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he studied sculpture and product design. Welburn is currently General Motors key executive to Howard University, and was named 2004 Howard University Alumni of the Year. In 1978, the GM Foundation, of which Welburn is a board member, established a yearly grant award to Howard. Since then, the total estimated

COBRAS FLAG AND FRESHMEN TEAMS WIN PLAYOFF GAMES By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the football playoffs begin, the Studewood Cobras flag team took to the field and shut out the Bulldogs 18-0. Quarterback Mekhi Manley ran 42 yards for a score to put the game out of reach early in the fourth period. Head Coach Clourid Johnson said after the game his 9-2 team has a goal of winning the Super Bowl this year. Johnson is assisted by Reginald Bell, Teniki

Manuel and Michael Phoenix and they are on a roll right now. The Cobras are in their 36th season and feeling good about their chances of winning it all. The most impressive thing about the Cobras flag team is they actually threw the football on two occasion and rumor has it they have even completed some passes this season. Keep in mind we are talking about little boys who are six years and younger on the flag team.

The Freshmen Cobras under the leadership of the legendary Walter Penrice won their game by the score of 18-0 as Jakobe Wilkerson led the way with a big long scoring run. Jakobe a 3rd grader at John F. Kennedy Elementary School, put on a show in his runs of more than 30 yards. But he wasn’t alone as Kameron Waller added a long run as well for a score. Waller is a 2nd grader at Lewis Elementary School and is the grandson of Michael Phoenix Senior. They also got good quality play from Tyree Harris who is a 3rd grader at Wesley Elementary School. This year Coach Penrice is assisted by his son George Penrice, Everett Whitaker and Edward Gidrey.

Their squad seems to be jelling at the right time and could go all the way as well. When you look at Cobras who are doing well on other levels these young guys have reasons to look ahead. Former Cobra John Gibbs connected on 18 of 38 passes for 218 yards and

three touchdowns to help Alcorn beat Texas Southern University. Also Craig Loston intercepted a pass and returned it 100 yards to help Louisiana State University turn back Mississippi State. Loston who played his high school football at AldineEisenhower is also a former Studewood Cobra.

COBRAS JV AND VARSITY SQUAD IN THE SUPERBOWL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Varsity squad of the Studewood Cobras won in overtime 33-32 on a one-point TD conversion in double overtime to make a trip the Super Bowl. It was a hard fought win over the North Side Bulldogs. The Independent Youth Sports League will hold their annual Super Bowl on Saturday December 1st at Jones Cowart Stadium beginning at 10.00 AM. The Flag title game will pit the Colts versus the Tigers while the

freshmen title game will pit the Cowboys versus Texas City, the junior varsity title game will have the Studewood Cobras going against the Fifth Ward Cowboys and the varsity will pit the Cobras versus the Tigers from Kashmere Garden area.

December 1st the action is going to be just great. The cheerleader competition will also take place on the same day.

In this the 36th season of the Studewood Cobras the JV shut out the Colts to make it to the title game. Both the flag and the freshmen lost in the semi-finals on this past weekend. Be there for the showdown on

The game played at the all-new Turner Stadium in Humble on Saturday night 11/17/12. In talking with Coach Atkins we learned he has the upmost respect for Coach Brett Sniffin who also is from Iowa and says they were fortunate to come out on top. The Iowa native went on to say he

knows a little about winning and won a state championship in his high school days. “The most important thing here is the kids are willing to work hard and the community is rallying around this team and we hope to keep winning to give them something to be proud of”.

I’d say North Forest probably had enough talent to win with them in the past but its important to work hard. “We have been blessed to not have any serious injuries this season and we plan to continue to work hard and build on what we’ve got going”.

When asked about his success, Atkins made it clear the weight room is the key. “My high school coach taught us to lift weights and we still hit the weights three times a week”.

His team jumped out early and scored 14 points in the first period and looked as if they were going to run away with the game. “I’m use to scoring fast and scoring early and often but tonight we just weren’t able to

The junior tailback didn’t mind running inside despite his small statue. “We worked very hard in practice and I have to give the credit to my offensive line because they made it easy for me to run tonight”. Jones finished with 96 yards and scored four touchdowns in only 14 carries on the night.

As we talked more with Jones we learned he simply was following the blocking and says when he sees the hole he is going to hit, “I think we can go to state and win it all if we keep following our coach advice”. It also helped that the Bulldogs have a big back in Alex Benjamin and another good junior in Jarvis Harris to keep teams honest. It also makes it hard to key on a certain back. In closing Jones said the Bulldogs plan are to keep working hard and do what they do all the way to state.

BLACK COLLEGE BANDS, EXTINCTION OR SURVIVAL? By Alexis Williams The recent actions by Historically Black College and University (HBCU) band members have fueled the flames of traditional, sadistic, hazing rituals of yesteryear usually for entrance into Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity and /or Tau Beta Sigma Band Sorority. These illegal actions could be fodder for the extinction of the timehonored, culturally-entertaining performances of the black college band. Locally, Texas Southern University handed down sanctions against its famed Ocean of Soul Marching Band at the end of September by not allowing the group to practice or perform at football games. In the community, it is a well known fact that football season at HBCU’s is the equivalence of a ‘Super Bowl’ partially for its half-time performances by the talented school bands. Half-times are so popular they are referenced as “the game and a half.” TSU’s investigation by its police department reportedly found that 19 band members from the trumpet section were involved in initiation paddlings (beatings) that severely injured at least one student who then went to the school’s administration. After the investigation, a universityappointed task force recommended penalties for the student perpetrators. Reportedly, ten upperclassmen were suspended from the university for the semester along with revocation of their band scholarships. Nine freshmen were reprimanded. They resumed play in October.

The Ocean of Soul’s suspension came on the heels of the famed Florida A&M University (FAMU) Marching 100 band’s

senseless acts of hazing that included: beatings, bruisings, a fractured limb and the death of a drum major. FAMU band’s infractions lead the administration to suspend the entire 500member band. Unfortunately for both alumni, fans and the college musicians, they have been silenced and are on a year long suspension.

Boom of the South’, hundreds of other black college bands have entertained millions and produced many successful professionals in all walks of life. So when something as antiquated and unnecessary as injury and/or death by hazing occurs, we collectively shake our heads, gasp and say “Oh My God!” or “I can’t believe it!”

Black College bands in a nutshell are a mainstay within the Black community. They are akin to the Black Church, the cornerstone of the community. They have performed at topnotch events from N.F.L. Super Bowls to U. S. Presidential Inaugural activities. They have entertained us and made us proud for many, many years. They have taken us on musical journeys that last a lifetime. They offer a marching musical escape from our everyday life hassles. They can take us way back with renditions of rhythm and blues. They can take us to church with that good old gospel. They can make us move our bodies with pop music. They can give us chills with beautiful patriotic songs. Or they can make us reflect on our heritage with soulful sounds. Whatever the genre of music, often times, we live vicariously through these bandsmen and bandswomen. And as for the dance ability, none can compare. Simply said, “We got rhythm.” And, yes, we definitely have a long lasting love affair with our Black College bands.

Now that we are over the shock, we must collectively let the young college musicians know that no organization, no group, no club or band is worth the injury or death of one collegiate, future professional. One can’t ever place a value on a life. There is no place for barbaric acts of slapping, punching, kicking, beating, etc. of band members in today’s society.

Show-stopping, high-stepping and tintillating, are but a few of the words that are used to describe our iconic black college bands. With nicknames like: ‘Ocean of Soul’, ‘Marching 100’, ‘Marching Thunder’, ‘Human Jukebox’, and ‘Sonic

This is a call to action to protect one of the most precious commodities in institutions of higher learning for Black Americans. We must mobilize! We have to meet and get organized. We have to spread the word, that this is totally unacceptable. Stop the violence, no more Black band on Black band crime. Get involved. This training has to begin as early as middle school and continue on through college. This is more than our community being under attack from within. Simply put, it’s the sheer survival of or extinction of the great entity known as the ‘Black College Band’. Down throughout history, these marching aggregations have been the face of their respective colleges and universities. And they simply must be kept alive to march on into perpetuity. Ditto to black college fraternities and sororities.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL REPORT-DEFENSE KEYS NORTH FOREST PLAYOFF VICTORY By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Humble, Texas-With their fans screaming to the top of their lungs at the newly renovated Turner Stadium the North Forest Bulldogs snapped their way past Fort Bend Ridge Point 41-23. Known for their big point production the Dogs did it on defense as well. It all started when J. T. Jakubik caught a pass over the middle and defensive back Joc LeBlanc laid him out on the field. Later in the fourth it was a blocked punt and linebacker De Marcus Spurlock recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. But it didn’t end there as defensive back Tyrus Jones picked off a pass and returned it 53 yards for a dazzling touchdown to put it out of reach for good. All night long it was Anthony Davis, Dataveun Tubbs, Edmond Bell and Erin Beatty up front making things tough for Ridge Point offense. Roaming around in the defensive back field were the likes of Marquise Cheatham, ZeMarcus Green, Tyrus Jones and hard hitting Joc LeBlanc. All night long the Dogs made key defensive stops. The game started quickly as Anthony Jones went in from 10 yards out to open the scoring. Ridge Point did answer when Cameron Townsend stepped in front of a pitch and went 24 yards with a fumble recovery score but it would be the only points of the half for the Panthers. Jones would score again on a two yard run followed by a 16 yard gallop in the second period. This produced a 20-7 halftime lead and after a Jordan Davies 32 yard field goal for Ridge Point, Jones followed

with an 11 yard run to end the offensive scoring for the Dogs. Their other two scores came from the defensive side of the ball. Its Rosenberg Terry next for the Bulldogs and that should be another interesting matchup to say the least. The Lamar Redskins came from behind to beat Katy-Seven Lakes 36-33 in a thriller at Delmar Stadium. Cedric Lancaster grabbed a 47 yard pass from Darrell Colbert to complete the Redskins comeback. Right off the bat Bryce Brown booted a 28 yard field goal for the Spartans but Lamar answered when Colbert found Justin Hollie from one yard out. But Kyle Postma ran five yard for a score followed by a Braeden West 2 yard run and the Panthers led it 27-14. Darrell Colbert the senior quarterback was not to be denied as he passed for four touchdowns on 14 of 31 for 274 yards including the game winner with only 54 seconds left. The son of former Beaumont Westbrook state champion 1982 team, Colbert showed his ability to keep a cool head in leading the Skins to their 11th win of the season against no defeats.

WHAT IS TRUTH? HAPPY HOLIDAYS Subject: Happy Holidays; Please Get Your Bible and Follow This Study

OTE DEFI ITIO S: Holiday-1. (n.) A religious festivity:• feast • pageant • feast day For those of us that choose not to follow traditions and doctrines of men, this is not a happy time of the year, but rather a sad one. This causes pain and suffering when so many of our fleshly family members, and/or those that profess to be followers of Christ (Christians), choose to do so. As true followers of Christ we cannot, and will not; (Matt.10:32-39; 2Tim.3:12-17; 1Pet.4:1-7). This hurts our Fleshly feelings, and it goes against our Carnal wants, (our Bellies) (Rom.16:16-19; 2Cor.10:1-7; Gal.5:16-26; Phil.3:16-21; James4:1-10). Those striving to follow Christ (Christians) are commanded by Christ through his apostles, not to observe or give heed to fables, traditions, doctrines, and commandments of men; for these things are Idle> (free from labor, at leisure) (Matt.12:3537, 1Tim.1:4, 2Tim.4:3-4, Titus1: 13-14, Col.2:8-10 and verses 20-22). The commandments of God through Christ and his apostles, edifies the Spiritual Mind and strengthens the New Spiritual man in Christ Jesus, (Rom.12:1-2; 2Cor.5:14-17; Eph.4:20-24; Col.3:1-10). Christians must observe all things that Christ commanded his Apostles (Matt.28:20; John17: 20-21; Acts 1:1-4; 2Pet.3:1-3; 1John4:5-6; Jude 1:16-19). ‘Tis a season that is full of Vanity, decorations, eating in a gluttonous manner, drunkenness and fables; which are lies. Now let’s look at some lies that have been put in place by man, Santa (so-called), riding in a sleigh pulled by flying reindeer, and going down a chimney, of course we know this is a lie. “Santa Claus”, Father Christ/mas and or Kris Kringle, derived from Christ/Kindle, meaning, “Christ Child“ this is an abominable LIE. “This began in Germany, among Protestant denominations”. How many lies can one tell, or be a part of and be right with God? Especially lies involving and surrounding God’s Beloved Son: in whom He is Well pleased: (please hear God and understand; Matt.17:1-8). Christians MUST speak and DO the TRUTH, if

we are of Christ, through his apostles’ Word, (please hear Jesus John 17:14-21). Can anyone prove by the inspired Word, that there were three wise men; if we cannot, how can we know it’s true, we cannot?

Think about it, children are taught that lying is wrong; except in some cases, one being, of ALL things, the unauthorized celebrations dealing with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. This is shameful and DEADLY, to soul salvation. Why would a Christian teach damnation to anyone, especially to their CHILDREN? There are no examples and or commands for Christians to observe Christmas; thereby being unauthorized by Christ and or his apostles. This also sends the message to children that, participating in, or being involved with some lies is ok, especially the ones that MAN thinks he has involved Christ in (1John1:1-6); instead of teaching the TRUTH; that all liars will have their part in HELL. “Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all (1)liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Definition: (1)all liars-5571 pseudes (psyoodace’); from 5574; untrue, i.e. erroneous, deceitful, wicked: KJV— false, liar. Children are being brought up in the nurture and admonition of fables/lies, traditions, doctrines, and commandments of men, rather than of The Lord (listen Eph.6:1-4). Remember Christians are to exhort to godliness, (1Tim 4:616) please note verses 12&13). It is so sad that so many souls observe in any manner these traditions of men, instead of following the WORD, which is given to us by God through Christ, and his apostles. After all the Word is our MAP to HEAVEN and away from HELL! Here is another ERRONIOUS statement, “JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON”; this is a cunningly devised fable, in other words, “believable error”. Jesus has never been and never will be the reason for any season, because JESUS IS NOT SEASONAL. Jesus Christ is a LIFESTYLE that one MUST strive as a Christian to live 247. Jesus has left instructions on what Christians MUST remem-

ber about him, and it is not his birth, but his death (1Cor.11:2334). He lived a life of suffering (Isaiah 53:1-12; Matt.21:1-7; Luke 9:57-62; John1:9-11; John12:25-26), then died most cruelly on the cross for us all. Remember, His Father for our sake was pleased to BRUISE His only begotten Son, Isa.53:10. Then, after His death, and the shedding of blood for the remission of sin: raised Him up on the third day, thereby giving us a chance for salvation, IF we OBEY and follow HIM, through his apostles, (John 17:823; John 19:34; Acts 22:16; 1Cor.1:30; 6:11; Eph.5:26-27; Heb.5:5-9; Heb.9:13-28; James1:21-22; 1Pet.3:21-22; 1Pet.4:1-3; 1John1:6-10). “KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS”, this is another cunningly devised fable, in that the word Christmas cannot be found in the inspired WORD, (the Bible). So then God, the ONE and ONLY HOLY FATHER, which IS IN HEAVEN, did not put his precious Son in it. Christ being the WORD (John1:1-14), never practiced it himself, and GOD made it clear in Matt. the17th chapter, that

Christians MUST hear his beloved son, in whom He is well pleased and him ONLY (verse 8). In Matt. 28:18-20 when Jesus Christ was about to ascend back into heaven, he made it clear to his apostles, that all power in heaven and earth had been given unto him, from his Father which is in heaven. Christ then began to leave them instructions on what they MUST do and teach true Christians to observe. In these instructions “Christmas”, and the practice of it, cannot be found. Now, we believe this should open the door for some legitimate questions, for those who want to know the TRUTH, and escape error. For we all MUST strive to escape error, in order to have eternal LIFE. Who made “JESUS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON”? Who put “CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS”? It has been proven by the Apostles’ Doctrine that God the father did not; neither did Jesus Christ and his Apostles. Who else did Christ leave this authority; NO ONE ELSE. According to scriptures Jesus left his Apostles the Word (John17:510), so that when we read (Eph.3:1-7), study (2Tim.2:15) and strive to obey (2Thes.1:7-9;

James 1:21-25; 2:17-26; 1Pet.4:12-19) the commands of the apostles (Acts1:1-4; Acts2:41-42; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John 4:5-6; Jude 1:16-19), this and only this makes us all ONE, right (righteous) with God. Now let us examine the origin of this tradition.

Christmas: Date (Dec. 25), was established in (A.D. 336), by the Western Church, based at Rome. The Eastern Orthodox and the Eastern Rite churches within the Roman Catholic Church chose (January 6). There seems to have been some confusion on the date of which this day was to be observed. God is not the author of confusion (listen 1Cor.14:33), this only happens with man’s traditions. This is why Christians MUST observe all things that Christ has commanded the Apostles, (Matt.28:20). Again you will not find the word “Christmas”, or the traditional practice of it, by Christ nor his Apostles. So, there is no such custom in the Church of God (1Cor.11:16), which he purchased with his blood (Acts20:28), which is the Church of and by Christ (Matt. 16:16-18; Eph.3:21; 5:23-33; Col.1:18). As we can tell by the dates given, this tradition came MUCH TOO late to be of Christ or his apostles. According to Christ Himself, Christians MUST believe on Him through his Apostle’s word, (John17:2021) and continue STEADFAST, in the apostle’s doctrine, as those before us (Acts2:41-42), this is SAFE.

Man himself proves the fact that Jesus is not the reason for the season, and that he is not in it. For when the, so-called, Christmas season starts, what is truly thought of the most? Is it Christ or is it the time off, the vain carnal trees and decorations, the materialistic gifts, the glutinous foods and drinks, the carnal games and the fleshly family gatherings? Where is Christ? Let your conversation be ONLY about Christ, the scriptures, and soul salvation while at these gatherings and see how popular you will be, (Philp.1:27; 1Tim.4:11 -16; 1Pet.1:13-19; 2Pet.3:8-12). Take the carnal, fleshly wants of man out of the equation; there would be no observance of these carnal days that Christ has not authorized to those that are his. The proof is in the pudding; our GOD is truly our BELLIES Phil 3:16-20, because it seems nothing can be done without carnal food. Today, even buildings that should O LY be built for worship, which include the serving of SPIRITUAL food, for the spiritual edification of the body of Christ, must have KITCHENS.

The TREE is one of the main things GLORIFIED in this tradition, which man has WITHOUT AUTHORITY; thereby without success, tried to make Jesus the reason for. After all, this is where the so called “GIFTS” are laid, and so much time is spent in the DECORATING of it. The children of Israel were warned of a similar custom; “Jeremiah 10:1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: 2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. 3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers

How can those of the one faith even think about “secular” DAYS, let alone be PARTAKERS of them, and then call Him Lord, Lord. “Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? See also Matt 7:21-24. These practices cause those of the one faith, to be idolaters; lukewarm, doubled minded enemies of the CROSS of CHRIST, minding SECULAR things. Followers of Christ must reprove those things

that cannot be found in the Apostles’ doctrine, rather than participate in them (see Eph. 5: 6-17). We must be the (1)SALT of the earth, not mind the things of the earth, thereby being the (2)LIGHT of the world (Matt.5:13-16), rather than being (3)conformed to this world (Rom.12:1-2).

This declaration that was made by the angels is heard often this time of the year. Peace on earth can ONLY exist if ALL men DENY themselves, and suffer to obey Christ through his apostles’ word, doctrine, traditions and commands; as God has commanded (Matt. 17:1-8; 28:18-20; John17:1524; Acts2:41-42; 2Thes.2:1417; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John 4:5-6). Christ’s will have always been good toward men, but man must first have a change of MIND (repentance). “2 Pet 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,” But man wants to have it his own way. He wants to be able to choose his own way to be righteous with God, thereby causing division, variance and confusion. According to Christ and His

apostles; because of man’s SCRIPTURAL ignorance (Matt.22:29), REBELLIOUS ways (Luke 6:46-49); and because man loves his life, the WORLD and the THINGS that are IN it (John12:25-26; 1John 2:15-17), there is and there will be no peace on earth (Matt.10:32-38; Luke 12:5153).

Jesus said he didn’t come to send peace, but a sword, which is the WORD. If we are Christians we MUST believe what Christ says. Do we not want to know the truth? “Matt 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, *but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me” (hear also Luke9:5762). “Heb 4: 11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any *two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (hear also Eph.6:17). “Luke 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? more sure WORD of prophecy by the apostles, there is confusion. Since many are resolved to follow blindly, teachers that are false, without proving them by the apostles’ doctrine, there is variance. Because many have chosen to follow the traditions and commandments of men, rather than those of the apostles, which would make PEACE and make us ALL ONE in Christ, there is, and there MUST be DIVISION; Please hear: “II Th 3:4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye (1)withdraw yourselves from every brother that (2)walketh (3)disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.” Definitions: (1)withdraw yourselves from every brother-4724 stello (stel’-lo); probably strengthened from the base of 2476; properly, to set fast (“stall”), i.e. (figuratively) to repress (reflexively, abstain from associating with): KJV— avoid, withdrawself. Our hope is, that all striving to be Christians, according to the apostles’ doctrine (Acts1:1-4; Acts2:41-42), will become in the future, SPIRITUALLY MINDED and not the SECULARLY MINDED ones that WE ARE. When one professes to belong to Christ (Christian), and chooses NOT to be doers of the Word and work, (James 1:21-25) but chooses to be spotted with the world (James1:27) and chooses to love the world and the things that are in it, this makes one not of the Father (1John2:15-17). According to scripture, this also makes one an adulterer or an adulteress, choosing to be a friend of this world (James4:410). Again, according to scripture, one that chooses to love their life in this world, shall lose their life (eternally) John12:2326. Remember, if one, because of his/her own BELLY, chooses to mind earthly things, including the traditions of men, according to scripture this makes one the enemy of the Cross of Christ (Phil.3:16-20)! This then according to SCRIPTURE, makes one a DENIER of Christ and the Father rather than a DENIER of oneself (Luke 9:2226). This also makes one an A TICHRIST 1John2:22-23!

We believe that there are some that perceive, understand and even believe these truths; but because of different reasons, do not choose to accept them. We believe that weakness maybe one reason. We also believe that such ones might ask these questions: “How can I tell my wife, husband, children, or friends?” “How can I tell my father, mother, or kindred, that these are truths?” The question should be: “How can a Christian, i.e. follower of Christ, not tell the truth to all (the truth being the WORD)”, (John17:16-17)? We believe that pride may be another reason for the refusal of the truth, in that we don’t like admitting that we have been wrong. Jesus said that pride, among other things is evil, and defileth the man. Listen: Mark 7:20-23; Mark 9:43-48. This is true because first of all and most of all Jesus said it. Secondly, when it hinders one from saving his own soul and the souls of others, by not admitting the truth by the word, can anything be more evil? Remember, among other things the WORD is profitable for correction: 2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. We must not be too proud to accept the WORD; after all it is Christ John1:1-18, and it is what will judge us in

the last day John12:46-50. We must change our minds and then our ways if we want to be SAVED, “Repent” (Mark 9:4348; Rom. 12:1-2; 2Pet.3:8-18). Jesus tells us by scriptures of the few that chooses not to follow man, but will find and accept the Word; and the many that will not accept it (please listen Matt.7:13-29 and 22:14). The apostle Paul even speaks of those that follows not the Word, because of being blinded by the god of this world, “the Devil”; please listen: “2 Cor 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (Hear also Luke 4:1-13; 1John5:19-21; Rev.12:9 and 13:6-9)

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler Note-As we near the end of the current football season, more coaches than I can remember on on the hot seat. This year may be a record for coaches being fired and replaced on all levels. I read this column, looking for something else and decided to use it again. Football is such a wierd game because no matter how bad the players performcoaches always get the complete blame for it! Plain and simple, nothing makes me happier than the end of July. This means dear readers that August begins another football season and hopes and dreams of success fill the hearts of fans all across the fruited plains. Everyone has a deep dream that this is their season; the one that they have waited for all their lives. By the first of February, January and December, pro, college and high school fans will watch someone else celebrate and the tears of disappointment

will occupy the faces of everyone. Then the long, hard off season and the wait to August begins. But our August is here and happiness is seen on football fans everywhere. Reading our pre season magazines hoping to give our dreams a doze of reality is the talk at water coolers all over the country. I was asked by a fan of the newspaper what I would do to make my team a winner. I told him to read the next edition of A KING SIZE VIEW and I would provide the answer. Now first let me say at each level, the only way to have a possible winner is to have outstanding players, a great coaching staff and a support staff that all have one goal-winning! Now I must add that even having those things may increase your chances of winning but it doesn’t guarantee it. Great teams have failed to win championships. So as stated at the top of this column, here is the way I see it.

Try a restaurant of a different ethnicity, and allow your palate and senses to you take you on a journey. Learn different styles of dancing and take your show on the road to a local club that caters to that style of dancing and put those moves to use. International and cultural festivals are a great way to explore other cultures, without leaving your own city. Try learning a new language and if you are not up to learning an entire new language, learn words that you can

HOW I WOULD BUILD MY TEAM INTO A WINNER A quarterback must be in placeUnlike athletes in key positions in other sports, a quarterback is essential to the success/failure of a team. He is the team leader, a person everyone counts on when the game is on the line and a big play is needed to win. The coach counts on him to keep everyone focused on the job at hand and his leadership is the main key towards winning. A defensive leader: middle linebacker-Simply put this is the physical leader of the team. He takes a lot of punishment but gives even more. He is always hurt, but he never leaves the field. He yells at the defense and offense players. He is a coach on the field, in the sideline and in the locker room. A middle linebacker asks for no sympathy and he gives none. A receiver that makes big/small plays-A great receiver has two simple roles; make the big catch every game and yet make the simple catch that doesn’t make a lot of conversations but when you look at the film those catches paid dividends that help seal the win. He must make key blocks to help secure first downs

and he must bail out his quarterback when the pass rush is about to wreck havoc on the offense. A defensive end that seeks and destroys the quarterback-A great defensive end has only one role; rush the pocket and sack the quarterback. He must attack, attack, attack all the time. He must be relentless and simply put a very mean man. He may be pound for pound the best conditioned athlete on the team. A kicker with no nerves-Watch the loneliest player on the team as he sits and waits until his name is called. He practices with the holder by himself. He must be relaxed ready to contribute when asked. The weather conditions could be sunny, rainy, and cold with snow and or biting with gusty wind. Sometimes the kicker must kick with the game on the line. He must produce when he is called. The clock is about to strike zero. The kick is in the air…….. A head coach that pushes the right buttons-A head coach must be leader, teacher, parent and enforcer along with other roles all into one. He doesn’t sleep for

several months at a time, must be careful regarding is diet and be very careful with his health. He must trust his assistant coaches to develop a top game plan implement it and be prepared to make changes when everything is going wrong. He must be able to go with his hunches when everyone warns him it won’t work. He must know which players to trust and replace –players that aren’t producing. He must face the public and accept the criticisms for failures and be humble after wins. He must have that fire in his belly to wake up the nest day, ready to compete. Trust me there be more to add to this list. As I stated earlier, nothing is guaranteed for success but if none of the listed items are present and this one is not there, the desire to win, then it won’t and I repeat won’t happen. Give me a team that all want to win and work hard at everything they do, they’ll win. Maybe not on the field, but in life itself. I’ll take life winners every time. That’s just the way I see it!

all sorts of places when you travel, or can even connect your friends when they travel or move to other locations. Remember to reconnect not just on places but people as well, and always share freely with others that can benefit from it.

and talented daughter of Denise and Willie Holmes is a junior co-captain on the squad and certainly likes her job. “Oh sir you can’t believe how much I love cheering for our team and for our team to be undefeated and

In the classroom Holmes is a straight A student and likes English best because she says she loves to write as well as l read poems. “English has always been interesting to me ever since I was little; it’s been my favorite and I’m always done well in my English classes”. With a desire to go into the medical profession Holmes made it clear she wants to become a Pediatrician and simply has a love for young children. “I guess it’s because I have some little nieces and nephews and I love caring for them”. She also made it clear she wants to attend the Prairie View A & M University School of Medicine to get started on her profession. In addition to cheering Diamond says she had a very special feel-

ing for hair care and thinks having a beauty shop could be a good line of work. “Again I feel working with hair care is a great past time for me and it’s definitely in my future also”. On Sundays you’ll find the Holmes family over at Greater New Caney Missionary Baptist Church where Diamond praise dances as well as sings in the choir. When asked if she could do anything over in life she said perhaps the fifth grade. “I truly believe I could have been more focused in that grade and applied myself more”. On the subject of the 2012 Presidential Election Homes says she feels President Barack Obama deserved another term so he can continue to get the economy right. “I truly believe during his second term the President will continue to get our country back on track and

improve our economy”. Crediting her father (Willie Holmes) with being her most driving force in life, Diamond said he has simply always provided her with the tools to be successful. “Everything I’ve needed in school he has provided for me and he has always pushed me to be my best at all times; he even made sure I did my homework”. Describing herself as a very hard working and respectful young lady who can get along with anyone, Diamond is the kind of person that makes doing this Fiesta Student of the Week so wonderful. In closing we want to commend Denise and Willie Holmes on doing a wonderful job with their daughter. In little or no time when your child becomes ill you will be able to take them to Dr. Diamond Holmes and get them well again!

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK DARRELL JULIAN-NORTH FOREST Humble, Texas-As the old saying goes a good quarterback goes a long ways in having a good offense. That’s certainly the case for the North Forest Bulldogs as they whipped Fort Bend Ridge Point 41-23 at Turner Stadium in Humble. Yes senior quarterback Darrell Julian kept the Panthers defense off guard all night long. Rushing

for game high 131 yards and hitting on four of five passes for 44 more yards Julian took care of business. “You know sir at any level of football the quarterback has to be the leader on offense and at the half I talked with our team and told them to keep their heads up and keep working hard because we had another half to go”. Julian reminded his team-

mates they must keep going to the weight room and make sure they stay focused and keep winning football teams. “We can go to state because all during the summer we were in the weight room at 5 o’clock and that went for everybody”. Working under Coach Atkins and his staff has been a pleasure for Julian and his teammates. “We respect all our coaches and especially Coach Atkins because he makes sure we hit the weights and you saw our center played well as did the rest of the offensive line”. The talented quarterback who has some very good runs in the game and the only incomplete pass he had was dropped in the end zone for

what would have been a 40 yard touchdown. “We had a 100% effort tonight and that’s what it going to take for us to go to state”. Julian credited Ridge Point and De Marcus Johnson for playing a great game but the Bulldogs kept working hard and got the win. “They have a good back and they played us hard but in the end we got the better hand on them”. Leadership is the key to the success of any football team and after watching Julian for the several times I’m convinced he has what it takes to take his team places.

By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Humble, Texas-Continuing to be the new kid on the block, the Bulldogs of North Forest High School are snapping their way through the first 11 games. Beating teams by the 50s going into the playoffs, they faced a stubborn Ridge Point High School group of Panthers who hang around. But in the end the Bulldogs wore them down and got a 41-23 win just in time for Thanksgiving and earned a berth in the area round of action. Thanks mainly to the line play of David Vasquez and the rest of offensive front they got the job done. Anthony Jones scored three times in the early going and the Panthers simply could not catch up. But Vasquez explained how the Bulldogs have been so successful this year. “I tell your sir, it’s hard

work and dedication; that's what makes this team tick and the offensive line must work hard on the weights so we can move people out the way so our backs can get yards”. The talented senior went on to say they certainly must protect their quarterback in order for the offense to jell. “We’ve got to keep Darrell (Julian) free to do his thing and that’s the offensive lines job first of all”. As we talked more with Vasquez we learned he also feels the coaching staff is another key to success for North Forest. In closing he added the team has some real good workouts for the offensive line and playing the game is easy after what they go through in workouts in preparation.

One of which was linebacker De Marcus Spurlock’s recovery of a blocked punt for a score to basically put the game out of reach at 34-17. Then teammate Tyrus Jones returned an interception for another score to make it 41-17 and even though the Panthers would add another score at the end for a 41-23 final, the game was basically over after Spurlock’s score.

As we continued talking with Spurlock we asked him how the team handled all the adversity about the school district. “We used that as motivation as well and it actually helped us to focus on getting ready for the season”.
