HONDA ODYSSEY FIVE-DOOR TOURING ELITE Arlington, Texas-Off we go again to the Dallas Metro-plex for the state championship weekend at A T & T Stadium. On Saturday December 21st we had a long day, but driving the new Honda Odyssey Touring Elite the trip turned out to be a breeze. The home grown Honda Minivan built with 75 per cent of its parts from the United States and Canada. With both the engine
and transmission built here and the finals assembly point being Lincoln, Alabama. Under the smooth sleek looking hood is proven 248 horse powered 3.5 Liter SOHC 24-valve ITEC V6 engine with variable cylinder management and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with grade logic control. Each time we are going over the information on these automo-
biles we are amazed at some of the features. This baby has 4wheel disc brakes and a double wishbone rear suspension along with McPherson strut front suspension. Features normally found on more expensive Luxury Touring Sports Sedan. When you go on a trip of this mileage you get a good opportunity to see just how many of the vehicles features work. For example we checked out the 650-Watt AM/FM/CD.MP3/WMA audio touch screen system with 12speakers including subwoofer. This unit is equipped with Bluetooth Hands free link and Bluetooth audio, USB audio interface, Pandora Internet radio interface and SMS text messag-
ing functionality to name only a few. We think by now you know we were jamming all the way up to Dallas and back with the CD players going strong. Variable rack and pinion steering kept giving me the impression we were driving a sport luxury sedan instead of the mini-van. The rear cargo space was plenty of room for all our You Tube Production equipment with room to spare. The deep cargo space behind the third row seats clearly takes advantage of space use to be wasted on vehicles. The list of standard safety features are a mile long but we will tell you this mini-van has lane departure warning and forward collision warning, Vehicle Stability Assist and Rollover

sensors to name a few. Sure it has a full-ray of air bags and side curtains as well a push button start/stop. Power transcends smoothly to the pavement on P235/60R AllSeason Tires circulated around a set of 18 X 7.0 Alloy wheels. Throw in blind spot information on each side and front and rear parking sensors. Auto leveling head lights, dual sliding doors and power tail gate kept putting this vehicle in a higher class bracket yet the price barely made it to 45 Grand. Keep in mind all of the above features plus many more are all standing features on this model. Toss in three free months of satellite radio and a full tank of gas and you can be in your merry way

MITSUBISHI LANCER GT 2.4L GT OFFERS GOOD NUMBERS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Dallas, Texas-taking our monthly trip up to Big D we were behind the wheel of the new 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.4L GT and we found it to have good numbers. To start with the vehicle we tested got 23 miles per gallon in the city and 30 on the highway for an average of 26 miles per gallon. This engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission and both are built in Kurashiki Japan. Fact is 97 per cent of the parts for this model’s parts are from Japan. And the final assembly point in is Kurashiki, Japan as well. Scoring a 4-star rating from the NHTSA with 5-star rating for driver in frontal crashes with a 4-star rating for front passenger. While the side impact crashes are rated at 5-star for front seat riders but drops to 3-star for rear seat riders and get a good quality 4-star rating in rollovers. Mitsubishi stands behind this product line with a 10year/100,000 mile power train warranty and a 7-year/100,000 anti-corrosion perforation war-
rant along with 5-year/60,000 mile new vehicle limited warranty. During our week long test people marveled at the Cosmic Blue with Black interior model we tested. The overall sporty look really got the attention of most you took a look at the new sporty vehicle. Let us not forget we are talking about a vehicle very well equipped for just over 22 grand. For example the power meets the road on P215/45R 18-inch all-season tires circulating around an alloy wheel. Such features as chrome accent front grille and rear wing spoiler adds
to the overall looks of the new Lancer. Throw in such features as side sill extensions, color keyed side-view mirrors and door handles and fog lights. Fact is the fog lights came in handy on our way back from Dallas. The interior features are automatic climate control, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and high contrast meter gauges. With height adjustable steering column you are able to setup for a long trip with ease. The six-way driver seat helps in that category and makes the trip a lot more comfortable. We say it all the time just how some of
these compact cars are so roomy these days and have such a great driving feel. Even with a trip as long as Dallas on a turn-around comfort was at a premium. Let me add the 6.1 inch touch screen display audio complete with CD/MP3 Head unit with 8 speakers allowing for us to get a quality sound from our favorite
recording artists along the way. We even listen a little to satellite radio and took advantage of the rearview camera system as well. In closing let me add the rear seats are 60/40 split fold rear seat backs increasing your cargo space to industry leading numbers.

MAZDA CX-9 STILL MAKING WAVES By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When you look into the market place these days vehicle are built and finally assembled all over the world. But for those who are still looking for that pure Japanese product line, well Mazda as in the CX-9 90 per cent of it’s parts are from Japan. That includes the engine and transmission as well as final assembly plant in Hiroshima, Japan. Fact of the matter is this baby is about as Japanese as it can be. Under the hood is a 3.7 liter DOHC 24-valve engine producing 273 horse power and 270 lbs per foot of torque. This translate into 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. This baby sends the power to the road on 20 inch aluminum Alloy wheels covered by P245/50R 20 inch tires. Among some of the features is rain sensing wipers and power open/close lift gate. This 7 passenger seating SUV has a 3spoke tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio and cruise control. The windows are power with express up and down for driver and front passenger. The leather wrapped shift knob
gives you that racecar life feel. When you punch this baby those horse quickly goes to work making you believe you are behind the wheel of a sport automobile. Our test car came in a Blue Reflex Mica point job and caught few eyes as we went about our ways during our weeklong test period. The heated 8-way driver seat with lumbar and 3 memory setting just another indication of just how comfortable this vehicle is overall. Now days SUVs are much more stylist than they use to be and have all but made American forget about the original Station Wagon. The Warranty for the new Mazda CX-9 is 36/month/36,000 miles bumperto-bumper and 60-month/60,000 mile power train warranty throw in 24-hour roadside assistance.
When it comes to safety Mazda went to bat for owners with ventilated 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS and EBD as well as brake assist. The suspension for the new Mazda is independent front Macpherson struts with rear multi-link suspension. Dynamic stability control and traction control along advanced dual front and side impact air bags. Other features such as anti-theft engine immobilizer and anti-theft alarm. Side-impact door beams and front and rear crumble zones plus rear cross traffic alert. Inside the new Mazda CX-9 you’ll find 60/40 second row seats with 50/50 third row split and both fold down. This goes well with the Bose Audio 10speaker system complete with Bluetooth and Sirius satellite radio.

KIA SORENTO EX MOVING UP THE LADDER By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View When we took deliver of the new 2014 KIA Sorento it brought back memories from years gone by. Fact is some three or four years after we started testing automobiles we had a KIA Sorento and it was all right, but let me tell you it have grown into one of the best buys in small SUV segments these days. We actually had to look at the nameplate to actually know what it was. As the years have gone by KIA has made a big in the small SUV segment and continues to climb the ladder. To begin with the new Sorento has the same styling found in more expensive entry level SUVs. Power comes in the form of a 3.3 Liter GDI CVVT V6 engine and a 6 speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic. This engine cranks out 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The engine is built in Korean while the engine is build here in the U.S. with the parts 50 per cent U.S. and 50 per cent Korean with the final assembly point right here in the U.S. An independent front and rear suspension with all wheel drive with locking center differential and yes 18-inch alloy wheels. Our test vehicle came in a Wave Blue/Beige color combination and got some attention in the parking lot at work. Each of the new SUV sort of take on the same overall look until you get up close. The new Sorento AWD we tested came with dual front advanced air bags front seatmounted side air bags and side curtains air bags for both 1st and 2nd row seating. But our model was not yet rated by the NHSTA. The front head rest are active and anti-lock brakes brings this baby to a smooth and safe stop. The doors and windows are power and there is power for outside mirrors also.
Interior wise the new Sorento had dual zone automatic climate control and rear camera display. The system is Sirius/XM satellite radio with 3-months free trial. Further on down the road of safety the new Sorento has tire pressure monitoring system along TCS and ESC plus Hill start assist control (HAC). The rear seats are 40/20/40 split folding for 2nd row with 2nd row armrest and cup holders. To round it all off the new Sorento has push button start with smart Key. I’ve realized that it was great to list all the attributes that I wanted him to have, and I was very specific. However, we often overlook the most obvious to just be open to the possibilities and in the interim prepare yourself to receive. Then it hit me well not quite hit me but more my inner voice speaking to me loudly saying that I stated exactly what I wanted, now it was
time to release it and continue on my merry way. And yes I said merry way, because by being happy and grateful for the here and now is a major part of the process. Often times we are preoccupied with when is it going to happen that we miss out on all the joy and love that we are currently receiving. It’s no race against the clock because when it comes and that person enters your life
that is willing to love you through the good the bad and ugly, it will have been well worth the wait. Don’t get sidetracked with when, where and how. But moreover, how wonderful it will be once it manifest. Don’t let the silence of being alone, be the opportunity for doubt to creep in. Look at yourself and realize the gift they will be receiving by choosing you.

ACURA RDX AWD IS OHIO GROWN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View This time around we test drove the all-new 2014 Acura RDX AWD SUV and found it to be truly grown right here in the United States. The final assembly is East Liberty, Ohio with the engine built in the U.S. and 70 per cent of its part are from the U.S. and Canada but the transmission is built in Japan. As most automakers are now doing massive productions in American plants, it clear to see how the trend is shaping up. The world’s automakers are getting closer to the source of their buying public. As most of you
already know American has a special love affair with their automobile and have been since the early 1900s when there was a Ford in the driveway of anyone who could afford to have one. This new Acura RDX is powered by a 3.5 Liter SOHC 24valve I-VTEC VCM II V6 engine. This baby cranks out 273 horsepower and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission for smooth shifting even when fully loaded. With sequential sport shift and paddle shifters you do get the racecar like feel when you are behind the wheel of this Acura. The

THE HISTORIC LIFE OF NELSON ‘MADIBA’ MANDELA By Paris Eley A King-Size View The historic life of Nelson Mandela has ended, at least on this plane, amid adoring eulogies and glowing tributes that are the just due of a righteous leader. But the man whose life personified the struggle that ultimately pushed South Africa into its first multiracial election is said to have begun life, with the name Rolihlahla,(oli-sha-sha), given to him by his father, which translates loosely, prophetically it seems, to “troublemaker.” He was the first member of his fam-
ily to get a formal education, and the first to instigate a student boycott while doing so. His bent toward activism and intolerance for injustice, invariably, put him squarely and violently, in conflict with the South African government. As a young law scholar, he joined the African National Congress where he fought the platform endorsed by The Afrikaner National Party that enforced racial segregation and stripped non-whites of economic and political power. As an ANC leader, Mandela advocated for reform peacefully, at first. Then in 1961, he launched a military wing called Spear of the Nation and a campaign of sabotage that he said was a last resort born of bloody government crackdowns. He was arrested and sentenced
to life in prison. He slept on the floor of a six-foot-wide cell and did hard labor in a quarry. While imprisoned, he organized fellow prisoners to continue fight for justice – and earned a law degree by correspondence. In 1985, like the warrior he was, he turned down the government’s offer to free him if he would give up armed struggle against the system that sought to dehumanize him. In 1989 President F.W. de Klerk set the stage for his release. Once released, Mandela proved himself a formidable negotiator as he pushed amid tension and violence for universal suffrage. No doubt that those whose comfort he afflicted and supremacy he challenged, thought of him in life as a troublemaker. But there are millions who honor him as
Madiba, after the Thembu chief who ruled in the Transkei in the 18th century and the name of the clan of which Mr. Mandela is a member. A clan name is much more important than a surname as it refers to the ancestor from which a person is descended. There are thankful South Africans who saw in his uncompromising insistence and agitation the courage of a warrior and the heart of a leader. In an emotional scene outside of Mandela’s house, a multi-racial crowd gathered late into the night, singing liberation songs, chanting and waving flags. Johannesburg resident Hamsa

FOOD TRUCK PARKS
Houston is widely known for having hundreds of food trucks. In fact, as many as 1400 food trucks are parked all over our city. At any time of day or night in any part of the city you are able to get something to eat from a rolling restaurant. Food trucks are so popular that there is even a list of the top 100 trucks in our town.
It started many years ago with the “Taco Trucks” that brought hot food to jobsites. Over the years the phenomenon evolved to have trucks parked in many parking lots all over town serving everything from Greek Fare to cupcakes. Almost any gas station or retail center has a food truck in the lot. Not limited to fast foods, you can select from wraps, crepes, pocket sandwiches and fried rice. There is even a food truck inside Minute Maid Park.
Recently there is a new trend: parking the trucks in one area and you going to the food. Sort of like dining out, but different! This is not a new idea as Austin has had a food truck park for over a year now. In June of this year the first food park was opened at 1504 St. Emmanuel. This is at the intersection of Polk one block from US 59. The park is close to BBVA Compass Stadium, Toyota Center, and the George R. Brown Convention Center. It is also within walking distance from Minute Maid Park. There is parking there for as many as 10 trucks. On any day there may be trucks in the lot with names like Bernie’s Burger Bus, Pho-Jita Fusion, The Hungry Lumberjack, and Zeapod Cakery. Food at the trucks will range from quite reasonable to fairly expensive. Even on a recent Sunday with
the Texans the only game in town there were three trucks in the park ranging from Jamaican Jerk to Whole foods. When sports events are at one of the parks or a convention is in town the park should be much busier and more variety should be available. There is a sports bar next to the park and the owners hope to build a rooftop bar over the bar. There are restrooms available and tables made from wooden pallets. While you are at the park, take a minute to enjoy the graffiti art on the buildings. Recently a second park opened on the west side of Houston. Located on Highway 6 just south of I-10, this former sellyour-own car lot is a bit larger. The My Food Park HTX opened in early November. It has room for about a dozen trucks. On a recent visit on Friday around 1:00 PM, there were about nine unique vendors. I found the prices at a couple of the trucks were a bit high but others were just as reasonable as expected. If there is any complaint about either of these parks it is the noise level. Because electricity is not provided the drone of generators is constant. It would be great if the owners of one of these places had a single large generator behind the trucks and allowed everyone to plug in.
Reviewing an individual food truck here is almost useless. The selection of trucks varies daily and everyone’s taste is very different. If you go to a park, walk around a bit and look what is available. There is certainly something to pique your interest. Apparently gourmet food on wheels is here to stay!

JUSTICE SEEKERS TEXAS HOST 6TH ANNUAL BRYANT JOSEPH CHRISTMAS IN THE COMMUNITY By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Dallas, Texas-On Saturday December 21st we made a visit to big D and this time we had plenty to do. Thanks to Rev. Ronald Wright of Gods’ Community Church of Joy and Justice Seeker-Texas we were honored with the Esther M. Richardson Humanitarian Award for 2013. Ms. Richardson was joined by Rena Mae LaRusso and the two lovely ladies enjoyed themselves very much. We learned Ms Richardson will be turning 101 in early January and is the longest living member of Gaines Chapel AME Church and still sings on Sundays and even took advantage of the Fried Chicken passed out by Rev Ronald Wright. It took place during the 6th Annual Bryant Joseph Christmas in the Community celebration. The event held to honor the late Bryant Joseph who passed away in September of 2007 but not before he turned around the program at South Dallas Fred Florence Middle school. In less than 2 and one-half school years Joseph took a low performing school and led it to be in the tops in the area, but passed away
in his third year at the school. Please see his life’s story in this same edition. We will be following up with the Joseph Family! The program has grown over the years and the Dallas County Sheriff Department have joined in and Captain Mark Howard and his staff were out in big numbers. Giving away Bikes and Food for needy families as more than 2,000 people gathered at the P.C. Cobb Stadium Field house. Seeing the photos on the walls of some the Dallas Metroplex greatest hoop stars brought back memories. Jerry Jacob talked about the late Bryant Joseph and several people perform including The Chosen One and Tanya Jones and Tammie Schaefer to name a few. The GCCOJ praise dance group also performed on this day. The guest speaker former Dallas Mavericks Rolando Blackman who is now the Director of Basketball Development for the team stressed education to the kids. Blackman who says he live only 5 minutes from the South Dallas Neighborhood and is will to always come out and give back to the community. Blackman says he is very close

PHILADELPHIA- In one of the most exciting non-conference games in the history of Texas Southern Tigers basketball center Aaric Murray scored 48 points to lead the Tigers to a 9089 upset win over Temple on the road in front of a stunned Owls home crowd.

The 6-10 big man was unstoppable the majority of the night scoring bucket after bucket against a Temple program that had never given up that many points against an opposing player in school history. In addition to that new mark set,
Murray also set records for the most points ever scored at the Liacouras Center. His 48 point explosion also set the standard for most points scored in a regular season game in Division I basketball this season. The Philadelphia native also became the first NCAA Division I player taller than six foot ten inches in height to score 48 points in over a decade while also becoming the first player to connect on 20+ field goals in a game since 2011 (J. Fredette). After a late scoring rally gave Temple a one-point lead with 14 seconds remaining, Madarious Gibbs was fouled at the other end of the floor after collecting an offensive rebound. He hit 2of-2 with seven seconds remaining to help seal the game in
TSU’s favor. The Owls were able to rebound a missed shot with one second remaining, but a shot at the buzzer was ruled too late after review. Texas Southern led by as many as 14 points in the second half before seeing Temple mount a comeback down the stretch. The shooting percentages were impressive for both teams, particularly in the first half. Texas Southern shot 59 percent in the contest, while Temple hit at a 56 percent clip. The first half was a high-scoring affair with a combined 87 points scored by the break. Both teams shot over 60 percent, with Texas Southern edging the Owls 64 percent to 62 percent. Murray had 21 first-half points for the Tigers, while DeCosey led Temple with 11 points, shooting a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor. The Tigers jumped out to an early eight-point, 16-8 lead in the first five minutes, which would be their largest lead of the half. Sparked by a three-pointer from Temple used a 9-1 run to tie the game at 17-17 just past the 12-minute mark.
an 8-2 run got the Owls within seven, 69-62 at 10:38, but Murray struck again with a three-pointer to get his team’s lead back to double digits. Trailing by seven, 78-71 with just under seven minutes remaining, Temple used a 13-5 run to come within a point, 8382 with 1:20 remaining. The Tigers then went back ahead by six thanks to a pair of buckets from Murray over a 10-second stretch. “Aaric was huge for us tonight,” said TSU head coach Mike Davis. “He was able to get the job done in a variety of ways both inside and out. This was a big win for our team, and our basketball program as we close out the non-conference portion of our schedule and move into conference play.” Texas Southern will return home for the next few days before traveling to Fort Worth to take on TCU on December 29th.
The Tigers went on to lead by six points on three more occasions, the final time at 32-26. The Owls then hit their next six shots in a row from the field to tie the game at 40-40. Texas Southern went back ahead by five before the Owls hit a buzzer-beating jumper to close the gap to 45-42 at halftime. Murray scored on his first four field goal attempts of the second half, and the Tigers quickly increased a three-point halftime lead to 12, 58-46 at 16:19. Arlington, Texas-The Allen High School Football Eagles soared to new heights as they completed their first ever 16-0 season. Whipping the hard fighting Pearland Oilers 63-28 before a record crowd of 54,347 fans at A T & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pearland jumped to a 70lead when Connor Heath hit Carter Jefferson from 12 yards out. But the Eagles responded when Jaelen Barlow ran 6 yards to tie the score. The Oilers went up again as Zachary Boegler scored from a yard out. Then Chad Adams took the kickoff back 83 yards to tie the score again. Then Kyler Murray went to work hitting Jalen Guyton from 19 yards out then finding Cole Carter from 9 yards out. Jalen Barlow scored for the second time from 2 yards out before Pearland answered with a Zachary Boegler pass to Hayden Cole of 5 yards to brake the cycle. But Allen was not done Murray hit Guyton from 36 yards out and found Carter again
from 18 yards out. After giving Chad Adams a chance to score from 38 yards on his only carry of the night, Murray then took matters into his own hands with 1 minute left and raced 37 yards for another score and their record 63 points. The game took an even 3 hours to play and Allen band showed up with more than 800 students clearly the largest in the Nation. Fact is some people consider Allen to be the National Champs, but coach Tom Westerberg a Texas A & M graduate says that’s for
others he and his team are glad to be 16-0 and want to get some rest and celebrate this long run they just had.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL WEEKEND CEDAR HILL BEATS KATY FOR CLASS 5A DIVISION II TITLE
Arlington, Texas-With revenge in their minds and on their hearts the Longhorns of Cedar Hill High School turned back the Katy Tigers 34-24 in the state’s class 5A Division II title game. The Longhorns jumped on the board first when Brooks Ralph booted a 38 yard field goal and they took a 3-0 lead into the second period. All through the first 8 minutes of the second period the Horns worked over Katy pretty good. On a wildcat play Demarkas Lodge broke around left end picked up good yardage and then fumbled, the ball bounced right up into the arms of Denvre Daniels who raced 39 yards for a score. This gave the Longhorns a 10-0 lead.
Let us not forget they were playing the Katy Tigers who were in the title game for the 8th time. Rodney Anderson the all-state junior setback went 66 yards for a score. Followed by Sloan Spiller pass reception of 44 yards from sophomore QB Garrett Doiron. Following a turnover the Tigers struck again when JoVanni Stewart returned a fumble 77 yards for a score and the Tigers led it 21-10 at the half. When Manny Mendoza booted a 25 yard field goal midway the third period it was 24-10. But Cedar Hill came charging back when Demarkas Lodge broke free from 62 yards out but when the kick failed it was still 24-16. A field goal by Brooks Ralph of 25 yards close to with in 24-19. Katy turned it over and Justin
McMillan hit Demarkas Lodge from 3 yards out to give the Horns their first lead since before the half ended. The two point conversion gave them a 27-24 lead. But Katy would turn it over once again and this time Aca’Cedric Ware ran it in from 4 yards out . This is about the same amount of time Katy had left in the second period when they scored 21 points but this time they would not get in the end zone. The final score read 34-24 and Cedar Hill had beaten the Tigers for the class 5A Division II title.

By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Arlington, Texas-Most of the times when you control the line of scrimmage you win the football game. Despite of the fact the Katy Tigers had a senior offensive front, they meet a group of guys from Cedar Hill that was up the task and then some. Led by the massive Xavier Washington the defensive front for Cedar Hill held Katy to 3 points in the second half. Washington, Doveon Dillard and Richard Moore took turns stopping Katy from getting much needed yards. Jonathan Buffin had six tackles while Dillard had six and Moore chipped in six as well to go with Washington game leading 8 tackles. “We felt if we held on we could win the game, it’s been tough for us but that made us better”. The big lineman was all over the field as Katy blocked him at times but for the most part he had his way and made the game tough for Katy runners. As the game moved into the second half he begin getting to the Tigers QB but the sophomore still managed to complete 8 of 12 most of which
in the 21 point second period. But in the second half he was sacked three times as well as spent a lot of time trying to get away from the Longhorns rush. For his efforts Washington walked away with the game’s Defensive MVP.
STUDENT OF THE WEEK HALEY WASHINGTON: AVEDA HAIR INSTITUTE Dallas, Texas-While covering the Justice Seeker Texas (6th Annual Bryant Joseph-Christmas in the Community) event we noticed one of the performer, The Chosen One. A charming, talented and lovely young lady who was praise dancing. We later found out she’s Haley Washington a student at the Aveda Hair School in Dallas and doing very well. Having a love for Math (Algebra) in the classroom in high school Haley says she use to think about how much she could make working in the Hair care industry. “At some point I certainly want to operate my own Hair Salon but to also get a business management degree so I can be a good manager”. She went on to add it doesn’t do any good to make a

By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Arlington, Texas-The Longhorns of Cedar Hill high school won the class 5A Division II State Championship before more than 30 Thousand fans at A T & T Stadium. Head coach Joey McGuire was happy after his horns came back from a 21-10 half-time deficit to beat the Katy Tigers 34-24. “We told our team we had been getting beaten in the last 7 minutes of ballgames a year ago and we convinced them to play the full game and it turned out to be the difference maker for us”. McGuire is assisted by Kevin Benjamin, Chris Eldridge, Michael Glaze, Rodney Ingram, Cory Jennings, Steven Lemley, Kyle Morales, Louis Oubre, Calvin Rizicka, James Sapp, Stephen Smith and Aaron Woods. All should be commended for a job well done on this 14-2 season.

As she completed her routine the people at the Cobb Center gave her a big round of applauds. On Sundays you’ll find Haley down at The Love of God Church and she says it has gone a great ways in making her a better person. “I’ve been taught to walk the path that God wants

As far as the rematch with Katy, coach McGuire felt with Demarkus Lodge in the Wildcat they were going to win the game on that fourth down play. “Lodge had to a good run from me to and I can tell when I’m out the path”. Haley thanks her mother for keeping her in line during her formative years. “Oh yes she just said in order for you to have this, this is what you must do and keep making those A s in the classroom if you want to better things in life. We moved on to ask Haley if she were in charge of the Aveda Hair School would she change anything. “Yes because we go to school 11 hours a day for three days a week and sure it’s great to be off two days, but

Adams closed by saying he felt great being part of a 16-0 team and says their togetherness was the key to their success this season.

A RISING STAR: TREVION (JJ) MARTIN - FLAG COBRAS - JUSTIN MCMILLAN - CEDAR HILL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View TREVIO (JJ) MARTI FLAG COBRAS A lot of great backs have scored touchdowns at Aldine’s Thorne Stadium but Trevion Martin is probably the first of six year old first grader to do so. Martin scored three times including a back breaking 67 yard run to give the Flag Studewood Cobras a commanding lead of 13-0 over the Southeast Lions. It was his second score and he would later had a 38 yard score in the second half as the Flag Cobras
rolled to a 21-0 victory with the temperatures in the mid-thirties. Martin a first grader at Anderson Academy loves Art best in the cross room and says he felt the South East Lions had a pretty good team but the Cobras were ready for them. Appearing somewhat shy JJ as his friends and family calls him wasted no time in taking the snap from center and breaking to the outside as the Lions just couldn’t contain him all game long. Going over 150 total yards rushing and clearly the game’s MVP for the Super Bowl 2013. Really not having much to say JJ let his running the football speak for him. But on the other side of the ball he did a super job of making stops and says he is looking forward to playing tackle freshman football next season. The Independent Youth Sports Association (IYSA) had a great year plus they presented a Cotton Bowl for runner-up teams as a consolation prize as well as Super Bowls titles for all four divisions.

that name fits Cedar Hill QB Justin McMillan. The junior signal caller kept his pose and when Katy left the door open on a roll out to his left he found Demarkas Lodge for a 3 yard score that put the game out of reach. McMillan refused to take credit for the score and passed all the praises right on to his star receiver. “Dmarkas and the rest of our receivers are watching for me and when I’m on trouble they come back to me to make the throw easier”. Hitting on 10 of 16 passes for 52 yards, but the 3 yard score won the game for his team. McMillan rushed 5 times for only 10 yards in the game but one of those was for 9 yards and a key first down! Expecting a real up and down game from the well balanced Tigers of Katy, McMillan said their coaches had them ready for the fight. “Our coaches told us we were playing a real good team and we would have to fight hard to win the state title over them”. McMillan said they must stay consisted in order to beat
them. As far as the game winning score McMillan said he never saw it coming. “That wasn’t the original call on that play but when I scrambled Demarkas got open and I just saw him at the last minute and flipped the ball out to him and he made the play”. Katy scored 21 points in a three minute span, but our defense was doing a pretty good job against this power house team, so we decid-
ed it was time our offense helped them out a bit”. In closing McMillan added the team was used to playing tight games and had a habit of getting beat in the last 7 minutes. “Last year we were up on Katy with 7 minutes left and we said not this time around, no way”. The DFW is a big family and they had several state titles to prove it.

COBRAS FLAG TEAM COMPLETES PERFECT SEASON WITH SUPERBOWL TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Studewood Cobras flag team of coach Clourid Johnson made it a clean sweep in 2013 after they beat the Southeast Lions 21-0. Never before has there been a flag team that could actually throw the football and complete passes. After talking with head coach Clourid Johnson we learn Johnson realized his team had several players who could actually throw the football and later found out he had a couple that could actually catch it. “ Once I saw that we decided to put in some plays and see how it work and then we got pretty good at it so we kept it up”. Johnson who is excited to be involved with the Cobras and look to make the most of his stay. Cobras President Walter Penrice says he’s excited to have Johnson along with other young coaches come into the organization. “Yes King we been at this for a long time and it wonderful knowing these younger guys are coming in and helping the Cobras”. Penrice went on to praise all his coaches on a job
well done.

STUDEWOOD COBRAS CLOSE OUT 37TH SEASON By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Studewood Cobras closed out their 37th season when they held their annual Banquet at the Aldine’s Campbell Center. With nearly 700 people in attendance the Cobra thanked Fiesta for once again being their lead sponsor and all the moms and dads who volunteered to help make 2013 one of their most exciting seasons. On the field the Cobras Flag team went unbeaten and won the Super Bowl title over the Southeast Lions 21-0. The Freshmen team were Super Bowl Runner-ups after losing in the title game to the Southeast Lions 21-13. The JV team lost in the conference finals but came back to win the Cotton Bowl over the Rosewood Tigers. The Varsity team also lost in the conference finals and came back to win big over the Rosewood Tigers in the Cotton Bowl. For those of you who don’t follow the Independent Youth Sports Association, the Cotton Bowl was new this year for the League and was a great success. One of the players who will be leaving the Cobras for middle school is Jorden Gidrey, who joined the Cobras in 2007. His Mom Crystal and Dad Ed Gidrey are very proud of him for his Super career with the Cobras. Jorden took home the MVP in 2007, voted Most Outstanding in 2008, Won AllAmerican in 2009, Rookie of the
Year in 2010 and 2012, Cobra Prince in 2011, Super Bowl Winner in 2011, Fiesta Student of the Week 2011 and Super Bowl runner-up in 2012 and Cotton Bowl winner in 2013. Good Luck Jorden as you move forward.

A brief history clearly shows the Cobras started in 1976 as the late Bud McCoy and the late Orelia Smith teamed with Shannon Powell of the Harris County Sheriff Department and James (Big Daddy Pen ) Penrice to form the Charlotte Allen Cobras. But a year or so later they were told they could not use the HISD Elementary School’s name and thus the Studewood Cobras were born. A year or so later Walter Penrice joined his brother Big Pen and the two have won more than 35 Super Bowls over the years. This is extremely heartwarming The 2013 Cobras Freshmen squad

POLITE LEADS FRESHMAN LIONS PAST COBRAS FOR IYSA SUPERBOWL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the temperature continued to drop and a slight rain begin to fall the Freshman South East Lions jumped to a 13-0 lead at the half and held on to beat the Cobras 21-13 to win the Super
Bowl title for 2013. The Lions were led by quarterback Samuel Polite who scored the last touchdown and added a two point conversion when he tossed a perfect pass to his end to basically put the game out of reach for the Cobras.
With their music going strong and their fans braving the cold weather at Thorne Stadium this team won the title and enjoyed every moment of it.
Later in the game after a long run Polite sprung his ankle and had to leave the game. But he had given his team a lead they would hold on to and win the title.

GREGORY LEE ROBINSON-THE DIARY OF A SOUL MAN-NEW GOSPEL CD By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Gregory Lee Robinson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 31, 1955. As a child he was influenced by Jazz, Blues, Rhythm and Blues as well as Soul and Gospel music. Robinson the first cousin of the late Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (Little Willie John) a great from the mid-fifties when he scored big on the hit song “Fever”. Lee a self-taught drummer who formed a band while in high school with his younger brother Michael Robinson. They performed locally as Lee led top 40 Songs of that era.

Lee learned was introduced to different sounds of music and knew what the record companies were looking for. In 1987 Lee re-entered to Military and was stationed in Germany. performing one night something inside him spoke and said “All souls are mine”. Lee proclaims he has always gotten down on his knees in prayer before going to bed no mater what happen prior to the end of his day. This was something he learned in his upbringing in the Baptist Church. Lee begin to search the scriptures and found that God had said to Ezekiel. The CD Dairy of a Soul Man” reflects the songs of a born again soul singer, who
sings about God and his son Jesus. Lee credits Chris Lieck and is staff for an incredible job brining this CD to life. “I appreciate his patience with me and how the music amalgams with the vocals and respect his musical boldness as well as his genius of mixing and mastering these songs”.

UH Cougars Todd Buchanan resigns days before The American Conference play begins
Rice wins a Conference USA Bowling in Memphis Not since the days of Jess Neely walking the sidelines (hat and 3/4 coat), has there been this kind of excitement toward Rice Owl football. Given the years it took to get to this point. For the Rice Owls that watched those games and are still round today to watch these Rice Owls play the game of football. They have to be extracted, considering that a few years ago there was an uprising about to shut down football on Rice University Campus and make a go at NCAA Division 1-AAA. Basically, it is a college athletic program that has all Div1 sports, but football. Thankfully that didn’t happen. Are the city would not be enjoying a Conference USA Championship, at Rice University. After beating Tulane 41-24, for the 2013 Conference USA Football Championship. Then excepting the Liberty Bowl invitation. It’s off to Memphis for a Dec 31 bowl against SEC representative Mississippi State. With winning comes accolades and rewards. This Rice Owl crew landed 5 on the C-USA 1st team (Charles Ross, Nate Richards, Phillip Gaines, Trevor Gillette, Christian Covington). 5 on 2nd team (Chris Boswell, Michael Kutzler, Turner Petersen, Bryce Callahan, Jordan Taylor). Kansas has stole Asst David Beaty. Defensive Co-ord is up for the Frank Broyles award for top Assistant Coach 2013. Coach David Bailiff took his time putting his stamp on this program. Went through some roller coaster times. But, still was able to keep the ship headed in the right direction. Under his watch, the Owls have gone to 2 previous Bowls and this makes the third. Going back to back 2012-13. And now with a Championship under his belt, a C-USA Coach of the Year( 2013), a finalist for Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year (2013). It could get interesting

Money wont be problem to buy out a contract, if need be. And now that a committee has been put in place. They will need to address the afore mentioned items. Then move on to what it will take to get that person to Texas. The one process that shouldn’t belong and drawn out are the 1-on-1 interview process. The list should be no more than five names long. Then once you decide on THAT guy. GO GET HIM! But, this committee better be sure this is who Texas needs to move the program forward for years to come. So there wont be another situation like Tennessee. They have yet to recover. As much as it is to make some of the people happy. This had better be about making the right hire for right reasons. Keeping the above scriptures in mind, the scriptures also teach that as Christians, we are not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies see (1Tim.1:4). Christians must not live by the flesh anymore, if they have put on the new man in baptism, and that NEW man MUST be SPIRITUAL (Rom.8:5-9). There is a SPIRITUAL family reunion each Lord’s Day, and it must be attended (Heb.10:25). We all have kinsmen in the flesh, but Christians, (those that have put on Christ in baptism according to scripture), must remember who their family truly is, and that the reunion is set on each Lord’s Day. We are not to have any fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but, rather reprove them (2Cor.6:14-18; 7:1-3; Eph.5:6-11). Christians can’t have it our way, we must deny ourselves (Definition: deny ourselves -533 aparneomai (ap-arneh’-om-ahee); from 575 and 720; to deny utterly, i.e. disown, abstain a) to affirm that one has no acquaintance or connection with someone b) to forget oneself, lose sight of oneself and one’s own interests: KJV— deny), (Matt.16:24-25; John 12:25-26; Titus 2:12-15). We must do it Christ’s way, because we are NOT our own, we have been bought with a price (1Cor.6:20; 7:23). The day that we are born in the flesh, is the day we began to die, even eternally; so why would one glorify such (see Eccl. 4:1-4)? The day that we are buried with Christ in baptism, thereby putting on Christ (Rom.10:14-17; Mark16:16; Luke 13:3; Rom.10:9-10; Acts2:38; Rom.6:3-8; Gal.3:27 Col.2:112), we are then born again (John3:1-7; 1Pet.1:18-25). We then MUST rise up a new SPIR-
ITUAL man, a new CREATURE according to the apostle’s doctrine. ALL things MUST become new (2Cor.5:14-17). Then we began to live, even eternally; ONLY if we hold to the traditions and commandments, that we have read and learned in the apostle’s doctrine (John 17:20-21; Acts2:41-42; 1Cor.11:1-3; Eph.3:1-7; Philip.4:6-9; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John4:5-6; Jude1:16-19). Now this is something to glorify and then we will be glorying in the Lord, not in the flesh (1Cor.1:26-31). Christians must celebrate this spiritual birth through obedience, and should be thankful for it every moment of the day. There are three places in scripture, the word birthday as something celebrated or kept, is found. Executions happened at both of these celebrations, they being not followers of God, Christ, or the Apostles (Gen.40:1-23; Matt.14:1-12; Mark 6:14-30). There are no examples of Jesus himself, his apostles or anyone that followed them, ever celebrating carnal birthdays or reunions in any manner. We believe this is true because these are CARNAL, FLESHLY, EARTHLY traditions. (Rom.8:410; Philip.3:18-20). Contrary to what is being taught, Christianity is SERIOUS, and there is nothing more serious than it; in that it is about either having eternal life in HEAVEN
or eternal death and torment in HELL(Mark9:43-48; Luke16:19-25; Heb.10:24-31). If Christ and those before us SUFFERED not to participate in such things, why do “Christians” today think they have the right not to suffer? True Christians today must SUFFER also, please read; “I Jn 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”We MUST also SUFFER to be obedient and follow those before us, so that we can cease from sin (Philip.1:29; Heb.5:8-9; 1 Pet 4:1-4). BRYANT F. JOSEPH Bryant Joseph was called home to be with his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on September 17, 2007 at approximately 1:30 a.m. in Dallas Texas. He was born March 17, 1973 to the blessed union of Ulysses & Linda Joseph. Bryant was a very loving, faithful and dedicated person, scholastic leader & most importantly husband to Charrell and father to Imani Marie and Baby Joseph. He was a man of honor, dignity & respect. God blessed this world by lending us his gift, Bryant Joseph, for thirty-four short but sweet years. Bryant was baptized at birth & personally accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Scott United Methodist Church grow-
ing up, in Baton Rouge, LA. He maintained & grew his faith and relationship with God, attending Corpus Christi Church in Chicago where he and Charrell were married. When Dallas became Charrell & Bryants’ home, they joined the mighty membership of St. Luke United Methodist Church. Bryant attended Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. At Xavier Bryant obtained his Bachelors’ & Masters’ Degrees in 1995 & 1996 respectively. While attending Xavier, Bryant met his best friend & wife, Charrell. After graduation Bryant relocated to Chicago to begin his career and be with Charrell. They wed in Chicago on August 7, 1999. Bryant started his journey of “giving back” through education by teaching Biology & Chemistry at Lucy Flower High School. Bryant quickly excelled
& became Head of the Science Department. In 2001 Bryant & Charrell relocated to Dallas, TX. There Bryant excelled in all he did and took on many new roles: Second Masters’ Degree recipient, Texas A&M Commerce; Vice Principal & Dean of Instruction at W.H Gaston Middle School, Principal of Fred F. Florence Middle School, Entrepreneur and Franchise CoOwner of Salad Creations Restaurant, & most precious to him Father of Imani Marie & Baby Joseph.

It is hoped this award will partner with other grants, awards and scholarships to bridge the economic gap for At Risk Afro American students desirous of a college education. Trustees of the scholarship fund have awarded one thousand dollar ($1000.00) scholarships each to three students dating back to 2008. The increase in tuition, classroom materials and housing are rapidly putting a college education out of reach for many. It was Bryant’s thoughts and desires to empower students to get a good education. He knew that wanting a good education is one thing but paying for it was another. His administrative style empowered students to be the best that they could and that a good education was priceless. This scholarship and/or award were set up to continue his legacy. Friends, family and persons with similar views are encouraged to contribute to this 501 3C Tax Credit Scholarship Fund. All funds will be disbursed to deserving students form Baton Rouge Magnet who has an interest in pursuing a degree at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Arlington-Texas-Wide receiver and utility player Demarkus Lodge led Cedar Hill past Katy to win the class 5A Division II championship. The multi-talented junior who plays wide receiver most of the time was inserted into the lineup in the wildcat offense and took the ball racing for big yards only to fumble and his teammate Denvre Daniels pick it up and race 46 yards for a score. At that point the score ready Cedar Hill 10-Katy 0. But with 4.02 left in the third period almost to the second one quarter later Lodge did his thing and this time it was a 62 yard scoring run to put some distance between them and Katy with the third period coming to an end. The fourth period was all Cedar Hill as Brooks Ralph booted a 25 yard field goal closing the gap to 24-19. Then following another Katy turnover Lodge broke the game open when he grabbed a 3 yard scoring pass from QB Justin McMillan. This gave the Longhorns their first lead since the first half and they never looked back. Following another Katy turnover Aca’Cedric Ware ran in from 4 yards out to make it 34-24 and the Horns begin the celebrate with a little more than three minutes left in the game. “Our coaching told us to keep follow-
ing their instructions and take advantage of our speed and win the game”. We spoke more with Lodge he added it all starts with boot camp. “We knew we were building warriors during our camp and we could win the state title if we continue to work hard”. The fleet foot receiver had 5 catches for 26 yards and one touchdown and rushed 3 times for 104 yards and another score in the win. This kid has got the total package.
As we closed out conversation with talented junior we learned they felt all along they were going to win the game. “We are coached to keep fighting and never give us so we knew we were going to win the game in the end, because we never quit”. Revenge was on the Longhorns minds and it played a role in their march to the state title. KYLER MURRAY-ALLE Arlington, Texas- accounting for some 468 yards and five touchdowns Kyler Murray won his second state championship when Allen whipped Pearland 63-28. It looked for a while as if the Oilers were going to hang in there with Allen with scored tied 14 after one period. But Murray and the gang of Eagles begin clawing into the Oilers defense and the points continued to come as they soared to 21 more points in the second period. As if that wasn’t enough the Eagles
continued to soar after the break by adding 21 more points in the third period. A record crowd of 54, 347 watched inside TA T & T stadium as Murray connected on 11 of 14 for 280 yards and four touchdowns. In his spare time he rushed for 13 times picking up 188 yards and scoring on a 37 yard run. Pearland defense was led by Justin Phillips and he had nothing but praises for Murray and the way he played. “We knew going in he’s a quality QB, who can hurt

you with his legs as well as with him arm and today he did both”. Cole Carter a senior wide receiver was one of his main targets with 5 receptions for 111 yards and two scores. But the balance came in as Jalen Guyton grabbed 4 ball for 125 yards and he too had two scores. Another impressive thing about Murray was he was not sacked in the game and the Eagles never punted during the game while Pearland was forced to punt 6 times.
