Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)

LEXUS IS 350 CONVERTIBLE Bastrop, Louisiana-Two weeks ago we took one of the most difficult trips of my life going home to help bury my brother (Charlie E. Winston), the Lexus IS 350 Convertible made the trip easier. Because the smooth riding Lexus gave me a good feeling and made me think of the good times we had during the near 43 years we spent in Houston, Texas together. It was

Charlie who gave me a start in Houston in May of 1970 and for that we will be forever grateful to him. The solid built IS 350C is powered by a 306 horsepower 3.5 Liter DOHC 24 valve V6 dual VVT-I engine that produces 277 pounds per foot of torque. Its mated to a six speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-

I). Power comes thrusting to the ground on 17-inch aluminum Alloy wheels circulating with a set of all season tires. The front has P225/45R17 and the rear has a set of P245/45R 17-inch wheels. This combination helps make the handling greater for this vehicle because the front tires are more nimble for steering purposes while the rear will give the vehicle most thrust and performance capability. These are the arrangements that are normally found one formula one racing vehicles. Keep in mind the IS 350C is right up there with the rest of the world finest roadsters. Ventilated front and rear disc brakes help makes stopping about as say as it can be when you consider the fact you know you are going to be speeding in this vehicle.

Without a doubt the smooth ride with all that luxury is certainly going to make you want to go real fast. Safety features are at a high premium on this model and to name a very is anti-locking brakes with EBD and Brake Assist as well as smart stop technology. This unit is also equipped with vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management (VDIM) and has advanced front air bags (twin chamber for front passenger. Yes it also has driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seat mounted side impact airbags and supplemental restraint system. An alarm system complete with in-key Remote Control and stolen vehicle location and emergency assist button and enhanced roadside assistance. (1 year trial subscription included). A tire pressure monitor and tool kit as well as first aid kits rounds out the features. Once inside the luxury appointments just jump right out at you. For example a power tractable aluminum alloy convertible top easy access front passengers power seat slide foldable rear headrest. This seat is leather trimmed 10-way power for driver and front passenger with twoway power lumbar adjustments. The gauges are racecar like electroluminescent optitron and the

three spoke leather trimmed steering wheel and puddle lamps also. The F-Sport package comes with a Premium Audio with single in dash DVD/CD player with 12speaker 5.1 channel architecture, DVD audio and video, hard disc drive navigation system with backup camera ad Lexus Enform Application suite with Bing I Heart radio, Movietickets.com and many other options including face book places. This package also offers 18 inch wheels and tires for even more performance enhancing. The Lexus warranties include a four-year, 50,000 mile basic coverage and a five-year/70,000 mile power train and 5year/Unlimited mile corrosion perforation warranty. Lexus also offers an owner support package with each new Lexus with 24hour 365da/yr roadside assistance plan with complementary 1st and 2nd scheduled maintenance services and lodging or emergency brake down 100 miles from home. HOW THE TOWNS GOT THEIR NAMES

Out and About with John Engel I travel a lot around Texas, both for work and pleasure. Recently my mind wandered to the name of a couple of towns and I wondered how the names were chosen. Houston, for example is quite obvious. Originally Allen’s Landing, it was renamed to honor General Sam Houston after he defeated General Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto. Dallas is less certain about the origin of its name. When the area was settled in the 1840’s there were several people with the surname of Dallas which probably accounts for the name. Very little other information is available. San Antonio was received its name from a Portuguese Catholic priest friar and of the Franciscan Order. Saint Anthony of Pauda died in 1231 and was the second fastest canonized saint in Catholic history. El Paso is simply the Spanish words for the passage. This boarder town was long known as a gateway across the Rio Grande. Similarly, Laredo was named after the town of Laredo, Cantabria in Spain. It is very interesting how some of the smaller towns in our great

Page 5

note here. There is a building in Galveston built in the early 1900’s by the MKT Railroad. It is called the Katy Building and was a depot.) state received their names. Some are obvious like Centerville, which is almost halfway between Dallas and Houston. Baytown and Bay City were named for their proximity to their respective bodies of water. Deer Park received its name from the large herds of deer in the area. In the 1920’s the Griffing Brothers Nursery contracted to have several thousand pecan trees planted in Far East Texas. The area was named Pecan Groves and was later changed to just Groves. When the town incorporated, it kept the name Groves. Many of these trees and their descendants stand today producing those wonderful Texas pecans. Surprisingly, Orange, Texas was not named after Orange production. The town was originally named Madison but the name was changed to eliminate confusion with Madisonville. Orange was known for its 17 lumber mills which processed lumber from the Piney Woods of East Texas. Katy was named in honor of a railroad. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad laid tracks through the area between Houston and San Antonio. The railroad used the initials MKT to identify itself and officials nicknamed it the Katy Railroad. The town adopted the name. (Side

Pearland is another town named after an agricultural product. There were many varieties of fruit grown in the area and the name Pearland sort of evolved. The hurricanes that devastated Galveston in 1900 and 1915 destroyed most of the trees and they were never replanted. The name, however, stayed. Humble was named after Pleasant Smith Humble who opened a post office in his home and later became a Justice of the Peace. He also operated a fruit stand. In the early 20th century oil was located in the area and the town begat the Humble Oil Company which is the beginning of what is now the giant oil company Exxon Mobil. In the spring of 1895 a Quaker named Frank Jacob Brown, who had been an adventuresome buffalo hunter, and a Quaker named Thomas Hadley Lewis, who was a college educated man, felt directed to this area of the Gulf Coast to establish a community dedicated to God. Starting Quaker colonies was a common practice of the religious sect called Quakers or Friends, as they were part of the westward movement across the nation in the middle to late 1800s. (The terms Quaker and Friends are synonymous and used interchangeably.) This is how Friendswood received its name.

The Woodlands is a master planned community established by The Woodlands Corporation. The word “The” is officially part of the town’s name. (There are just three cities in Texas that have “The” in their name, The Woodlands, The Colony and The Grove.) It was developed in the oil boom days of the 19700’s making it a very new town by Texas standards. The tract of land where The Woodlands is situated was previously occupied by the Grogan-Cochran Lumber Mill. The entire community was planned to have a balance of residential housing, retail development and facilities such as conference centers, hotels and parks. Sugarland was developed on what once was the Oakland Plantation, a huge sugar plantation. It is the world headquarters for Imperial Sugar and once housed one of the largest cane sugar refineries in the country. Today, very little sugarcane is grown in the United States and in the late days on Imperial’s production in Texas imported sugar was refined here. The Imperial Sugar crown logo is seen over town and can even be seen on the overpasses that run through the area on US 59. These are just a few of the towns in Texas that have interesting names and origins. When you are traveling about give some thought as to how the town came to be. Texas is a very diverse state. We have cities named for agricultural products, religious beliefs, railroads and plantations. It once again shows how creative Texans can be. Happy travels!

A RA T By John Engel The other day I was driving past a school zone in the south end of town. A young mother in a nice SUV pulled out of the school. On the mirror hung a placard with a gold star and a name, presumably her child that was in the vehicle with her. The young woman was yacking away on her phone which is illegal in Texas. To make matters worse, she was not wearing a seat belt. Her lovely young daughter, no more than eight, was sitting in the front seat beside her. She also was NOT wearing a seat belt. I believe in the right of people to choose, but the safety of her child is another matter. Why in this day would someone not care enough about their offspring to allow them to ride in the front seat of a car with no seat belt in heavy traffic? In my car, a child as small as her would not activate the passenger air bags so she may be totally unprotected. My late wife watched one of her sons die in the car ahead of her as the result of a head on collision. This was in the 90’s when seat belt use was not mandatory. He may have lived if he was properly belted in. It does not matter if it is just a short ride home or if it is inconvenient to put it on or whatever other excuse. Please buckle up the kids before moving.

Team President Walter Penrice Jr. was joined by his assistance Alvina Reynolds V.P. and Carl Shields A.D. and Secretary Shewancia Batiste during the celebration. “King these people worked so hard to make this a reality and we are so proud of the work the parents, coaches and kids did this year for our teams". Penrice went to praise Mary Brown for allowing them to use space at their home to

store equipment and Traci Johnson for her hard work in decorating the tables and the stage for their banquet. “ "Many parents have called me this morning thanking me for a first class banquet King, but you know how we do it; we want to see to it that all our kids graduate high school and this is about more than football as you

know”. Penrice who got his start with the Studewood Cobras truly loves his work and has a full time job but always wants to help out the community in which he grew up. “King we are taking an active role in these kids’ lives because some of them need it, so we stress academics first and our kids are responding to what we are trying to get

them to do both on and off the field”. As we talked more with Walter he wanted to thank Cynthia Grant for helping him get hooked up with the North Forest School District. “She has been another in a long line of people who helped me out and kept things going smoothly for me and this organization”. In closing Penrice added he feels real good about their first three years and is looking forward to many more and he helps to

rebuild this community. “It’s our goal for every kid in this neighborhood to graduate high school and go on to lead a productive life”. It’s been some five years since Walter said he wanted strike out on his own and now he is living his dream and we are so happy for him and we are willing to help anyway we can to see to it things continue to go well for him!

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK RYSHINIQUE BALL-CLEAR SPRINGS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View With the game on the line and trailing by two points going into the fourth period the Lady Chargers of Clear Springs Jigh School went to their senior leadership. That being Ryshinique Ball on defense as the senior player batted away two shots and pulled down two key rebounds and had a steal as they scored the first eight points of the fourth period to regain the lead. Ball’s big defense help get senior leading scorer Courtnie Latham going as she scored on two big treys to open the game up. “Yes sir I would say our defense stepped up and got going so we got back into the lead and our veteran leadership showed”.

It was a slow second quarter as Clear Springs scored eight points while holding Seven Lakes to only six. “I felt we had to make up for that and duringhe fourth period we got it going pretty good (20 points)”. Stopping short of saying their big game with Bellaire on Friday night 2/22/13 took something out of them, but each of the girls made it clear they felt sort of sluggest going into the game. “Not to make any excuses but we felt we had a good chance in the early going but just didn’t get rolling until late in the game”. Talking with her teammates at the end of the third period Ball told the girls “Let’s go get this done” and they did. The net result is a trip to Austin for the state girls’ Class 5A tournament.

COACH OF THE WEEK - PAMELA CRAWFORD - CLEAR SPRINGS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View They say the third time is the charm, that’s the case as the Lady Chargers of Clear Springs High School won the girls Class 5A Region III championship. They beat a hard fighting Seven Lakes team 55-44 with a 20 point explosion in the fourth period to earn a trip to Austin for the state tournament. Head coach Pamela Crawford is no stranger to winning basketball played at Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech in her playing days had her girls posed to win the Region III title this time around. “We worked so hard since day one at this school and to be standing here Region III champs and going to state, it’s a wonderful feeling”. Coach Crawford went on to say she is extremely proud of the young ladies for their hard work they put forth. “We changed our game plan because we had too, they were holding Brooke with Christen (Inman) and her size was brothering us so we made the switch and Courtnie (Latham) was able to get going”.

team showed a little fatigue from their showdown with Houston Bellaire. “We make no excuses but Bellaire is a great team and it was a tough game for us and I think we just kind of got off to a slow start today, but I’m proud of the way our girls came out of it.

Defense was the key and every time the Lady Chargers are in their second game at the Campbell Center they shoot poorly. “I don’t know what it is, but we turned to defense and Ryshinique (Ball) woke up and starting playing her game and got us rolling”. The coach went on to say her

RISING STARS - KAYLA WEST – TSU - KAYLIN ROHER - CLEAR SPRINGS By Dr. Victor Keys A King-Size View KAYLA WEST – TSU The Lady Tigers came out with an impressive win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, February 16, 2013. It was a tough battle from the tipoff to the end of the game. Both teams had leads throughout the game but, when the final seconds ticked off the clock; it was the TSU Lady Tigers who walked away with the win (TSU 63 Arkansas-Pine Bluff 59). Kayla West led the Lady Tigers

with 14 points in the win. During the game, Coach Cooper called several time-outs and during one time-out she asked her team “where is your pride”? She also made some defensive moves, which allowed the Lady Tigers to regain their composure, defend better, and put Arkansas-Pine Bluff away. When I asked West, what were the determining factors that ensured the win for the Lady Tigers, she responded “Coach Cooper is a great basketball coach, she expects us to give all we have during a game and today we left everything on the floor. This was a great win for us, I am so proud to be on this team and to have Coach Cooper as our coach”. She added that “Arkansas-Pine Bluff is a very good team, they also fought hard and made a few runs during the game but, we tightened up our defense, got several key turnovers and managed to get the win”. KAYLIN ROHER CLEAR SPRINGS

ON FRIDAY AT THE STATE CHAMPINSHIP TOURNAMENT’. Kaylin made light of the injury as she had it wrapped in an ice pack, but she was still in good spirits. “When one of us can’t score one of the other girls picks up the slack and I knew Courtnie would get us going and she did”. Kaylin was referring to Tulane signee Courtnie Latham who scored with two big treys to open the fourth period. This happened during an 8-0 run to seal the win for the Lady Chargers over a hard fighting Seven Lakes team. “We came out sort of flat and not to make excuses but we played a very hard game against Bellaire last night". Winning 80-65 over the Cardinals and chasing A. J. Alix who had 38 points in the Lady Cards loss had taken its toll on the Chargers. STUDENTS OF THE WEEK PHILLIP WILLIAMS-B.C. ELMORE JAIDEN ANDERSON-KEY MIDDLE SCHOOL PHILLIP WILLIAMS B.C. ELMORE This time around we have an interesting guy from B.C. Elmore Elementary School. He’s the handsome lad Phillip Williams who directed the Rosewood Tigers past the Studewood Cobras for the Super Bowl Title this past December. He said with the exception for one B he made all Straight A on his report card. In his spare time he likes to collect things and also play basketball. But when

we notice his leadership on the football field you would think this kid has a future in the sport. However his goal in life is become a better person day in and day out. “I consider myself a very well talented athlete but there are some things I have to work on in life to be a better all around person. Williams added The Light House Church has been a big help in his development. “Yes sir it has helped me a great deal because I know the preacher teaches us to under-

stand where we went wrong and learn from our mistakes”.

JAIDEN ANDERSON KEY MIDDLE SCHOOL

The talented youngster is the son of Barbara Phillips and Steve Williams and is well respected by his teammates and coaches.

As we doubled up this edition we also have another outstanding honor role student from Key Middle school. Jaiden is the mild-mannered handsome son of Wynnsheka and John Anderson and is in the 7th grade at Key.

When asked who is his most driving force in life Phillip said two people. First his Mom Barbara and his Nanny (Fallon Carlin) they made sure I get the message when I make a mistake because they will us football to straighten me out. “If I do anything I don’t get to play football”. On the subject of school changes Phillip said students who break the rules should be sent home so they will know the seriousness of their actions and the penalties that comes with it. First year QB Robert Griffin III is his favorite football player in the NFL and Phillip explained. “You see he is just a rookie but I like the way he took over the team and gathered the support of the veteran players”. He added that’s the kind of leader he hopes to become. When asked what he thought about Barack Obama becoming the first African American President of the United States he smiled and said; “I like it because it shows Black people are somebody and it makes others want to work harder to reach their goals in life.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK COURTNIE LATHAM - CLEAR SPRINGS When the game is on the line you go to your best player right? That was the case as Courtnie Latham scored the first eight points of the fourth period and 13 of her 21 points to lead Clear Springs to the Region III Class 5A girls title. The senior who has signed to attend Tulane this fall hit two treys then drove to the hoop and was fouled and made both free throws. “Yes sir I’d say it help rebuild my confidence and plus our team needed

to get going after we trailed (3533) at the end of the third period”. The talented 5’11” player went on to say they got off to a slow start but rallied early in the fourth period to seal the win. “Really basketball is a game of runs and we made the key last run”. The win sends the Lady Chargers to the state tournament for the first time in school’s history. It also marks the first time

In closing Williams added winning the Super Bowl over the Studewood Cobras was a great thing and he hopes they repeat as Champs in 2013.

The all around player had some big games and he also played both side of the ball and a true joy for the coaches to work with. In his spare time he plays in the band at B.C. Elmore and can strike a good beat with the drums as well as make some good sounds with trombone. The talented youngster admits he would like to play professional sports but also has a feel for electrical engineering as a way to make a living as an adult. “I don’t want to be just good I want to go beyond the call of duty and get better at whatever it is I’m involved with”. Considering his mother as his most driving force in life Jaiden says she has always pushed him to be the best. “She stays on me and makes sure I get my class work done and without a doubt it clear she is in charge. Arian Foster of the Houston Texans is Jaiden favorite NFL player and he says the guy just works hard and does what needs to help his team win. “You can count on him to play hard game after and he has gotten better and better as long as he had been in the NFL now that’s what who I want to be like”. We moved on to talk with Jaiden

Page 10

about school changes if they made his Principal at Key middle school. “To be honest with you our school is ran rather efficient and I don’t think I would change a thing”. Barack Obama becoming the first African American President is in Jaiden mind is a great thing. “He is the first and now blacks feel it can happen again and this also opens the door for women to hold the office as well”. On Sundays you’ll find the Anderson family over at Power House church and Jaiden credited the church with helping him build character.”Yes sir I’d say the church has been a positive influence in my life”. We couldn’t help but ask what’s it like to beat the Studewood Cobras for the Super bowl title. “It was awesome, because they beat us the first time and we beat them the second time and then again in the Super Bowl for the title.

a Clear Creek school has gone to state since Clear Creek went in 1994. Latham scored a bucket to give the Chargers a 49-41 lead with less than two minutes left in the contest. “We played a tough game last night (Bellaire) and we got off to a slow start today, but our team hung in there and now we are going to state”. Getting a team leading 10 rebounds and dishing out four assist in addition to her team leading 21 points Latham and her teammates are headed to Austin. Taking a 38-2 mark to the state tournament Clear Springs will face tough competition in defending state champion Ducanville but we feel they are ready for it!

CHARLIE WINSTON-THE STORY OF A GOOD MAN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Bastrop, Louisiana-Born Charles Ellis Winston, in the tiny village of Mer Rouge, Louisiana on August 23, 1947 to share cropper Francis Winston, more than 65 years later Charlie as we called him passed away quietly at Select Specialty Hospital in Houston on February 7, 2013. Walking nearly one mile to St. Matthews Elementary School, Charlie was an outstanding student with one of the best hand writing skills in the school. Fact is he wrote poetry and even sent songs to Music City Song Crafters but never had the funds to get them published. Chopping cotton in the summer and picking cotton in the fall, Charlie went about his way listening to a transistor radio and kept in touch with what was going on in the song writing industry. While at St. Matthews Charlie was baptized at Little Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church then under the leadership of the Rev. F. H. Richardson.

The family moved to Bastrop in October of 1965 and three years later Charlie graduated from Morehouse High School. For the first year or so he took on odds jobs and even went to Florida to pick fruit for nearly a year.

Winston, Eboni Winston-Watley and Charles (Maine) Winston Jr. adding to Cedric Herron giving them four loving children they cared for over the years. They also have three grand children Brianna Winston, D’Andria Winston and Kayla Watley.

In 1968 Charlie moved to Houston and thanks to Bobby Rhodes he was given a job at Allright Parking. There he worked alongside Bastrop natives Bobby and Carlton Rhodes for more than 33 years. Winning several awards and being voted the Attendant of the Year on five occasions.

Known for helping others throughout his life Charlie would allow family members to move in with him and Vilene until they could find work and get on their feet. The list goes on and on and it includes me and several others who all got our start in Houston because of Charlie’s generosity. If there ever was a guy who would give you the shirt off their back it was Charlie.

After his parking days Winston went to work for Securitas as a security guard and held that spot until his passing. Five years after moving to Houston, Charlie was visiting back home when his brother John (Preacher) Prather introduced him to the lovely Vilene Herron of Oak Ridge, Louisiana. The couple married in December of 1973 and three children were born, Deatrice (Dee Dee)

Finding ways to help keep his family going Charlie became one of the largest distributors of Dyna Glaze-Aero Shield auto polish and did detail jobs over the weekends. Building friendships over the years Charlie had two that stood out Thomas Walker and John. When diabetes began to get the

best of him it was those two who were always around him. Fact is when he entered the Methodist Hospital in Katy on January 10th Thomas and John were there. For two and one half weeks before being moved to Select Specialty Hospital where he spent his last week and

a half, John Dry was there with him all for the entire month. For those two guys were there night and day when Charlie needed them. The Winston family will be forever grateful to them for standing by a friend in need.

CHARLIE WINSTON-THE STORY OF A GOOD MAN The homegoing service was really special as we had people together for the first time in a much as 45 years. Thanks to our niece Carolyn Harris we were able to use New Mt. Olive MBC in Bastrop. It was wonderful to see my mother-in-law Ms. Thelma Atkins and long time friend Larry “Teddy” Perry in the crowd and offering words of encouragements. Sister Eunice Hawkins guided us through the program and Rev.

Bernard Jones read the Old and New Testament. Our first cousin Rev Freddie L. Smith did the prayer. Then to a surprise to some soul and blues Legend Ernie Johnson sang “Reaching Out” from his newly released gospel CD “This Is My Prayer”. It was a voice that Rev. Freddie Smith hadn’t heard for 45 years. Rose Hawkins-Robinson woke up the crowd with her renditions of “Walk around Heaven” and “I Won’t Complain”.

Then Carolyn Harris spoke on her uncle for a minute. We want to thank her for all she did in the preparations for the services. Up and coming pastor Rev. Johnny Green did another marvelous job of delivering a sermon that hit so close to home for those who loved Charlie. Green is the grandson of the late Eva Mae Green who just happened to have been the best friend of the late Francis Winston-Prather.

The Winston Family wants to thank all who helped in any kind of way during these difficult days and those who sent flowers and cards also. Frank Reese Jr. probably said it best when he said “Charlie was a good man”. In closing please allow me to add many thanks the Doctors and Nurses at the Methodist Hospital in Katy and to the doctors and nurses at Select Specialty Hospital in Houston. Furthermore we want to thank Frazier-Mitchell Funeral Home in Houston and Tennant Funeral Home in Bastrop for their professional services. Thanks to them we will be able to remember our loved one in a happy way.

GIRLS BASKETBALL REPORT-CLEAR SPRING WINS REGION III CLASS 5A TITLE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View In one of the most exciting girls’ basketball games we’ve seen in a while the Lady Chargers of Clear Springs rolled to a 55-44 win over Katy Seven Lakes. The win sends Clear Springs to a Friday showdown against Duncanville the defending state Class 5A champs at 3:00 PM at the Frank Erwin Center on the campus of the University of Texas. If they win that game they will face the winner of Cibolo Steele and Pflugerville for the title on Saturday night at 8:30 PM. Tailing 35 to 30 late in the third, Texas signee Brooke McCary got free for a trey to

close to within 35-33 at the period’s end. Then senior Courtnie Latham hit two treys and two free throws for an 8-0 run and just like that the Lady Chargers were on top for good. Brooke talked about how they got off to a slow start. “We have several girls who can score points so when we started slow we knew someone would step up and this time it was Courtnie”. The game started off slow as both teams finished with 16 points in the first period. The second period slowed all the way down as Clear Springs scored only eight points and Seven Lakes netted only six points. Keep in mind this was

the Lady Spartans first trip to the regional finals but senior Christen Inman had 25 points and 10 boards to lead her team while teammate Sydney Buchel added 12 points and nine boards in the loss. The third period is when Inman got going and they took a lead at 35-30. But the trey by Brooke and the two treys by Courtnie were just too much to overcome and the results were clear. The big 20 points to nine points edge in scoring clearly determined the outcome. In Class 4A Region III action Georgetown beat Lamar Consolidated 47-29 and then Tomball to win the title 41-30 and heads to Austin.

WHAT IS TRUTH? EASTER Please Get your Bibles and Follow this Study!

Is the Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God through Jesus Christ and his Apostles? We ask this question because, those of us that proclaim to be Christians, have been given a commandment by the words of the apostles of our Lord and Savour Jesus Christ; “1Thes 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” But first, bear with us as we be scripturally reminded of the order of things, if you will, “The Chain of Command” in the belief of GOD. Jesus DEFINES those that are and those that are NOT of God, please read; “John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.” God made it clear in His Word, that we MUST hear Jesus Christ His beloved son, and in verse 8, him ONLY; “Matt.17:4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. 8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.” John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. Jesus, the only one that God has commanded us to hear, tells us how we must believe on him; “John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.20 either pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

We must believe on Christ only in the manner he has stated, through his Apostle’s word, simply because he said so; being the head of every man; “1 Cor 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you. 3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”

Before Jesus ascended back into heaven, he left instructions with his apostles; “Matt 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” These instructions are for the one church that Jesus is building; “Matt 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Upon what rock; Christ for he is the Head of the church? “Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”(See Eph. 4:1416, 5:23-24) Jesus gave instructions to his Apostles, the ones that God gave him, on how to run HIS church, as they were guided by The Holy Ghost. No one else was given this authority. Remember he told them in verses 16 thru 18 of Matt. 28th chapter, that all power had been given him, by his Father in heaven and in earth. Jesus also told them in verses 19&20 to go and teach

all nations, and to baptize. He also made it clear by what names baptism was to be done and what things they were to teach to be observed, and those were the things Jesus had commanded them. There were also things that he had yet to tell his apostles, after ascending back into heaven. According to scripture this was to be done by The Holy Ghost “The Comforter”, The Spirit of Truth, please read; “John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.”

How then MUST we believe and hear Jesus? According to Jesus, it is NOT through some voice that comes to us, but rather through his APOSTLES words as THEY were guided by The Holy Ghost; the things that are WRITTEN. Please read; “John 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. 18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.“Eph 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, 2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: 3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, 4 Whereby, when ye read, ye

may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ) 5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;”. “I Jn 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”

We MUST remember the Church by Christ (see Eph.3:2021), the one he is building, and is the Head of, has been commanded not to follow traditions and commandments of men (see Matt. 15:8-10; Col.2:8-12; 1823; Titus1:13-14), but to follow the traditions and commandments of the apostles which is found in New Testament scripture (Acts 2:41-42; 1Cor.11:12; Philp.4:9; 2Thes.2:13-15; 3:6). It is true; Jesus and his Apostles did observed the Passover, before his death. Jesus was born under the Law (seeGal.4:4), and so was his Apostles. After his cruel death on the cross; the New Testament, which was in his blood (see1Cor.11:25), and after His resurrection, we find no scriptural evidence of him observing such. Neither do we find any instructions in the apostles’ doctrine and or word, for the Church that Christ is building, (Acts 2:47) to observe such. We believe that we are SAFE and COMPLETE ONLY in Christ Jesus, NOT in Moses, Elias or anyone else, note what the apostle Paul admonished the Church in Colosse to do; “Col 2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him

through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”

Remember Christ left the apostles and only them instructions, and or commands on the things that ARE to be OBSERVED (see Matt.28:16-20), by the Church that he is the head of ; “Col 1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the (1)preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; Definition: (1)preeminence4409 proteuo (prote-yoo’-o); from 4413; to be first, to hold the first place (in rank or influence): KJV— have the preeminence. We must also remember that Jesus Christ, the only begotten of God was and is perfect, and so is The Holy Spirit. They did not forget anything, so that even before the deaths of all the apostles, there were offices put in place for the overseeing of the Church by Christ, the one that he is building (see Matt.16:1618; Acts20:16-17, 26-31, Philp.1:1; 1Tim.3:1-12; 5:17; Titus1:5-11; Heb.13:17-18). They, as well as all those that professes to be Christians, must follow the traditions and commandments of the apostles as they were guided by the Holy Spirit, until The Chief Shepherd shall appear; “1 Pet 5:1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: 2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; (1)not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

WHAT IS TRUTH? EASTER 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away. 5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” “2Pet 3:1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:”

Definition: (1)not for filthy lucre-147 aischrokerdos (aheeskhrok-er-doce’); adverb from 146; sordidly: KJV— for filthy lucre’s sake, eagerness for base gain; 146 aischrokerdes-eager for base gain, greedy for money I hope we are clear on the order of things (chain of command) according to New Testament scripture. Now let us begin to answer the question; “Is the Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God through Jesus Christ and his Apostles?” Let us start with the two origins and there traditions. Now let us by scripture, prove Easter #1. Easter, which means Passover, was given by Moses from God to be OBSERVED by the children of Israel according to the law. It was never given to the Church by Christ, to be observed by Christians according to the Apostle’s doctrine and or word. Christ is the end of the Law (see John 1:17, Rom. 10:1-5). Notice the difference in the two Easters, the first one we can find scripture for the customs, traditions and sacrifices that was set in place. Again this was given to Moses by God, for the Israelites and for a specific reason. The preparation of the foods that they were to partake of was specified by God through Moses, Please read; Definition: Easter 3957 pascha (pas’-khah); of Aramaic origin [compare 6453]; the Passover (the meal, the day, the festival or the special sacrifices connected with it); 1) the paschal sacrifice (which was accustomed to be offered for the people’s deliverance of old from Egypt) 2) the paschal lamb, that is, the lamb the Israelites were accustomed to kill and eat on the 14th day of the month of Nisan (the first month of their year) in memory

of the day on which their fathers, preparing to depart from Egypt, were bidden by God to slay and eat a lamb, and to sprinkle their door posts with its blood, that the destroying angel, seeing the blood, might pass over their dwellings; the paschal feast, the feast of the Passover, extending from the 14th to the 20th day of the month Nisan: KJV— Easter, Passover.

Exod 12:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, 2 This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the (1)purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your

generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. 15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. Exod 12:47 All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. The first Easter “Passover” was authorized by God through Moses, to Israel and is of the truth. The instructions of observance and the dates were set, by God, and it was much earlier than A.D. 325. If Christians are under the Old Law “The Law of Moses”, which we are not according to the apostle’s doctrine, then all of the instructions of observance including the SACRIFICES and the dates given, must be followed circumspect, to be right “righteous” with God. There were no fables, nor Greek gods or goddesses, in it. We must remember Christians MUST follow Christ through his Apostles, not Moses. Christ is the end of the Law (see John 1:17, Rom. 10:1-5). Now let us by scripture disprove Easter #2. EASTER “Bill Petro, your friendly neighborhood historian www.billpetro.com/holidayhistory” “The most joyous of Christian festivals, and one of the first celebrated by the Christians, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox. The English word “Easter” corresponding to the German “Oster”, reveals the association of many Easter customs with those of the Teutonic tribes of central Europe. When Christianity reached these people it incorporated many of their heathen rites into the great Christian feast day. Easter month, corresponding to our April, was dedicated to Eostre, or Ostara, goddess of the spring. There was in common the time of spring and the triumph of life over death. The practice of eating eggs on Easter Sunday and giving them as gifts to friends and children probably arose because, in the earlier days of the church, eggs were forbidden

food during Lent (the 40 days before Easter) and were therefore always eaten on Easter Sunday. But the custom of coloring eggs goes back to the ancient Egyptians and Persians, who practiced this custom during their spring festival.

The Easter hare, or bunny, comes from antiquity as well. The hare is associated with the moon in the legends of ancient Egypt. It belongs to the night when it comes out to feed. It is born with its eyes opened and, like the moon, is “the open-eyed watcher of the skies”. Through the fact that the Egyptian word for hare, “un”, means also “open” and “period”, the hare became associated with the idea of periodicity, both lunar and human, and so became a symbol of fertility and of the renewal of life. As such, the hare became linked with the Easter, or paschal, eggs. In the U.S. the Easter rabbit is fabled to lay the eggs in the nests prepared for it or to hide them for the children to find. Although Easter was celebrated very early in the church, its date was not established until A.D. 325 when Constantine convened the council at Nicea, where it was decided that it should be observed on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox, to be fixed each year at Alexandria, then the center of astronomical science. The date is an approximation, and may vary. This means that its date may vary as much as 35 days!” Bill Petro, your friendly neighborhood historian www.billpetro.com/holidayhistory The second Easter has been disproved simply because, not one scripture was given for the instructions and dates of observance. Not one of the traditional observance given, matched any of the ones given by God. It is also stated that “Easter” is a Christian festival, ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE this is ERROR, which is FALSE DOCTRI E! We must remember “Christian” and “Christianity” are not just words, but are lifestyles! Using the apostle’s doctrine as a reference, as the Church of and by Christ has been commanded to do, Christian and Christianity are the two MOST misused words on earth. Christians MUST follow Christ through his Apostle’s word (John17:20-23). The truth is, the only Easter/ Passover authorized by God was given by

God through Moses, to the children of Israel “those under the Old Law”. The second one was given to man by man in A.D. 325 MUCH too late to be of God or Christ for that matter, and it has not one custom or tradition given by God, Christ or his Apostles; thereby it is not of the truth. It’s full of customs and traditions of men; men such as “heathens and Greek goddesses”. It also consists of Fables, which are lies; such as egg laying rabbits. Not only does rabbits lay eggs according to the lie that children are told, but they lay hard-boiled, colored ones. This lie is passed on from generation to generation. Children should be taught the truth because the scriptures teach that all liars will have their part, see Rev.21:8. We all may fall short and lie at some point in our lives, but to practice, to observe and to look forward to lying, makes us LIARS.

The scriptures teach that Jesus’ resurrection was early on the first day of the week, at the end of the Sabbath, OT on Easter Sunday or Christian Sabbath. “Mark 16:1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.” “Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.” (see Matt.28:1; Luke24:1) Christian Sabbath, according to scripture is a contradiction, in that according to the apostles’ doctrine the disciples, which were called Christians, came together on the first day of the week, “Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” “Acts 20:6 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days. 7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to (1)break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.”….Definition: (1)break bread 2806 klao-to break used in the New Testament of the breaking of bread (communion).

WHAT IS TRUTH? EASTER The (1)Sabbath on the other hand, ended the Passover, which was the seventh day of the week;

(Definition: (1)Sabbath 4521 sabbaton (sab’-bat-on); of Hebrew origin [7676]; the Sabbath (i.e. Shabbath), or day of weekly repose from secular avocations (also the observance or institution itself); 1) the seventh day of each week which was a sacred festival on which the Israelites were required to abstain from all work a) the institution of the sabbath, the law for keeping holy every seventh day of the week: KJV— sabbath.) All must believe the truth to be right with God, please read; “II Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had (1)pleasure in (2)unrighteousness.” Definitions: (1)pleasure-2106 eudokeo (yoo-dok-eh’-o); 1) it seems good to one, is one’s good pleasure a) to think it good, to choose, to determine, to decide b) to do willingly c) to be ready to, to prefer, to choose rather 2) to be well pleased with, to take pleasure in, to be favorably inclined toward one: KJV— think good, (be well) please (-d), be the good (have, take) pleasure, be willing. (2)in unrighteousness-93 adikia (ad-ee-kee’-ah); from 94; (legal) injustice (properly, the quality, by implication, the act); morally, wrongfulness (of character, life or act) 3) a deed violating law and justice, act of unrighteousness: KJV— iniquity, unjust, unrighteousness, wrong. Now let us set by New Testament Scriptures the foundation of belief. But first let us look at the only place the word “Easter” is found in the bible and it’s of Aramaic origin; it was used to define the feast of the Passover. According to Acts 12:1-4, these Jews were not of the body, the Church that Christ was building (Col.1:1820; Matt.16:17-18), because it

pleased them that king Herod stretched forth his hand to vex certain of the Church. The scriptures then go on to name those of the Church that King Herod vexed, killing James, the brother of John with the sword, and putting Peter in prison.

spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (KJV) Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: 11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. (KJV)

Acts 12:1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. 2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. 3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.) 4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people (KJV)

All must believe on Christ through the apostle’s word, and after baptism must continue steadfastly in the Apostle’s doctrine. This doctrine is found only in New Testament scriptures. Those Jews that believed according to Christ were his disciples and those that did not, were not of him, Please read;

We must remember All FLESH including GENERATIONS ends in Christ; we are neither Jew nor Greek in Christ, according to scripture we MUST become NEW SPIRITUAL creatures, Please read;

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (KJV)

Exod 12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. see also verses 36-41

2 Cor 5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.(KJV) Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; (KJV) Eph 4:20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the

Acts 14:1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren.(KJV) Gal 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. (KJV) We must remember according to scripture, Christians cannot be believers and hearers of the word only, but must suffer to be doers, of the Apostle’s Doctrine, Please read; Matt.16:24: Acts 14:22 22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we MUST through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. (See also; John12:25-26; Rom.8:1618; 1Thes.3:1-8; 2Tim.2:11-12;

3:12; 1Pet.4:1-2&18)

Phil 1:29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.(KJV) James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (KJV) James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (KJV) The Apostle’s Doctrine as they were guided by The Holy Spirit, instruct those of Christ, in how they are to remember him, please read. 1 Cor 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The (1)bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? 17 For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. (KJV) 1 Cor 11:23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took (1)bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.(KJV) Definition: (1)bread-740 artos (ar’-tos); from 142; bread (as raised) or a loaf: KJV— (shew-) bread, loaf. We have been looking but, we have not been able to find in the Apostle’s word, Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday or even Easter Sunday, which again would be a CONTRADICTION

and CONFUSION(1 Cor 14:33), thereby making them traditions of men. According to scripture, true followers of Christ “Christians” cannot, MUST not, be followers of traditions and customs, not authorized by Christ through his Apostles. Because if we are, then there is a command given by the apostles, for such ones, please read; II Th 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. 4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you. 5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 6 ow we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (1)ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that (2)walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. Definitions: (1)ye withdraw yourselves-4724 stello (stel’lo); probably strengthened from the base of 2476; properly, to set fast (“stall”), i.e. (figuratively) to repress (reflexively, abstain from associating with): KJV— avoid, withdrawself. (2)walketh 4043 peripateo-to walk: b) Hebrew for, to live 1) to regulate one’s life 2) to conduct oneself 3) to pass one’s life We were able to find Easter “Passover”, not as the Church observing it, but the Jews, before being converted to Christ. There is no need for Jews or anyone else to observe Easter/Passover any more. Remember Christ is the end of the Law and there is neither Jew nor Greek in Christ Jesus (see John 1:17, Rom.10:1-5). We must not frustrate the Grace of God, by observing the things of the law (seeGal.2:14-21, 3:1-5). We are all one in Christ, if all hear and obey the law of God’s only begotten Son (seeJames1:22, Rom.3:27, Gal.6:2), to be right with Him according to scriptures, please read. John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.(KJV) Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

WHAT IS TRUTH? EASTER 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.(KJV)

the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. 21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.(KJV)

1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and (1)one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Definition: (1)one mediator-3316 mesites (mesee’-tace);from 3319; a gobetween, i.e. (simply) an internunciator, or (by implication) a reconciler (intercessor): KJV— mediator.1) one who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship, or to form a compact, or for ratifying a covenant 2) a medium of communication, a arbitrator

Those that has been baptized into the one Body which is the one Church by the one Lord Jesus Christ, must know and believe according to scripture, there is only one Holy Father and He is not on earth John 17:11-13. The belief and obedience of Eph 4:4-5 would make all have the one Spirit of the one Faith striving to be followers of Christ “Christians”, after the one Baptism. Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,(KJV) Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 20 And, having made peace through

John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.(KJV)

We hope it is scripturally clear on the One Mediator between God and man. There is no one else that man can appeal to as a medium of communication, or to make or restore peace and friendship, but Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ, Christ. If there is a mediator, between man and Christ, then that would be two mediators between God and man. According to God, Christ and his Apostles, there is only ONE MEDIATOR. If anything else is taught, it is not of the truth and is false Doctrine! Now to answer the question that was asked at the start of this study. “Is The Observance of Easter, by the Church or anyone else, authorized by God (the one and only Holy Father which is

www.neutralsister.com

E-mail Address: bibletruth1@sbcglobal.net Fax #: (281) 987-9703 in heaven, through Jesus Christ), the one and only mediator between God and man and His Apostles?” The SCRIPTURAL answer is, ABSOLUTELY OT! If anything else is taught, it is not of the truth and is false Doctrine! Dear reader, remember the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to THE WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, which is false doctrine, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the PREPONDERANCE OF SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of SCRIPTURE. Again we believe this allows SCRIPTURE to INTERPRET SCRIPTURE, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Thanks again for

your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; GRACE and SALVATION; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN, and away from HELL! 2 Cor 13:5 (1)Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be (2)reprobates? 6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.(KJV) Definitions: (1)Examine yourselves-3985 peirazo (pi-rad’zo); from 3984; to test (objectively), i.e. endeavor, scrutinize, discipline: KJV— assay, examine, go about, prove. (2)reprobates-96 adokimos (ad-ok’-eemos); unapproved, i.e.

rejected; by implication, worthless (literally or morally): KJV— castaway, reprobate. 2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. Tip #7 Everyone thinks that only in the New Year, that its out with the old and in with the new or that spring cleaning can only be done in the “spring time”. One should always take inventory of things in their life, of what’s working and what’s not and at that point start cleaning house. Spring cleaning can start with things that are familiar such as cleaning out closets, drawers, your car etc. Have a garage sale with a group of friends; donate old clothes to friends in need and organizations that assist people. Find creative ways to store things and recommit to being organized.

When it comes to mental “spring cleaning”, that can be something that often goes cluttered year after year. For example, often relationships can be the most challenging task to de-clutter. athletes. But sadly few did. I have thought about this issue for years bit never sat down at my computer to type a column about it. This time I had to because it is painful and an outright shame of all of us. These young ladies work hard, very hard to play sports. They are not only competing against each other but sadly a mindset that should be out of our minds years

ago. There seems to a dead idea that still hangs on that women should not play sports. Yes I know that sounds stupid to print this but yes there are many of us walking around muttering this idiotic thought. Some of us won’t support young women playing sports even if we are related to them. I watched talented athletic young ladies play their hearts out to have the chance to advance to Austin Texas to play for a state championship. Many have worked for this moment for years. They just want the support of family and close friends to enjoy this special moment. I sat there in the arena and watched the joy of League City Clear Springs celebrating their 2013 Region III basketball title;

they won it and had a blast doing so. It’s just an outright shame that they did it with so few fans in the arena. Katy Seven Lakes High School, Clear Springs’ opponent, wasn’t any better regarding fan attendance. I understand that we all have a ton of things to do in 48 hour weekend. Families are loaded with children activities, errands and sometimes (we know ‘sometimes’ always means ‘most times’) activities that just wears everyone out and then Sunday is upon us and it’s time for the 40 hour grind beginning Monday all over again. I get that. But can’t we squeeze in a couple of hours for these young ladies; our daughters, nieces, cousins and friends? Don’t we understand that those little girls sitting in

the stands with those big eyes are watching those young ladies on the court and thinking to themselves that soon very soon when they reach their teenage years they too can play basketball? Can we just think of them sometime? No I guess not, because the attendance will continue to be small and we will always question as to why. We have people wasting gas and attempting to crash phony alleged stars and ‘their’ parties just to gossip about who was there at the event, what they were wearing and more importantly who they were seen with. The more times change, the more things never seem to change. That’s just the way I see it!

TSU WOMEN AND MEN ARE ON TOP OF THE SWAC By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View As the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season comes to a close, the Lady Tigers of Texas Southern University are right at the top. Under the leader ship of first year coach Cynthia CooperDyke the Lady Tigers are rolling right along. It is clearly a case of good quality coaching

because they are basically the same team from a year ago. Kayla West leads the team and these women have come from behind to win games all season long. Plus when they face a weaker team, they put them away early Cooper a four-time WNBA Champ knows the game very well and has a way of getting the best out of her players. This is clearly the best thing that happened to the Lady Tigers

program in many years. On the other side of the ledger the Men’s program is doing the same thing under first year coach Mike Davis and pretty much with the same team. However due to NCAA violations the Tigers will not be able the go to the tournament, but they will certainly be back next season and look for great things from Coach Davis and his staff.
