Behind The Wheel With THE KING (Arthur Prayther)
HYUNDAI VELOSTER TURBO MT In the world of Roadster of all sizes and shapes the all new Hyundai Veloster Turbo is making a name for itself. The Korean built little roadster has some very hard lines and without a doubt catches the average person by storm. A racecar like look up front with the lower crawl and the smooth side and the neatly rear slant. Those dual exhaust tips in the center and the rear wheels at all the way to the back giving an aggressive look to the overall view of the vehicle. This three door coupe with a hatch back is new to say the least. Keep in mind we are talking about a third door on the right side giving you access to the rear seating area. The vehi-
cle surprisingly had plenty of trunk space. The front seat leg room was another pleasant surprise for us as we began out week long test drive. Our test vehicle was the Turbo version with a powerful 1.6 liter dual continuously variable valve timing gasoline direct injection four cylinder engine with twinscroll intercooled turbo charger. This baby cranks out 201 horses along with 195 pound per foot of torque and you throw in a six speed manual transmission and we are ready to roll to say the least. The power rolls to the pavement on 18 inch alloy wheel circulated by P 215/40R 18 inch performance tires. The shifter
The 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo MT
has eco-shift technology so you know when it’s time to shift to the next gear up or down depending on your speed. Let me say once you are inside the new Veloster you know it’s time to get on down the road. The racecar like interior layout just screams out at you. Medal trimmed pedals and fancy shifter knob that just spells out race car to you. Let me assure you we had some jack rabbit starts in this baby. But the most important thing is people were looking at it everywhere we went. Even though you can have fun taking off fast the new Veloster still managed 26 miles per gallon in the city and 38 on the highway and average of 3.3 gallons of fuel per 100 miles. Both the engine and transmission are built in Korea and the final assembly point is Ulsan, Korea and so is 81% of this vehicle’s part. I’d say it’s certainly safe to call this baby an import with only 1% of its part
from the US or Canada. Warranties for this new Hyundai is five-year/60,000 mile new vehicle warrant and tenyear/100,000 mile power train warranty with seven-year/unlimited miles anti-perforation warrant with five year/unlimited Roadside Assistance. It’s safe to say Hyundai really backs this baby with good quality numbers. Safety technology is advanced for the new Veloster with Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control and four-wheel disc anti-locking brakes. Yes it does have front side impact and side curtain airbags and tire pressure monitoring system also. While strolling along you can listen to your favorite sound on a Dimension Premium Audio system and external amp with subwoofer AM/FM/

Sirius XM/CD/MP3 with eight speakers. Of course the Satellite radio is 90-day free trial Hyundai blue link telematics system allows the driver to stay connected by web or smart phone app’ subscription required. A seven inch multimedia touch screen and electroluminescent gauge cluster and trip computer makes you think you are driving a space vehicle. It is the opinion of this writer this vehicle is a perfect blend of fuel economy, stylist design and highly rated technology. In closing please allow me to add the new Veloster also has leather sealing surfaces and a leather wrapped steering wheel with controls for audio and climate. Let us not forget it is wired by bluetooth and hands free phone system!

ACURA RDX AWD TECH IS SMOOTH SAILING By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The 2013 Acura RDX is more American these days and the record clearly showed that to be a fact. To start with the final assembly point is East Liberty Ohio with the engine and transmission both built right here in the USA. The 273 horse powered 3.5 Liter SOHC 24-valve IVETC VCM II V6 engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential sports-shift. It reportedly gets 100 miles on every 4.5 gallons of fuel. That computes to 19 MPH in the city and 27 on the highway and under normal driving you would be expected to spend roughly $2600 on fuel each year. Only 15% of the Acura parts come from Japan with more than 65% coming from US/Canadian parts suppli-
ers. This makes the vehicle nearly All-American. At the time of our test run the vehicle had not been rated by the NHTSA so we will get those numbers for you later.
Handling is special for the Acura RDX due to the AWD with intelligent control and four-wheel disc brakes makes stopping just as much fun as starting. Macpherson Struts front suspension and rear multi-link suspension and electric power assisted rack and pinion steering simply adds to the smooth operation. When it comes to safety the new RDX is built with your safety in mind. Driver and front passenger dual stage airbags and driver and front passenger side air bates with side curtains bags with rollover sensors. A vehicle stability assist and anti-lock brakes
The 2013 Acura RDX AWD Tech
system with electronic brake distribution and brake assist adds to the stopping safety even from high rates of speed. Daytime running lamps and latch system for child seats are just a couple more safety features on the new Acura RDX AWD. Tire monitoring system and three-point seat belts plus side impact door beams help to round out the safety features. Once you are inside you are greeted to a normal Acura interior commonly known for easy to reach knobs and gauges that are easy to read. Leather trimmed sports seats and XM satellite radio/MP3/Auxiliary input jacks with USB audio interface with push button ignition. A driver 10-way memory and four-way front passenger seat and even heated front seats. A home link system and Bluetooth hands free link system plus steering wheelmounted controls combined with power windows and door locks including front auto up/down windows.
safety outlook of this new Acura.
Warranties include six year/70,000 mile power train warranty with four year/50,000 mile limited vehicle warranty, plus a full tank of gas. The vehicle comes with three-months free XM radio and real time traffic and weather service. By the way tech package include the Acura navigation system with voice recognition and multi-view rear camera along with Acura-link communication system with real-time traffic and
weather in selected markets.
The new Acura ELS Surround Sound System with 10 speakers and AM/FM/DVD/CD/DTC with Dolby Pro Logic II. Complete with Hard disk drive GPS-linked Dual zone auto climate control with air filtration system, power tail gate, Xenon HID headlights and Fog lights as well. In closing please allow me to add the new Acura RDX came in at just over $40,00 but after our week long test we found it to be worth every cent of it!

KING-SIZE MOVERS AND SHAKERS: KENNETH AND KELLY MCCAIN By Dr. Victor Keys A King-Size View Our King-Size Movers and Shakers for the month of October are Kenneth and Kelly McCain. They are proprietors of The Roots-Houston Hair Salon located at 6310 Richmond Avenue, in Houston, TX. Their latest endeavor is a salon that is staffed with trained & skilled professionals providing high quality services to their old and new clients. Kenneth is the creative, resourceful side, Kelly has her beauty license, so both have been active in building other businesses that were ultimately sold to people interested in that specific type of business. They create marketable businesses that gain the attention of individuals who prefer not to start from scratch. Now they are doing that very same thing, but for themselves as Sideline Investment Projects. They are venturing into Brand Management with their The BottomLine Products and
Services which will be launched early next year. They previously owned a successful Swimming Pool Maintenance Company that served neighborhoods throughout the Houston and surrounding areas, for seven years. Kenneth also opened a home improvement company that provided low cost services for victims of our last 4 major Hurricanes. Both of which were sold. Kenneth and Kelly are also hands-on parents and their children are always number one. They teach their kids, the basics of money management, principles of business, and the benefits of hard work. Their 16 year-old son Kenneth Jr. (known as Fatboy) was featured 3 years ago while an 8th grader at Alief Middle School. He was playing football at the time, but today, has decided to put all focus and effort into playing basketball. Kenneth Sr. and Kenneth Jr. along with Kenneth Jr.’s younger brothers DeAndre (14-known as Dre) & Kenneth III (12-known
as 3rd), have been up on countless Saturday early mornings, on their way to basketball practice with the legendary coach John Lucas. Some mornings, their daughter Kiana (10-known as
Pookat) is made to go as well. All in all, when you look at them you just know they are all very close; they love each other, as well as themselves. They also carry that same love and passion
into business; they employ only professionals who go that extra mile to be the best and make The Roots-Houston synonymous with service and style.

Out and About with John Engel HOUSTON NATIONAL CEMETERY The Houston National Cemetery (HNC), often called the Veteran’s Cemetery, is located just south of Beltway 8 and Veterans Memorial Drive. It is about 15 miles from downtown Houston. Although I generally hate cemeteries, I truly enjoy the serenity of these sacred grounds. The Houston Veterans Administration Cemetery was dedicated Dec. 7, 1965. It was the only government cemetery constructed in the United States during the 1960s. The present-day Houston National Cemetery was the largest of its kind at the time of construction. Designed entirely by VA staff, it was also the only new VA cemetery not located on the grounds of a VA hospital. Prior to Houston’s opening, the last VA cemetery established was at Eagle Point VA Medical Center, Ore., in 1952. The largest VA cemeteries at the time were in Los Angeles at 114.47 acres, and Leavenworth, Kan., at 113.15 acres. At 419.2 acres, the Houston facility was slightly smaller than the 450 acres or so of Arlington National Cemetery, to which it was compared. Houston became a national cemetery in 1973 after the passage of the National Cemetery Act and is the second largest National cemetery in the continental United States. At the approximate center of the cemetery is the Hemicycle. It is largest memorial and the most visible structure on the landscape. It is the only NCA-managed hemicycle memorial and is one of only three known hemicycles located in national cemeteries. The others are located at Arlington National Cemetery, Va., operated by the U.S. Army, and at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in the Philippines, operated by the American Battle Monuments Commission. At the keystone, or center, of the hemicycle are the chapel, carillon and speaker’s stand. David Parsons, a professor of art at Rice University, sculpted a 20’ x 6’ bas relief of three interlocking forms—a fallen soldier supported by two comrades. The sculpture, made of crushed quartz, was installed at the chapel entrance in 1965. The 75-foot tower, 305-bell, Schulmerich “Americana” carillon was dedicated May 30, 1970. The
Hemicycle is a meeting place for memorial events. There are several stone stairwells that lead to the top floor for a spectacular view of the grounds and lakes. Another unique feature of the HNC is that it is a protected wetland. It is designed and maintained to provide green space to the creatures that call it home. It is designed to abate floods and enhance water quality. The natural grasses and wildflowers change colors and textures throughout the year and provide a living landscape for visitors to enjoy. Interment services are performed at one of three Commitment Service Shelters. Remains are transported there from the funeral home or other service provider and the ceremony is held at a time scheduled by the Cemetery. The actual internment is done at a later time and family members are not allowed to be present and ceremonies are not permitted. Originally, HNC placed granite markers at each grave with the name of the deceased, their dated of birth and death, branch of service and rank. As the budget permits, these markers are being replaced with above ground tombstones. The same information is on the stones and they make a very dramatic and inspiring site. If you have a loved one at Houston National Cemetery, you can easily locate them at the grave locater just inside the entrance. Maps are provided and it is fairly easy to locate the grave site. Notable persons buried at HNC include: First Lieutenant Raymond L. Knight, (World War II), U.S.
Staff Sergeant Marcario Garcia, (World War II), U.S. Army, Company B, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. Grosshau, Germany, Nov. 27, 1944. (Note: I met SSG Garcia shortly before his death and have an autographed copy of his book, The Last Medal of Honor.) Captain James H. Fields, (World War II), U.S. Army, 10th Armored Infantry, 4th Armored Division. Near Rechicourt, France, Sept. 27, 1944. First Sergeant David H. McNerney, (Vietnam), U.S. Army, Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry, 4th Infantry Division. Polei Doc, Republic of Vietnam, March 22, 1967. Perhaps the most renowned veteran buried in the cemetery is the late Honorable Albert Thomas, United States Congressman from Texas. Congressman Thomas served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War I, and served almost 30 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was instrumental in getting this cemetery established by Congress. "Congressman Albert," as his many friends knew him, died in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 15, 1966, and was buried in the mall area of the Houston National Cemetery, on Feb. 18, 1966. On my Patriot Guard rides we often provide flag lines at funerals at HNC. As time permits, I walk around the lakes and absorb the tranquility of the grounds. Sometimes I will stop at a stone and read the name of the deceased. It gives me great peace to know that a man or woman that served our nation can rest in this beautiful ground. In fact, I have already notified my family that I wish to be buried here when the time comes.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THANKSGIVING BY CHRIST Thanksgiving: There are many in the religious world today having FUN; having HOLIDAY feasts, parties, drinks, just having a merry good time (REVELLI G). We are sure some if not most would ask, what’s wrong with that? There is nothing wrong with it according to our FLESH, actually it is FU ! But according to Christ and his apostles, to our SPIRIT it is a vexation, to our SOUL it is damnation John12:24-26, because the FLESH cannot please GOD. The CARNAL MIND is hatred against GOD and is not SUBJECT to the LAW of GOD. Thereby, not having the Spirit of Christ (antichrist), please read; Rom.8:1-10; Gal.5:16-25; Phil.3:16-20; Titus3:8-11. For even when the, “Holiday” season starts, what is truly thought of the most? Is it Christ or is it the time off, the fleshly family gatherings, the glutinous foods and drinks, the carnal games, the vain carnal trees and decorations, and or the materialistic “gifts”? According to scripture our thoughts cannot be of Christ, when the things that we are observing and or doing, CANNOT be found in HIS instructions to HIS BODY, the Church (Matt.17:1-8; Matt.28:18-20; John17:16-23; 2Cor.1:12-14; Eph.3:1-7; 2Pet.3:1-2; 1John4:56). But rather are the things that goes against Christ, thereby DENYING HIM and his FATHER, (ANTICHRIST) (Isa.29:11-14; Matt.15:7-9; Mark. 7:6-9; Luke 6:43-49; 1John2:15-26; 2John1:7-13). Let your conversation be ONLY about the ONE thing that is NEEDFUL; Christ, the scriptures, and soul salvation while at these gatherings, and see how popular you will be (Philp.1:27; 1Tim.4:11 -16; 1Pet.1:13-19; 2Pet.3:8-12). Take the carnal, fleshly wants of man out of the equation; there would be no observance of these CARNAL days that Christ has not authorized, to those that are his. The proof is in the pudding; our GOD is truly our BELLY because it seems as though nothing in this WORLD, including the Religious World, can be observed without carnal foods, and or our carnal/ fleshly wants. “Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. 40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” “Phil 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. 18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: 19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who (1)mind earthly things.) 20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:” Definition: (1)MI D EARTHLY THINGS -from 5424; to exercise the mind, i.e. entertain; by implication, to be (mentally) disposed; intensively, to interest oneself in (with concern or obedience): KJV— set the affection on, (be like-, + be of one, + be of the same, + let this) mind (-ed), regard, savour, think. Please listen to what Jesus told the multitude; “John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.” For those that were to be invited to a feast, Jesus Christ left instructions. Now this is also an example of TRUE GIFT giving, and Christians MUST be of the TRUTH, John17:16-17. Note the definition of GIFT (g¹ft) n. 1. Something that is bestowed voluntarily and WITHOUT (1) compensation. - 1. To offset; counterbalance. 2. To make satisfactory payment or reparation to; recompense or reimburse. “Luke 14:12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot (2)recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.”
Definitions: (2) for they cannot recompence thee-468 antapodoma-the thing paid back, requital; 467 antapodidomi (antap-od-ee’-do-mee): KJV— recompense, render, repay. If these instructions were followed, the so-called Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter FEASTS would not exist with those professing Christ. Christians are to give to the needy always, not on some day put in place by man, the creature, please read: (Matt.5:3848; Luke 6:27-36; Acts20:29-35; Rom.12:9-21; Gal.2:9-10; 6:910; Eph.4:28; Phil.2:1-8. Then, we would be following the instructions of God, the Creator, through Christ, and his apostles. But many choose NOT to follow these and many other instructions left by Christ. Why is this; is it because of the lack of knowledge or just being rebellious, because of what we like, (our BELLIES)? “Matt 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” “Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.” Luke 16:13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. 14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. Now here is a day that is among many others, that is Highly Esteemed among MEN, and has been set up by man for his BELLY, the things that he LIKES. Note the origin of this day; “The Thanksgiving holiday has its origin in the Puritan Thanksgivings of colonial New England. Both the Pilgrims of Plymouth and the Boston Puritans were strict Calvinist Protestants.” “Cal·vin·ism) n. The religious doctrines of John Calvin, emphasizing the omnipotence of God and the salvation of the elect by God’s
grace alone.” Please check the complete history of this tradition, and you will find it NOT being at all CHRIST LIKE. As we have read, this tradition came MUCH too late to be of Christ or his apostles. Here again is the problem; it follows not the instruction given by Christ (Luke14:12-14; Rom.12:16). There is no need for man to set up such, not for a Christian because; the instructions for giving thanks has already been set by THE WORD, and it is Perfect and Complete. The CREATOR needs NO help from the CREATURE (Rom.1:25). The creature MUST OBEY and follow the instructions already given, IF we are to be followers of CHRIST through his apostles, (Christians). Christians must abound in thanksgiving 24/7, and give thanks when ever we eat, according to the apostles’ word, not on some day given by man. Christianity is not SEASONAL, but a 24/7 LIFESTYLE, and according to scripture ALL THI GS MUST be done with thanksgiving. The statement, “salvation of the elect by God’s grace alone,” is OT according to scripture; therefore it is ERROR and is dangerous! According to scripture, we are saved by grace, but NOT grace ALONE. We are saved by many things, grace being one, baptism and the obedience of the WORD being another, which is another lesson, but for now please read (James1:21-27; 1Pet.3:20-22). As we start this study please get your Bible, and pay close attention to all scriptures and all definitions. The study: Thanksgiving by Christ through his apostles to His body, the church; Thanksgiving-2169 eucharistia (yoo-khar-is-tee’-ah);- from 2170; gratitude; actively, grateful language (to God, as an act of worship): KJV— thankfulness, (giving of) thanks (-giving). 2 Cor 4:13 We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak; 14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and
eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.(KJV) 2 Cor 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: 9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. 10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;) 11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God; 13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your (1)liberal (2)distribution unto them, and unto all men; 14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. 15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.(KJV) Definitions: (1)liberal-572 haplotes (hap-lot’-ace); from 573; singleness, i.e. (subjectively) sincerity (without dissimulation or self-seeking), or (objectively) generosity (copious bestowal): KJV— bountifulness, liberal (-ity), simplicity, singleness. (2)distribution-2842 koinonia (koy-nohn-ee’-ah); from 2844; partnership, i.e. (literally) participation, or (social) intercourse, or (pecuniary) benefaction: KJV— (to) communicate (-ation), communion, (contri-) distribution, fellowship. Phil 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your (1)moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

WHAT IS TRUTH? THANKSGIVING BY CHRIST 9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.(KJV) Definition: (1)moderation-1933 epieikes (ep-ee-i-kace’);from 1909 and 1503; appropriate, i.e. (by implication) mild: KJV— gentle, moderation, patient. Col 2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man (1)spoil you through (2)philosophy and vain deceit, after the (3)tradition of men, after the (4)rudiments of the (5)world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:(KJV) Definitions: (1)spoil you through -4812 sulagogeo- to carry off booty: a) to carry one off as a captive (and slave) b) to lead away from the truth and subject to one’s sway. We MUST believe on Christ through the words of the Apostles, according to Christ himself John17:20-21, and continue steadfast in the apostles’ doctrine as those before us (Acts 1:1-4; Acts2:41-42), this is SAFE. Why must we always do the things to please the flesh rather than God? HIS Son did NOT: “1 Pet 4:1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. 3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:” Christians MUST deny themselves as CHRIST did, and follow Him; hating our lives here (John 12:24-26), by crucifying and mortifying the flesh, according to God through Christ and his apostles. There be few that are willing to SUFFER and FOLLOW THE WORD, which is Christ, (the narrow way), but there are many that choose to follow traditions and commandments of men, (the broad way), rather then Christ and his apostles, please read; Matt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. 15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? “Mark 8:33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou (1)savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. 34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come
after me, let him (2)deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”(see also Matt.16:23-25; Luke9:22-23; Titus 2:12-15 ) Definitions: (1)savourest not5426 phroneo (fron-eh’-o); from 5424; to exercise the mind, to interest oneself in (with concern or obedience): KJV— set the affection on, (be like-, + be of one, + be of the same, mind (ed), regard, savour, think. (2)Deny himself-533 aparneomai (ap-ar-neh’-om-ahee); from 575 and 720; to deny utterly, i.e. disown, abstain: KJV— deny.a) to affirm that one has no acquaintance or connection with someone b) to forget oneself, lose sight of oneself and one’s own interests Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the (1)flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit (2)do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.(KJV) Definitions: (1)Flesh-4561 sarx (sarx); flesh i.e. or (by extension) the body (as opposed to the soul [or spirit], or as the symbol of what is external, or (by implication) human nature (with its frailties [physically or morally] and passions), or (specifically) a human being (as such): KJV— carnal (-ly, + -ly minded), flesh ([-ly]). (2)Do mortify-2289 thanatoo (than-ato’-o); from 2288 to kill (literally or figuratively): KJV— become dead, (cause to be) put to death, kill, mortify. Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ’s have (1)crucified the flesh with the affections and
lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (see also Gal 6:14; Col 3:5-10) Definition:(1)Crucified the flesh-4717 stauroo-b) metaphorically, to crucify the flesh, destroy its power utterly (the nature of the figure implying that the destruction is attended with intense pain) The scriptures teach that among many works of the flesh, REVELLING is one of them, and that those participating in it or any such like, shall not inherit the kingdom of God. As we start this study, please as always, pay close attention to all scriptures and all definitions of words. We believe this will allow a better understanding of why TRUE Christians, i.e. followers of Christ through His apostles, cannot and must not Party; thereby making them right, righteous with God. According to scripture, Christians MUST not live by the flesh anymore. Christians MUST put on Christ in baptism and KEEP him on, thereby putting on the new man, and that NEW
man MUST be a SPIRITUAL one (Rom.8:5-9; Gal.3:27). For when we choose to take Christ OFF for our Belly’s sake (fleshly wants); we then become that old fleshly man, and we SIN. We all have kinsmen in the flesh, but Christians MUST remember who their family truly is. The SPIRITUAL family reunion is set on each Lord’s Day (Acts20:1-7), and it must be attended (Heb.10:25). Jesus said….. “Who is my mother or my brethren, (Matt.12:47-50 & Mark3:32-35)?” If we are to be of Christ’s family, we MUST follow HIM. For all have not obeyed the gospel; Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.Rom 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (See also James1:21-25) Matt 12:46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.(KJV) Christians are not to have any fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but, rather reprove them (2Cor.6:14-18; 7:1-3; Eph.5:6-11). Christians can’t have it our way, we must do it Christ’s way, because we are NOT our own, we have been bought with a price (1Cor.6:20; 7:23). Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. (see also Rom 13:11-13) 1 Cor 10: 20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and
not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. 21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils. 22 Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he? (KJV) Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.(see also Gal 5:25) (KJV) Eph 4:17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: 19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But ye have not so learned Christ; 21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (see also Eph 4:1-3) Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. 8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: 9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) 10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Contrary to what is being taught in the religious world today, EARTH is a Christians’ WORK place (Philip2:5-16), there is no time for FUN (horseplay), Christians MUST redeem the time (Eph.5:14-17). Christianity
is a SERIOUS LIFESTYLE, and there is nothing more serious than it; in that it is about either having eternal life in HEAVEN, or eternal death and torment in HELL (Matt. 12:34-37; Mark9:43-48; Luke16:19-25; Heb.10:24-31). If Christ and those before us SUFFERED not to participate in such things, why do “Christians” today think they have the right not to suffer? True Christians today must SUFFER also, we MUST suffer to be obedient and follow those before us, so that we can cease from sin (Philip.1:29; Heb.5:89; 1 Pet 4:1-4). Here are some more scriptural instructions given for The Christian Lifestyle, TRUE Christians MUST focus and meditate on these and such like, to be right (righteous) with God, through Christ and his apostles. Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?(see also Matt.7:15-27) John 12:25 (1)He that loveth his life shall lose it; and (2)he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.(KJV) Definitions:(1)He that loveth5368 phileo (fil-eh’-o); from 5384; to be a friend to (fond of [an individual or an object]), i.e. have affection for (denoting personal attachment, as a matter of sentiment or feeling; a) to approve of b) to like c) to sanction 3) to be fond of doing; to kiss (as a mark of tenderness): KJV— kiss, love. (2)he that hateth-3404 miseo (mis-eh’o);from a primary misos (hatred); to detest (especially to persecute); by extension, to love less: KJV— hate (-ful). Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give (4)place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. 20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.(KJV) Definitions: (1)Mind not high things-5426 phroneo (fron-eh’o); from 5424; to exercise the mind, to be (mentally) disposed; intensively, to interest oneself in (with concern or obedience): KJV— set the affection on, (be) care (-ful), (be like-, + be of one, + be of the same, + let this) mind (-ed), regard, savour, think. (See also Eph.3:1-5) Phil 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; 28 And in nothing terri-
fied by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;(KJV) Phil 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. 17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. (see also Col 1:9-12; 1Thes 2:11-12; 1Tim 6:17-19) Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; James 1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. TRUE Christians, i.e. followers of God, through Christ and his apostles, do not have any example of those before us having EARTHLY, CARNAL, SECULAR fun, joys, pleasures, parties, and revellings or any such things. But rather, we have been warned against such. Note the examples of the joys and pleasures of Christians before us; they are NOT EARTHLY, CARNAL, SECULAR ones, thereby following the instructions of JESUS CHRIST THE SAVOUR, (John 12:24-26). These are the same ones TRUE Christians must follow, to be right “righteous” with GOD through Christ and his apostles: Acts 20:22 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 23 Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. (see also Rom 5:10-11; Rom 14:17-18; Rom 15:13; Rom 15:32-33) 2 Cor 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.(see also Eph 1:5; Phil 1:3-6; Phil 1:25) Phil 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.(see also1Thes 1:67; 2:19-20; 2Tim 1:4; Phil 4:14; Phile 1:20; Heb 12:2-3 )

WHAT IS TRUTH? THANKSGIVING BY CHRIST James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (see also James 5:7-8) 1 Pet 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.(KJV) II Jn 1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.(KJV) 3 Jn 1:1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.(KJV) We believe that there are some that perceive, understand and even believe these truths; but because of different reasons, do not choose to accept them. We believe that weakness maybe one reason. We also believe that
such ones might ask these questions: “How can I tell my wife, husband, children, or friends?” “How can I tell my father, mother, or kindred, that these are truths?” The question should be: “How can a Christian, i.e. follower of Christ, not tell the truth to all (the truth being the WORD)”, John17:16-17? Followers of Christ through his apostles MUST tell the TRUTH at all times, for no lie is of the truth, and there is no lie in Christ, James 3:14; 1John 1:510 and 2:21-29. Christians must be strong in the faith, not in a faith, and have been instructed to quit like men. “1 Cor 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, (1)quit you like men, be strong.” Warning, for being timid, “fearful”; cause damnation. “Rev 21:8 But the (2)fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Definitions: (1)quit you like men-407 andrizomai (an-drid’zom-ahee);middle voice from 435; to act manly, 2) to show oneself a man, be brave: KJV— quit like men. (2)fearful 1169 deilos-timid, fearful We believe that pride may be another reason for the refusal of the truth, in that we don’t like admitting that we have been wrong. Jesus said that pride, among other things is evil, and defileth the man, see Mark 7:20-23; Mark 9:43-48. This is true because first, and most of

all Jesus said it. Secondly, when it hinders one from saving his own soul and the souls of others, by not admitting the truth by the word, can anything be more evil? Remember, among other things the WORD is profitable for correction: 2 Tim 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. We must not be too proud to accept the WORD; after all it is Christ John1:1-18, and it is what will judge us in the last day John12:46-50. We must change our minds and then our ways if we want to be SAVED, “Repent” Mark 9:43-48; Rom. 12:1-2; 2Pet.3:8-18. Then the scriptures tells us of the few that will find and accept the WORD, and the many that will not accept it because of being blinded by the god of this world, “the Devil”; Matt.7:1329 and 22:14; “2 Cor 4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not; 2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath
blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (See also Luke 4:1-13; 1John5:19-21; Rev.12:9 and 13:6-9) 1 Pet 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the (1)righteous (2)scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. Definitions: (1)righteous-1342 dikaios-righteous, observing divine laws. (2)scarcely be saved -3433 molis (mol’-is); probably by var. for 3425; with difficulty, 2) not easily, very rarely: KJV— hardly, scarce (ly), + with much work. Dear reader, our hope is that you would question those “Religious Leaders” by the Apostles’ doctrine, that observe, and or
impose these unscriptural traditions upon you. Jesus Christ said that the belief of him is in the apostles’ word, so that we ALL will be ONE (John17:1421; Acts1:1-4; 2:42) because he gave them, the apostles the Word, and they Kept IT, (John17:5-10). Remember the engrafted Word is also able to save our souls if we are doers of it and not hearers only (James 1:21-22). He that hath an ear, let them hear and then strive to do, if we are to be of the Church that Christ is building (Acts 2:47). Please remember as always, the purpose of these articles is to seek the TRUTH according to the WORD, thereby exposing ERROR, for the purpose of saving our souls. We believe this is best done by definitions and the Preponderance of SCRIPTURES; which is having superior weight, force, importance, or influence of Scripture. Again we believe this allows Scripture to Interpret Scripture, thereby allowing a better understanding on that topic. Again, thank you so much for your interest in the WORD of TRUTH; Grace and Salvation; John 17:17-21; Acts 20:29-32; James1:21-25. After all it is our MAP to HEAVEN and away from HELL! PV PANTHERS CLAW THEIR WAY PAST ALCORN STATE IN HOMECOMING SHOWDOWN By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Prairie View, Texas- With an over flowing crowd of somewhere around 12,000 fans the Panthers clawed their way past Alcorn State 52-37. They also withstood a 282 yard passing effort from former Booker T. Washington and Studewood Cobras John Gibbs who plays for Alcorn State these days. But it was the near perfect passing of former Lufkin quarterback De’Auntre Smiley who burned the Braves for 251 yards and four touchdowns on 16 of 20 passing. He also added 31 more yards on the ground and made the Braves defense work double duty.

Former Smiley High School standout DeAndre Cooper hauled in six passes for 95 yards and one score. The well balanced Panthers attack also saw Jacoby Anderson grab two passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Even former Madison Marlin Idowu Olantunde grabbed a five yard scoring pass from Smiley to end the Panthers 52 point day. The day started as Gibbs pass was caught but the receiver failed to get his feet down in bound and the field goal try was blocked. The Panthers went back up field and Spencer Nelson ran 26 yards for the first score of the game. After a turn over, the Panthers struck again when
Idowu Olatunde’(89) tight end had TD catch in win
Chris Barrick booted a 23 yard field goal for a 10-0 lead. Alcorn answered when Devon Francois went 85 yards with a fumble recovery to put the Braves back in it. Then Smiley went to work and found Jacoby Anderson from 37 yards out and a 17 to 7 advantage. The Braves answered with a 24 yard field goal from Ernesto Santillan only to watch as Smiley hit Greg Thurmond from 46 yards away and a 24-10 halftime lead. Fred Anderson opened the second half scoring with a 15 yard run for a score and Smiley struck again this time to Deandre Cooper from 50 yards out and a commanding 39-10 lead. Right after that Terrence
Jordan Johnson (73) freshman lineman sees action
Lewis broke free on a big 94 yard kickoff return and following a turn over Nick Brooks hauled in a 3 yard scoring pass from Jordan Payne and it was 38-24. The Panthers got creative as Spencer Nelson tossed and option back pass to Nick Shumaker from 19 yards out and a 45-31 lead. But Smiley was not finished yet he found former Madison Marlin Idowu Olantunde’ from 5 yards out. Then Alcorn’s John Gibbs raced 12 yards for a score to end the scoring at 52-37. Once again it was great to be upon the hill and all the color that goes with black college football.

STUDENT OF THE WEEK
JLESIP GARCIA-JFK. As we roll into the playoffs for the Studewood Cobras first year player Jlesip Garcia is getting into a groove. The 3rd grader at John F. Kennedy has been thrust into the center position on the freshman Cobras and doing a fine job. In the classroom Jlesip made three Bs and one C in the last grading period and certainly loves Math best. Crediting his teacher with doing a fine job and
who says he really likes being in her classroom. The handsome lad is the son of Maria and Ignacio Garcia and they are members at Christ The King Catholic Church. Maria is a 2006 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She currently is working with the Cobras and looking forward to the playoffs. “I’ve always wanted to get Jlesip into football and we are happy to have him out with the Cobras”. In his spare time Jlesip loves to play basketball and the football video games with his father and they take turns winning.

becoming the first African American President of the U.S.A. Jlesip said he thinks its just great and he too feels someday he can become the first Hispanic American to be President. He went on to say he thinks President Obama is doing a fine job and if he could vote he would vote to give him a second term. In closing we asked Garcia to describe himself and he stated he is a guy who has plenty of good looking hair on his head and loves the Houston Texans and the Studewood Cobras as his two favorite football teams. We are glad to have the Garcia family out with the Cobras and Jlesip won the crown of Prince for the freshmen squad as he tied with Cameron Daughtry in fund raiser sells. Both will be honored along with all the other Cobras when they hold their 36th Annual Banquet December 2, 2012 at the Campbell Center!

DE’AUNTRE SMILEY-PV - JOSHUA SIMMONS-YATES
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK DE’AUNTRE SMILEY-PV Prairie View, Texas-On a day when the Panthers needed a win in the worse kind of way sophomore quarterback DeAuntre Smiley did his thing. To the tune of 16 of 20 for 251 yards and four touchdowns and he rushed for 31 more yards on five carries. The Lufkin graduate talked with us following the game. Right off the bat he said “Rest in Peace” for his late high school coach John Outlaw who passed away on December 23rd. “Coach Outlaw was a very positive influence in my life and he and I would talk for long periods of time and he taught me to not
only be a good quarterback but a good person as well”. The 6 feet 2 inch 225 pound quarterback made life rough for the Braves defense all day long. “They got to bring it to pull me down once I get going, but Alcorn came to play today and we needed this win so we have been working hard in practice getting ready for them". Thanks to his effort Smiley shared SWAC Player of the Week honors with teammate kicker Chris Barrick who made seven of eight extra points and added two field goals in the win over Alcorn State.
29 come from behind win over Southern University in the 3rd Annual Shreveport Classic. The sophomore from Lufkin is got it going on these days and look for more of the same as Panthers win 3 straight. JOSHUA SIMMONS-YATES The 8th Annual Fiesta BookerBryant Memorial Classic took on a chill of more than one accord. The Mighty Jack Yates Lions battled the hard fighting Booker T. Washington Eagles to a scoreless tie at the end of one period. Then senior quarterbackJoshua Simmons went to work with short passes and getting the Lions in position for the score. He then took matters in his own hands and scored
on a 22 yard gallop with 8.37 left in the second period. A little less than three minutes following a Washington turnover, Simmons did his thing again from one yard out. He also connected on six of nine passes for 101 yards and added 23 more yards on the ground. But in the second period he strained his ACL and spent the entire second half on crutches but he had done enough to lead the Lions to victory. “They say it’s strained and I plan to have an MRI done in the morning to see, but I sure hope I can be back to help my team in the playoffs. You can rest assured Coach Ronald Miller and the Lions staff have their fingers crossed also. Simmons credited Washington with playing a tough game and
said the Lions had to have this one after Washington edged them a year ago 14-13 at Delmar. “I knew we had to come out strong in order to get the jump on them because we knew they would fight hard”. It was their fifth district victory leaving them at the top of the District 23-3A.The win is the Lions sixth in eight games this year and they are going to need Simmons services in their showdown for the district title with Kashmere. Victor Gaines is the backup who also got to see action in the games and is ready just in case Simmons can’t go.
Smiley connected with four different receivers for his four touchdowns; two to running backs and two to receivers. Talk about spreading the ball around, this kid did it all on this fine day for football upon the hill. When you look at the youth on this team you can see the Panthers are building to be strong in the very near future. The big quarterback came into his own when he rushed for 170 yards and passed for 398 and threw four touchdowns in a 49-

LINEMAN OF THE WEEK-TITUS BRYANT-YATES
By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Time really does fly when you’re having fun. Fact is Titus Bryant is a sophomore second year starter at Jack Yates center position. Yes the former Studewood Cobra who once dominated the little league line play on both sides of the ball is now one of the leaders on the Yates offensive line.
While playing in the 8th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic he kept the Yates backs free from Booker T. Washington defenders all night long. Titus is the grandson of former Washington Coach James “Bear” Bryant who coached the Eagles to the University Interscholastic League semi-final game in 1968. That was the second year after Texas High Schools integrated
in 1967. Bryant went on to coach at Forest Brook where he coached Chris Bias who passed for five thousand yards in a single season (1986) a record which still stands today. Just another note Bear also wrote a book on “The Art of Passing” helping influence other coaches to pass the football more. In talking with Titus we asked what is it like to win the game his grandfather is honor by. “It makes me want to cry tears of joy to think I’m playing in this game and what a great coach my grandfather must have been for people to be still honoring him today”. Born two years after Bear passed away Titus never got the pleasure of meeting his grandfather but you can rest assured his grandmother (Mrs. Charlotte Bryant) has told him plenty about the legendary
coach. Back to the 13-3 win over the Washington Eagles for the second year starter at center, Bryant added he feels if the Lions play together and follow their coaching instructions this team could make a good run in the playoffs. They will face Kashmere for the district title next weekend and then look forward to the playoffs following their season finale against old rival Jones. “We kind of have it going for us after our slow start and I truly feel we are going to do well in post season play. In closing please allow me to add Bryant is the first freshman to start on the offensive line in Jack Yates history and is taking on more of a leadership role as his career unfolds!

Prairie View, Texas-In his second season as the head football coach at P.V. Heishma Northern is getting his team together. Following their big 52-37 victory over Alcorn State University in their Homecoming matchup he was excited. “We told our guys each game is the most important game of the season and it started with the win in Dallas against Grambling State University”. Northern and his Panthers still can make the SWAC title game with a run of
We moved on to talk about the Panthers game plan to deal with freshman sensation John Gibbs. “We didn’t want him to come home and beat us so we tried to keep him bottled up and certainly we did not want him to run and beat us”. The second year coach went on to say the Braves signal caller still got free for a 49 yard bomb and finished the game with 282 yards passing. “I felt the wind sort of affected the way they wanted to throw the football and they kept their passes short and they made it better for us to defend, but he still got free a couple of times on us anyway”.
PV Head Coach Heishma orthern
Feeling his team is jelling at the right time, Northern says the Panthers are on the move and things could work out for them if they simply prepare one week at a time. “We’ve got to take this thing and work it just to play one more good game and then another one and so on. We can’t afford to look ahead, our minds are on Southern right now"!
RONALD MILLER-YATES After working with Nathaniel “Puddin” Jones for 18 years, the past two years Ronald Miller has found himself going against him. Last year in the 7th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic the Yates Lions fell to the Booker T. Washington Eagles 14-13. But Miller vowed to get back at his old buddy and he did this time around 13-3. “We knew Washington's chances of making the playoffs were all but gone, but they still played very hard and we want to commend them on that”. Yates scored twice in the second period and it was enough as they turned back the Eagles on several drives and held them to a 48 yard field goal by Alejandro Arambula. “We knew Booker T. was going to play us hard so we tried to get out front and hold on, because they has always had good talent and played us hard”. After last year’s game Jones forced Miller to wear a Washington t-shirt from the Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic and he couldn’t help but show off his Yates t-shirt following the game for our television videos. “Yes the Fiesta Booker-
Bryant trophy is right where it belongs with the Jack Yates Lions”. But again on a serious note the Lions had several key players go down with injuries. The Lions leading rusher Arthur Lockett set out the second half with a bump, but quarterback Joshua Simmons who scored both Lions touchdowns in the second quarter spent the second half on crutches on the sidelines. But thanks to his 106 yards passing and his 23 yards of rushing including the game’s only two touchdowns, he still managed to win the most valuable player award. “We have an MRI
scheduled for Joshua on tomorrow and we are hoping for the best”. It was good to see Miller laughing and enjoying himself after the game. The former twoway player from Yates in the early 70s has spent more than 35 years at the school. “We try and conduct ourselves in the manner which Coach Luther Booker would have wanted us too”. Miller played on the first Jack Yates team coached by Booker in 1971. “Coach Booker set a standard for us to follow and we are doing our best to stay along those lines”.

THE RISING STARS-FRED ANDERSON-PV - ALEJANDRO ARAMBULA-BTW By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View FRED ANDERSON-PV Prairie View, Texas-Sophomore running back Fred Anderson led all rushers with 103 yards and scored one touchdown on a 15 yard gallop. It helped the Panthers of P.V. beat Alcorn State 52-37 to keep their SWAC title hopes alive. Anderson in his second season from Cypress Woods High School is a solid built 5 feet 9 inch 175 pound back with good moves and speed as well. “We just kept making mistakes and Alcorn was taking advantage of them, but we finally got it all together and held on to win the game”. When asked if the Panthers could run the table and make the SWAC title game Anderson thought first and then answered; "Yes sir I feel we can if we simply continue to get better and take this one game at a time”. He went on to say the slow start is behind the team now and the win in Dallas against Grambling
was a plus for the team and they are on the right track now. For the record that’s the first time P.V. has beaten Grambling State in consecutive years since 1963 and 1964 under the late Billy Nicks. “It was kind of up and down for us for a while but once we stop giving up the big plays and got our offense going we been playing better football”.
Sophomore RB Fred Anderson rushes for 103 yards - photo by Dr. Victor Keys
ALEJANDRO ARAMBUL BTW For what it’s worth for the third time this season Alejandro Arambula has helped the Booker T. Washington Eagles avert the shutout. It was his 48 yard field goal in the fourth period that accounted for the Eagles only points in their 13-3 loss to the Jack Yates Lions. The senior kicker has a good strong leg and a solid 4.0 G.P.A. in the classroom at Washington and he is certainly going to kick the ball on the next level and perhaps beyond. “I understand we don’t have a kicking coach but I love my coaches and teammates here at Booker T. Washington because we all work together”. Just think if this kid could get some training how good he would be. The 8th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic held at Barnett Stadium on a cool brisk Friday night and the Lions roared to a 13-0 lead but failed to score in the second half. This allowed the Eagles to hang around and with Arambula
strong leg, the Eagles are always good for 3, 6 or 9 points in a game. Fact is the week before in the Eagles loss to Kashmere, Arambula boomed one from 50 yards or so to give the Eagles their only sux points of the contest. Without a doubt the big schools should be looking at this kid because he has proven over the past three years he can get the
job done. We will certainly be following Arambula for the next two games and we will have a student of the week profile on him later as well. But again we say we know great when we see it and this kid has got great potential and the colleges had better take a good long look at this kid!

GIBBS FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT AT ALCORN STATE By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View Prairie View, Texas-My mind quickly goes back to his little league days when a tall skinny kid came out to the Studewood Cobras and was already 11 years of age. Needless to say he was certainly behind those who had been out for football since they were five and six years old. But it mattered not because according to Studewood Cobras varsity coach Reggie Washington, John Gibbs was special right from the start. “King I had him only one year and once we taught him to roll out to get away from the rush he was a near perfect quarterback for us”. Gibbs then joined a summer track program
and worked on his speed and even became a hurdler before his high school career was over. After that he was super in middle school and by the time he was in the 9th grade at Booker T. Washington Senior High School he had developed leadership skills and was ready to lead his team each time he took to the field. Former BTW standout defensive line Dr. Victor Keys came back from a freshman game and told me this Gibbs kids is great and he is going to do well for BTW in the coming years. Despite going to coaching changes three times, Gibbs still managed to go 10 of 11 against Jack Yates in the Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic and took home the
Rising Star award in his junior year. He came back under his third coach in his senior year and led the Eagles to a win over Jack Yates 14-13 and won the MVP of the annual fall classic and continued to show the best touch as a passer since Andy Dalton was at Katy a few years earlier.
In addition to his touch, Gibbs can throw the ball down field when he needs to as well. After covering sports for more than 30 years we feel good about this kid and before he is done we feel he is going to re-write the record books at Alcorn State University before he is done. Head coach Jay Hopson talked

with us following the game at PV and commented on his prize freshman signal caller. “As you know we are building and John Gibbs is certainly part of our plan and more important than his abilities on the field he is such an outstanding young man as well”. Hopson who is in his first year as the Braves head man went on to mention that Fred “Air” McNair is the quarterback coach and working very hard to keep Gibbs getting better each week.
After his 22 of 32 for 282 yards and one touchdown plus eight rushes for 30 yards including a 12 yard scoring run in the fourth, we spoke with John Gibbs. “Yes sir I feel we are getting there and with Fred McNair working with me I hope to get better as the weeks go by”. Gibbs who we feel has it all going for him is a Mass Communication Major and is certainly off to a flying start. Funny how some 18 years ago the late Steve McNair scored eight touchdowns and amassed more than 600 yards on that same field and went on to finish third in the balloting for the Heisman award that next spring. We couldn’t help but ask Gibbs if he felt two or three years down the road he could be doing the very same thing. “Yes sir I feel it’s all here for me and I certainly plan to make the most of my opportunities and I’m learning everything as fast as I can”.
During the last 30 years we’ve ran across some great ones and let me be the first to tell you this kid is right on the that list. Now Gibbs will join such names as Rodney Hampton, Johnny Bailey, Broderick Thomas and Santana Dotson to name a few.

BTW AND PV LOSES A TRUE LEGEND IN DAVID HALL By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Booker T. Washington family lost one of their greatest athletes when David Hall passed away on Thursday October 18, 2012. Hall a 1966 graduate of BTW where he dominated play in four sports and still managed to finish in the top of his class. He went onto to Prairie View College where he decided to make track and field his top sport. He was certainly tops in the sport as he teamed with other to form one of the nation’s top relay teams. During his senior year they toured all over the
world in some of the biggest tracks meet of that time. For more than 34 years Hall taught and coached at Baytown Lee but moved into administration the last 16 years before retiring. Through it all Hall kept in touch with BTW and PV and was noted for being one of their biggest supporters. FIFTH WARD COWBOYS LOSES CHEERLEADER COACH-CHALINA LEANN HOSTON-WILLIAMS By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Fifth ward Cowboys of the Independent Youth Sports league lost their cheerleader sponsor on September 29th. Chalina LeAnn Hoston-Williams who was very dedicated to working with the group passed away. The first born of Patricia Cambers-Hoston and Charlie Lee Hoston on June 25, 1979, Chalina was baptized at New Hope Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1989. In 1996 her family moved to Monroe Louisiana where he went on to graduate from Ouachita high school where she cheered for the Lions sports team.

By John Engel Every December we take a time out on a Saturday in December to honor those buried at our ational Cemeteries (including those buried at sea). The Wreaths across America Organization along with corporate and private sponsors lay wreaths at the graves of our military heroes. Wreaths will be placed at over 600 sites worldwide on this day. I was honored to be allowed to ride in support of this day in 2011. We met at a Wal Mart parking lot in ew Caney very early in the morning. About 100 motorcycles escorted the Wal Mart trucks containing the wreaths. We left at dawn with a police escort and headed to the Houston ational Cemetery. When we arrived we set up a flag line at the Hemicycle. At the appropriate time, the ceremony started. A color guard provided by a Boy Scout Troop presented the colors. Then after the blessings and memorials, a ceremonial wreath was presented for each branch of the services. After the wreaths were presented, we went to the stock of wreaths and selected a wreath. From there we went to a grave and placed it with great respect. Every one of us was asked to take a moment to read the name on the stone and try to honor them for their service. This was repeated until all wreaths were placed.
LeAnn went on to attend Northeast Louisiana University known as Louisiana-Monroe these days. Participating in the choir and the music groups she become known for her on-campus singing of Negro Spirituals and African American Broadway musicals and Operas as well.
If you have a family member or friend at the H C, you may request that the grave be marked with a small red flag. The general public will respect the marker and you will be able to place the wreath on the grave yourself. This is a wonderful way to honor a loved one on this solemn occasion.
In December of 2000 Chalina married Eddie Ray Williams and they have two sons (Elyia Ray Williams and Emanuel Ray Williams) and one daughter Eleya Leraye Patrice Williams.
If you are able to stay, it is a very moving experience to view the graves in the rows with the wreaths in place. Last year, as I was walking back to my motorcycle, I passed a woman kneeling over a grave crying. I asked her if she needed a hug and she nodded. After holding her and offering comfort I asked why she was there for. She showed me the grave of her father, a military veteran. ext to his grave was that of her mother, also a veteran. I walked back to where I was parked with a tear in my eye but a warm feeling in my soul.
The charming young woman was a dedicated professional and served as director with YWCA’s Early Childhood Center in Houston. She was selected by the United Way Bright Beginnings Program to represent the YWCA in Italy. Despite the fact she was ill she continued to work helping the

BELIEVING IN LOVE Hey Lovers, do you believe in Love?....Love at first sight?.. Romeo and Juliette? Believe it or not there are some people in this world that don’t believe in Love, and I guess they have their reasons. Sometimes we go through such bad relationships time and time again, that it causes us to give up on love. I can understand taking a break, but we should never give up com-

pletely. Sometimes we should take a break and think about what has gone wrong, was it me, was it him, was it them, but never say never...There are also some people who have never experienced Love, or should I say real Love; this could be you. It’s a good thing if you have had good examples to follow, parents who were in a good relationship or even friends. We know this is
not always the case. Can we learn how to love from a book? I say yes and no. It’s like going to school - you get all the book knowledge, but until you get that job and get the hands on experience it’s nothing like it. Therefore I conclude there is nothing wrong with reading about it, and not the romance novels, for you are sure to have some drama in those. You should be a little more factual I think and just apply the principle to the natural way of doing things. I know that may sound like something out of a Dr. Phil show, but don’t knock it especially if it works for somebody out there looking for Love. As for as Love at first sight, I personally don’t believe in it. Maybe lust at first sight... A strong feeling of I think I like this person.. There is really no

way to love unless you truly get to know a person. I know the bible verse “God is Love”, but when it comes to relationships, and being in love it’s a whole new ball game. I also believe the more you get to know your mate and the more you are together, the more you trust and respect them. The stronger love becomes, the harder it is to be torn apart by the trials and tribulations of life. Now for Romeo and Juliette, yes it was a love story, but in reality if you are in Love with someone to that level, and it is possible, then any thing is possible. What do the wedding vows say? Till Death Do us Part...It actually happens more than you think.. Make sure you tune in to “The Love Corner” on Wednesday nights with EZ Robbins and me and special guests as we discuss

The Way I See It By BIG John Chandler I have always in some sense supported most University Interscholastic League decisions regarding Texas athletics. The U.I.L. has received plenty of criticisms and no doubt their current policies will create some heat also. But trust me dear readers, this time it’s unwarranted. In fact, its just a waste of time. The first policy update allowing a fourth teams from Class 3A and 2A was the right move. Sorry old schoolers, but this should have happened years ago when it was implemented for Class 5A and 4A. This will take place during the 2013-14
school year. It simply gives more young athletes exposure to colleges and thus more opputunties for athletic scholarships. How could anyone disagree with that? Rest assured many will stating it waters down the playoff structure. Don’t look now but not many if any that I could recall fourth place teams in 5A or 4A made it to the title games. Teams lose in the playoffs because they fail to produce defesnive stops in key moments in the game or fail to score enough points during the game. A fourth place finished fourth for a reason. Making the play-

I support this policy 100%. Cable networks have had issues with Texas for years regarding their decision for not allowing high school football games to be televised on Friday nights. Friday nights belong to the high schools but networks opened their check books and some colleges, begging for both money and exposure leaped at the chance to grab Friday night for their programs. Peasonally, I’m at a high school game. so I could care less who’s on television. But allowing the playoff games to be televised allows the nation to see what we

Step out of the shadow of the booth in the corner and into the afternoon light. Often weekdays are the best time to try new places. Leave the weekend to the amateur partiers.
Another option is to have at home happy hours where friends can bring their favorite wines, desserts or signature dishes. Add another twist and bring another person that’s new to the group as your happy hour “potluck” contribution. Saturday or Sunday morning brunch is another way to interact with people that are not just night owls or doing the bar crawl. in Texas have known for yearshigh school football in this state is the best this nation has to offer. Thirdly this policy will no doubt create a lot of heat. Beginning next year, basketball teams (which will be effected the most by this policy) can only participate in two tournaments per year and 21 regular season games prior to the playoffs. This will make tournament selections very difficult for some schools especially for temas with a lot of talent, that fans and universities want to see. I think this policy wants to remind the student/athlete of his/her main goal-be a student first. We have in this state so many young people that don’t get a good education and are simply ill prepared to move

Money is an issue that all school districts face. Is this a good polcy? It has some good points, but overall we’ll have to wait and see. Texas High Scool Basketball is now considered by many to be near the best in the country. This policy could change that perception. HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL REPORT-NORTH FOREST ROLLS TO 9-0 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View North Forest continued their winning ways with a 56-0 blanking of Jeff Davis for their 9th win of the season against no defeats. If you recall North Forest combined Forest Brook and Smiley High Schools into one and it’s paying off big for them on the football field. Anthony Jones started it off with only four carries but picked up 75 yards and scored twice. While teammate Alex Benjamin had only 55 yards on seven carries but he also scored twice. Quarterback Darrell Julian hit on six of 10 passes for 93 yards and two more touchdowns in the win. DeMarcus Jackson had a big 42 yard scoring pass from Julian and DeShawn Wiggins ran 10 yards for another score as North Forest rolled on. The Katy Tigers won for the eight time in eight outings with a spanking of Strait Jesuit 62-7. Rodney Anderson rushed for 110 yards and two scores on only sevem carries. Adam Taylor did his thing with 16 carries for 115 yards and hit pay dirt twice as well. However the Tigers can pass as well with Kiley Huddleston connecting on seven of 14 for 137 yards and three touchdowns as well. In Division II Class 5A all roads to the state goes through Katy, Texas once again.
ground and passed for 101 yards all in the first half, but it was enough. Simmons left the game just before half time with strained ACL and the Lions are hoping to have him back before the playoffs. Lamar shutout Madison 41-0 as Darrell Colbert passed for 178 yards on 13 of 24 and three touchdowns. The balanced attacking Redskins also had 189 yards on the ground with Levy Whiteings getting 34 yards and one touchdown n nine carries and Ronnie Wesley picking up 66 yards on 14 carries and scoring from one yard out. The win is the eight of the season against no defeats and basically gives them the district title as well in 20-5A this season. Speaking of Mustangs the North Shore Mustangs galloped to their eight win of the season with a 34-7 win over Beaumont Westbrook. Micah Thomas led the way with 91 yards rushing and one touchdown. But Carlos Perez booted field goals of 38 and 39 to add to their scoring totals.
The Jones Falcons put an end to Kashmere’s perfect district run when the upset the Rams 42-29. It marked the first time this year the Rams fell in District 23-3A action. Furr remained in the hunt with a 27-6 win over Sterling as both team at 3-2 in district action. Yates and Kashmere will basically play for the district title this weekend. The Wheatley Wildcats sneaked back into the playoff picture with a 27-17 win over the Waltrip Rams. Milby kept their small hopes alive as well with an 8-2 win over Austin.
Cypress Falls ran past CyWoods 35-10 and Dekaney beat Klein 21-14 in overtime. It was Spring over Klein Oak 48-41. Cinco Ranch beat Seven Lakes 27-7 while Fort Bend Bush won over Elkins 29-22. JACK YATES LIONS WIN OVER BTW IN 8TH ANNUAL FIESTA BOOKER-BRYANT MEMORIAL CLASSIC 13-3 By King Arthur Prayther A King-Size View The Jack Yates Lions and Booker T. Washington Eagles squared off in the 8th Annual Fiesta Booker-Bryant Memorial Classic at Barnett Stadium. It was a cool and brisk night for football with a wind chill somewhere in the high 40s but neverthe-less the show must go on. After a scoreless first period the Lions got rolling at senior quarterback Joshua Simmons begin hitting David Funchess and Victor Gaines to get the Lions in scoring position. Then Yates went in from 22 yards out for the game’s first score before going in from one yard out to make it clearly 13-0 and it would appear it would be enough. But during the first half he also sprained his ACL and spent the second half on the sidelines on crutches. It just so happened the Eagles could only score when Alejandro Arambula booted a 48 yard field goal. Simmons had done enough to walk away with the most valuable player award.
As always the case Mrs., Charlotte Bryant was there dressed in a beautiful black outfit and joined by her sons Tim and Byron Bryant. Elvis Paul from the class of 1977 presented Mrs. Bryant with this year’s plaque. She was escorted on to the field by the legendary Walter Penrice a 1971 graduate of Washington Senior High School and is currently the President of the Studewood Cobras Little League Football Organization. On the other side of the field Mrs. Clairene Booker made her way with his daughter Annette and son Guy alongside her. She was dressed is a gorgeous dark red outfit. She was escorted on to the field by Maurice Hobson a member of the Jack Yates state championship 1985 16-0 football team. She was joined also by Maurice McGowan the offensive coordinator on that team and the man who took over when Booker retired in 1988. Members of the 1992 state finalist Jack Yates football team took part in the halftime ceremonies on this chilly night for football at Barnett Stadium.
