“Tricolor” – Art exhibition on the occasion of the Romanian Centennial

On the 1st of December 2018 we celebrate 100 years of Romanian national state, a very significant anniversary for all Romanians. We celebrate the remarkable achievement of 1918 (the aftermath of the WWI) - the union of all Romanians that had lived separated by borders, long sharing the same goal of unity. We also celebrate the continuity, cohesion and strength of the Romanian people through 100 years of complex history. The anniversary is an occasion to honor the past but also to look to the future. Romania particularly desired to celebrate this event together with France, whose support was essential for this historical achievement. To this purpose, a dedicated bilateral program – Season Romania France 2018-2019 – was initiated to honor the deep connection our countries share, at political and cultural levels. The art exhibition “Tricolor” is dedicated to the Romanian flag, the symbol of the historic events we are celebrating. The flag is of particular relevance to our connection to France as we also mark, in 2018, 170 years since our flag, Tricolor, was presented in Paris, in the context of the French revolution, a significant political event that changed the European continent. Romania lived the French Revolution entirely, through the deep intellectual connection our elites had with France, being the only country in Central and Eastern Europe that experienced and embraced so dearly at that moment the aspirations and values of the Western European modernity. We wanted to honor Romania and the Tricolor through an art project. All the paintings and art objects exhibited represent a facet of Romania – from the beauty of her nature to the soul of her people. As such, the colors used are only those of the Romanian flag: blue, red and yellow. This outstanding exhibition was only possible through the dedication and talent of two extraordinary people – Hassan Wahbeh and Khaldoon Daoud. Their personalities, creativity and not least their very touching bond with Romania, transformed this project into an impressive art result and a beautiful connecting bridge between our countries, Jordan and Romania.

Le 1er décembre 2018, nous célébrons les 100 ans de l’Etat national roumain, un anniversaire très important pour tous les Roumains. Nous célébrons la remarquable réalisation de 1918 (le lendemain de la Première Guerre mondiale) - l’union de tous les Roumains qui avaient vécu séparés par des frontières, partageant depuis longtemps le même objectif d’unité. Nous célébrons également la continuité, la cohésion et la force du peuple roumain à travers 100 ans d’histoire complexe. Cet anniversaire est une occasion d’honorer le passé mais aussi de se tourner vers l’avenir. La Roumanie a particulièrement souhaité célébrer cet événement avec la France, dont le soutien pour cette réalisation historique a été essentiel. Pour ce but, un programme bilatéral spécifique - Saison Roumanie France 2018-2019 - a été lancé pour honorer le lien profond que nos pays partagent, au niveau politique et culturel. L’exposition d’art “Tricolor” est dédiée au drapeau roumain, symbole des événements historiques que nous célébrons. Le drapeau est particulièrement important dans le cadre de notre lien avec la France puisque nous marquons aussi, en 2018, 170 ans depuis que notre drapeau, Tricolor, a été présenté à Paris, dans le contexte de la Révolution française, un événement politique important qui a changé le continent européen. La Roumanie a vécu entièrement la Révolution française, grâce au lien intellectuel profond que nos élites entretenaient avec la France, étant le seul pays d’Europe centrale et orientale qui ait connu et embrassé chaleureusement les aspirations et les valeurs de la modernité européenne occidentale. Nous voulions honorer la Roumanie et le Tricolor à travers un projet artistique. Toutes les peintures et objets d’art exposés représentent un aspect de la Roumanie - de la beauté de sa nature à l’âme de son peuple. Ainsi, les couleurs utilisées sont uniquement celles du drapeau roumain: bleu, rouge et jaune. Cette exposition exceptionnelle n’a été possible que grâce au dévouement et au talent de deux personnes extraordinaires - Hassan Wahbeh et Khaldoon Daoud. Leur personnalité, leur créativité et surtout leur lien très touchant avec la Roumanie ont transformé ce projet en un résultat artistique impressionnant et un magnifique pont entre nos deux pays, la Jordanie et la Roumanie.

“Tricolor” - Expoziție de artă cu ocazia centenarului românesc

La 1 decembrie 2018 sărbătorim 100 de ani de stat național unitar românesc, aniversare de o semnificație deosebită pentru toți românii. Celebrăm realizarea remarcabilă a anului 1918 (după încheierea primului război mondial) - unirea tuturor românilor care trăiau separați de granițe, dar împărtășind demult același deziderat al unității. Sărbătorim în același timp continuitatea, coeziunea și forța poporului român pe parcursul a 100 de ani de istorie complexă. Aceasta aniversare reprezintă atât o ocazie de a onora trecutul, dar și de a privi spre viitor. România a dorit în mod special să celebreze acest eveniment împreună cu Franța, țară al cărei sprijin a fost esențial pentru concretizarea acestei realizări istorice. Am dedicat în acest scop un program bilateral special - Sezonul România Franța 2018-2019 - pentru a onora relația profundă care leagă țările noastre la nivel politic și cultural. Expoziția de artă “Tricolor” este dedicată drapelului românesc, simbolul evenimentelor istorice pe care le celebrăm. Drapelul are o relevanță deosebită pentru legătura României cu Franța, întrucât în 2018 sarbatorim de asemenea 170 de ani de la prezentarea pentru prima dată a drapelului tricolor la Paris, în contextul revoluției franceze, eveniment politic care a transformat major continentul european. România a trăit Revoluția franceză integral, prin profunda legătură intelectuală a elitelor sale cu Franța, România fiind singura țară din Europa Centrală și de Est care a experimentat și îmbrățișat atît de calduros la acel moment aspirațiile și valorile modernității occidentale. Am dorit să onorăm România și Tricolorul în acest context prin dedicarea unui proiect de artă. Toate picturile și obiectele de artă expuse reprezintă fațete ale României - de la frumusețea naturii sale până la trăsături de suflet ale poporului său. Culorile folosite sunt doar cele ale drapelului românesc: roșu, galben și albastru. Această remarcabilă expoziție de artă a fost posibilă doar prin dedicația și talentul a doi oameni extraordinari - Hassan Wahbeh și Khaldoon Daoud. Personalitățile lor, creativitatea și nu în ultimul rând afinitatea lor emoționantă față de România, au transformat acest proiect într-un act artistic impresionant și nu în ultimul rând într-o frumoasă punte de legătură care apropie țările noastre, Iordania și România.

‫في األول من شهر كانون األول‪/‬ديسمبر ‪ ،2018‬نحتفل بمرور ‪ 100‬عام على تأسيس الدولة الرومانية‪ .‬وهذه مناسبة عزيزة على قلب كل مواطن روماني‪.‬‬ ‫فنحن نحتفل باإلنجاز العظيم الذي تم عام ‪ 1918‬إبان الحرب العالمية األولى والذي أدى إلى وحدة جميع الرومانيين الذين كانت تفرقهم الحدود ولكن تجمعهم‬

‫آمالهم في الوحدة‪ .‬كما نحتفل باستمرارية وترابط وقوة الشعب الروماني على مدار مئة عام من التاريخ الحافل‪ .‬وهذه مناسبة لالحتفاء بالماضي وللتطلع‬ ‫إلى المستقبل‪.‬‬

The French Institute adorned in three Romanian colors Promoting the creativity of Francophones, embodying cultural diversity, reaching out to the citizens of the host countries are some of the objectives of the activities related to the “Francophonie” days, which we have started to celebrate since the beginning of March and for which the embassies of France and Romania are pleased to collaborate. The exhibition “Tricolor” is part of this project; it is an artistic event likely to attract a wide audience of French and nonFrench speakers, and that also puts the spotlight on two Jordanians with deep affection for Romania, Khaldoon Daoud and Hasan Wahbeh. I was all the more amenable to the idea of having the exhibition installed at the French Institute, as proposed by my colleague Nicolae Comanescu, since I know the importance of this year, 2018, for Romania, which celebrates the centenary of its unification, which was partly made possible by the battles carried out by our two allied armies on the Eastern Front at the end of the First World War. This exhibition, carrying the colors of the Romanian flag, is a good opportunity to remember together another significant period in our exceptional relationship, that of the 1848 revolutions, which rolled across our two countries and which, despite their failure at the time, were crucial to the development of democratic values. If this exhibition reminds of the influence the French Revolution had on Romania, clear in the similarity of our flags and our currencies, we must also remember what France owes to Romania, whose contribution has been particularly important in the literary and artistic fields, where Romanian artists have often been pioneers. Not only is the Franco-Romanian relationship a historical legacy, it is also one of great vitality. This 1st of December the “France-Romania Season” will be launched; it will be an effervescent period in the relations between our two countries, one whose forerunner, in a way, is this “Tricolor” exhibition in Jordan.

L’Institut française se pare des trois couleurs roumaines

Valoriser la créativité des francophones, incarner la diversité culturelle, aller à la rencontre des citoyens des pays hôtes, voici quelques-uns des objectifs de la fête de la Francophonie, que nous avons déjà commencé à célébrer depuis le début de ce mois de mars et pour laquelle les ambassades de France et de Roumanie ont le plaisir de collaborer. L’exposition « Tricolore » s’inscrit pleinement dans ce projet en proposant une manifestation artistique susceptible de réunir un large public de francophones et de non-francophones et en mettant à l’honneur deux jordaniens ayant une profonde affection pour la Roumanie, Khaldoon Daoud et HasanWahbeh. J’ai été d’autant plus sensible à la proposition de mon collègue Nicolae Comanescu d’installer l’exposition au sein de l’Institut français que je sais l’importance de cette année 2018 pour la Roumanie, qui célèbre le centenaire de son unification, en partie permise par le combat de nos deux armées alliées sur le front Est à la fin de la première guerre mondiale. Cette exposition, aux couleurs du drapeau roumain, est une bonne occasion de se remémorer ensemble un autre temps fort de notre relation d’exception, celui des Révolutions de 1848 qui traversèrent nos deux pays et qui, en dépit de leur échec immédiat, permirent le développement des valeurs démocratiques. Si cette exposition rappelle l’influence de la Révolution française en Roumanie, ce dont témoigne encore aujourd’hui la proximité entre nos drapeaux et nos devises, il convient de garder à l’esprit ce que la France doit à la Roumanie, dont la contribution a été particulièrement importante dans les domaines littéraires et artistiques, dans lesquels les artistes roumains ont souvent été des précurseurs. La relation franco-roumaine n’est d’ailleurs pas qu’un héritage historique, elle reste d’une grande vitalité. Le 1er décembre prochain sera lancée la «Saison France-Roumanie», qui constituera une période d’effervescence pour les relations entre nos deux pays, et à ce titre, l’exposition «Tricolore» est en quelque sorte un événement précurseur, en Jordanie.

Institutul francez împodobit cu cele trei culori românești

Punerea în valoare a creativității vorbitorilor de limba franceza, reprezentarea diversitații culturale, communicarea cu cetățenii din țările gazdă sunt doar citeva dintre obiectivele festivalului Francofoniei, pe care am început deja să-l sărbătorim la începutul lui martie și pentru realizarea căruia ambasadele Franței și României au satisfacția să colaboreze. Expoziția “Tricolor” se înscrie pe deplin în acest proiect; ea reprezintă un eveniment artistic susceptibil de a reuni un public mare de francofoni și non-francofoni, și in acelasi timp, pune în prim plan doi iordanieni care au o profundă afecțiune pentru România, Khaldoon Daoud și Hasan Wahbeh. Am fost cu atît mai mult de acord cu propunerea colegului meu Nicolae Comănescu de a instala expoziția în Institutul Francez cu cit realizez importanța acestui an, 2018, pentru România, care sărbătorește centenarul unificarii sale, in parte realizată datorită luptelor celor două armate aliate pe Frontul de Est la sfârșitul primului război mondial. Această expoziție, în culorile steagului românesc, este deasemenea o ocazie de a ne reaminti împreună de o altă perioada importantă in relațiile noastre excepționale, cea a revoluțiilor din 1848 care au trecut prin cele două țări și care, în ciuda eșecului lor imediat, au permis dezvoltarea valorilor democratice. Dar daca această expoziție reamintește de influența pe care Revoluția Franceza a avut-o asupra României, astăzi clar vizibilă in asemănarea steagurilor și monedelor noastre, nu trebuie sa uităm faptul că Franța îi este deasemenea datoare României, care a avut of contribuție deosebit de importantă în domeniile literar și artistic, unde artiștii români au fost adesea precursori. Relația franco-română nu este doar o moștenire istorică, ci una de o mare vitalitate. La 1 decembrie va fi lansat “Sezonul Franța-România” care va fi un moment de efervescența in relațiile dintre cele două țări; expozitia “Tricolor” din Iordania este asadar, într-un fel, un eveniment precursor.

‫حيث أنها تصادف مئوية وحدتها‪ ،‬والتي يعود جانب من الفضل في تحقيقها إلى المعارك التي خاضها جيشانا المتحالفان على الجبهة الشرقية في أواخر الحرب‬ ‫العالمية األولى‪.‬‬

‫ويمثل هذا المعرض‪ ،‬الذي يزدهي بألوان علم رومانيا‪ ،‬فرصة جيدة الستذكار مرحلة مهمة أخرى في العالقة المميزة بيننا‪ ،‬وهي ثورات ‪ 1848‬التي اجتاحت‬ ‫بلدينا‪ .‬وعلى الرغم من فشلها آنذاك إال أنها مهدت الطريق إلرساء قيم الديمقراطية‪.‬‬

My love for Romania goes back over four decades. It started with my student years (1974-80) in the beautiful city of flowers, Timisoara, and has never stopped. The fact that my wife and son are Romanians only deepens this love affair that has made me, over time, become a strong defender and promoter of Romania’s values. And they are many. I am grateful for what Romania gave me, in terms of education and partner for life, and I will always boast that my most beautiful youth years were spent there. Now, as Romania celebrates the important landmark that is its centennial, I feel even more acutely the need to get involved in activities that can mark the event. This exhibition, held in the context of the centennial, is one such activity, one in which I invested all my energy and soul. For, while stemming from Jordan, my country, it honors Romania and Romanians through, perhaps, the most poignant symbol nations identify with: the colors of their flag. “Tricolor”, as the exhibition is titled, is my collaborative effort with artist Khaldoon Daoud, another Jordanian in love with Romania, which he visited many times; it pays tribute to the people of this country, its amazing nature -- forests, the delta, the Danube -- and, it is hoped, its art and culture. My relationship with Khaldoon and his cultural foundation Rawaq Al Balqa, situated in the small, peaceful, Christian town of Fuheis, is long standing. For 30 years, we have partnered in activities that promote local and international art and culture in an attempt to bring people together, a much-needed effort in these times of ethnic or religious conflicts. Khaldoon is an artist whose works transcend the borders of his country. Together we participated in exhibitions in several European countries -- Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Cyprus. Today, for the purpose of this exhibition, he freed his creativity and gives proof of his great love for Romania. Of much help in making this event outstanding was the Romanian Ambassador to Jordan Nicolae Comanescu, who supported the idea every step of the way and gave valuable feedback and contribution.

Mon amour pour la Roumanie remonte à quatre décennies. Il a commencé avec mes années d’étudiant (1974-80) dans la belle ville des fleurs, Timisoara, et n’a jamais cessé. Le fait que ma femme et mon fils soient des Roumains ne fait qu’approfondir cette histoire d’amour qui, avec le temps, a fait de moi un ardent défenseur et promoteur des valeurs roumaines. Et ils sont nombreux. Je suis reconnaissant pour ce que la Roumanie m’a donné, en tant qu’éducation et partenaire pour la vie, et je me vanterai toujours que les plus belles années de ma jeunesse ont été passées là-bas. Maintenant que la Roumanie célèbre l’important jalon de son centenaire, je ressens d’autant plus vivement le besoin de m’impliquer dans des activités qui peuvent marquer l’événement. Cette exposition, organisée dans le contexte des journées francophones, est une de ces activités, une dans laquelle j’ai investi toute mon énergie et toute mon âme. Car, tout en venant de Jordanie, mon pays, l’exposition honore la Roumanie et les Roumains à travers, peut-être, le symbole le plus poignant auquel s’identifient les nations: les couleurs de leur drapeau. “Tricolor”, comme s’intitule l’exposition, est un effort de collaboration avec l’artiste Khaldoon Daoud, un autre jordanien amoureux de la Roumanie, qu’il a visité à plusieurs reprises, et rend hommage au gens de ce pays, à sa nature étonnante -- forêts, le delta, le Danube -- et, espère-t-on, à son art et sa culture. Ma relation avec Khaldoon et sa fondation culturelle Rawaq Al Balqa, située dans la petite et paisible ville chrétienne de Fuhais, est ancienne. Depuis 30 ans, nous nous sommes associés à des activités de promotion de l’art et de la culture locales et internationales dans le but de rapprocher les gens, un effort nécessaire en ces temps de conflits ethniques ou religieux. Khaldoon est un artiste dont les œuvres transcendent les frontières de son pays. Ensemble, nous avons participé à des expositions dans plusieurs pays européens -- Autriche, Allemagne, Suisse, Hongrie, Chypre. Aujourd’hui, dans le cadre de cette exposition, il a libéré sa créativité et fait preuve de son grand amour pour la Roumanie. L’Ambassadeur de la Roumanie en Jordanie, Nicolae Comanescu, a apporté une aide précieuse à cet événement en soutenant l’idée à chaque étape et en y apportant une contribution précieuse.

Dragostea mea pentru România durează de peste patru decenii. A început cu anii mei de studenție (1974-80) în frumosul oraș al florilor Timișoara și continua de atunci. Faptul că soția și fiul meu sunt români nu face decit sa aprofundeze această dragoste care m-a determinat, in timp, să devin un apărător și promotor al valorilor României, care sunt multe. Sunt recunoscător pentru ceea ce mi-a dat România, pentru educație și partenera mea de viață, și mă voi lăuda mereu că cei mai frumoși ani din tinerețe au fost petrecuți acolo. Acum când România sărbătorește reperul important care este centenarul ei, simt și mai acut nevoia de a mă implica în activități care pot marca evenimentul. Această expoziție, ținută în contextul zilelor de francofonie, este o astfel de activitate, si în ea am investit toată energia și sufletul meu. Căci, deși provine din Iordania, țara mea, aceasta expozitie onorează România și românii prin, cred eu, cel mai emotionant simbol al unei națiuni: culorile drapelului ei. “Tricolor”, cum se intituleaza expoziția, este efortul meu de colaborare cu artistul Khaldoon Daoud, un alt iordanian îndrăgostit de România, pe care a vizitat-o de mai multe ori, care doreste sa aduca omagiu poporului acestei țări, naturii sale uimitoare -- păduri, delta, Dunărea -- și, speram, artei și culturii sa. Relația mea cu Khaldoon și fundația sa culturală Rawaq Al Balqa, situată în micul oraș pașnic de crestini Fuhais, dureaza de decenii. Timp de 30 de ani ne-am angajat în activități care promovează arta și cultura locală și internațională în încercarea de a apropia oamenii, un efort, cred, foarte necesar în aceste vremuri de conflicte etnice sau religioase. Khaldoon este un artist ale cărui lucrări depășesc granițele țării sale. Împreună am participat la expoziții în mai multe țări europene -Austria, Germania, Elveția, Ungaria, Cipru. Astăzi, în scopul acestei expoziții, Khaldoon a dat frâu liber creativitații sale pentru a exprima dragostea sa față de România. De mult ajutor în realizarea acestui eveniment a fost ambasadorul României in Iordania, Domnul Nicolae Comănescu, care a susținut ideea la fiecare pas și a oferit un feedback și o contribuție valoroasă.

‫بدأت محبتي لرومانيا قبل أكثر من أربعة عقود‪ ،‬حين أمضيت عدة أعوام كطالب في مدينة الورود الجميلة تيميشوارا (‪ ،)1974-1980‬ولم أتوقف عن حبها‬ ‫ً‬ ‫ً‬ ‫قويا عن قيم رومانيا العديدة‪.‬‬ ‫مدافعا‬ ‫منذ ذلك الوقت‪ .‬فقد ازداد عمق محبتي لها ألن زوجتي وابني من مواطنيها‪ ،‬وقد أصبحت‬

‫ً‬ ‫دوما إلى األعوام التي قضيتها في رومانيا كأجمل سنوات شبابي‪.‬‬ ‫فأنا ممنون لرومانيا التي وفرت لي التعليم ومنحتني شريكة حياتي‪ ،‬وسأنظر‬ ‫وإذ تحتفل رومانيا اآلن بمئويتها‪ ،‬تزداد رغبتي باالنخراط في أنشطة تحتفل بهذه المناسبة‪ .‬وهذا المعرض‪ ،‬الذي يتم تنظيمه ضمن سياق المئوية‪ ،‬هو أحد‬ ‫ليحيي ويكرم رومانيا وشعبها بوساطة ألوان علمهم‪،‬التي‬ ‫هذه األنشطة‪ ،‬فقد بذلت كل طاقتي في سبيل إنجاحه‪ .‬ومن بلدي األردن‪ ،‬ينطلق هذا المعرض‬ ‫ّ‬ ‫تعد أكثر الرموز الوطنية أهمية لديهم‪.‬‬

‫وهذا المعرض‪ ،‬الذي ينظم تحت عنوان “العلم ثالثي اللون” (ترايكولور)‪ ،‬هو نتاج جهد مشترك مع الفنان خلدون الداود‪ ،‬وهو أردني آخر يحب رومانيا بعد زيارتها‬

‫عديد المرات‪ .‬يحتفي هذا المعرض بشعب رومانيا وطبيعتها الخالبة من غابات ودلتا ونهر الدانوب‪ ،‬باإلضافة إلى فنها وثقافتها‪.‬‬

‫تجمعني عالقة طويلة مع خلدون ومؤسسته الثقافية رواق البلقاء‪ ،‬التي تقع في بلدة الفحيص الصغيرة والمسالمة ذات األغلبية المسيحية‪ .‬فعلى مدار‬ ‫ً‬ ‫عاما‪ ،‬اشتركنا في تنظيم أنشطة تروج للفن المحلي والدولي بغية تقريب الناس من بعضهم‪ ،‬األمر الذي نحتاجه اآلن بشدة في خضم الصراعات العرقية‬ ‫‪30‬‬

‫والدينية التي نعاصرها‪.‬‬

‫ً‬ ‫معا في معارض فنية في عدة دول أوروبية مثل النمسا وألمانيا وسويسرا وهنغاريا وقبرص‪ .‬وفي هذا‬ ‫تتعدى أعمال خلدون الفنية حدود بلده‪ .‬وقد شاركنا‬

‫دليال على محبته العميقة لرومانيا‪.‬‬ ‫المعرض‪ ،‬يطلق خلدون العنان لحسه الخالق ليقدم‬ ‫ً‬

‫وقد ساهم سفير رومانيا في األردن نيكوالي كومانيسكو بشكل كبير في إنجاح هذا المعرض بدعمه لفكرته منذ البداية وتقديمه المالحظات والمساهمات القيمة‪.‬‬

Romaniaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s villages and their simple, kind-hearted people, the alternating sunflower and corn fields, its seaside and its delta left a deep impression on me. During one of my 16 visits there, while travelling from Bucharest to Constanta, I saw a cement factory that brought back to my memory, vividly, my town, Fuheis, which was also the site of one such factory. In Constanta, the sight of the Grand Mosque next to churches again reminded me of my town, indeed of my country, where people of different religious denomination live harmoniously side by side. And in the Danube delta, my young heart fell for the moon twice: the one in the sky, lighting the darkness of this wonder of nature, and Luna, the young woman sitting next to me on a rock contemplating the moon in the sky. My partner in art Hasan Wahbeh and I, like all decent human beings, believe in the principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice, which were once inscribed on the Romanian flag. That, together with my feelings for this country, made it easy for me to put brush on canvas and come up with these works of art, my gift, and an expression of my love for, Romania on its centennial.

Les villages de Roumanie et leurs habitants simples et généreux, les champs alternants de tournesols et de maïs, le bord de mer et le delta ont laissé une profonde impression sur moi. Au cours d’une de mes 16 visites là-bas, alors que je voyageais de Bucarest à Constanza, j’ai vu une cimenterie qui m’a rappelé vivement de ma ville, Fuheis, qui était aussi le site d’une telle usine. À Constanza, la vue de la Grande Mosquée à côté des églises m’a rappelé de nouveau de ma ville, en effet de mon pays, où les gens de différentes confessions religieuses vivent côte à côte. Et dans le delta du Danube, mon jeune cœur est tombé amoureux deux fois de la lune: celle du ciel, éclairant les ténèbres de cette merveille de la nature, et Luna, la jeune femme assise à côté de moi sur un rocher contemplant la lune dans le ciel. Comme tous les êtres humains décents, mon partenaire en art Hasan Wahbeh et moi croyons aux principes de liberté, d’égalité, de fraternité et de justice, qui étaient autrefois inscrits sur le drapeau roumain. Cela, de plus que tous mes sentiments pour ce pays, m’a facilité la tâche de mettre le pinceau sur la toile et de créer ces peintures, mon don et l’expression de mon amour pour la Roumanie à l’occasion de son centenaire.

Satele din România cu oamenii lor de inimă si simpli, cu cămpurile invecinate de floarea soarelui și porumb, cu litoralul și delta ei, au lăsat o impresie profundă asupra mea. În timpul uneia dintre cele 16 vizite pe care le-am făcut in România, în timp ce călătoream de la București la Constanța, am văzut o fabrică de ciment care mi-a amintit de orașul meu natal, Fuheis, care si el avea in acele vremuri o astfel de fabrica. În Constanța, vederea Marii Moschei alaturi de biserici mi-a amintit din nou de orașul meu, de țara mea, unde oamenii de diferite religii trăiesc armonios unul lângă altul. Iar în delta Dunării, inima mea tânără s-a indragostit de două ori de lună: de cea de pe cer care lumina aceasta minune a naturii, si de Luna, tânăra care stătea lângă mine pe o piatra si contempla luna de pe cer. Eu si partenerul meu în arta Hasan Wahbeh, ca toți oamenii decenți, credem în principiile libertății, egalității, fraternității și justiției, care au fost o dată inscrise pe drapelul românesc. Acest crez, împreună cu sentimentele mele pentru România, m-au determinat să folosesc pensula pentru a crea aceste picturi, darul meu și o expresie a dragostei mele pentru România cu ocazia centenarului ei.

‫وفي دلتا الدانوب‪ ،‬أحب قلبي القمر مرتين‪ .‬أحببت القمر الذي يضيء العتمة من السماء ليظهر الطبيعة البهية‪ ،‬وأحببت لونا (القمر)؛ تلك الفتاة التي تجلس‬

‫بجانبي على صخرة تتأمل القمر في السماء‪.‬‬

‫أنا وحسن وهبة‪ ،‬شريكي في الفن‪ ،‬نؤمن ككل شخص عزيز النفس بمبادئ الحرية والمساواة والمؤاخاة والعدالة‪ .‬تلك المبادئ التي نقشت في علم رومانيا‪.‬‬

‫وهذا اإليمان‪ ،‬باإلضافة إلى مشاعري تجاه رومانيا‪ ،‬مكنني من ابتكار هذه األعمال الفنية بفرشاتي‪ ،‬التي أهديها وأعبر فيها عن حبي لرومانيا بمناسبة مئويتها‪.‬‬

Art is a universal language that needs no translation. And when an artist renders the object nations identify most strongly with, their flag, his works need no words to speak to minds and hearts, and to touch the innermost chords of one’s soul. That is the case of the present exhibition, simply titled “Tricolor”, which pays tribute to Romania on the occasion of its centennial: 100 years since, through one very important historical process in 1918, all provinces inhabited by Romanians came together in the “Great Union” to form the national state Romania, fulfilling the lasting desire of a people under different occupations to belong to the one country its ancestors had long inhabited. The tricolor, is the manifest symbol, and result, of this union; the flag, in general, is emblematic of nations that perhaps identify more easily with it than with any other national accoutrements. The Romanian tricolor, inspired by the French model, is an equally apt symbol to use on the occasion of the “Francophonie” days, a celebration of French culture and language in which Romania, a Francophone country, partakes. The red, yellow and blue of the Romanian flag are used by artist Khaldoon Daoud to create touching works of art that resonate with all nations but are proudly Romanian. He renders the rich Danube delta’s fauna and flora in an abstract riot of colours. The blue Danube, the rich Carpathian forests, Romanian mythology, poetry and music, but particularly its people -- who left a deep impression on the artist during his many visits to the country -- find their place on his canvases and in his sculptures that are moving, implied or explicit, and very Romanian. Khaldoon’s artistic expression would not have been complete without a hint of political involvement. For, in this region beset by wars and conflicts, it is difficult to remain unaffected. His talent, however, and a brilliant touch, made it possible to transform tools of cruelty and death -- knives and machetes -- into the most iconic symbol of peace: the dove. A highly charged exhibition in a highly charged context. A thoughtful expression of love for Romania and a great language for peoples who believe in and share love for art, culture and dialogue.

L’art est un langage universel qui n’a pas besoin de traduction. Et lorsqu’un artiste rend l’objet avec lequel les nations s’identifie le plus, leurs drapeaux, ses œuvres n’ont pas besoin de mots pour parler aux esprits et aux cœurs et pour toucher les cordes les plus intimes d’un âme. C’est le cas de l’exposition actuelle, simplement intitulée “Tricolor”, qui rend hommage à la Roumanie à l’occasion de son centenaire: 100 ans depuis quand, à travers un processus historique très important en 1918, toutes les provinces habitées par les Roumains se sont reunies dans la “Grande Union” pour former l’état national qui est la Roumanie, répondant au désir ancien d’un peuple sous différentes occupations d’appartenir au pays que ses ancêtres avaient longtemps habité. Le tricolore est le symbole manifeste, et le résultat, de l’union; le drapeau, en général, et emblématique des nations qui s’identifient avec lui peut-être plus facilement qu’avec n’importe quel autre accoutrement national. Le tricolore roumain, inspiré du modèle français, est un symbole tout aussi approprié à utiliser à l’occasion des journées de la Francophonie, une célébration de la culture et de la langue françaises, auxquelle la Roumanie, pays francophone, participe. Le rouge, le jaune et le bleu du drapeau roumain sont utilisés par l’artiste Khaldoon Daoud pour créer des œuvres d’art touchantes qui résonnent avec toutes les nations mais sont fièrement roumaines. Il rend la richesse de la faune et de la flore du delta du Danube dans une émeute abstraite de couleurs. Le bleu Danube, les riches forêts des Carpates, la mythologie roumaine, sa poésie et sa musique, mais surtout son peuple - qui a laissé une empreinte profonde sur l’artiste lors de ses nombreuses visites au pays - trouvent leur place sur ses toiles et dans ses sculptures qui touche le coeur, sont implicites ou explicites, mais qui sont très roumains. L’expression artistique de Khaldoon n’aurait pas été complète sans un soupçon d’implication politique. Car, dans cette région assaillie par les guerres et les conflits, il est difficile de ne pas être affecté. Son talent, cependant, et une touche brillante, ont permis de transformer les outils de la cruauté et de la mort - couteaux et machettes - en symbole de paix le plus emblématique: la colombe. Une exposition très chargée dans un contexte très chargé. Une expression de l’amour pour la Roumanie et une grande langue pour les peuples qui croient et partagent l’amour pour l’art, la culture et le dialogue.

Arta este un limbaj universal care nu are nevoie de traducere. Iar când un artist creaza obiecte cu care ca națiunile se identifica cel mai puternic, drapelul lor, lucrările lui nu au nevoie de cuvinte pentru a vorbi minților și inimilor, și pentru a atinge coardele cele mai adinci ale sufletului. Acesta este cazul expoziției de astăzi, intitulată simplu “Tricolor”, care aduce un omagiu României cu ocazia centenarului său: 100 de ani de cind, printr-un foarte important proces istoric în 1918, toate provinciile locuite de români s-au alaturat în “Marea Unire” pentru a forma statul național România, îndeplinind dorința de durată a unui popor aflat sub diferite ocupații de a aparține unei singure țări, cea pe care strămoșii săi o locuiau de mult timp. Tricolorul este simbolul manifest și rezultatul acestei uniri; steagul, în general, este emblematic tuturor națiunilor, care probabil se identifica mai ușor cu el decât cu orice alt simbol național. Tricolorul românesc, inspirat dupa modelul francez, este asadar un simbol la fel de potrivit de folosit cu ocazia zilelor “Francofoniei”, o sărbătoare a culturii și limbii franceze în care România, o țară francofonă, se implică. Roșul, galbenul și albastrul steagului românesc sunt folosite de artistul Khaldoon Daoud pentru a crea opere emoționante care pot usor rezona cu toate națiunile, dar care sunt cu mândrie românești. El recrează fauna și flora bogatei delte a Dunării printr-un abstract virtej de culori. Dunărea albastră, bogatele păduri ale Carpaților, mitologia, poezia și muzica românească, dar mai ales oamenii care au lăsat o impresie profundă asupra artistului în timpul numeroaselor sale vizite în țară, își găsesc locul pe pânzele și în sculpturile sale care emotioneaza, stirnesc sentimente prin exprimarea lor implicita sau explicita, dar care sunt foarte românești. Expresia artistică a lui Khaldoon nu ar fi fost completă fără o aluzie la implicare politică. Căci, în această regiune bulversata de războaie și conflicte, este dificil să rămâi neafectat. Talentul lui insa a făcut posibilă transformarea unor unelte de cruzime și moarte - cuțite și maceți - în cel mai iconic simbol al păcii: porumbelul. O expoziție foarte încărcată într-un context foarte încărcat. O expresie profundă de dragoste pentru România și un limbaj cât se poate de potrivit pentru popoare care cred in și împărtășesc dragostea pentru artă, cultură și dialog.

Khadoon Daoud is a man of few words but many actions.

This artist has been working for over three decades to put his town, Fuheis, on the artistic map of the country, but also to present Jordan as a Middle Eastern nation that is contributing to the universal patrimony through art. Khaldoon is owner of Rowaq Al Balqa foundation; he opened the first art gallery in Fuheis close to three decades ago. He saves old houses from destruction, restores them, stubbornly working to preserve the character of this old Christian settlement. He has organized scores of artistic symposiums, bringing together big names and upcoming artists with equal dedication and enthusiasm. He published tens of artistic books promoting his country’s, Arab and world places, treasures and civilizations and his works were exhibited in Germany, Switzerland, Lebanon, Cyprus, Greece. He surprises with the depth of research. Decisions taken apparently on a whim are actually carefully studied. And once taken, they are executed without delay, most often spectacularly. His latest artistic creations, painted in the “happy” colours of the Romanian flag, are paying homage to this country. For, “I know these people, I love these people and their country, and this is how I wish to express my feelings.”
