From the Director’s Desk… Hello Encinitas, As the last few months of the school year are winding down, the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is gearing up for summer. We are excited for the camp offerings that are featured in the spring program and summer camps guide. In addition to the amazing summer camps, the City is bringing back signature events including the Spring Egg Hunt and Summer Concert Series at Moonlight Beach. Recreation facilities are open, and applications are being accepted for rentals at the Community and Senior Center. Visitors to Moonlight Beach can enjoy the new concessionaire, Beach Wolf Restaurant, Rentals and Retail. You can enjoy organic teas, coffee, hot chocolate, shaved ice, and wonderful food items. Rentals include custom cast iron grills that ﬁt over the bonﬁre pits, wood bundles, cooking utensils and s’mores kits. Hours and information can be found at www.Beach-wolf.com. In addition to the many programs, events and camps, residents and visitors can enjoy the City’s beautiful beaches, miles of trails, acres of parks and many public art spaces. Happy Spring!

PROGRAM FEES: Non-residents add $10 to registration fee. A $2.50 processing fee will be added to each Youth & Teen, Adult and Sports program. Senior Citizen non-residents add $3. A $1 processing fee will be added to each Senior program.

Word is Beach Wolf has tasty food and fun beach rentals for the whole family. Chef David Volk and Chef Justin Lewis are preparing new food concepts at the Moonlight Beach concessions! The new food concepts may entice you, your family, and friends to enjoy dinner at the beach. Enjoy organic teas, coffee, hot chocolate, shaved ice, wonderful breakfast sandwiches that are served all day, and you will also find a daily revolving special’s board. FOR YOUR INFORMATION Park hours are 5am - 10pm unless stated otherwise. Beach parking and amenities hours are 5am - 10pm. Beach is closed 2am - 4am. Please no glass containers, polystyrene food containers or smoking allowed at City parks, beaches and trails. All parks are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enjoy an evening of visual art, live music, and refreshments as the City of Encinitas and local art galleries swing open their doors for Art Night Encinitas. The event celebrates the City’s diverse visual art scene at participating locations and is free to the public. The bimonthly art open houses also beneﬁt artists through the sale of their art and provide the public an opportunity to interact with artists and learn about the creative process. Catch a ride on one of the shuttle buses that will transport the public between all three civic art spaces as well as additional stops to access participating spaces and the Institute of Contemporary Art. Please park at Encinitas City Hall, the Encinitas Community Center, and the Encinitas Library to easily access the shuttle. Upcoming Art Nights will take place on May 14 and July 23, from 5:30 - 8:30pm. NOTE NEW TIME! FREE "Bicycle Skills and Safety" Classes this Spring! The City of Encinitas, in partnership with the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition offers free classes this spring which will teach road rules, where to ride, general bike safety, emergency maneuvers, legal rights and responsibilities and will include a guided road ride to put your new skills into action! Classes are open to bike riders of all ages. E-bikes welcome! Class content applies to both regular and e-bikes. The 3-hour class is broken up into 3 parts: lecture, skills drills, road riding. All classes are held at the Encinitas Community Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas.

MOBILITY ELEMENT UPDATE IS UNDERWAY! Join us throughout the process to develop goals and policies for a citywide mobility plan. The Mobility Element is a section of the City’s General Plan that identifies a multimodal transportation network to serve the community’s needs. Construction is on schedule for Phase 1 of Leucadia Streetscape on North Coast Highway 101 between Marcheta Street and Basil Street to be complete this spring! New raised medians along the 101 containing irrigation, trees, shrubs, and mulch have been completed. The storm drain work on the 101 between Encinitas Boulevard and Marcheta Street has also been completed as well as the new pavement and striping with dedicated bike lane on the northbound lanes. New decorative sidewalks have been placed on the west side of the 101 between Marcheta Street and El Portal Street. Numerous streetlights have also been energized on the east side of the 101 within the new parking pods. On the west side of the 101 between El Portal Street and Basil Steet, new curb and gutter has been installed and more pavement will be placed on the southbound lanes in February. Toward the end of the month and into March, work will begin to replace the rest of the remaining sidewalks. After the sidewalk work is complete on the west side of the 101 between El Portal Street and Basil Steet, we will begin planting new trees and shrubs and install new streetlights as well as new street furniture such as benches, chairs, tables, bike racks and trash receptacles. The ﬁnal stage of work will be the El Portal roundabout and tying into the El Portal undercrossing to provide a connection to Vulcan Avenue. The Leucadia Streetscape and El Portal Undercrossing projects will be completed in late Spring 2022. The Leucadia Streetscape team continues to engage local businesses to provide information about upcoming work and help address their concerns. Uniforms: All participants will receive a red JG shirt on the first day of the session. Boys are required to wear navy blue swim trunks and girls are required to wear a navy blue swimsuit. Required uniforms may be purchased at the swim test location, or on the first day of the session, or you’re welcome to find your own navy blue suit. All attire must be athletic in nature and not revealing. Original Watermen suits costs approximately $30-40 and rash guards costs approximately $27-29. Seaside Day Camp (ages 5 – 12)

Come join us for a great camp experience at Seaside day camp! You will have a blast with your friends participating in engaging art, science, dance, sports, and playful activities that will deliver an innovating-igniting experience you will love! Camps will comply with all California Department of Health guidelines to ensure camper safety. Daily snack provided. Campers should pack a peanut free lunch each day. Our Seaside staff are looking forward to seeing you! FITNESS Karate - Beginner (ages 6 - 17) International Karate League: Modiﬁed Okinawa Shorin-Ryu. Investigate a pretend crime scene and sift through clues to crack the case. As part of the Mad Science Bureau of Investigation you will gain observational skills that are used by secret agents.

Advanced Care Planning Advanced care planning is key. Making thoughtful choices now, putting them into a written advance directive and discussing those choices with others are the three main actions we all need to take. This course is designed to inform and educate seniors and adult children about palliative care, hospice care, advanced directives, physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLST), and specific concerns including dementia. In its 11th year, the free concert series Wednesdays@Noon is presented by the City of Encinitas to enrich the arts scene in Encinitas for residents, visitors, and cultural tourists from throughout the region. It has become the highest attended daytime series in the county with attendance of 160+ each week. The 50-minute concerts at the Encinitas Library feature outstanding musicians from throughout Southern California performing all styles of music. We hope to see you often! The most distinctive member of the young generation of Czech violinists, top-selling artist Pavel Šporcl has been triumphantly received by audiences in major music venues throughout the world, thanks to his rich classical background and dynamic stage presence. ISAAC LÓPEZ, saxophone ANDRÉS JARAMILLO, piano Friday, May 20, 2022 - 7:30pm

Dr. Isaac López and Dr. Andrés Jaramillo met in the music libraries of USC and have been collaborating ever since. Their mission is to take audiences on a musical journey exploring the rich history of classical music and bring to light the plethora of new classical music being composed throughout Latin America. Their concert will incorporate Afro-Latin Jazz music.

Both accomplished artists as pianists and cellists, The Rice Brothers’ performances have been well-received by audiences of all ages across the U.S. and Europe. SAVE THE DATE! The iPalpiti Festival will return to Encinitas July 14-18, 2022 with

over 20 musicians around the world to perform under the direction of Maestro Schmieder.
