PROGRAM PREVIEWS
NATURE: PRIMATES WED., NOV. 4-18 AT 8 PM
usky leaf monkey or Spectacled langur (Trachypithecus obscurus). The adults D are gray with tell-tale white markings around their eyes that look like spectacles. Need a babysitter? As you’ll learn in the new three-part miniseries Nature: Primates, a dusky leaf monkey just might be right for the job. You can judge for yourself, as the scene unfolds with a family of dusky leaf monkeys that compete to hold the newborn infant of the group, and later rally to defend it from a python. This is just one example from the series of how family is central in the lives of primates. Throughout the episodes, viewers will meet devoted monkeys’ uncles, playmate apes and tender troops as Primates ventures into the lives of chimpanzees, gorillas, lemurs, macques, orangutans, snub-nosed monkeys and much more. As Primates reveals, they have the most complex social lives of any animal group, and they are called the highest order of animal on the planet. With their big brains, they are smart and adaptable; they use tools, self-medicate, hunt and swim. They are social and political; form hierarchies and friendships, and they can be very mischievous. Tune in beginning November 4, as Nature: Primates travels to 17 countries to introduce these fascinating creatures and share more about the ground-breaking discoveries scientists are making to safeguard their future.

GPB KIDS GIVE THANKS WITH CRAFTS
This Thanksgiving, you can encourage your kids to think about how much they have to be thankful for and teach them the value of gratitude with the Thanful Tree craft. Materials • Orange, green, red, yellow colored paper • Pencil or crayons • 2-3 bare tree branches • Scissors • Glue Gun • Tall Vase Directions 1. Using a pencil or crayons, draw 25 leaf shapes onto your colored paper. 2. Cut around the drawn leaf shapes on the paper. 3. Talk with your kids about what they’re thankful for. Write down the different things you are thankful for on the leaves. Younger children can also draw a picture of what they are thank- ful for on their leaf. You can also draw lines on some of your paper leaves to make them look realistic. 4. Add glue to the bottom edge of each leaf. Attach to the branches at the top to make a tree. Once your tree is complete, display it on your Thanksgiving table so you can be reminded of all the things your family is grateful for this holiday season. For more craft ideas and additional resources, visit: pbs.org/parents/happy-thanksgiving.
