Utility Regulation: ‘Challenges of Regulation in an Age of Uncertainty’ Event: Utility Regulation 2013 | Venue: Hogan Lovells, London | Date: 5 December

Huge investment in network infrastructure is needed to ensure that energy and water supplies continue to be available to meet demand. At the same time Government wants the UK to transition to a low carbon economy whilst also keeping prices to consumers at levels which are acceptable. Smarter technology is being rolled out to influence consumer consumption and deliver accurate bills; and this innovation has to be supported and funded to deliver smarter systems that work for all stakeholders. All this against a backdrop of greater uncertainty and risk, yet companies have to focus on the future to ensure financial and operational success. Companies are also looking at investments in alternative energy sources, including unconventional sources, biofuels and renewable energy and ways to improve energy efficiency.

Have Regulators been influencing policy too much with their many and varied incentive mechanisms? Is it possible to incentivise investment in infrastructure for the renewable future without over-burdening consumers? How are firms’ investment decisions being influenced by instability in the regulatory environment? What effect is uncertainty and procrastination on energy policy having on investment? How will network owners, suppliers, regulators and investors be able to work together to develop, adapt and deliver the utility business model to make our 21st century utility systems work?

Join us for the ninth annual seminar of Utility Regulation where these issues will be addressed together with the annual updates from the CEOs of Ofgem, Ofwat and WICS. Speakers Include:
