eidi Hoffower, exploration director for Chevron Mexico; Emry Hisham Bin Yusoff, general director of Petronas Mexico; Andrés Brügmann, general director of Fieldwood Mexico; José Edel Alvarez Delong, general director of Nuvoil, and Jesús Lamas, general director of Schlumberger Mexico, were quite optimistic about the times ahead. The directors shared that the contribution of private companies is fundamental to increase the production and efficiency of the national industry. They trusted that, with their participation, the federal government will not only reach the production goal of 2.6 million barrels per day at the end of the six-year period, but could reach up to three million barrels per day. “The contribution of private companies is fundamental to transform the national oil industry; it is important and vital to be able to have a vibrant, dynamic and innovative industry,” agreed the executives in the framework of the 2019 Mexican Oil Conference.
The five companies are currently working on several oil projects in Mexico. Although the work is done separately, and with their respective risks and stakes, the challenge is the same: to contribute to the development and transformation of the Mexican oil industry. For Emry Hisham Bin Yusoff, general director of Petronas, one of the most active companies in Mexico with operation in 10 blocks, the challenge of investing in Mexico has been very complicated, but they are convinced that the results will validate the bet. For his part, Andres Brügmann, CEO of Fieldwood Mexico, said that his company’s venture is focused on mature fields, where they expect to reach a potential of 100,000 barrels per day in the medium term; “investments are maturing and the results are coming,” he said. Furthermore, Jesús Lamas, general director of Schlumberger Mexico, was optimistic about the future of the country’s oil industry, despite the cancellation of upcoming farmouts
