LETTERS FROM THE EDITORS
Three years and twelve issues in... how did that happen?!? It feels like it was just yesterday that we were sitting brainstorming the concept of the magazine, fine tuning our mission to our readers and area businesses, and ironing out how we were going to bring our publication to life. Three years later, we have poured our hearts and souls into each issue and continue to grow as a publication, and that is in part why we bring you our Metamorphosis inspiration shoot. It applies to you as brides and couples, but it just as equally is the process that has brought us to this point. As a magazine we started in print but are now online. We started with four real weddings in each issue, and now we bring you between five to seven real weddings per issue as well as cover elopements AND destination weddings. We are no longer hindered by what print held us to, and we continue to grow and improve what can bring you across our social media and online platforms. Our change is part of our natural progression, and as wives, women, and mothers we hope that you will enjoy your process of metamorphosis as well. Change is beautiful, and it brings us to the places that we need to be. Enjoy your pre-married life, but prepare yourself for your greatest adventure of love, of family, and finding what it means when two become one. Please also enjoy everything that we have brought together in this issue for you, and all our love as you kick off an amazing new year and decade! 2020 here we come!!! Cheers to the new year, and may it be our best one yet!

Cheers!

“You do not just wake up and become the Butterfly. Growth is a process.”
This photoshoot was inspired by a conversation about personal metamorphosis. We wanted to depict a wedding with delicate details contrasted against a rough backdrop and could not have found a more perfect location than the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse "Boneroom," the last large courtroom awaiting eventual restoration. Butterflies, ruffled flowers, branches and a sheer caped dress evoking wings brought our visions to life. This photo captured by Rachelle Baggett shows the perfect juxtaposition of hardship, strength and beauty.

Proper Protocol

Esther Bloom Photography Garden of the Gods Herod, Illinois

Don’t always assume a picturesque location is accessible to the general public without permission. Whether it’s for your actual wedding or for engagement or family photos, sometimes a permit is required to legally take the steps for permission and follow the proper protocol. Bring pre-printed labels for easy peeling and sticking! You’ll save time and won’t wear yourself out! 4. When discussing services such as photography, videography, hair, and makeup, etc. that are very personal, make sure that the individual that you are talking to and more or less interviewing is the person that will be providing the service not just someone filling in to help with the booth. It always helps to talk to the head person doing the service, even if that means setting up a follow up appointment for later (as these events can super packed and you may only get a few moments with people). 5. Be patient with us as vendors. We are in for a super long day, and while we want to give each and every one of you our full and undivided attention, we are human. We get hungry. We have to pee. STEPHANIE & AARON
Stephanie and Aaron's love story began in 2016. Although they had
both been active in their running group for many years, the group has hundreds of members, so it took awhile for them to find one another. One day at a run, Aaron spotted Stephanie and began asking other group members about her. Finally, with the help of a mutual friend, the two were connected. After a few weeks of talking and discovering their mutual love of running, movie quotes, and traveling they went on their first date. Two years of memories and many marathons later, Aaron popped the question in Chicago right before a big race. Their wedding took place on a beautiful summer day at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Evansville, IN. After the ceremony, the couple celebrated with a reception at the Old Post Office. The decor embodied a classic and elegant look, perfect for the venue, and the white and blue color scheme looked absolutely timeless. Among family and friends, they laughed, danced and celebrated their love. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY 43

ANNA & KYLE Anna grew up in a small town in Southern  Illinois, and at the age of 20 decided to make a move to Mobile, Alabama, for better weather and the gulf coast beaches. Once there, she joined Crossfit and would run into Kyle often, who was in the coast guard and stationed there. Both of them felt an attraction and would sometimes stay longer and do extra workouts just to spend more time together. Anna says she’s never been in such great shape in her life! When they finally started dating, they both were relieved to not have to work out so much just to see each other. A year and a half after dating, Kyle proposed. When choosing a venue they decided to come back to Southern Illinois to be closer to family. The Celebration of Love

PEYTON & JOE Peyton and Joe’s story started out in high school. With lockers just a few apart, they got to know each other and started dating their senior year. They both attended Purdue University and took some time apart, but it wasn’t long after that they found themselves in the same circles and decided to give dating another shot. Since then they have been inseparable. After graduation, Joe bought a house that needed some remodeling. They started working on the house day in and day out. Joe, being the true handy man he is, believes in the “no days off” work philosophy. Toward the end of September, while still working diligently on the house, Joe asked Peyton on a long overdue date night. She happily agreed. That night, Joe took her to his family’s river camp with dinner in tow, which is where they had their first date back in high school, and he popped the question! When planning their wedding, they chose decorations in shades of pink and pops of gold both glam and romantic. The cake table made a statement with a floral lined wall and custom accents. They were able to incorporate some fun personalized items into the wedding like the cake knife and server that Peyton’s parents used at their wedding and photos of both sets of parents from their wedding day. And, they had to have popcorn for all of our guests in Harry’s Chocolate Shop popcorn bags, a favorite of theirs from their time at Purdue. Joe and Peyton’s biggest hope was that their wedding be a fun celebration for all – and judging from how packed the dance floor was, it was just that. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY 59

DELAINE & CHRIS Delaine and Chris were absolutely not looking for love when they met in a
local bar back in 2016, but love certainly found them. Both being single parents, Chris of 3 kids and Delaine of 4, they knew they had to be smart and take things slow. They wanted to make sure they were serious about each other before introducing their children. It has now been over two years since they joined families, and they haven't looked back. The couple said their "I dos" in front of a lavish, floral moongate during a stunning, old-world ceremony in the Old Vanderburgh County Courthouse. They wanted their wedding to be an “epic” affair. Guests were treated to a cocktail hour game of “Name That Movie” as soundtrack music was played from some of their favorite films and TV series such as Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Gladiator. The guests with the most right answers got to choose from a selection wine as their prize. There decor consisted of regal candelabras, aged metals, and beautiful fresh flowers. A decadent feast table of fruits and cheeses were laid out for guests to enjoy before the main dinner. Everyone danced and ate like kings surrounded by candlelight within the magnificent walls of the Old Courthouse. ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY 65

ALISON & JOHN John and Alison were close friends for many years in college but were always
in relationships with other people. Th e y h a d n e v e r c o n s i d e re d a romantic relationship because their lifestyles were very different from each other and after college they went on separate paths. Almost a decade later, when both had come out of long-term relationships, they began hanging out again. The level of kindness, respect, and support they had for each other drew them close. They had both suffered tragedies and losses in their lives and always gave each other comfort and security. The more time they spent together, the more they realized they were in this relationship for the long haul. When John proposed, it was fitting, as their dogs had always been so important to them. John tied the engagement ring around one of their dog’s collar and told Alison to give the dog a goodbye kiss before leaving for dinner. As soon as she saw it, she said yes!
For their wedding ceremony they chose St. Mary’s Catholic Church and they chose City View for their reception. Alison loves antique pink garden roses and based the color scheme of the wedding décor around it. 90’s rap, Spice Girls and Mariah Carey made their wedding a throwback dance celebration as their family and friends shared in their long-awaited joy. The Diamond Galleria Solitaire + Stackable Bands It’s true what they say… the classics never go out of style. And, even though the shimmering diamond solitaire has evolved over the years, this single diamond nestled in a six-prong setting remains a treasured design to symbolize your commitment to one another. Looking to make a solitaire design all your own? Know that you can pair it with stackable wedding bands. These bands come in a variety of shapes, sizes and metals, making the mixing-andmatching that much more versatile. Plus, it gives you Halo + Bloom Style One stunning design that really made an appearance

the ability to add to it in the future to celebrate anniversaries or the birth of a child.

in 2019 is the Halo or Bloom setting. This design comes from a square or rectangular-like diamond with curved corners and a row (or two!) of diamonds encircling it, giving the illusion of a larger center diamond! The Diamond Galleria offers a variety of diamond halo rings, but keep in mind you can also customize your ring and add a halo to virtually any design.

Yellow Gold Mounting There’s something to say about a yellow gold mounting. The classic metal is making a major comeback in vintage-inspired engagement rings and beyond. Whether you’re in the market for a modern take on an old classic, or looking to give off a fabulous nostalgic vibe, yellow gold might be the way to go.

 REAL DESTINATION ELOPEMENT

Adventurers for Life

JOHNNA & JEREMY In the words of the Groom:
I met Johnna on an online dating site where we had texted back and forth for about a week before I asked her to go out on a date. I kayaked often and had an extra one that I offered to let her use while I used the other one. When we met in the parking lot of a local restaurant, she warned me that she had shared her location with her best friend, just in case she didn’t make it back to land. I thought she was joking. She wasn’t!

We headed out to a local wildlife and fishing area, where we paddled around and got to know each other better. As we shared more of our lives with each other, I let her know how much I admired her ability to overcome a lot of adversity. Later I found out that this had endeared me to her early on. After catching a great sunset, we went back to the restaurant and had dinner. We ended up losing track of time and closing the place down. Luckily for her, any nightmarish situation she might have imagined did not occur, and she felt I was worth seeing again.

Although we had opposite paths that had led us to where we were, we shared a strong sense of adventure. We both wanted traveling and experiencing new things to be a priority in life. Falling in love was not a priority, however, it happened fairly soon after we started dating. Ironically, early on, we both had no desire ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY 89

to be married again. We spent the next couple of years going on adventures together and merging our families with the goal of making as many epic memories as possible. We frequently went to music festivals and concerts. We bought a scratch off map and made it a goal to scratch off as many states as possible. It was important for us to include our children whenever we could, and all members of the family had to be present for a state to be scratched off. We also fell in love with the idea of trying to visit as many national parks as possible in our travels. We are fortunate to have family coast to coast to visit.

We have taken road trips to the east coast, had adventures in the south, and probably our most epic trip to date was visiting family on the west coast and Yosemite. After all these adventures, we found that life would not be complete without taking that final step and it only seemed fitting to have a wedding that was another adventure. We chose our wedding date to be the third anniversary of our first date. We knew we wanted a destination wedding but struggled between leaving the country or something in the states. We landed on going to Rocky Mountain National Park. We wanted it to be as simple and as stress free as possible and luckily came across a site called SimplyEloped. We found out that they have a package that included an officiant and photography and they also obtained the required permits for having a

90 ENGAGED! RIVER VALLEY

wedding ceremony in the areas we wanted.

When the big day arrived, the weather was overcast and our ceremony at Sprague Park was hastened by rain that was moving in. Our original plan was to hike to several lakes for pictures after the ceremony. It was clear that the weather coming in should not be taken lightly. Lucky for us, the Trail Ridge Road, which had been closed for the season up until this point, opened up that morning and we were able to change our plans to avoid the bad weather. Trail Ridge Road is the highlight of Rocky Mountain Park, a high mountain pass and the highest continuous paved road in the US! This incredible road takes you right up to the fragile alpine tundra, past incredible rock features, lakes, tons of wildlife, and eventually the continental divide. The views are amazing as you can see for fifty miles in any direction. Our photographers suggested that we drive up the trail to 12,000+ feet of elevation for the rest of our photo session to get some epic shots and stay in front of the weather.

We stopped at several locations with breathtaking views, and we even made the local Colorado news when they spotted us while they were shooting a story for the opening of the road. Our mission, although it didn't go as originally planned, turned out to be more memorable and enjoyable than we could have hoped for.

 The rest is history.
