Plettenberg Bay has also seen one of the best years, with its transactions for the year up by 59% from 311 in 2013 to 494 last year, while the value is up by 29% from R333 million to R429 million. The only exception is George, with only a marginal growth of 3% in the number of transactions (from 973 to 948) and 8% in the value from R639 million to R687 million. “Garden Route areas are reporting a notable increase in interest from home buyers including Knysna, Mossel Bay, George and Plettenberg Bay. Food that regrows itself Upcycle your veggies - grow food from kitchen scraps Green unions, lemongrass, leeks, fennel & spring onions

Place root ends in water, but don't fully submerge. Change water daily.

In 3-5 days growth begins. Harvest the greens when full and repeat the process.

For lemongrass only: Harvest lemongrass once, it will grow a foot tall. Simply cut off what you need.

Celery, cabbage, romaine lettuce & bok choy

Submerge the roots leaving the tops above waterline.

Spray with water a couple of times a week. Replace the water every few days. Leaves will sprout in about a week.

Onion

Ginger

Soak the chunk of ginger overnight.

Submerge in moist soil. Keep watering until sprout appear.

It will be ready to harvest in a year. Simply remove the entire plant use what you need and repeat.

Plant root end and lightly cover it in soil. Keep soil moist.

Garlic

The larger the clove, the larger the resulting bulb.

Place the plant in a sunny window, keeping the soil moist.

The bulbs will be ready for harvesting in early summer when the bottom 1/3 of the leaves have yellowed.

Use a mixture of compost and soil.

Potatoes & Sweet Potatoes

Carefully separate the new onions, leaving the roots attached. Replant them.

Occasionally cut the leaves down, to promote full growth. It will take about 5 months for plants to mature enough for harvesting.

Plant the mushroom stalk in the soil with only the surface of it exposed.

If the cutting takes, new growth will start quickly. Harvest and repeat.

Plant the cutting with only the leaves above soil. Harvest when fully grown in about 5 months.

Cut into 2-3 pieces. Make sure that each piece has two â&#x20AC;&#x153;eyesâ&#x20AC;? on it. Keep at room temperature for it to dry out for a few days.

Plant according to pictures dimensions and add soil as the plant grows to 15cm tall.

Store sweet potatoes in a warm dry place for 2 weeks before using (this makes them sweet).

Slice off the green leafy top and remove all fruit. Carefully remove bottom layers until you see root buds.

Place in water for 2 weeks to form roots.

Growth happens in the first few months but it will take 2-3 years before being able to harvest.
