e h a ve officially reached the end of 2014. Time is racing by, our working days are getting shorter and shorter with so many things to wrap up before we all embark on our December holidays. Although the year went by much faster than we might have wished, it was an extremely positive 2014. Reflecting back on it and all the events of this year, we can clearly see where the year has gone and that it definitely might be time for the holiday season. We at Engel & Völkers experienced an astonishing increase of 39% in registered sales growth to the end of October when compared to the same period in 2013. Together with this positive increase, we also celebrated the opening of new shops, a growing footprint, powerful relationships being formed, a record number of accolades achieved and much more. With the eye-catching Christmas decorations displayed in all of our shopping centres, as well as carols playing in the background, you can feel that the holiday season

“Mooirivier” will be released during February 2015 and promises to get South African movie fans lining up for tickets. Cobus van den Berg, Tim Theron and Jorrie van der Walt, producers of Klein Karoo, also bring you this film of love. The star studded line-up of actors include: Tim Theron, Anél Alexander, Hykie Berg, Milan Murray, Nadia Beukes, Heinz Winkler, Bouwer Bosch, Leandie du Randt, Danie Putter, Bennie Fourie, Francois Viviers, Elmie Brits and more. Movie enthusiasts can look forward to original music which was specifically composed for the movie and is sung by some of South Africa's favourite artists. Mooirivier is an all-in-one romantic film with five individual, intertwined story lines which unfold during the run-up to Easter celebrations in South Africa. The major story line is about six couples, between the ages of 12 and 40, who, in their

community in the filming of the movie, they also opened their hearts towards the community. All the clothing used on set and linen which was used by the actors and crew during filming, was handed to the Doulos Poverty Relief program, who distributed it to the needy.
True love can hit you when you expect it the least. Every character in the movie shares their experiences with love, as it is portrayed throughout the movie. They soon realise that love cannot be packaged in a particular way, but it can surprise you when it transpires. During specific times of the year, like during Easter, we are reminded that love, if you are willing to fight through the obstacles and challenges, can be triumphant in the end.
René van Rooyen performed as director and writer for the movie after she won the category for the best short film during the Silwerskermfees in 2012. Her short film was called Nantes. Mooirivier is her first full length film, but it is expected that she will become an invaluable name in the industry. Her husband is Corné van Rooyen, who just walked off with the accolade of best full length film at the 2014 Silwerskermfees. His film “Hollywood in my huis”, was also his first full length attempt.
Mooirivier was filmed in Potchefstroom, home of the river. The producers found the residents, mayor, city council and local business chamber very accommodating and supportive during the process. Although the producers included the

Reflecting back on 2014 A year of achievement To know that 2014 is very close to its end is quite unbelievable, but when we consider all the remarkable achievements and successes at Engel & Völkers both locally and internationally, we reflect on this past year. with pride and satisfaction.

lthough we are very careful not to rest on our laurels, we are still extremely proud of the 39% registered sales growth at the end of October 2014 compared to the same period in 2013, and we are confident that we can continue this upward trend during 2015. Earlier this year, with the minor increase in interest rates announced by the Reserve Bank, we noticed a temporary decline in the housing demand, but this soon recovered with no negative effect on home prices. “When I consider the reasons for our progression, I can confidently say it is due to our hard-working and motivated sales advisors. Their dedication and passion is clearly reflected in their performance when I monitor their sales results on a daily basis” says Craig Hutchison, CEO Engel & Völkers Southern Africa. “The ongoing and regular training presented at our International Training Academy by master trainers who were trained at our Engel & Völkers Group headquarters in Hamburg, is superb and embraced by all in the group.” Our motivated sales advisors are well trained and experienced and they continuously strive to qualify as one of our exceptional Platinum Achievers. During this past year many of our sales advisors were nominated internationally and nationally for various categories of achievement, and it is with great pride that we learnt that Theo Volschenk from our Potchefstroom franchise, won the category “TOP Agent Unit Sales worldwide” - this due to Theo achieving the highest number of points in this category among 600 shops internationally. This was also Theo's second year of being nominated for this remarkable achievement. Each year the award function and prize giving is held on the beautiful Spanish island of Majorca, at the magnificent coastline property owned by Christian Völkers, CEO of Engel & Völkers International. In July this year Theo together with his colleague from Potchefstroom, Ansa du Plooy as well as Daniël Gouws from our Pretoria New
East franchise were hosted in Majorca by the E&V group and acknowledged for their performance during the past year, and for Theo to be placed 1st Internationally was a phenomenal achievement. In July we proudly hosted our annual National Rewards and Recognition function, to which the city of Potchefstroom set the scene for a great evening. Here the high calibre of sales advisors was evident in the level of sales they achieved. There are more than 15 award categories which are acknowledged at this event, and considering the noteworthy standard of our franchisees, it is never an easy or simple task to select a deserving winner for any category. The element of surprise is however always welcome and the evening was a wonderful success. All our shops are very excited about attending our annual Rewards and Recognition function which will be hosted in Cape Town during March 2015. This will be a wonderful occasion to showcase each nominee's achievements and an opportunity to network with each other and share success stories. Another accolade to add to the list, was the approval a new franchise application for the Durbanville area in the northern suburbs of Cape Town. The two partners, Morne and Mary-Ann Vorster are as excited as we are about this new challenge and opportunity, and their new shop will open in December 2014. Consider that this marvelous packaging is made of sand and turned to a beautiful packaging medium. Then think for a moment if you really ought to throw that in the trash? Collect your festive season glass and take it to a glass bank or recycling point near you. Many service stations, restaurants and shopping centres have recycling facilities. In addition you can find a glass bank by sending an SMS with the word 'glass' and the name of your suburb to 32310, at a cost of R1.00 per SMS. Bottle Cap Snowman Items needed: * Scisors * Gluegun * Bottle caps * Coloured pens * Wool, buttons (any items to decorate) Simply stick the bottle caps to the lint, ensuring you have enough open at the top to make a loop, and decorate.
Plastic Bag Pillows 1. Find a bag that is about the size of your pillow cover or a bit larger to use as outer bag. Grocery store bags work the best. To get a smooth and uniform pillow shape – spread each stuffing bag out and then loosely roll it, then place in the bag. If you just bunch them into the bag, the pillow will look lumpy. 2. Keep rolling your bags and lay into the outer bag. Press the bags down after every 10 bags or so. Use as much as needed until you get it as firm as you like. 3. When you get the pillow form you desire, fold over the top of the outer bag and staple it closed. 4. Add one more line of staples to ensure the seam is secure. 5. Shape the plastic bag pillow form, to the size of an existing pillow form. 6. Place it in the pillow cover. Don't be afraid to press, mold, and shape it to fit your cover like a glove.
