ur working days for the year are getting less and less and with the last minute loose ends still to be concluded, one should not get caught up with the year-end rush without reflecting on the past years’ successes and achievements before leaving on your December holiday. Area Overview: Kalk Bay is an unpretentious bohemian fishing village which lies between the mountains and the sea, and is just 25 minutes' from Cape Town. It is home to one of the last remaining working harbours in South Africa. Not only can you meet the returning boats for the catch of the day at noon, but the little cobbled streets, appealing shops and at least 20 restaurants make this an easy place to while away the time and forget the fast pace of city living. Antique stores, second-hand book shops, art galleries and a thriving theatre have given rise to a real sense of community in Kalk Bay. Originally inhabited by shipwrecked seamen and deserters, the lively village takes its name from lime-burners, who used kilns to extract lime from sea shell deposits to use in building construction. Area Trends and Activity: The demand for property far outweighs the supply and for the lucky ones who manage to obtain a piece of the area are sure to enjoy their own little part of paradise and a very good financial investment. Strand was established as a holiday and fishing resort in 1714. The main beach in the Strand, Melkbaai Beach, is known as one of the best and safest bathing areas in the country. Facilities on or nearby this beach include Waterworld with a super tube and mini-golf and Harmony Park which includes a tidal pool.

The team managed to raise funds in aid of The YOUnity School Build charity, a committee run by Grade 11s from St Peter's College that aims to build 4 classrooms for Thuthuka and Galhanso Primary School. “Children are the most important resource in the world, and absolutely each and every one of them have the right to be educated. HAWS provides welfare services for abandoned, neglected and abused pets as well as farm and wild animals. HAWS also has a sterilisation programme for the animals of less privileged members of our community.

It all started with a community hero who wanted to help his neighbour’s pets. Mr Jo from the Khayelitsha pushed a trolley and water bucket around the community, bathing and feeding community pets. Now it has grown into an organisation providing medical care, sterilisation campaigns, as well as educating the community.

Supporting vulnerable and orphaned children, LIV is change on a large scale. The current 96 homes can house 600 children. To care for each child, they need R1000 per child per month. Be one of the people that unite to rescue, restore and raise these 600 children by donating office equipment, household goods, items for the school, sports facilities and toys.

This Animal Rescue helps dogs and cats that suffer abandonment and the ever present abuse, burns, parasites, starvation, dog fighting, neglect and over breeding. They have sterilised almost 500 dogs and cats so far this year. Earlier this year, with the minor increase in interest rates announced by the Reserve Bank, there was no noticeable decline in the housing demand, which proves that real estate remains your best, secure investment. “The main reason for our success this year, is our hard-working and motivated individuals which we have in our group, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one in our family for making this year such a success. Engel & Völkers saw many changes taking place throughout this year, one of which was the introduction of a new, hands-on training syllabus which is conducted by their in-house training academy. Their head of training, Lara Machado recently returned from her trip to Germany, where she underwent her master trainer course at the Engel & Völkers Group headquarters in Hamburg. Another record was set with 32 successful training sessions concluded this year. They also saw the addition of their new and improved database system being launched, ensuring that clients benefit from optimal opportunities with

numerous automated features to promote sales, as well as the new client service division run by Jodene Boshoff. This new division is available to assist clients at all times - ensuring exceptional customer service is maintained, which is something E&V lives by. “We invite clients to put us to the test with regards to all their property requirements, and believe in an open door policy whereby clients should feel comfortable to contact us should they be unsatisfied with the service they received at any point in time. If this greywater is properly treated it can be recycled and re-used again and again. Greywater is channeled into big containers with a filtration system on the outside of your home. Greywater does not include water from the toilets, kitchen / scullery sinks or dishwasher. Redwater Another form would come from your hot water source in your house. It takes time for the hot water to travel through pipes and for hot water to flow through the tap. While you are not using the hot water tap, the water in the pipes cool down. The next time you need hot water again, this cool water needs to be pushed through the pipes and is washed down the drain before the hot water arrives. This is commonly known as red water. This cool water can be saved by installing a Redwater Diverter which automatically diverts the cool water. This cool water can be reverted to either a rainwater tank, a header tank in the roof to flush the toilets, to the garden or to top up the swimming pool.

Rainwater harvesting Collecting and storing rainwater for later use is an ancient practice. It is still used in many rural places throughout the world, and today it is making a comeback in urban centres as an additional source of water. At its simplest, rainwater harvesting consists of a rain barrel placed under the downspout of your home to collect rainwater for garden irrigation. Larger, more sophisticated, systems can be incorporated into your home’s plumbing system to provide water for a variety of household needs, from toilet flushing to laundry, and even drinking water.

Superstar Britney Spears buys villa through Engel & Völkers 8 hectares of grounds provide for the necessary privacy

ith more than 100 million albums sold in less than ten years, and her own show on the worldfamous Las Vegas strip, Grammy Award winner Britney Spears is one of the most successful singers of all time. The US entertainer has celebrated her success with her most recent purchase of a property in Thousand Oaks in California. License Partner Nicole van Parys and Real Estate Agent, Kevin Nguyen from Engel &Völkers Westlake Village brokered the Mediterranean-style villa to Britney Spears for 7.4 million US dollars, which is equivalent to approximately 101.8 million South African rand. Hollywood stars Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone had the property built originally. The Mediterranean-style villa, was on the market with E&V Westlake Village when Britney Spears' agent contacted the shop. He had seen the property on the landing page of E&V Westlake Village. Ms. Spears was looking for a new home that met her requirements in terms of a very high level of privacy. With over eight hectares of land and two separate entrances, this villa aptly fulfills the criteria.
