Situated on the Roseland peninsula, this Mediterranean garden is surrounded by the sea, with views out over the Lizard. Built in an Italianate style and planted in the style of the great gardens of the Italian Riviera, the intimate four-acre garden winds down the hillside to the sea, and is home to a vast array of palms, tree ferns and subtropical plants. Lamorran Gardens is perched on a south-facing hillside overlooking the sea, having been laid out to maximise its Mediterranean setting. The views here are staggering, in all directions. Your wedding will be set in the ‘Cupola’, with an uninterrupted view of the ocean and the lighthouse as a backdrop. As part of the celebration, drinks and canapés will await you on the terrace afterwards, the perfect way to begin your reception. hat does a luxury holiday mean to you? For most of us it calls to mind the best of the best in terms of location, accommodation and facilities. Whether it’s a stunning hotel set above the cliffs of Cornwall’s wild surf or a high spec self-catered home with all the special features of incredible location coupled with those extra touches like hot tubs and private pools. Whatever luxury means to you, you’re sure to find it within Cornwall’s luxury holiday market and to make your life easier, we’ve weighed up the various differences between luxury hotel and self catered accommodation in Cornwall, so that you can make an educated decision on what sector would suit you when booking your next coastal escape.

Luxury hotels TOP ì Stunning views from the Headland Hotel RIGHT è Enjoy fine dining at its best at the Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa

BELOW ê Make the most of incredible facilities including golf at The Budock Vean

any of Cornwall’s finest hotels are set in breathtaking coastal locations around the county. Take the Headland Hotel for example, which couldn’t be closer to the wild surf of the north coast. The St Mawes Hotel, located on the Roseland peninsula is also situated in a beautiful coastal location in St Mawes village, with surrounding pubs, shops and beaches to explore. Then there are grand hotels such as The Penventon Park Hotel, which is located in a gorgeous rural location surrounded by historic countryside rich with mining history. hen thinking about hotel stays the first thing that comes to mind is indulgence, as the hotel package provides everything you could need for an utterly relaxing escape. Indeed, for many of us it’s the luxury of not having to lift a finger that sways the balance in favour of a hotel stay. Hotels like Merchants Manor and Budock Vean have exceptional onsite spa facilities, gyms and restaurants for you to enjoy. Not to mention that the hotel service means there’s no cleaning or cooking to worry about, so you can make the most of a hassle-free holiday. Room service to me is the ultimate indulgence;

knowing that when you return to your hotel at the end of the day you’ll be greeted by a beautifully made bed and a clean room makes a change to life at home, and it’s the small touches like this that really make you feel like you’re on holiday. Plus, if you don’t want to head to the restaurant, there’s always the glorious option of getting breakfast in bed or a cosy dinner for two in your room. The onsite facilities often also include kids clubs, which The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, and the Polurrian Bay Hotel (page 59) on the Lizard excel at. Located right next to the epic surf of Fistral beach, The Esplanade provides a brilliant selection of kid’s activities, so that you can free up some time to spend with your other half – or maybe even book a relaxing spa treatment. Modern family life can be demanding so being able to take some time to yourself is a real treat. Similarly, the Polurrian offers a truly comprehensive childcare service with two hours of free childcare per day, a free baby listening service and a Sunday morning kids club so that you have the option to curl up under the duvet with your partner, a coffee and a newspaper, for an extra few hours of relaxation. Giving you the luxury of some free time to yourself. Or, if you want a holiday that doesn’t revolve around children, there’s also the option to book into an adult-exclusive hotel. Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa is one such hotel, offering four-star facilities and complete peace and quiet from hectic family life. As the name suggests it also has stunning spa facilities, which will whisk you away to a state of utter calm.

Luxury self-catered accommodation

Cornwall benefits from having a wealth of holiday home companies with some of the Duchy’s most prestigious properties on their books. Spanning everything from idyllic cottages, which you’re sure to find with Cornish Traditional Cottages (page 34) and Forever Cornwall (page 36), to some of the most luxurious and impressive homes available in Cornwall, which Latitude 50 and Perfect Stays have in abundance. Think contemporary cliff-top homes with immaculate interior design and spacious rooms that will induce a sense of serenity and relaxation. As incredible as Cornwall’s hotels are, if you’re looking for something quirky and uni ue you’re sure to find it within the self-catered market. From Cornish cottages overlooking beautiful creeks and coves with Creekside Cottages, to mansions sleeping twenty people, such as Cornish Gems’ property, Rosilian Hall – the diversity of self-catered accommodation makes it a great option for those who want to experience something truly unique and equally for those who have specific re uirements. Take Charteroak for example, who specialise in stunning holiday lodges. Charteroak embraces the renowned Scandinavian way of life that’s all about enhancing wellbeing in beautiful natural surroundings, providing comfort, space and relaxation with rooms that include luxurious saunas and Jacuzzis; it doesn’t get much more indulgent than that.

Latitude50

ABOVE é Sea Edge in Downderry, available through Perfect Stays

One thing that often tips the balance in favour of self-catered accommodation is the beauty of staying in a home from home, allowing you to experience what life as a local is really like (if you happen to be a local with an immaculate and beautifully designed Cornish home, that is!). You can enjoy the convenience of your own kitchen with all the latest high spec appliances, living rooms with flat screen T s and as many bedrooms as necessary. Then there’s the added benefit of private garden space, with the luxury market now also incorporating special features like hot tubs, private pools and high-spec barbeques. There’s also a lot to be said for being able to whip up some cheese on toast if you get peckish, and have a sofa to lounge on and enjoy a glass of wine when the kids have gone to bed, or maybe even sit out on the terrace and watch the sun go down below the rolling surf of the ocean. For a lot of families or friends, it’s the privacy and autonomy of self-catered that makes it so appealing, you can make your own rules, eat when you want and let the kids roam around the house or garden without worrying about disturbing other guests. However, this isolation does mean you have to come up with your own entertainment.

When it comes to choosing a holiday home company to book with, it’s important to bear in mind where you want to be based. Latitude 50 and John Bray Cornish Holidays specialise in properties in north Cornwall find out more about ohn ray Cornish Holidays on page 52), while Padstow Breaks deals exclusively with properties in Padstow, providing unique coastal escapes by the sea. Then there are the companies that have properties throughout Cornwall, so knowing where you want to spend your holiday will help narrow down your search. Many hotels (such as the Polurrian and Budock Vean) are now choosing to capitalise on the influx of holidaymakers who may prefer self-catering accommodation, and in reaction to this are introducing apartments or cottages on hotel grounds, providing families with the privacy and autonomy of self-catered accommodation alongside all the excellent hotel facilities that are just a stone’s throw away.

Then there’s The Oceanic Suite Hotel, which provides the ultimate mix of five-star hotel facilities with stylish apartment living, exclusively for grown ups. Similarly, the self-catered sector are introducing additional luxuries like tailored concierge services and in-house catering options, which Latitude50 offer for their incredible property Carn Mar in Polzeath, so you don’t have to worry about cooking or cleaning dishes while staying in your home from home. So we see a kind of merging between the two accommodation sectors occurring within the market, which nods towards the benefits that both options have and shows that the way forward for luxury accommodation in Cornwall could be to become a hybrid of the convenient luxury of a hotel and the cosy privacy of self-catered accommodation. And whatever you prefer, you’re sure to find it in abundance within Cornwall’s thriving accommodation market.

Limitless VIEWS

Make the most of uninterrupted views with the help of Vantage Balustrades.

W

e are blessed with spectacular coastal and country vistas at every turn in Cornwall, prompting more and more residential and holiday let owners to make the most of their views with features such as balconies, verandas and decks. In order to enhance a property’s connection with the outdoors in this way, there is an increasing focus on how people can maximise their view and avoid awkward posts or rails. This is where the relatively new innovation of frameless balustrade systems comes in, allowing you to appreciate uninterrupted views from the comfort of your sofa, deck chair or dining table. Vantage Balustrades, a frameless balustrade company based in mid Cornwall offers a made-to-measure system to suit your bespoke project – including Juliet balconies, verandas, decks, staircases, even around swimming pools. Using a sleek, engineered aluminium channel system, it’s possible to achieve a seamless look that maximises light and views, without the need for posts, rails or clamps. The channel can be powder coated with any colour to suit your scheme and is fixed to the base with bolts holding glass panels that are secured in place with plastic wedges. Sometimes customers are apprehensive about how safe this is, for example with young children leaning on the glass, but the system is extremely durable; conforming to building regulations in a hardy design that’s just as reliable as posts or rails. Steve Burton, engineer and Managing Director of Vantage Balustrades, is the brains behind this innovative new system: “My aim was to achieve a high-end finish with easy installation,” Steve tells us. To this end, the company recently launched Solus, an exciting new design that can be easily installed by homeowners or your builder. “We can also recommend experienced local installers,” explains Steve. Vantage Balustrades is a small, local and friendly company with a vast knowledge of the industry. The team are at the end of the phone or email to offer design and technical advice from the word ‘go’ and love helping customers bring their projects to life.

S

tudio One South West are a bathroom, wet room and tiling company based in Plymouth, providing you with everything needed to finish the home of your dreams with designs that will take your breath away. One of the most recent projects they were involved in resulted in them creating stunning bathrooms and tiling to a seaside south west property. The Studio One team played an integral role in the creation of all bathrooms, some hallways and even fireplace design for this property, maintaining a synergy between tile design and the surrounding coastal environment throughout the house. The owners, interior designers and the main contractors for this new build not only wanted someone they could rely on to supply them with high quality bathroom and tile products for the whole house, but a company that was capable of taking care of everything else too; from the consultation stage, right through to the high-end installation that was required for this truly bespoke project. We hear from Studio One owner Mark, who tells us: “We worked with the designers of this project, Cornish Interiors, from the

initial consultation stage right through to completion. During the consultation we looked at the designs and how we could use the best selection of products to help us achieve our goals. We then supplied the materials and installed them to the highest possible standard, ensuring that the bathrooms, wetrooms and cloakrooms met the highest quality to match that of the rest of the property. Further tiling to the conservatory, kitchen and dining areas as well as the entrance hall, landing, stunning curved staircase and the

feature tiled fireplace were supplied and installed. Our years of specialist tiling expertise was utilised completely for this project, where we could really show our strengths using a range of tile materials and techniques to tile the entire house.” Their expert tilers worked with quality products ranging from 12mm to 30mm natural stone tiles, through to porcelain, all of which resulted in a finish that is second to none. Exceptional knowledge in wet room construction came to the forefront when Studio One were asked to incorporate stunning wet room designs throughout the property. Bespoke custom drain bodies were positioned against the walls so that large format tiles could be laid in one direction to give the best design and look to the rooms. hen discussing the finer details of the installation, Mark tells us: “The brassware to the bathrooms were brushed nickel to give a luxurious feel and the built in cistern flush plates had the same finish. etailed back lighting behind the toilets and bespoke mirrors gave a warm and inviting feel to the rooms, which is what we were after. Not to mention the underfloor heating to all the rooms including the shower areas, built in mirror

cabinets, freestanding baths and basins and uality fixtures and fittings that all helped to make this one stunning house.” It’s clear to see that Studio One have excelled with this project, rising to the brief and challenges in design and creating synergy throughout the home, incorporating different stone textures and adding in details that make the project stand out as nothing short of remarkable. So, if you’re looking for a company to help transform your home, then you know you’ll be in safe hands with the expert team at Studio One South West.

ast year, we caught up with owner of Bodrugan, Sally, who explained how they’d decided to meet the increasing demand for high-standard glamping accommodation. The result, as we learned, was stunning, with the site’s beautiful Wigwams already proving a big hit. These wonderfully warm camping cabins sit beautifully in the countryside and the wider site is home to Sally and husband Tim’s sheep and Dexter cattle, making this a real escape to the country! But it’s not just the Wigwams that have garnered such a fantastic reputation for Bodrugan. The site is also home to some stunning self-catering cottages, sleeping up to eight. These are perfect if you’re looking for that ‘home from home’ escape to Cornwall, and being located so close to the Roseland Heritage Coast, they make the perfect base from which to explore everything that this beautiful pocket of Cornwall has to offer. And, with sumptuous bedrooms, modern living spaces and well-equipped kitchens, you can work up the heartiest of sea-air appetites before heading back to base and cooking up a storm using the freshest local produce. For several years Bodrugan has liaised with many art and textile tutors who bring groups of enthusiastic learners to use the accommodation and stretch their creative imagination in the studio space. This year they are thrilled that they can now offer a new studio with underfloor heating and a treatment room to offer other disciplines such as yoga, well-being, writing and other activities. For those days where you simply want to relax, Bodrugan have books and games to

borrow, films to watch, or wander down through the farm to a secluded cove and follow the coastal path where you can really be at ease and settle into the pace of life by the sea. Raising their own lamb and supplying to Waitrose, there’s a keen focus on farming at Bodrugan. Sally explains: “The best thing is talking to people and communicating to them about food provenance, farming and how the countryside works. There’s so much interest – our guests love the idea of a farm and like to know more about the way we operate. A big bonus of having people on your land is that you get to learn what happens beyond the Tamar, and it’s vital to keep up with changing viewpoints and to understand what people want from a holiday. “At Bodrugan, they get great views, walking, beaches, comfortable, en-suite glamping cabins with firepits, outdoor furniture and a car-free site small enough for children to be left to explore. If it rains, they can use our heated indoor pool and sauna, and when tired children go to sleep, parents can enjoy a drink on the deck as they watch the ocean.” That certainly sounds like bliss to us!

REACH YOUR LETTING

l a i t n e t po

With Cornwall’s staycation market only set to grow, we ask George at Cornish Traditional Cottages for his top holiday home tips.

O

nce your property is ‘out there’, George explains: “enquiries should start to come in. Although not all of them will result in a booking, you should treat them all as potential guests. This means responding professionally and promptly. Always aim for a maximum of a few hours, same day if you can. Go that extra mile by offering extra information, or try to accommodate people by suggesting alternative arrangements if your property can’t cater for them on their chosen dates.” The next key moment is when your guests arrive. “You may like to organise a personal meet-and-greet. This gives you the chance to get to know them, introduce them to your holiday home and answer any questions in person. If this isn’t practical or desirable, make sure you’ve provided clear instructions to make the arrival process as simple as possible.” Next, it’s time to get their feedback. “This is crucial. You could keep a guestbook in a clearly visible place and add a note to the front cover asking guests to write their comments. Afterwards, type them out and include them in an email to your guest, asking for permission to use it on your website and/ or marketing material.” As much as you’d love to read glowing comments from start to finish, the reality is that reviews rarely rave all the time, so it’s important to know how to respond. “Check

regularly for new reviews and respond as soon as you can. Always respond to a review, no matter how glowing (or otherwise) it is, and always start by thanking the reviewer.” George also recommends keeping the reply concise, while addressing all points. “Negative comments should be taken with a pinch of salt,” he stresses. “Remember, this isn’t about you; it’s about a holiday home. Give yourself a day before replying to negative reviews, to stop feeling angry or hurt, and use the feedback to your advantage. Amend faults and improve on shortcomings so that future guests benefit, then let them know what you’ve done.” Cornish Traditional Cottages have a deep wealth of knowledge when it comes to making holiday home rentals a success, so if you’re just starting out or are looking for advice to improve, why not give George and the team a call?

rom the warm plains of Maryland, USA, to the cold coastal villages of Cornwall, follow handsome and hopeful US 29th Infantry Division Technical Sergeant, Joe Miller, on his poignant journey to the Nazi-occupied beaches of Normandy, France. Based on remarkable real wartime experiences, as well as stories recalled by the residents of Mawnan Smith, Operation Neptune commemorates the 75th anniversary of D-Day with the compelling story of an American GI’s experience of Cornwall at war. The performance is directed by Guy Watson, Cornish director and Artistic Director of Cousin Jack’s – the company behind the much-loved stage adaptation of The Mousehole Cat. Written by awardwinning script writer Charlotte O’Leary, Operation Neptune will star many local faces, including Bec Applebee (Kneehigh Theatre), Rory Wilton (from BBC’s Poldark and the Fisherman’s Friends’ recent feature film , Will Coleman (Golden Tree Productions’ Man Engine) and Emily Woodman

(O-region’s Hireth). ). Trebah Garden will also be introducing acclaimed actor, Oliver Longstaff, to the county, playing the part of the handsome American hero. The cast will also feature a local community choir and a supporting cast drawn from Hall for Cornwall Youth Theatre and Youth Dance. Operation Neptune is an epic promenade show performed across Trebah Garden, based on the true stories from the thousands of US troops who left from Trebah’s beach to play their role in the D-Day invasion of France. Performed every evening from Tuesday 11th until Saturday 15th June at 7pm, tickets are priced at £16 for adults and £8 for children under 16. The performance takes place on foot around the garden. If you have any queries about accessibility, be sure to call the team directly.

he countdown to the summer season has begun here in Cornwall and we think that now is the ideal time to visit our stunning north coast to enjoy a seaside holiday. This time of year sees the best of Cornwall’s famous sub-tropical weather and warm sunshine, and the abundance of restaurants in north Cornwall are now opening fully for the holiday season. So, after a day’s exploring, or taking advantage of the many outdoor sports on offer, you can enjoy some tasty treats as the sun sets across the Atlantic ocean. Whether it’s a beachfront pad, a romantic cottage just for two, a countryside retreat where the children can explore the grounds or a luxurious family holiday home with jaw-dropping sea views, each and every one of the private homes within the John Bray Cornish Holidays portfolio is unique. And if you’ve got a four-legged member of the family then there is a choice of 150 properties where you can bring your family pet along with you. With 280 miles of the South West Coast Path to explore, whilst admiring the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the way, exploring the north Cornwall coastline is made that little bit more special when you can enjoy it with your canine companion. A number of beaches on the north Cornish coast are dog friendly, including Rock beach,

Daymer Bay and Port Isaac. They are also horse-friendly so equine enthusiasts can enjoy a canter across the bay at low tide before taking a paddle in the waves. And once you’ve finished exploring the coastline, why not take the ferry from Rock to Padstow? Here you can enjoy some local delicacies and a spot of retail therapy. You can also hire a bicycle from Padstow and pick up the Camel Trail which leads you to the next town, Wadebridge and beyond. If your idea of the perfect holiday involves the water then you’re in for a real treat. There are so many ocean activities to choose from, with Rock being one of the major water-sport hubs in Cornwall. You’ll find sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and rowing on offer, or hire a paddle board for some great exercise on the calm waters of the Camel Estuary. If riding the waves is more your style, Polzeath boasts one of the best surfing beaches in the country and is a haven for surfers, body boarders and paddle boarders alike. Its golden sands, along with nearby Daymer Bay, lend themselves to sun worshipers. There’s nothing quite like a Cornish beach day, soaking up the rays and playing some beach games with the family before taking advantage of the surrounding cafés – here you can really make a day of it.

nce you have had your fill of the fresh Cornish air, rinsed off your sandy toes and sun-kissed skin, then there are plenty of restaurants to sample. This unique corner of north Cornwall has a plethora of Michelin stars, so foodies are more than catered for. Top chefs Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth and Nathan Outlaw, to name but a few, have all embraced the area, inspired by its natural bounty. If you prefer your dining a little more laid back, then there are copious cool cafés and beach bars to be discovered. And there’s always a beach barbe ue or some Cornish fish and chips to indulge in. A holiday in north Cornwall demands a slower pace of life, where the morning commute is just a gentle stroll across the beach, or a short water taxi ride. Port Isaac, home of the film set for television series, Doc Martin, as well as the recent feature film, Fisherman's Friends, is a lovely place to take a stroll, enjoying its many galleries and shops. A Cornish holiday is a chance to unplug from everyday life, to relax and enjoy quiet beach days, laze in a hot tub, play family games in the comfort of your holiday home and recapture that elusive family getaway – winding the clock back to a simpler time, away from the hustle, bustle and technology that’s become an unavoidable part of modern life. Sound good? Then all that’s left for you to decide is where to stay and thankfully, the team at John Bray Cornish Holidays can help you every step of the way – from booking your stay to suggesting an itinerary for an actionpacked holiday. With over 48 years' experience and a choice of over 330 properties, you can be sure that John Bray Cornish Holidays has the holiday home of your dreams, just waiting to be discovered, whatever the occasion.

THE RECUMBENT

You may have seen them from time to time in Falmouth, whizzing past and leaving you thinking ‘what’s that?’ Chances are it’s an ICE trike.

W

DID YOU KNOW? Powerful electric motors let you explore more, ride further and faster without even breaking a sweat. Electric Assist makes trike riding even more accessible and inclusive for all kinds of cyclists!

e catch up with Phil, from ICE’s Design and Marketing team, to find out more about the world of recumbent cycling. ICE has led the trike industry since 1999, making, designing, and pioneering in Falmouth, Cornwall most of what you’ll see in today’s recumbent industry. ut why ride recumbent trikes ell, hil explains, They are a relaxed, e cient, stable, fun and very comfortable way to cycle iding a trike, for someone who has not ridden a bike or thought they never could again, can really change their lives. In fact, some test riders get quite emotional when they realise they can ride again. New riders always return from a test ride with a huge smile on their face.” ith a trike, hil continues There’s less impact on your neck, back, shoulders and, most importantly, your bottom, as there is no narrow saddle involved. n a regular bike you need padded shorts, gel seats and you’ll still end up walking like a cowboy at the end of your ride ot so with our

TOP TIP Whilst the ICE team always recommends riding with a flag on the roads, their riders tell us that when trike riding, you get much more room on the road than you do riding a regular bike. You look different to other cyclists so motorists tend to give you a much wider berth.

trikes. Trikes are great for physical fitness and in ury rehabilitation too, and are adaptable for any number of uses, whether you’re going on a touring adventure, an expedition, even commuting Since 1999, ICE has made its mark around the world with a range of trikes catering to different riders’ needs. Phil elaborates ome trikes are very uick, sporty and race orientated, ideal for the road bike riders who want something different but fast. e also have other sports touring models, for those who still want to cruise the open road but are in search of practicality, features and comfort.” e points us to the print Tour model, which, with its sporty ride, comfort and medium height seat position, is incredibly versatile. Indeed, whether you’re carving bends, pushing your speed, or on a long distance tour, the print Tour is one for all seasons. Then there are ICE’s Adventure touring trikes. These, hil tells us, are still sporty, but offer more of an upright seating position, making them a great choice for long distance cycle touring. The Adventure model combines rugged looks with unrivalled practicality and comfort, and it’s primed for cruising the open road, discovering hidden trails and, as hil puts it, exploring new hori ons. If you’re hoping to explore Cornwall’s country roads during a weekend ride, with a rider weight limit of kg, the Adventure is for you. ext we have the ‘Full Fat’ ICE’s expedition level, off-road, ‘go anywhere’ trike. This is where things get really interesting (as if they weren’t already when we say ‘go anywhere’, we really mean it. In fact, in 2013, Maria ei erstam on a Full Fat trike became the first person in the world to cycle to the outh ole from the edge of Antarctica, covering over km The record still stands today. Relax on

THE ROSELAND With its beautiful surroundings, the Rosevine Hotel is the perfect place for a Cornish coastal getaway.

S

ituated on the stunning Roseland peninsula, renowned as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; the Rosevine Hotel provides a truly mesmerising base from which to explore this captivating corner of Cornwall. The boutique apart-hotel is set within a Georgian family house and boasts spacious apartment rooms for family, friends and couples to enjoy alongside the hotel’s facilities, which include an indoor heated pool and a restaurant with magnificent views onto the manicured lawns. Rooms here are unlike a regular hotel as each one is designed as its own self-contained apartment, so you have the space and flexibility to relax in absolute comfort. In addition there are also a variety of shared spaces within the main house, that include a ‘grown ups’ drawing room, complete with comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove, as well as a children’s play room just next door that is packed full of games, books and DVDs. There are 15 elegant self-contained apartments in total, as well as a choice of studios and even a four bedroom self-catering house available for your stay. Why not choose a sea view room and wake up to the call of the ocean? Or enjoy a coffee with your loved ones on the balcony and plan the day’s adventures – it doesn’t get much better than that. There’s a safe, sandy beach just a short stroll from the hotel which is just one of a number of beautiful beaches and hidden coves that pepper the peninsula. If you want to adventure further afield then one of the best ways to enjoy the area is to travel by boat – take a ferry tour down the river Fal or hop aboard the passenger ferry to discover the eclectic streets of the harbourside town of Falmouth or the charm of the village of St Mawes. After a day’s exploration of the stunning Roseland peninsula, you can look forward to returning to a delicious meal in the Rosevine’s Michelin Guide restaurant. The menu is inspired by the abundance of quality, local seasonal produce from fresh lobster, that can be enjoyed al fresco on a warm summer evening, to a traditional Sunday lunch served in the warmth of the restaurant.

DISCOVER MORE The Rosevine has a private dining room which was recently voted in the ‘Top 5 Best Private Dining Rooms’ by the Financial Times and can be exclusively booked for special occasions, family get togethers or weddings.

ABOVE é ì Stay in elegant coastal style at this boutique coastal hotel

P

rivately owned in an exquisite hideaway with sweeping Camel Estuary views, this chic, boutique hotel is but a stone’s throw from the beach and the passenger ferry to Padstow, making it the perfect base from which to discover everything that the north coast has to offer. The hotel offers 20 double rooms, including four luxurious suites. Many of these have breathtaking coastal views and every last one is designed to help you relax and unwind, decorated in bright colours with quirky and original oil paintings on the walls. St Enodoc also has its own restaurant. In the summer, food can be enjoyed al fresco on the terrace overlooking the estuary. If you’re staying, you can roll out of your sumptuous bed at your own leisure, head downstairs and enjoy breakfast in the sunshine. In the evenings, why not try one of the team’s tempting cocktails as the sun sets? The kitchen has the Cornish larder at its disposal, with specials ranging from Porthilly oysters, to fish and lobster landed in adstow. For many of us, a trip away just isn’t the same without our four-legged friend in tow. The St Enodoc team know this, which is why they’re pleased to announce their new dog-

friendly status! Big or small, furry friends are welcome and, with an abundance of great walks in the region, visitors and locals alike can now enjoy a welcome pit stop for lunch, dinner or a quick drink on the terrace with their dog. In fact, the team are so passionate about being dog friendly that they’ve also created a dedicated ‘Dog Dinner’ menu, as well as room service for resident hounds, bringing a whole new meaning to ‘a dog’s life’! This means that whether you’re a local or looking for a dog-friendly stay, St Enodoc Hotel is the perfect stop for you and your waggy tailed companion. Finally, as if all this were not enough, guests here can also indulge in some proper ‘me’ time with a day (or two) in the St Enodoc Spa. Situated in a quiet corner of the main house, it’s everything you’d expect from a Cornish spa, with a friendly and fully- ualified team going above and beyond to ensure you leave feeling pampered and invigorated.

A golden

OPPORTUNITY Live your later life in style with Blue Cedar Homes – creating exclusive, luxury properties for your retirement.

F

or many of us, the prospect of enjoying our later years in a beautiful home and surroundings is certainly at the top of the bucket list. Whether it’s simply a matter of moving house or even moving to a different county, finding the right home in which to enjoy your golden years is really important and here at Cornwall Living, we’ve discovered a company who are experts at creating wonderful homes with the older generation in mind. Blue Cedar Homes specialise in creating small developments of luxury homes where those over 55 can lead the later life they desire. We hear from Managing Director, Nick Hole, who tells us: “While many homeowners approaching retirement plan to ‘rightsize’ to a low-maintenance property that can cater for their changing needs, buyers do not, and should not have to compromise on quality or location.” Blue Cedar Homes' developments are located in the most desirable towns and villages, from coast to country, and typically include 10-15 detached freehold properties. Every scheme features bespoke property designs, carefully crafted to blend with the local architecture and landscape, and each as individual as the people who choose it. Renowned for their blend of practicality, quality and unrivalled attention to detail, the exclusive properties have fully-fitted kitchens, elegant bathrooms,

well-planned layouts, and generously sized rooms that can be easily adapted in the future. Furthermore, every development is cared for by a local Estate Manager who undertakes gardening, waste management and some external property maintenance. They look after the attractive landscaped garden and summerhouse that are the focus of each scheme and even keep an eye on properties, whether owners are home or away, making a Blue Cedar Homes property the perfect lock-up-and-leave prospect. Unlike most age-exclusive developments, these are freehold rather than leasehold, and Blue Cedar Homes is also unusual in not imposing financial penalties on buyers if alterations are made to the property or if they sell up. With so many opportunities to enjoy an active and independent retirement in some of the UK’s most attractive and convenient locations, there has never been a better time to step into later life in style.

There are only a few spaces left for the October event that will start from the magnificent rideaux lace in adstow, and end at the Chateau des duc de Bretagne. The Chateau is the jewel at the heart of Nantes. Enclosed by fortress walls and surrounded by its own moat, it’s imposing yet welcoming. It’s where Cornwall ospice Care’s cyclists will celebrate the end of what promises to be an ama ing adventure, when they ride into the walled courtyard four days after leaving Cornwall. The planned 280-mile route explores the beauty of Cornwall on day one, before an overnight ferry crossing to France where the challenge features much of the famous La Velodyssée – the Atlantic cycling route – as the team head south. Cornwall Hospice Care’s ead of Fundraising, li oare, tells us: “This bespoke adventure follows on from our hugely successful Mount to Mont cycle in , and will provide our cyclists with fantastic views over adstow before we head
