PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
We are now calling for nominations for the 2012 Engineering Excellence Awards. These awards provide the opportunity for consultants, contractors and clients to showcase the remarkable projects that are undertaken by South Australian Engineers. Last year’s winners demonstrated innovation in design, delivery and management of projects, which produced outstanding outcomes for clients and end users alike. These awards provide the opportunity to demonstrate how better engineering can deliver better outcomes. The projects don’t need to be the biggest, rather an opportunity to demonstrate how engineers can see how to solve complex problems with simplicity and elegance. I am confident that South Australia’s engineers have done some remarkable projects over the past year and I look forward to being able to celebrate the achievement of engineers on Friday 21st September 2012 at the South Australia Engineering Excellence Awards. Project and Individual winners from these awards will automatically be entered in the National Engineering Excellence Awards. These awards are the pinnacle of engineering excellence in Australia and to be nominated for these awards is an achievement in itself, but I am sure we can do much more than that. Details for how to enter the awards are included in this booklet. I encourage all engineers to put on display the projects that they are proud of and I look forward to seeing you all on the night.
CHIEF JUDGE’S MESSAGE
The South Australian Engineering Excellence Awards recognise projects and the personal achievement of outstanding engineers, engineering technologists and engineering officers. The project entries in the 2011 Excellence Awards covered a diverse range of engineering work - from the new Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand to the remediation of a small lake in the South East. The high standard of these two and the twenty-five other entries gave the judges plenty to consider. Both the aforementioned projects were found to be worthy of an excellence award, which highlights the opportunity for recognition for projects across the full range of engineering endeavours. That could range, for instance, from micro electronics to heavy construction and everything in between. Elegant engineering solutions are highly regarded by the judges, who are looking forward to the task ahead. I am looking forward to receiving the entries for 2012. You can be sure that each entry will receive every consideration. Ross Milton FIEAust CPEng (Retired) Chief Judge
