AEW 2011: Engineering A Better World The Australian Engineering Week 2011 will run from August 1-7, this will be the time of year where the engineering community comes together to celebrate their profession. The week is designed to demonstrate what engineering is all about and show how engineering plays a major part in everyday life. Every time you use wi-fi, mow the lawn, find a location on Google maps or make a photocopy, you are putting to practice the work of an engineer. These are just a very small number of examples where Australian engineers have had a great impact on the world and how we live. This year, The Year of Humanitarian Engineering, we praise the work and efforts of countless Australian engineers working for the betterment of the lives of others. It is a clear example of how engineering is really about people first and things second. The AEW program for 2011 aims to bring an array of events for school students inquisitive about what engineering is, university students deciding what branch of engineering is right for them and for the professional engineer wanting to participate and share their work. Above all, we wish to increase the awareness and understanding of engineering through these events to the general public. There are over 30 events held around Sydney and NSW and I encourage you to view event details listed below, browse the website and AEW schedule. In order to “Make it So it takes teams of engineers with varied experiences and the collaboration with other professions. I would like to personally thank all volunteers for their enthusiasm and time dedicated to making AEW possible. I would also like to thank Engineers Australia, all our great sponsors, participating companies and those of you who will take part in AEW. I invite you to take part in AEW and find an event/s that are of interest to you. I also encourage you to ask as many questions as possible during the week, as engineers love sharing their experience about how things work. Have a great week and never stop asking why?
