CAT Projects took out the Sir William Hudson Award for engineering excellence with its Bushlight India project at the 2011 Engineering Excellence Awards held in the Great Hall of Parliament in Canberra on 23rd November 2011. Bushlight India powers remote Indian Villages with 24/7 electricity and this small Alice Springs based aboriginal engineering firm was selected from over 50 national finalists to win the prestigious Award. CAT Projects believes the Bushlight India Model could be used in over 150,000 remote villages in India alone with more in the developing world. Lyndon Frearson, Michael Tuckwell, Paul Rodden and Grant Brehrendorff accepted the Award on behalf of CAT Projects. CAT Inc Chairman, Peter Rehenhan said “the knowledge and capability used for this project was developed by working with aboriginal people in remote areas, and it’s fantastic to see it being shared internationally to benefit other indigenous peoples”. This is a remarkable achievement for a small engineering firm based in Central Australia considering the quality of other finalists in the Awards.
