EDITORIAL A MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR Greetings Warlords, Stepping into my role as editor in chief alongside Jaeson Hunter and the other directors of the SOE Council was no easy feat in 2020. It began with everyone being whisked away from campus at a time when we should have been learning the nuances of our new roles. Then came the challenges of creating content during a global pandemic. All in all, we are all learning to adapt and navigate through the troubles this pandemic has brought upon us all. With that being said, I hope you enjoy this issue, just as much as the team and I enjoyed creating it for you. Best Regards, Matthew Green

o demonstrate that God is foremost in everything, the school of Engineering's council has put in place the initiative of starting every new academic year with a spiritual event. Therefore the Spiritual Committee executed Raise the Praise with this in mind.
Originally plans were to have a physical event but nearing the date it became apparent that it would not be possible as a result of the pandemic. Raise the praise was restructured as an online event which was held via the zoom platform. Next was to get everything ready for the event: confirm persons on the program, acquire musicians and equipment, choose a venue, etc.
Fast forward to September 17th, and Raise the Praise is only a few hours away. All participants had arrived as the clock hands moved toward 3pm. The event started off with some beautiful praise and worship from the worship team lead by Meloney, with Yaswah and Kharece as her support. They began with a few lively choruses to set the mood for the rest of the event. Next was David Smith with the national anthem followed by Henry, who opened with prayer and reading of the theme Scripture (Psalms 150). The worship team was once more invited on stage to sing singing “Praises onto God, with the musicians keeping up the energy, creating an exciting spiritual vibe, engine style. Our speaker, Sir Frater, captivated the audience as he delivered his sermon. Starting at Psalm 150:1, he exhorted that we must praise God and find pleasure in doing so even amid difficult times. He spoke on how Christ has kept us to this point and so he ought to be worshipped with gladness and rejoicing. The audience was moved by his word that came across as both powerful and humorous. He invited all who were willing, to Christ and later left the audience with a prayer. As the worship closed the event, Raise the praise concluded with music from our talented musicians accompanied by songs of rejoicing from the worship team.

D
espite only 19 participants in attendance on zoom, the service was impactful. The theme for this specially hosted event was “You don't have to carry your burdens alone”.
The scriptures read came from Matthew 11:28-30. The message delivered spoke about our many burdens to carry in life such as schoolwork, family, and relationship issues, however, the greatest burden emphasized throughout the sermon was sin. Jesus demonstrated his love for us and sacrificed his own life to free us from the greatest burden. The Spiritual Director, David Smith had this to say about the service, “God's help makes all things possible, he gives us the ability to do anything. He guided this devotion plan and it was a success because of Him”. TESTIMONIES God Can Supply Your Needs: “My tuition for this semester was paid for on the census date by a scholarship that was previously cancelled. ” ~Anonymous God Finds a Way: “After being unable to complete my assignments because of a program that would not download I was given an extension and additional time to complete my assignment.” ~Anonymous OCTOBER 26,2020
Another low turn out this devotion, however this virtual devotion was very active and full of vibes. The Theme for this engine devotion was “What is Love (the characteristics of love)”. The scripture readings came from 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, Proverbs 4:7, Matt 22:36-40 and Luke 23:10. The message that was delivered is that we should love everyone, it does not matter if they treat us harshly or have done us wrong. Jesus Christ taught us how to love. He died for us and he did not hate the persons that did him wrong. We can only truly love by the power of God through Jesus Christ. TESTIMONIES The presenter, whose name is withheld, testified that she has been sharing a home with her sister for years. She neither harmed nor spoke ill of her sister yet she was treated badly and even cursed by her. She continued to tell the audience that she despite this, she continues to treat her sister with respect and love.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENT “School has been hard for most of us, the time has flown by and we are already midsemester”, the speaker said. ”But where do you find yourself? Are you: understanding the content? Satisfied with your performance? Are you stable in your mind? Have you made time for God in your schedule?” The speaker reminds us race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong. He continued, “wherever you are don't give up, don't doubt yourself or throw in the towel. Fight! Endure the challenges that come now, make the sacrifices now to live satisfied later. Nothing comes easy but if you remain determined and diligence you can finish well and achieve all your aspirations. But in all things we need the help and guidance of God to overcome. When doubts come, when you start to worry, pray. God cares about your progress in the semester and throughout life. He will help you if only you will ask and acknowledge him.” PERSONAL TESTIMONY “I had a slow start first year which resulted in me starting 3 weeks late in one of the most difficult courses, B.Eng Math2. It was hard playing catch up especially with how fast the lecturer was going, but God remained consistent, helping me along and surrounding me with people who could help. At the end of that semester I was among the top achievers, one of only seven students who passed the course of a class of 20+.” -David Smith
