FIL World Lacrosse The FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup will be the largest elite women’s sporting event in the UK in 2017 and it will be, by some margin, the largest Women’s Lacrosse World Cup ever. The 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup will be the tenth in the series, the third to be hosted by England and will have up to 25 teams participating – nearly half as big again as the 2013 event on Oshawa, Canada. As an event it has grown slowly over the 35 years since its inception, in 1982, when England hosted six countries (Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, United States and Wales) at the inaugural World Cup in Nottingham. In addition to the main World event, it has become tradition to host a World Festival of Lacrosse for travelling community teams to compete in. The 2017 World Festival will welcome over 500 lacrosse players to compete in the auxiliary event. The FIL Rathbones Women’s World Lacrosse Cup will be hosted at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford between July 12th and 22nd 2017. The current World Champions are Team USA. They defeated Canada by 19-5 in Ontario 2013.
Federation of International Lacrosse The Federation Of International Lacrosse has a vision for Lacrosse to be played world-wide and achieve Olympic inclusion. Geographic development of Lacrosse has steadily increased over recent years. New Lacrosse playing nations include, Uganda and Israel. The Federation of International Lacrosse has recently been appointed a member of SportAccord and included in the International World Games Association

England will attract a strong home crowd. Other top nations such as USA, Australia, Canada and Japan will deliver travelling supporters.

The 2017 STX FANFEST area will be open to the public, not just World Cup spectators. This will extend the exposure of the area to 10,000 Surrey Sports Park visitors each week. The FanFest will allow spectators and bystanders the opportunity to experience a taste of the 2017 World Cup. The 2017 FANFEST will be situated over a foot print of 20m2. This area will provide members of the public and 2017 World Cup spectators the opportunity to experience the Lacrosse World Cup. Official FanFest partner STX will deliver a lacrosse experience in their retail outlet, official merchandise partner FBT will provide an extensive Official 2017 merchandise range. Guildford Fringe Festival will host a stage within the 2017 FanFest providing alternative entertainment. Champneys will offer massages and treatment for weary spectators.

FAN FEST 2017 Vending Opportunities 2017 FANFEST will present vendors with the opportunity to reach over 1000 World Cup fans per day and 10,000 SSP members per
week.

Surrey Sports Park was opened as part of a multimillion pound re-development of the University of Surrey, the facility has become one of the UK’s premier sporting venues with an exceptional track record of hosting high profile events. Committed to bringing world-class athletes to Guildford by hosting international and national events. English Lacrosse has been working closely with SSP on a range of events, including the 2017 FIL Rathbones Women’s Lacrosse World Cup. Surrey Sports Park played an important role during the 2012 Olympic games by hosting 16 Olympic and Paralympic teams for pre-games training teams. Surrey also house Aviva Premiership Rugby side Harlequins, ZEO Superleague netball team Surrey Storm and professional British Basketball League Club Surrey Scorchers.
Surrey Sports Park hosted the World Rugby Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2010.
