Storm Drain Art Contest Posted

Free Bible School Set

The Master Watershed Stewards in York are partnering with the City of York, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association and the Watershed Alliance of York to launch the Street 2 Creek Project, a project to raise awareness about stormwater runoff and the negative impacts it can have on waterways. The project will help raise water pollution awareness using street art. A contest will invite artists to paint environmentally themed murals around storm drains in downtown York. Each storm drain will tell a story so people stop and think about where the water flows after it enters the storm drain. Each participant must submit their original design to drainart.york@ gmail.com by Friday, July 20. Individuals must include their name, address, phone number, and email address with the submitted artwork. Artists will then be selected by a panel of local artists and community leaders. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place. The goal is to have three storm drains painted by Friday, Aug. 24, so they can be seen during Yorkfest on Aug. 25

Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 1907 Hollywood Drive, York, will host a free vacation Bible school program, “God’s Good Creation,” from Monday, July 30, through Thursday, Aug. 2. A free, childfriendly dinner will be served each evening at 5:30 p.m., and the program will run from 6 to 8 p.m.

Financial Peace University Set SpiriTrust Lutheran Financial Education and Coaching will accept registrations for Financial Peace University, an educational program in which participants learn lessons to help get out of debt and save money. The nineweek biblically based curriculum will be held at the SpiriTrust Lutheran office, 907 Roosevelt Ave., York. The workshop will be held for nine consecutive weeks and will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 1. Two different time periods will be offered, including from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Participants may choose the time period that best suits their schedule. There is a cost for a participant kit per individual or couple. For more information or to register, readers may call 717-852-4357 by Friday, July 20.
