York Habitat for Humanity will begin hosting information sessions for potential new homeowners. Recently, the number of York County families looking for home applications has increased six-fold, so York Habitat has developed a new way to assist families as quickly as possible. To achieve this goal, York Habitat for Humanity will hold three information sessions each month. The sessions, which will host several families at one time, will be varied time-wise with one each in the morning, afternoon, and evening. This will help to
accommodate a variety of different employment schedules. The sessions will dive into the application particulars and explain the criteria that is needed to become a Habitat homeowner. Everything from required income levels to family participation in sweat equity hours will be on the two-hour meeting agenda. To sign up for these sessions, readers may visit www.york habitat.org and then click on Upcoming Events. For questions and more information, readers may contact Mark Mattern at 717-854-6168, ext. 102, or amanda@yorkhabitat.org.

School Group Donates Funds To H.O.P.E. Miranda Shaffer (right) presented a check for $400 to Barbara Titanish, president and cofounder of H.O.P.E., on May 25. The funds are 50 percent of giveaway drawing proceeds from the school’s production of “Big Fish.” Susquehannock High School Theatre recently donated $400 to Help for Oncology Problems and Emotional Support (H.O.P.E.). The funds are 50 percent of giveaway drawing proceeds from the school’s production of “Big Fish,” a musical that relates to cancer. Shows took place on April 13, 14, and 15. Stage manager and student
director Miranda Shaffer asked H.O.P.E. to be involved in the event. Several H.O.P.E. volunteers were stationed in the lobby to offer information and answer questions. Sailors Clean Up Roadside
Sailors assigned to Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Business Systems Center (BSC) participated in an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup project in Mechanicsburg on May 11. For more than 10 years, NAVSUP BSC sailors have cleaned up a 2-mile section of Sporting Hill Road just outside the Naval Support Activity in Mechanicsburg. The Adopt-A-Highway initiative is part of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) roadside beautification program through which volunteers collect roadside trash and debris. To learn more about NAVSUP BSC, readers may visit www.navsup.navy.mil/public/navsup/bsc/.
