Scout Constructs Collection Boxes As Service Project Nicholas Spangler, a member of Scout Troop 67, recently spearheaded the construction of three eyeglass collection boxes for his Eagle Project. The boxes are located at the Dover Borough Office Building on Butter Road, at Dover Fire Hall on East Canal Street, and at the Dover Township Building on West Canal Road. Nick chose this project with the help of a friend, knowing that the Dover Lions Club collects eyeglasses for reuse. Nick and his father started with lockable mailboxes, and Nick retrofitted them for his project, including fabricating the parts, sanding, painting, and applying decals. Dover Scout Troop 67 is chartered by Dover Lions Club, and the two organizations work together throughout the year. Nick is a 2018 Dover High School graduate and is slated to attend Elizabethtown College to study international business.

Family Fun Day To Include Quilt Giveaway Red Land Community Library will give away a quilt in a drawing as part of Family Fun Day on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The quilt was made by Barb Leese, Mary Ann McAllister, and fellow quilters. The group meets on Tuesday mornings when the library is closed. The members have spent approximately six months working on each quilt they have made over the past several years. According to
Leese, at least 35 quilts have been made to support Red Land Community Library. At one time, eight sewers worked around the antique quilting frame. The quilt to be given away at Family Fun Day features a top sewn by one of the former quilters, Evelyn Beinhauer, who is now deceased. Beinhauer’s piecework was well-known throughout the area. The 80-by-84-inch signed quilt is also the last one that was
stitched at the former Red Land Community Library location. The library recently moved to a renovated space at 70 Newberry Commons, Etters. The quilt is on display at the library. Tickets for the giveaway drawing are available at the library’s main desk. Family Fun Day will include activities for children and adults. UPMC Pinnacle Receives Grant UPMC Pinnacle was one of three state organizations named to receive a PAC-MAT grant to help battle the state’s opioid addiction crisis. With PAC-MAT funding, UPMC Pinnacle will strengthen its current medical-assisted treatment (MAT) and case management services to patients within the health system’s outpatient sites in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties. UPMC Pinnacle Center for Addiction Recovery, 2501 N. Third St., Harrisburg, will serve as the hub and bring together primary, secondary, and tertiary care providers, as well as community and hospital administration members, to build on an addiction treatment program that increases access to care, reduces health care costs, and
improves quality. This will include increasing drug and alcohol screenings within the broader network of providers, creating a Care Map for patients to research care patterns, establishing a community network of case management support, and broadening the use of MAT throughout the region by breaking down stigmas and barriers to care. In the PAC-MAT model of treatment, an addiction specialist physician is at the center of the hub, providing expert guidance and support to primary care physicians in rural and underserved areas of the state. Serving as the spokes, primary care physicians provide direct patient care, including the medication-assisted treatment prescription. Patients also are connected to drug and
alcohol counseling in their communities. These grants are funded through the second 21st Century CURES grant, a $26.5 million federal grant the state received to combat the heroin and opioid epidemic by increasing access to treatment, reducing unmet treatment need, and reducing opioid overdose-related deaths through the provision of prevention, treatment, and recovery activities for substance-use disorder. The UPMC Pinnacle Center for Addiction Recovery is a comprehensive addiction clinic. The center connects individuals facing an opioid use disorder to treatment through the use of medication assisted treatment. For more information, readers may visit www.upmcpinnacle.com.

appalling consequences. To be appalled is to be overcome with consternation, horror, dismay. It is to become pale, faint, weak. It is to experience great shame and blushing. “What fruit (profit, advantage) did you then have in the things of which you are now ashamed? This question was asked by the apostle Paul to Christians as he was exhorting them to live godly lives. He reminds them how harmful and dishonorable their former lives were in their unconverted state, and how they now are ashamed of their former behavior. They have come to faith in Christ and have become new creatures in Him. They have nothing to fear of punishment because their sins are forgiven through faith in the Son of God, but they continue to experience a shame for what they once were. Their remembrance of their former sins perform a humbling and sanctifying effect upon them. Many who are ashamed of their deeds are not converted, but all of the converted are ashamed of their sinful deeds. Jesus Christ is the only one who has ever lived who needed to have no shame. His righteousness is put to the account of all who call upon Him for salvation.
If you would like a copy of a Bible and/or a pamphlet entitled “Where Do We Go From Here, please send your name and address to West Side Baptist Church, P.O. Box 274, Thomasville, PA 17364 and we will be happy to mail you what you request. R017358

When conscience warns against it, our depraved nature, under these enticements, asserts safety in non-detection (in spite of what was seen and heard on last night’s news). There is wealth to be gained, lust to be satisfied, status to be achieved, and our feet are by nature ready to run in the way of sinful means to bring these ends to pass. Good times are to be had, and to be had safely (we think), so the expectation and anticipation produce the participation and commission. And indeed there is exhilaration, pleasure, excitement. The Bible does refer to “the passing pleasures of sin. Ah, yes. The passing pleasures of sin. Criminals are incarcerated, families are destroyed, abortions are performed, children are reared without fathers, schools can barely keep order, robbery victims are left uncompensated, and in some cases those who sinned take their own lives because unwilling to face the shame of their sins. When mankind rejects God and His authority and consequently does not live in obedience to Him, it leads to

after hours. Illegal dumping of trash or recyclables is prohibited. In York County, the majority of residential households have access to curbside recycling programs. The YCSWA’s Recycling Drop-off Facility is a requirement of Act 101, Pennsylvania’s Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act and serves as a supplement to municipal residential curbside recycling programs. Under Act 101, 18 York County municipalities are mandated to offer curbside recycling to residents. A total of 63 York County municipalities currently offer curbside recycling either because they are a mandated municipality or because they passed a municipal ordinance establishing curbside recycling for their residents. In addition, multiple municipalities offer drop-off recycling for residents either as stand-alone programs or in conjunction with curbside recycling. Municipal solid waste that is not recyclable is managed at the York County Resource Recovery Center, an advanced waste-to-energy process that converts these materials into renewable energy (enough to power 20,000 homes) and recovers ferrous and non-ferrous metals and aggregates from the remaining combustion ash and reduces reliance on non-renewable sources of energy. On Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m., regional author, historian, and storyteller John Moore will share the story of a solider mutiny that took place in York in 1781 during the American Revolutionary War. The Second Saturday lecture, “The PA Line: York to Yorktown,” will take place at the Historical Society Museum, Library and Archives, 250 E. Market St., York. Continental troops, under the command of Gen. Anthony Wayne, angered by low and late pay and the fact that their currency was not accepted by York merchants, mutinied in May of 1781. Moore will share this little known story and share what Wayne did to end the discord and later lead his soldiers to victory at Yorktown, Va., only a few months later. All Second Saturday sessions are free and open to the public. No registration is required. For more information, readers may visit www.yorkhistorycenter.org or call 717-848-1587, ext. 301.
