hope your day is sweet like you, Kelsey! Happy birthday to Kay Hoke of Lower Swatara Township! Her cake-day is June 11. I hope your day is almost too much fun to handle, Kay!

Hi, everyone! Did you ever get really angry at someone and then find out that they had a problem and then you felt really bad that you got mad at them? That has happened to me more than a couple times, so you would think I would have learned by now not to jump to conclusions before I let myself get upset with them. I know, easier said than done. An old friend sent me this prayer and it really hit home. This is one of the best prayers I have heard in a long time. Prayer Heavenly Father, help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children. Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can’t make change correctly is a worried 19-yearold college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester. Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares. Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together. Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge ... and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen. BFB Happy Big Fat Belated Birthday to sweet little Season Celsky of Middletown! This little beauty’s fifth cake-day was June 1. I hope your whole year is full of fun and happiness, Season! Hugs! Happy Birthdays Happy birthday to Bev Gilmartin of Middletown! Her cake-day is June 5. I hope your day is full of sunshine and love, Bev! Happy birthday to Starlitta Bolinger of Royalton! Recipe of the Week Happy birthday to Kelsey Varner of Lower Easy Three-Ingredient Frozen Hot Chocolate Swatara Township! Her cake-day is June 11. I Hot chocolate for the summer!
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups (12 fluid ounces) chocolate milk 1 cup (5 to 6 ounces) dry hot chocolate mix, flavor and brand of choice 3-4 cups cubed ice Whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles or shavings, for garnish, if desired Directions: 1. Add the milk, hot chocolate mix, and ice, in the order listed, to a blender and process until smooth. 2. Pour into glasses and top with whipped cream and chocolate shaving/sprinkles, if desired. Tip of the Week The next time you need ice in a hurry, try filling your ice cube tray with hot water rather than cold water. Due to a mysterious little phenomenon called the Mpemba effect (pronounced mem-PEM-ba), hot water is capable of freezing faster than colder water under the same conditions. Fact of the Week The sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” uses every letter of the alphabet. Veterans from pg 1 Approximately 50 veterans gathered for a free breakfast and Memorial Day program hosted by Friends In Action Intl. (FIA) at the organization’s Middletown headquarters on May 25. FIA works in extremely remote areas of the world where there is little infrastructure. The 501(c)(3) organization uses construction projects as a platform to share the Gospel. Veterans from every branch of the armed forces were present. While the majority in the audience were Army Vietnam veterans, the gathering also included one Korean War soldier and three Operation Enduring Freedom veterans.
The Veterans Appreciation Breakfast included remarks from Tim Johnston, FIA’s executive director. Attendees enjoyed a buffet of bacon, eggs, pancakes, sausage casserole, fruit and muffins while hearing from two Vietnam veterans. These speakers were Spc. Bob Rummel, a rifleman and radio operator from the 101st Airborne Division, and Col. James S. Weaver Jr. Additionally, multiple veterans spontaneously took the microphone to share their own stories of how they were treated immediately following the Vietnam War, as well as their combat experiences and their healing since their service. During the program, attendees also recited the Pledge of Allegiance led by Kamille Peachey of State College, heard Lily Medich See Veterans pg 4

The course is open to all children ages 8 to 12 and their parent or guardian. The course is designed to promote healthy choices, effective communication skills, problem-solving, and volunteerism using equine-assisted learning. No horse experience is needed. Miniature horses will be provided by the Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA). Children will experience hands-on activities, while learning proper horse handling. The program is free of charge, but donations will benefit CATRA’s equine therapy program. To register, readers may visit www.catra.net/miniature-horse-challenge. Additional dates in 2019 can be found on the calendar at www.catra.net.

Auditions from pg 1
“We’re all very across the board and bring a lot to the table,” said Ambria. “I’m definitely going to miss how close our class is and the small community feel.” Thy echoed those sentiments, adding that she appreciated the positive interactions she had with both teachers and students at MCCS, as well as how her classmates were all very teachable and willing to learn. One of Thy’s favorite educators during her time at MCCS was high school science and chemistry teacher Melissa Risser. “She’s very caring and cares about how we feel each day,” noted Thy. “And she would answer our questions even if it might not be about something related to the lesson that day.” Senior class adviser Rachel Hodges, who teaches English and literature, was one MCCS educator who made a positive impact on Ambria. “She was definitely our class mom,” Ambria said. “She cared about us, and she challenged us a lot in English - in a good way.”
The Susquehanna Chorale invites interested adults age 18 and over to audition for its 2019-20 season. Auditions for openings in all voice parts will be held by appointment on Mondays, June 10 and 17, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 212 Cocoa Ave., Hershey. Other audition times are available upon request. The chorale was founded in 1981 by conductor Linda L. Tedford. The chorale has received critical acclaim for its work, including the Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Excellence. Most recently, the chorale was named a finalist in the community chorus division of the American Prize 2015 competition. Regular season concerts will include the Youth Choral Festival in November, three Christmas concerts in December, and two concerts in
Ambria said that math and science teacher Julie Lamb, whom she had for physics and as the adviser of Student Council, was often a source of calm during chaotic times. “She always seems to have an answer and a game plan and brings us back to where we need to be,” noted Ambria. In addition to commencement, the MCCS Class of 2019 took a senior class trip to Daufuskie Island, S.C., for a week in April and participated in a baccalaureate ceremony on May 22.
