During opening ceremonies, his mother, Rachel Thomas, shared the story of discovering Henry’s heart defect during a routine check-up when he was 2 years old. What nurses first believed to be a heart murmur turned out to be a serious congenital heart defect called coarctation of the aorta, or a narrowing of the blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. Chatter Hi, everyone! Oh, how I am loving the cooler temperatures! I absolutely love being able to sit around a campfire and not be too hot or get eaten alive by mosquitoes. And the leaves are starting to look beautiful; my burning bushes are really starting to turn red. And I love the way the air feels as it fills my lungs. I really, really like this time of the year. Pre-Holiday Season! (But I love Holiday Season even more!!!) This Week’s Obscure Holidays Oct. 23 - National Boston Cream Pie Day - Yum! I think I’m gonna like this day! Grab a pie at the grocery store and have yourself a party! Oct. 24 - National Bologna Day - OK, I like the way this week is starting out! I think we should grab a pound of bologna from the deli, spread some cream cheese on it, and celebrate in style! Oct. 25 - Sourest Day - A day to celebrate all things sour - people or foods! Oct. 26 - Howl at the Moon Day and Night - The name of the holiday comes from the belief that wolves howl at the moon. According to lore, on a full moon night, wolves upturn their head towards the moon and communicate with it by howling. Oct. 27 - American Beer Day - Celebrate the day by visiting a local spot and sampling some American beverages. I think I will stick with good old American root beer! Oct. 28 - International Animation Day It’s a day to recognize and celebrate the artists, the scientists, and the technicians behind animated art, including animated movies. Oct. 29 - Internet Day - (In my world, Internet Day is celebrated every day of the year!) This holiday encourages people to celebrate the internet and to acknowledge that it has revolutionized how we communicate, gather knowledge, and share information with each other. And, yes, also how we waste our time.

Random Thought Just burned 2,000 calories. That’s the last time I leave brownies in the oven while I nap. Recipe of the Week Pumpkin Pie Bars Ingredients 1 can (29 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk 1 1/2 cups sugar 4 large eggs 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 package butter recipe golden cake mix (regular size) 1 cup butter, melted 1 cup chopped pecans Whipped topping, optional Directions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients; beat on medium speed until smooth. Pour into an ungreased 13-by-9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with dry cake mix. Drizzle butter over top; sprinkle with pecans. 2. Bake 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 1 hour on a wire rack. 3 . Refrigerate 3 hours or overnight. Remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before serving. Cut into bars. If desired, serve with whipped topping. Tip of the Week Make a “Gratitude List”: Write down everything you’re thankful for, from big (like having a roof over your head) to small (like your Netflix account). “Reminding yourself of what you have leads to appreciation that helps you feel measurably more content,” clinical psychologist Andrea Bonior, Ph.D., tells BuzzFeed Life. Joke of the Week And the Lord said unto John, “Come forth and you will receive eternal life.” But John came fifth and won a toaster. Food for Thought “I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all, but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.” - Martin Luther Have a great week, everybody!
