Saginaw Community Church will hold its annual Community Days on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saginaw Picnic Grove, located across the street from the Saginaw Park, 725 York St., Mount Wolf. St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3335 Rosstown Road, Rossville, will hold a yard sale on Friday, Aug. 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 25, from 8 a.m. to noon. The event will take place rain or shine. The sale will feature Christmas and other holiday items, jewelry, CDs, DVDs, picture frames, dishes, kettles, silverware, knickknacks, purses, luggage, coolers, and more. Barbecue, hot dogs, and beverages will be available for purchase on both days. This is a Thrivent-funded project. Proceeds will benefit St. Michael’s Church TEAM SMAC (American Cancer Society, Relay For Life of Dillsburg) and church projects. UPCOMING COURSE
1095 Pines Road, Goldsboro (Etters), will host a 12-week REBOOT Combat Recovery course beginning on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. The training focuses on healing the spiritual wounds of combat and is led by combat veterans, including a nationally certified counselor. The course is open to combat veterans, along with spouses and partners. Free child care and dinner are included, as well. Healthy Kids Running Series Plans Events Healthy Kids Running Series New Cumberland will return for its ninth season at Roof Park, Lewisberry Road, New Cumberland. Events will take place on Sundays, Sept. 16 to Oct. 14. Races will begin at 4:30 p.m. The program is designed to promote a healthy and active lifestyle while providing children with a positive, educational and fun introduction into the world of running. The program is family-friendly and is intended to help children gain confidence and self-esteem. The program is open to all youths age 2 through grade eight in the surrounding communities. The divisions and race distances are divided by grade level. The divisions and distances include prekindergarten, 50- or 75-yard dash; kindergarten and first grade,
quarter-mile; second and third grades, half-mile; fourth and fifth grades, 1 mile; and sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, 1 mile. On the final race day, Oct. 14, a free parents’ 1-mile run will be available. To register online, readers may visit www.healthykidsrunning series.org/race_locations/new -cumberland-pa/. Registration forms may be downloaded from the website or obtained on-site on race days. Registration will remain open throughout the season. Fees have been set for the entire five-week series and for the individual races. The program is entirely run by volunteers, and high school and adult volunteers are needed. Rineer Will Share Wildlife Photographs Red Land Community Library, 70 Newberry Commons, Etters, will present a program titled “The Wolves at Speedwell” on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 6:30 p.m. The doors will open at 6 p.m. Author and photographer Chuck Rineer will share some of the photographs he has taken of the packs of wolves at Speedwell Forge Wolf Sanctuary, located in Lancaster County. Rineer has been photographing wolves the in their natural habitat since 2007. Attendees will learn about the wolves’ lives throughout the seasons of the year and how the newest wolves are integrated into their packs. Copies of Rineer’s recently published book, “Wolf Sanctuary,” will be available for purchase and signing. The book is a compilation of Rineer’s photographs. The program is free, but donations will be accepted. Light refreshments will be served.

The Yorkfest Fine Arts Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, in downtown York. The festival, which will be held in and around the Colonial Complex and along the Rail Trail from Philadelphia to Princess streets, will operate from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 25 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 26. All events are free and open to the public. This year’s featured artist is Robert Oughton. His pen-and-ink drawing “Lite Aire� is being used in print advertisements, postcards, billboards, and festival merchandise. Additionally, 100 fine artists from across the country have been chosen to participate in the Yorkfest Festival Marketplace. A variety of activities will also be
available during Yorkfest. The Yorkfest Juried Art Exhibition will be displayed at the Creative York gallery, 10 N. Beaver St. The public is invited to a reception for art and literary award winners at the gallery on Friday, Aug. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. New this year, a Silent Disco will take place in Cherry Lane on Aug. 24 from 8 to 11 p.m. The Yorkfest Youth Art and Literary Exhibits will be displayed at the Agricultural and Industrial Museum, 217 W. Princess St. An awards ceremony will take place on Aug. 26 at 2 p.m. Creative York will present the Creative York Family Courtyard, featuring a variety of interactive community art projects. The area

Multiple performance areas will offer live music and entertainment throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Music Around the World will include a Musical Petting Zoo, instruction and materials to make Polynesian musical instruments, and a Community Music Composition Collaboration. At the Silken Literary Tent, local and regional artists will present page poetry, dramatic monologues, spoken word performances, storytelling, and more. Readings will take place in 15- to 20-minute segments, all day, both days; passersby are welcome to join in and perform. A spin art bicycle project will be available. Festival attendees are invited to create works of art while getting a little exercise by pedaling a stationary bike to activate a spinning platter while a partner squirts paint onto paper. The York County History Center will offer several attractions in and around the Colonial Complex, including its gift shop, tours of the Murals of York and the Colonial Courthouse, and talks and demonstrations. Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) is expanding its Children’s and Primary Division to a third location at the Capital Blue health and wellness center, located at 4500 Marketplace Way, Enola. CPYB will lease the studio space starting in September. With the addition of Enola, CPYB will have three locations: two studios in Carlisle and one in Enola. Children’s Division and Primary Division classes at Capital Blue will be offered for children ages 3 to 9 and taught primarily by children’s division coordinator and faculty member Rose Taylor. CPYB, a celebrated leader in the world of ballet education, has offered classes in central Pennsylvania for more than 60 years. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) will hold its 44th annual EMMR Convention from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 24 to 26, at Latimore Valley Fairgrounds, 100 Baltimore Road, York Springs. EMMR will honor the late Gary Wolford this year. He was known for his racing career at many tracks, especially Silver Springs Speedway. Wolford was a friend and supporter of EMMR. On Aug. 24, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The restored race cars will do some exhibition racing at Williams Grove Speedway. In the afternoon on Saturday, Aug. 25, and Aug. 26, visitors may watch the restored cars participate in exhibition racing at the historic Latimore Valley Speedway. The Inliners International will also have a display. In the morning on Aug. 26, EMMR will hold its membership meeting and the introduction of the grand marshals, Ruth and Clarence Snavely. Aug. 25 will be the annual Cruise-In Night at the museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will include food, music, prize drawings, awards, and a cash award for Best of Show in three catagories. Goodie bags and plaques will be given to the first
100 participants. There is a registration fee, with a discount for those who preregister. There will be a grand door prize drawing for the preregistered cars. The museum will be open with free admission.
