Bailey Coach, based in Spring Grove, celebrated and recognized its volunteers for disinfecting 500 first responder vehicles since April 7. A small ceremony was held at Bailey Coach on May 5. As part of its mission to give back to the community, Bailey Coach dedicated one of its specialized electrostatic sprayers to be used on Mondays through Fridays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. to disinfect first responder vehicles. The process to disinfect takes two to five minutes. The staff members who have been disinfecting the vehicles are volunteers from the Bailey Coach staff or their families. Bailey Coach plans to operate the free disinfecting to serve first responders in York, Adams and Lancaster counties as long as the disinfecting treatments are needed to keep the area’s first responders healthy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Agencies Create Quarantine Plan Students Earn Academic Honor A multi-agency plan providing quarantine space in York County for people who cannot self-isolate has been deployed in response to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. This alternative sheltering option exists for homeless individuals, those living in congregate housing, and others who have been determined by their health care provider or case manager as being unable to self-isolate in their current housing situation. This plan includes hotel space, transportation, meals, hygiene kits, and twice-daily check-ins handled by WellSpan Health and UPMC. Any case management the individual had remains in place to provide additional support. Homeless individuals will be connected to local providers assisting with housing.

The quarantine housing plan is activated when symptoms are evaluated either online, by phone, or in person by a medical professional who will determine the need for a COVID-19 test. To access these services, individuals should work with their preferred health system and medical provider. If an individual does not have a medical provider, a health system should be selected for this purpose. If a COVID-19 test is issued, individuals should identify their next steps based on the health system they are working with. For WellSpan Health, individuals should connect with their health care provider, case manager, or housing program staff for guidance on isolation practices, accessing transportation, and quarantine shelter.

Individuals needing COVID-19 information and support can call WellSpan’s hotline at 855-851-3641. For UPMC, individuals should call the UPMC Pinnacle Nurse Advice Line at 866-968-7731. Guidance will be provided on isolation practices, accessing transportation, and quarantine shelter. In addition to WellSpan Health and UPMC, agencies involved include York County, York County Planning Commission, York City Bureau of Health, Rabbittransit, and York County Coalition on Homelessness. The effort has also received funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, and Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.

He recovered from the surgery, but a regular hearing test revealed that Nate was deaf, a possible side effect of the medicine he received to fight his infection. He was diagnosed with auditory neuropathy, but with the help of a hearing aid he received at age 3, he is able to live a normal life. “After all of that, Nate is on the dean’s list at school, loves basketball and video games, and we couldn’t be more proud or happy for him and what his future holds, said Jason. “If it weren’t for all of the screening, testing, medications and surgical expertise available to him, Nate would not be with us today. Volunteers, survivors and supporters will gather for the American Heart Association’s annual York Heart Ball, a virtual event, on Saturday, May 30, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The theme will be “Night With the Stars - at Home. The annual gala will highlight the need to advance scientific research and expand community programs that protect the cardiovascular health of York County residents. The association is working to provide reliable, science-based information for the approximately 120 million people in the United States who currently have one or more cardiovascular conditions which could put them at higher risk for COVID-19 complications. The event will feature the story of 15-year-old local congenital heart defect survivor Nathan Campisi. Nate’s parents, Jason Campisi and Amy Foxwell, learned that Amy was pregnant after three years of trying. After some early tests revealed that their baby might have spina bifida, they started going for ultrasounds more frequently. Additional testing showed the earlier test may have been a false positive. However, during a 33rdweek ultrasound, doctors noticed something wrong with the baby’s heart. One week later, Nate was born. Doctors moved the baby to the NICU, where they learned that Nate had a congenital heart defect called anductus arteriosus and would need open heart surgery right away. While they waited for surgery day, Nate developed a life-threatening

Organizations Receive Funding The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania recently awarded a $250,000 grant to the Manufacturers’ Association of Emigsville to establish a unique apprenticeship ecosystem that will support manufacturers in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties. The purpose of this forwardleaning project is to establish a registered apprenticeship ecosystem in southcentral Pennsylvania by expanding employer program participation, increasing the number of journey workers, and adding apprentices and preapprentices. The association has also been able to increase the number of trades included, such as toolmakers, machinists, maintenance mechanics, mechatronics technicians, quality technicians, and industrial manufacturing technicians, and it recently submitted paperwork to the state to add a registered automation robotics technician. Secondary objectives of the new program include increasing participation of nontraditional populations, which are typically underserved

by trades training, and more efficiently aligning available resources to better support economic growth throughout the region. The program has expanded in recent years by creating a mentor training program, adding college credit and establishing a high school pre-apprenticeship program to prepare the future skilled workforce. The association currently has more than 80 apprentices from more than 30 companies in its multi-year apprentice training program, which aims to help regional manufacturers create a steady pipeline of skilled workers to meet their needs moving into the future. The southcentral Pennsylvania manufacturing sector was recently awarded a second round of funding to further support the Next Generation Manufacturing Industry Partnership. The commonwealth’s PAsmart Next Gen grants provide funds to support the development, launch, implementation, and technical assistance of Next Gen Industry Partnerships (IP), which

address the workforce, economic development, and educational needs of regional industries through an employer-led and demand-driven approach. Over the past year, the Southcentral Pennsylvania Manufacturing Next Gen Industry Partnership of regional manufacturing leaders created action teams that focused on the most urgent needs identified by the industry. Those include promoting manufacturing careers to grow the future workforce, improving training opportunities for middle-skill and technical occupations, and facilitating businessto-business connections to exchange best practices. The partnership is facilitated by The Manufacturers’ Association which works with regional organizations to support the employers’ initiatives, which include SCPa Works, the regional workforce development board; the Southcentral Pennsylvania Partnership for Regional Economic Performance; and the educational partners in southcentral Pennsylvania. The private sectordriven initiative is led by two

COMMUNITY REACH, INC. The Ruthann Young Community Center 15 First Avenue, Red Lion, PA 17356 (717) 244-6934 www.CommREACH.org communityreachinc@gmail.com

We Are Here for You! During these unprecedented times, remember Community REACH, Inc. is here for you and your family. Our friendly staff and volunteers are available to resource, educate, advocate, connect, and help those in need in our community.

A Choice Food Pantry Our “choice food pantry” is tailored to the dietary needs, preferences and size of your family. We welcome new guests to our pantry through an intake phone call, placing of your food order and curbside pick-up. Because of the increased volume of need in our community, please leave a message if your call is not answered!

Local, Community Focused Serving residents of the Dallastown, Eastern and Red Lion Area School Districts, call today if your family is in need of food to supplement your nutritional needs. Additionally, a variety of programs help provide school supplies, cold weather gear, Christmas gifts and special holiday meal boxes throughout the year for our most vulnerable neighbors.

Educational Programs The agency provides a monthly calendar of educational opportunities in the following areas: personal and family finance, literacy and high school equivalency, health and wellness, food and nutrition, employment readiness, and computer literacy. Several of these programs are using online instruction. All other educational classes will resume when it is safe to gather.

Thank You! Thank you to everyone who has supported our food pantry and our new educational program! Community REACH, Inc. thanks the York County Community Foundation and the United Way for their recent grant to support an increase in capacity to meet the needs of local residents in the Dallastown, Eastern, and Red Lion Area School Districts. Your continued support is essential for us to meet the demands of our community at this time of extraordinary need. Please contact us to see how you can make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

COMMUNITY REACH, INC. A not-for-profit 501[c]3 community service agency since 1974 serving at-risk and low-income residents within the school districts of Dallastown, Eastern York, and the Red Lion areas through tangible assistance and educational programs.
