a benefit event, will be hosted by We Are 1 on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown. Warriors for Women will host approximately 40 local vendors ranging from crafters and direct sales representatives to lifestyle coaches and self-defense experts. Women who are interested in celebrating healthy lifestyles and attitudes are invited to take part in the beach body contest. A disc jockey will provide music. Attendees may participate in one of several prize drawings, and each charity will have representatives present to provide information about participating organizations. We Are 1 is a group that supports and inspires women who have experienced loss in their lives by connecting women with a variety of important resources. The August event will benefit two local organizations, Pink Hands of Hope and Bridge of Hope. To mark the occasion, 18 South will offer a coffee and dessert hour at The Red Brick Bakery, 55 N. Main St., Red Lion on Wednesday, Aug. 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. The event will include a brief update about 18 South, an introduction of The Hope Project, and a time of networking. Church Plans Summer Yard Sale
The new “Disciple Fast Track� Bible study will be offered at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road, Cross Roads. The sessions will run from 10 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays, from Sept. 11 to Dec. 4; and from 7:35 to 8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays, from Sept. 12 to Dec. 5. Between sessions, participants will be required to read several chapters of the Bible and complete written homework. Guinston Evangelical Presbyterian Church will hold a summer clearance yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 8 to 2 p.m., rain or shine. The sale will take place inside the Chanceford Community Building, 51 Muddy Creek Forks Road, Brogue. A large collection of items will be available, including Adirondack chairs and furniture, along with household and kitchen items, tools, and electronics. Other items will include jewelry, collectibles, books, toys, and clothing from newborn to adult sizes, handbags and shoes. The kitchen will be open to serve lunch and baked goods. All proceeds will go to the Guinston sanctuary building fund.
Silver Spurs Cowboy Church will take place on Sunday, Aug. 19, in the barn at the ranch, 3231 Warner Road, Brogue. All are welcome. The children’s program will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the worship service at 6 p.m. led by Brad Rineholt, an ordained Cowboys for Christ chaplain. The service will include music, Scripture, and Communion. A potluck dinner, s’mores, and a campfire will follow the service. Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share if they are able.

Organizers have already packed and mailed 14 boxes. Another mailing will be sent to the troops in time for the holiday season. One Book, One Community (OBOC) organizers have announced that members of the public may vote for next year’s One Book, One Community book selection from Wednesday, Aug. 1, to Friday, Aug. 31. From a ballot of five books chosen by the book selection committee, participants may vote for the book they would be most interested in reading and discussing in 2019. The selections are “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger, “Ginny Moon” by Benjamin Ludwig, “A Hope More Powerful Than the Sea” by Melissa Fleming, “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Grann, and “The Hate U Give” by Angie Thomas. Paglia, of Hopewell Township, volunteers as an APPRISE receptionist, AARP tax scheduler and general office assistant. Paglia said her previous work life also involved helping others. She likes to stay active and volunteering fulfills that role for her. Valentine, of Conewago Township, helps out as an APPRISE counselor. He started volunteering with the agency during high school and has continued while attending York College, where he is studying human services. Valentine says that he enjoys picking apart the complicated Medicare network. Monk, of York Township, currently serves as an APPRISE counselor. She has also volunteered as a longterm care ombudsman. As an APPRISE counselor, she provides information about Medicare benefits, Medicare Advantage plans and Supplemental Health plans.
