Watershed Steward Training Slated
Master Watershed Stewards recently helped plant a riparian buffer at a Northeastern School District property. Penn State Extension in York County is accepting applications for the Master Watershed Steward Training, which will begin in late February 2020. Penn State Extension in York County is accepting applications for the Master Watershed Steward Training, which will begin in late February 2020. The program was launched in 2016 in York County, and York County currently has 70 Master Watershed Stewards. After completing the 40-hour course, trainees must volunteer 50 hours for Penn State Extension during their first year. Master Watershed Stewards in York County will volunteer in the community to improve the health of local streams, rivers, and other natural resources through activities such as organizing stream cleanups, designing
demonstration rain gardens, teaching adults and children about the environment, monitoring streams, and working with municipal officials to plant riparian buffers. A Master Watershed Steward information session will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, at the Penn State Extension York County Office, 112 Pleasant Acres Road, York, in meeting room 1 at 6:30 p.m. Applications will be accepted through January 2020. Weekly classes will begin in late February and conclude in midMay; the training will also include three Saturday field trips. The program fee includes training materials and expenses. Choir To Present Christmas Cantata The New Song Community Choir will present the Christmas cantata “Joy Has Dawned” at three area churches. Performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 2335 Cramer Road, Brogue; on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 161 S. Main St., Shrewsbury; and on Sunday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. at Round Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 7362 Church Road, Felton. The New Song Community Choir is an
ecumenical choir of 40 voices from 20 different churches in the southern York County area. Under the direction of Deryl Lutz, the choir is known for performing Christmas music, as well as gospel and patriotic music. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free, though a freewill offering will be received to benefit the choir. Weekly services are held on Sundays at 9:30 a.m., with Bible studies at 8:30 and 10 a.m. On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Clothes Closet will be open from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and clothes will be available for infants through adults 3X. Breakfast will be available to visitors from 8 to 10 a.m. as well. Clothing donations, particularly children’s clothing, are also needed and may be placed in the building’s breezeway at any time. New Song Community Choir will perform at 2 p.m. on Dec. 7. A freewill offering will be collected to support the choir. A light meal will be served at 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to stay for the meal, but those who do are asked to register in advance by calling 717927-9497 with the number of attendees. On Sunday, Dec. 15, the worship service will be Lessons and Carols for Advent. Attendees will learn the sources for the hymn “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” The monthly work session to sort clothing and prepare for the next Clothes Closet distribution will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Volunteers are welcome to participate.
