“Road To Bethlehem” To Depict Birth Of Jesus Christ Snow Jesus Christ. “I just got it in my my young daughter, who likes seeBy Chelsea Peifer

Susquehanna Grace Community Church (SGCC), 6694 Sunrise Ave., Wrightsville, will host the Road to Bethlehem from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14. The live Nativity will consist of 11 scenes, with 60 actors and live animals depicting the birth of Jesus Christ. The outdoor event is free and open to people of all ages. Donations of nonperishable food items, as well as household and personal items, and monetary contributions will be accepted for Hearts for Hunger food pantry, which is located at Pleasant View Church in Red Lion. SGCC has been presenting the Road to Bethlehem for the community for decades. This year, Pauline “Polly” Almoney, the mastermind behind the event, turned 85. Forty years ago, the idea came to Almoney to create an event that focused on the true meaning of the holiday season: the birth of

head; I could just picture it,” recalled Almoney. What Almoney pictured was one manger scene in front of SGCC, but the embodiment of her vision has now grown to 11 scenes. “She is a lovely lady and considerably humble when you try to give her accolades for her hard work,” remarked Rebecca Smith, who helps to organize the Road to Bethlehem. “As a mom of a young child in this church, I’m grateful for Polly’s idea, because what was an idea in her head is now a major ministry for our church.” Attendees will be directed to drive up a luminaria-lit drive while seasonal music plays in the background. “This event is unique in that you choose how you will enjoy the event,” explained Smith. “We have visitors that drive through only. We have visitors that park their cars and walk a luminaria-lit path past the scenes. This is a favorite for

ing the animals up close.” Guests are also welcome to go inside SGCC to enjoy homemade treats and musical performances in the sanctuary. This year’s musicians include harpist Emily Marini Aziza, Crossroads Connected 2.0 Band, and the Josh Smith Band. Last year, more than 400 vehicles went through the Road to Bethlehem at SGCC. “For many community members, this event has been a family tradition for years,” noted Smith. “The kids love the animals; they are a fan favorite.” More than 80 people from SGCC are involved in putting together the Road to Bethlehem, and a rehearsal is held on the day of the event. “We have volunteers that have been working with us for years, often in the same scene, so our actors are seasoned veterans,” Smith said. All of the efforts are worth it in the eyes of the organizers, whose vision is to share the truth and love of Jesus Christ with friends and neighbors. “His love is great and far reaching, and we seek only to be an extension of that love,” said Smith. To learn more about the Road to Bethlehem, readers may visit w w w. s u s q u e h a n n a grace.org or call the church at 717252-1233.

The Road to Bethlehem, an outdoor Nativity featuring actors, live animals, music, and 11 scenes leading up to and including the birth of Jesus Christ, will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Susquehanna Grace Community Church in Wrightsville. The event is free and open to people of all ages.

Removal Tips Posted For Safe Mail Delivery With the approach of winter in Pennsylvania come freezing temperatures, snow, and ice. The U.S. Postal Service is asking customers to help letter carriers deliver mail safely by clearing snow and ice from sidewalks, stairs, and mailboxes. The Postal Service will make every reasonable, safe attempt to deliver mail during and after a storm. However, wintry precipitation can make mail delivery dangerous and slow. Maintaining a clear path to the mailbox - including steps, porches, walkways, and street approach - will help keep letter carriers safe and help them continue to offer consistent delivery service. All customers should keep the approach to and exit from their mailbox or mail slot free of ice and snow. Customers receiving door delivery should make sure their sidewalks, steps, and porches are clear. Customers receiving curbside or rural delivery should remove snow piles, such as those left by snow plows, to keep access to their mailboxes clear for letter carriers; mailboxes should be cleared sufficiently on both sides. Curbside or rural boxes should also be kept clear of vehicles, trashcans, and other objects. Delivery service may be delayed or curtailed whenever streets or walkways present hazardous conditions for letter carriers or when snow is plowed against mailboxes. Delivery will be curtailed only after careful consideration and as a last resort. Delivery of curtailed mail will be attempted the next delivery day. Blue collection boxes also need to be kept clear for customers to deposit their mail and for the Postal Service to collect the mail for delivery. Residents and businesses with collection boxes near their property are asked to keep them clear of snow and ice.

The Cantata Choir of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 311 Haines Road, York, will perform “Christmas Dreams,” a cantata by Joseph M. Martin and Heather Sorenson, at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 15. This work presents the story of Christmas by connecting ancient Scripture with the journey of faith today. Traditional carols like “All Through the Night” and “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” will combine with new compositions. Pastor Stephens Lytch will narrate. At 5 p.m., on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24, Eastminster

will hold a family service. Youths ranging from kindergartners through high school students will provide a variety of music, including bell ringing and instrumental and vocal solos. At the conclusion of the service, attendees will sing “Silent Night” while holding glow sticks. During the traditional candlelight service with Holy Communion at 9 p.m., the Chancel Choir will sing the Harry Simeone arrangement of “Do You Hear What I Hear?” Pastor Lytch will deliver the sermon. For further information, readers may contact epcyorkoffice @gmail.com or 717-755-6222.

Children’s Art Class Scheduled An art class for children of all ages will be offered on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church (UMC), 3708 Delta Road, Airville. The project will be to create a snowman using glass yogurt containers, baby socks, ribbons, paints and other materials. The goal is to have the students experience art through the use of various kinds of materials and acrylic paint. Students must pay a set fee

and contribute one nonperishable food item for the Delta Community Services food pantry. All supplies and a light snack will be provided. McKendree is committed to the Safe Sanctuary policy of the Susquehanna Pennsylvania Conference of the UMC. Registration is required before the event. For more information or to register, readers may contact Cindy at 717-862-3700 or Cindy.Allshouse@Yahoo.com.

Collinsville Community Library manager Ellen Helfrick said that many families in the rural community of Brogue cannot access internet service at their homes. At Martin Library, which is in an urban area, the public access computers and Wi-Fi see heavy use. Internet service is readily available in the city, but is cost-prohibitive for some members, so they visit the library. The mobile hotspots support smartphones, tablets, desktop computers, and laptops. Multiple devices can connect to a hotspot at the same time with unlimited data usage.

Shipley Energy recently announced a new division, Harmony Fuels, that will provide a carbon-neutral option for heating homes with heating oil and propane to residential customers from Maryland to Maine. For each gallon of heating oil or propane a customer purchases, Harmony Fuels will purchase the equivalent number of pounds of carbon offsets from certified green energy projects. Despite the purchase of carbon offsets, Harmony Fuels expects pricing to be equivalent to or lower than the average consumer cost of heating oil and propane. “Consumers are increasingly aware of the impact they have on the environment, and they want to be responsible,” said Steven Downey, president of Harmony Fuels. “With the launch of Harmony Fuels, we are excited to offer our customers a carbonneutral option as a step toward reducing our collective carbon footprint.” Harmony Fuels was created to provide customers with the energy needed to heat their homes in a way that is less harmful to the environment. Harmony Fuels will deliver standard low or ultra-low sulfur heating oil and propane to customers to use, and Harmony Fuels will purchase the equivalent number of carbon offsets, helping to fund projects designed to lead to cleaner air and lower overall carbon emissions. Customers will select the specific type of project that their specific carbon offsets will come from (solar, wind, landfill methane recapture, livestock methane capture, fugitive emissions capture, and others). Harmony Fuels will also provide the project names, location, and description for consumers to see. The purchases will be powered by Cloverly, a platform for the purchase of certified carbon offsets. Harmony Fuels will leverage the existing delivery partners of its sister company, Smart Touch Energy. For additional information, readers may visit www.harmonyfuels.com.

YCLC Student Receives Welding Lesson Thanks to an act of “paying it forward,” Mike, a student at York County Literacy Council (YCLC), received a free welding lesson on Nov. 16 at Earlbeck Gases & Technologies, Aberdeen Road, York. Travis Gentzler, president of Weldon Solutions, attended a Manufacturers’ Association tour event an Oct. 24. The event was held at Earlbeck Gases & Technologies, another association member. Gentzler’s company was awarded a free welding lesson, donated by Earlbeck as part of the event. Weldon Solutions is a York County manufacturer of CNC grinding machines and industrial robotic automation systems. That same evening, Gentzler donated the lesson to YCLC, where adult students in York County receive free educational classes and tutoring to achieve skills that will help them gain or improve their employment opportunities. mer GED) class at YCLC, and his dream is to eventually learn welding and then phlebotomy as a back-up career. Attending the welding class at Earlbeck was a major motivation for Mike. Weis Markets Donates Potatoes For “York Giving”

Leigh Lauer (right), Weis Markets marketing event ambassador, helps preschoolers Mason Berry (left) and Miles Johnson (center) bag up donated potatoes that were given to York-area residents in need for Thanksgiving. Weis Markets recently helped to sponsor this year’s “York Giving” Thanksgiving celebration with LifePath Christian Ministries and Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. Weis Markets donated 7,000 pounds of potatoes for the recipients of the Thanksgiving meal, which equals 3-and-a-half pallets

of 200 bags of potatoes each weighing 10 pounds. The potatoes were divided into lots of 1,400 pounds and sent out to five preschools for the children to count, sort and put into bags for each meal. The “Potato Patrol” at each preschool became a way for the children to help and give back.

Weis Markets donated 7,000 pounds of potatoes as part of this year’s “York Giving” Thanksgiving celebration with LifePath Christian Ministries and Catholic Harvest Food Pantry. On Nov. 19, the children from Eastminster Preschool packed 10 to 12 potatoes per bag, equaling four pounds for each family. The children worked on counting skills, practiced sharing and talked about all the uses of potatoes. This is the second year they have participated. The other preschools that participated in the project were St.

Joseph Catholic, Holy Trinity Catholic, St. Rose of Lima and Joyful Noise. This year, more than 2,400 families received meals on Nov. 23 for Thanksgiving. In addition to the donation of 7,000 pounds of potatoes, Weis collected 2,020 food items in a food drive.

to consider that, in spite of the inevitable ups and downs of life, the universe just might be a pretty accommodating place. Throughout his life, Newnam continued testing his belief that by following one’s heart, one can find the path to wholeness. One example of Newnam taking a leap of faith involved him leaving a secure job as a probation officer to answer an inner calling to become an artist. After several years of struggle, Newnam eventually became an accomplished watercolor artist. For the past 35 years, he has had a successful career painting for corporations as well as many private clients. He has had several one-man shows in galleries, created more than 20 book covers for the William Gladden Foundation, taught disadvantaged youths watercolor classes, and posted 23 how-to-paint videos on YouTube. Newnam began writing books to address a calling to publicly share his story and to relate various life lessons that have helped him on his journey. His first inspirational memoir, “Memo From Your Soul,” came out in 2011.

Thomas Newnam, a 73-year-old Windsor Township resident, is an artist, martial artist, psychotherapist, author, and life coach who began writing self-help books when he became a grandfather. Feeling blessed to have many of his fondest dreams come true, Newnam remains dedicated to passing along life lessons he has learned. “I’ve always known that helping others is the best way for me to become my most authentic self,” Newnam said. “I’ve been helped so much, and by so many, all I want to do is keep paying it forward - keep the love flowing - with my counseling, paintings, and books.” Newnam attributes his dedication to health, and what he calls “inner wealth,” to an experience he had at the age of 10. In 1956, Newnam won a pony in a contest through the children’s television show “Popeye Theater.” Entrants were asked to make a cattlebrand design out of their initials, and Newnam devoted hours of concentration to creating his design, which was ultimately selected as the winning entry. That childhood dream coming true, at such a formidable age, caused Newnam
