Jaerv is an internationally known act that has toured the U.S., Japan, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Finland, Norway and other countries. The quintet, consisting of Joel Hagen, Anders Bergsten, Harald Nilsson, Markus Gustavsson and Tobias Hedlund, offers a varied stage performance of vocals, energetic dances and free improvisations. The WELL Food Pantry, located at the rear of Union Lutheran Church, off Mason Avenue in York, will hold a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at the church on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The program will include a “lunch and learn” opportunity for attendees, who will learn about the anticipated change to a full client choice food pantry, set to occur in March. The need for volunteers will continue with this change, as each client will be paired one on one with a volunteer who can guide him or her through the pantry to shop. The pantry will continue its current offerings of personal care items, diapers, formula, and children’s snack bags. The WELL is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. by appointment and the second Saturday of the month for walk-ins. The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host two Maple Sugar Festival days at Nixon County Park on Saturdays, Feb. 29 and March 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interactive outdoor stations will teach the process of syrup making. Maple tastings, children’s crafts, a scavenger hunt and interpretive displays will be set up throughout the Nature Center, and maple products from Patterson Farms will be on sale. Visitors can experience demonstrations of the steps of maple syrup production at their own pace, learning all about maple sap and syrup from tree identification to historic boiling. Weather permitting,

there will be a hike on the Bird Hollow Trail to the new modern boiling station to see volunteers making maple syrup in real time. Attendees can follow a Maple Sugar Story Walk on the way back from the boiling station, complete the Bird Hollow loop and read a short children’s story about making maple syrup. The story will be laid out on posts along the trail. An admission cost has been set per person, with children age 5 and under and York County Park members admitted free. The York County Agriculture Business Council will hold its 34th annual Agricultural Recognition Banquet on Thursday, March 26, in Old Main Hall at the York Expo Center, 334 Carlisle Ave., York. The event will begin with a social time at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the program. The event is intended to strengthen mutual appreciation of business, urban, and agricultural communities as they continuously strive to improve people’s quality of life and share the wealth of resources everyone enjoys. Stock & Leader Attorneys at Law, Glatfelter Insurance Group, and the York Fair are sponsoring this year’s banquet. The keynote speaker will be Katie Dotterer-Pyle, a third-generation Pennsylvania dairy farmer who started a first-generation dairy farm, the Cow Comfort Inn, with her husband in Union Bridge, Md. At the 800-cow farm, the priority is to provide exemplary cow care. Katie is also well-known for her advocacy efforts within the agricultural industry with her signature #AskFarmersNotGoogle hashtag.

From live videos and educational posts on social media to farm tours and public speaking engagements, Katie enjoys finding ways to join agriculture and education. As part of the evening, awards and recognition will be given for Outstanding Farm Family, Outstanding Ag Industry, Outstanding Youth in Agriculture and other recognitions. Additionally, the 12th Tony Dobrosky Future Leaders Award will be presented in memory of Anthony G. Dobrosky. The Agricultural Recognition Banquet will also include a silent auction to raise funds to support the Council and its agricultural education efforts. Tickets are available at a fee per person.
