Dance MS Event Slated Dance MS, a Zumbathon event, will be held on Saturday, March 21, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Manchester Township Building Rec Hall, 3200 Farmtrail Road, York. The event will include six Zumba instructors from the Lancaster, Hanover, and York areas, along with a disc jockey, food, a selfie station, and two hours of dancing. For Andrea Nestlerode, a 35year-old Zumba instructor and coordinator of the event, Dance MS is personal. In 2017, over a few short days, Nestlerode was suddenly unable to talk, swallow, walk, or breathe well on her own. After spending time in the hospital and months in rehabilitation relearning these everyday
tasks, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Nestlerode became a Zumba instructor and is committed to be being an advocate for all those who suffer from MS. Tickets will be discounted when purchased in advance and full price at the door. Profits will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. For more information and tickets for the Dance MS Zumbathon, readers may visit www.zumba.com/ en-US/event/view/zumbathon -charity-event-8552. Readers who are unable to attend may support Nestlerode’s MS Annihilators MS Walk team by visiting http://main.nationalms society.org/goto/Andreas MSAnnhiliators.

Matthew Hobson Hobson said he intends to improve operations at York County 911, recognizing that there is a broad range of needs for the county’s emergency response agencies. He plans to first work with 911 staff and responders to build relationships. As part of their effort to enhance the relationship between York County 911 and the county’s emergency responders, the commissioners have revamped the York County Public Safety Advisory Board as a multidisciplinary body to provide insights and information regarding 911. The search committee that chose Hobson included York County 911 employees as well as representatives from the local police, fire and EMS communities.

Why is the school excited to participate in Give Local York this year? Christian School of York is excited to participate in Give Local York! Our students have been serving our local community, and we are eager to continue expanding our volunteer resources into the downtown area and beyond. Our students have been learning valuable life lessons by serving with Christ-led servant leadership. Students and families are engaged from age 2 until 18 in support of our mission and focusing on “Learn Live Serve.” Our initiatives will be serving local nonprofits to educate our students about our surrounding community, mission driven agencies, providing key resources to those in our community, and the value of volunteering to serve others.

The York County commissioners have hired Matthew Hobson to be the county’s 911 director. His first day was Feb. 10. Hobson comes to York County 911 with broad experience in the public safety and emergency response community. He most recently worked as executive director of New River Valley Emergency Communications Regional Authority in Christiansburg, Va. There, he managed a newly consolidated emergency communications center. Prior to his position in Virginia, Hobson had a six-year tenure with East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana, where he was the manager of the parish’s communications district that handled police, fire and EMS calls serving a population similar to York County’s and handling more than 320,000 emergency calls per year. Hobson has experience enhancing performance through the deployment of technology, including a computer-aided dispatch replacement among other robust system upgrades that affected multiple agencies. He has overseen the introduction of emergency medical dispatch into 911 centers that have never had it before.
