Giant Honored By Trade Publication Giant Food Stores has been named 2019 Retailer of the Year by Supermarket News, a retail food industry trade publication. This annual honor recognizes chains for outstanding performance in the grocery category, including growth, competitive performance, innovation, and industry leadership. Supermarket News is featuring Giant as the cover story of its September issue. Supermarket News recognized Giant this year for its multi-pronged growth strategy, including store acquisitions, relocated stores and remodels, fuel stations, and the new e-commerce hub in Lancaster. The publication also cited the company’s launch of its Giant Heirloom Market concept and format in the city of Philadelphia and the launch of its online grocery services offering, through new brand Giant Direct, Powered by Peapod, as notable achievements. Giant’s merchandising initiatives and innovations, including an enhanced loyalty program, Giant Choice Rewards, and its chainwide deployment of robotics and other in-store enhancements, were also acknowledged as part of the recognition. During its annual customer and community appreciation event held at the York Revolution ballpark, AgChoice Farm Credit’s York branch donated $250 to the York County Food Bank. DownTown (far left), mascot of the York Revolution, helped AgChoice Farm Credit directors Steven Gross (second from left) and Kevin Grim (center), along with AgChoice’s chief operating officer, Mark Kerstetter (far right), to present the donation to Michael Fox (second from right), the York County Food Bank’s development and communications coordinator. AgChoice employees and directors hosted the event during a York Revolution home game. More than 300 customer-owners, community members, and their families enjoyed a complimentary meal, door prizes, and tickets to the game. Children also received a wristband for games and activities at the ballpark. Kerstetter threw out the first pitch using an apple instead of a baseball, a callout to the area’s orchard harvest currently underway. During previous years’ events, AgChoice made similar donations to York County 4-H programs, in addition to supporting other local organizations throughout the year. For more information about AgChoice Farm Credit, readers may call 800-8221218 or visit www.agchoice.com.
