Conestoga Valley High School students participate in indoor percussion ensemble and guard practice for competitions organized by Keystone Indoor Drill Association (KIDA). The KIDA season begins in November and lasts through the end of March. The 24-member group consists of a stationary pit, or front ensemble, including marimbas, vibraphones, and other percussion instruments that do not
move easily. In the battery, or drumline, are drums and other moveable percussion instruments. In addition, a guitar is utilized as part of the show,
and narration and vocal lines are added to enhance the story. “(The narration and vocals) help bridge the gaps in the story line for the audience,” explained See Indoor Programs pg 2
A Hands-On Fundraiser
22nd “Messiah” Sing-Along Planned
A fire truck will be among the many vehicles filling the parking lot at the Hands-on House’s first Touch-A-Truck, to be held on April 27 at the museum.
The 22nd annual “Messiah” Sing-Along will take place on Friday, April 26, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster at 7 p.m. Past events have featured about 150 singers and attracted up to 600 audience members.

located at Emmaus Road Café, 1886 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, will explore practical ways to tell when someone is lying on Tuesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual, comfortable setting. The program, titled “How to Spot a Liar: Secrets From a Former FBI Agent,” will feature an exclusive filmed interview with John Schafer, former FBI counterintelligence officer. Admission is free. For details, contact 717-4739115 or ltclancaster@gmail.com.
According to Craig Kazda, president of Keystone Indoor Drill Association (KIDA), which is overseen by WGI (Winter Guard International), KIDA got its start as an organization in 1981. Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) started taking part as a stationary concert percussion program in 2013, but in 2018, the group began participating in the competition that involves movement and drills similar to marching band. The school now sports both an indoor competitive percussion ensemble and an indoor competitive color guard program. The two programs are overseen by Kazda and CVHS director of bands Brandon Nase. The color guard director is Callie Wendell, who is assisted by Kurstin Christaldi. The percussion ensemble meets in the CVHS on Tuesday evenings to practice.
EASTER EGG HUNT
Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Road, Leola, will hold a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. The event will take place rain or shine. After a short program, children from toddlers through sixth grade may hunt for eggs. There will be an egg hunt for children in wheelchairs in a specially designated area. Refreshments will be served after the egg hunt. Registered children will be eligible to win one of the grand prizes. To register a child, readers may visit www.zionleola.org or call 717-656-9200.

Kazda. “It’s a full immersive experience at an auditory and visual level.” An advanced sound system to mix the music was provided by a grant from the Conestoga Valley Education Foundation. The group performs in much the same way a marching band does on a field. A digitally printed floor tarp is utilized for the marchers. In competition, the group has nine minutes to unfold the tarp, set up, perform, and fold the tarp back up. For 2019, the group began practicing a show called “Breathe” in November of 2018, about two weeks following the end of outdoor marching band. “‘Breathe’ encapsulates the understanding that every breath we take is important and valuable,” explained Kazda. He noted that the show ex plores the relationship between breathing and emotions. “Breathing can indicate calm, excitement, frustration, and power,” Kazda explained, noting that the focus is on the common bonds that humans
share. “(The show) gives us an opportunity to do something educationally at a music and arts level, but it’s also an opportunity to teach a life lesson to the students,” said Kazda. “As musicians, artists, and performers, we have the ability to communicate those stories, (and when) audience members listen, (they can) share in the common experience.” Also on Tuesday nights, 16 color guard members rehearse their own show in the Gerald G. Huesken Middle School gym. Wendell, who has been working with the CVHS guard since 2016, brought more than 10 years of guard experience to the program, including being a member of the guard at Lebanon Valley College. The drill, which utilizes the One Republic song “I Lived,” was written by Wendell and tells a story with recorded music and the guard using six-foot flags, rifles, and sabers. “(The drill) is about everything (we) go through in life and coming out
feeling accomplished,” explained Wendell, who added that a ladder will be part of the set to symbolize movement to the top. The guard will have seven minutes to perform. “Our show is just shy of four minutes, so that leaves three minutes for setup and takedown,” Wendell said. According to Wendell, one of the biggest challenges of the program is devising a drill that will hold audience interest and work with students from a variety of skills and experience. “It’s finding how that dynamic all fits to create one show,” she noted. Connie Feeser, president of the CVHS band booster organization, noted that the students have attended competitive events at Central Dauphin School District and Cumberland Valley School District and in York County. An event was held at CVHS on March 16, a full-dress performance was held at CVHS for family and friends to enjoy on March 28, and championships were held on March 31 in Chambersburg.

and sculptures will be among the items found in the exhibit. Perhaps the most unique-looking vehicle at the Touch-A-Truck event will be the Hershey Kissmobile. Formerly a promotional vehicle for the candy company, the Kissmobile is now used for promotional community events. To nourish hungry visitors to the Touch-A-Truck event, Handson House has arranged for - what else? - food trucks to park alongside the other vehicles on display. “We will have a sandwich truck and a treat truck,” said Cluley. “We typically don’t have food here, but it’s part of the event, and it’s a truck.” Touch-A-Truck is a departure from past Hands-on House fundraisers. Cluley noted that the organization chose it after searching for an event that would
appeal to a broad audience. Stamp added that she hopes the gathering will introduce families to first responders and others from around the county. “We are looking at this as an opportunity for families to connect with our community and have a hands-on experience,” she said. There is a per-person cost to attend the Touch-A-Truck. Advance tickets for those age 2 and up may be purchased at www.handsonhouse.org. Children under the age of 2 will be admitted free. Tickets purchased prior to the day of the event will be discounted. Funds raised by the Touch-ATruck will benefit educational programming and exhibits of Hands-on House, a museum for children that first opened in 1987 in a Victorian house located

nearby along Landis Valley Road. In February of 2000, the museum moved to its current location and nearly doubled its floor space. Hands-on House is a nonprofit organization that exists to use play to create landmark experiences for children ages 2 to 10. Hands-on House will be open during Touch-A-Truck, and event attendees will receive a coupon for discounted admission to Hands-on House that will be good for one visit through Sunday, May 26. The Hands-on House Touch-A-Truck will be held rain or shine.

2 p.m. More than 12 trucks are lined up to be present in the Hands-on House parking lot that day. Attendees may park at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, and they will be shuttled to the event. During the fundraiser, attendees of all ages will be able to view and touch a variety of vehicles. “We have (scheduled) a variety of vehicles that we are excited about,” said Stamp, who listed a fire truck, a police car, construction vehicles, a dump truck, a cement mixer, a garbage truck, a television truck, and a skid steer loader among those that will be present. “The Lancaster County Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) has a BearCat, and that is coming out,” said Stamp, who added that she thinks children of all ages will be excited to see the militarystyle armored vehicle. One unusual vehicle that will take part in the event will travel from its home at the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg to Hands-on House. “The VanGo! is coming,” said Seth Cluley, exhibits and creative director at Hands-on House. The VanGo! is a mobile art museum housed in a former motorhome. “The exhibit that is in it right now is all about optical illusions,” explained Cluley, who added that paintings

Conestoga Valley High School (CVHS) was selected by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to receive the 2019 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. CVHS was selected for its CV Recycles campaign. The school’s recycling awareness and action campaign kicked off with the creation of a 6-foot-tall sign spelling “CV Recycles,” with the letters C and V made from metal mesh and filled with recyclable materials. The campaign continued on to collect enough recyclables to make the energy needed to power a convenience store for a year and offset the same amount of greenhouse gases as 10 acres of forest land. One individual and 17 organizations, businesses, and local governments in Pennsylvania were selected by the DEP to receive the award. The award
recipients were chosen among 28 applicants. Any individual, business, school, government agency, or community organization in Pennsylvania was eligible to apply. DEP evaluated projects for their degree of environmental protection, innovation, partnership efforts, economic impact, consideration of climate change, and sustainability and results achieved. Pictured on front: The installation of a 6-foot-tall sign made to hold recyclable materials was the first part of Conestoga Valley High School’s recycling awareness and action campaign. Sing-Along at 7 p.m. No child care will be provided. Singers will begin arriving at 6:30 p.m. According to Leaman, about 150 singers from Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties and even out of state typically take part. Leaman organizes them by voice part. Audiences of as many as 600 have attended past events. The full “Messiah” by G.F. Handel is organized into three parts. The first part covers Christ’s birth and fulfillment of prophecy, and the second part focuses on suffering and death, while the third part concludes with triumph over sin and death. The Christmas program, which includes part one, is performed in Chester County in December. At Easter, the program begins with the overture and then includes all of parts two and three. Perhaps the most well-known segment of “Messiah” is the “Hallelujah” chorus in part two, where the audience is encouraged to stand and sing with the vocalists. Leaman noted that sign language interpretation of the presentation will be provided by Carol Stevens and Grace McConkie. “Originally, it was just Carol (interpreting),” recalled Leaman. “But then Grace became interested (in interpreting), and she studied with Carol.” Leaman added that sometimes the women interpret simultaneously and at other times they take turns. Stevens serves as deaf ministry area coordinator for the Peninsula-Delaware of the United Methodist Church. She has 50 years of experience interpreting American Sign Language (ASL). McConkie is presently working toward her ASL teaching certification while attending Goldey-Beacom College. Westminster will be represented at this year’s sing-along by soprano Carolyn McLain in addition to Floyd Rawleigh Jr., who will be the “Hallelujah” chorus guest conductor, and Westminister retired organist Pat Bleecker, who will play. Returning soloists will include contralto Heidi Kurtz, tenor Timothy Bench, and bass Mark Moliterno. McLain has performed locally with Opera Lancaster and the Lemonade Concerts for Opera Lancaster. She has also taken part in the Dorothy Rose Smith Concert Series at Highland Presbyterian Church and the Crown Concert Series at Church of the Apostles. McLain has served as soprano soloist for “Messiah” at Calvary Church, for “The Holy City” with the Franconia-Lancaster Choral Singers, and for the Festival of Carols at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. She also directs the Westminster Strings. “This will be McLain’s first time singing with us,” noted Leaman. Leaman encourages vocalists who wish to take part to practice using the “Learn and Practice Your Voice Part” link at www.messiahsingalong.com. Music to use at the event may be rented or purchased by singers. The event is free and open to the public. A freewill offering will be received. Parish Resource Center To Bring McLaren To Lancaster By Ann Mead Ash
“Churches are always looking at (the question), ‘How do we continue to be the faith community that is relevant and important to the people who come and give time on Sunday morning?’” said Kate Good, executive director of the Parish Resource Center (PRC), 2160 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. The PRC works with 13 denominations to help answer questions like the one Good posed, and to that end, the organization will bring global activist and pastor Brian McLaren to Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster, on Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m. McLaren will speak on “The Changing Nature of the Christian Church.” According to Good, McLaren was chosen to speak based on what he can offer to churches. “We try to (present) leaders who
“Pool Party” Dance Posted On Saturday, April 13, the Ephrata American Legion Riders from Post 429 will hold a dance with a “Pool Party” theme at the American Legion Post 429, 300 Cocalico St., Ephrata. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the band will start playing at 8 p.m. A limited menu will be available until 9 p.m. The event will feature My Little Tony. Attendees are encouraged to wear summer attire, such as Hawaiian shirts, shorts, sundresses, flip flops, sunglasses, and more. Attendees should not wear bathing suits. Tickets will be discounted when purchased in advance and will be full price at the door. Proceeds will support the renovations on the downstairs banquet facilities at American Legion Post 429. are nationally recognized leaders (in the area of) faith,” said Good. “(McLaren) brings an approach to church that people are hungry for.” Good added that in McLaren’s arsenal of ideas are new ways of imagining church and what the church of the millennial worshipper looks like, based in part on his experience as pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church in Maryland, which was known for being innovative. McLaren is a graduate of the University of Maryland. He earned his Doctor of Divinity degree from Carey Theological College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Virginia Theological Seminary (Episcopal). In 1982, McLaren helped form Cedar Ridge Community Church, and in 1986, he became the church’s founding pastor. He served in that capacity until 2006. McLaren has been active in mentoring church planters and pastors. He speaks on a variety of topics including postmodern thought and culture. He has authored more than a dozen books,
including “A New Kind of Christianity” and “Naked Spirituality.” Good noted that in her experience with area churches, members and leaders are always looking for inspiration. “(McLaren) looks at the big questions facing the church - things that hold people back from becoming members and participating in church,” Good said. McLaren is known for helping congregations look at those questions in new ways. “He also talks about innovation and awareness of others’ traditions and understandings and (at) how they connect to Christian faith,” said Good. Good pointed out that McLaren’s talk should be helpful to all members of a church. “Faith leaders are an important part of this conversation, but all congregations are made up of people who are trying to figure out why church attendance is (lower) on Sunday morning or how to attract more young families,” she said. “Churches are looking at how (to) continue to be the faith community that is
relevant and important to the people who come and give time on Sunday morning.” Along with suggestions for church groups, Good believes McLaren has much to say about the individual faith experience. “(McLaren) talks about how to keep working at your own faith journey, which is an important question for any person of faith,” she stated. After speaking, McLaren will take time to connect with attendees. “There will be 15 to 20 minutes (for) questions and answers,” noted Good. “(The question-and-answer period will give attendees) a chance to ask specific questions that have been weighing on their minds and hearts,” she said. Speakers at past PRC events have attracted up to 1,200 attendees. Readers who would like to purchase tickets to hear McLaren may visit www.parishresourcecenter.org or call 717-299-1113. Tom Eshleman, the pastor of Groffdale Mennonite Church, serves as LMC’s global delegate, relating to international partners and overseeing the new international partner delegate system. International partner delegates are encouraged to raise their own funds for expenses. LMC also contacts the delegates’ church districts and other supporters to request funding. As funds are received, LMC manages the financial accounts for each delegate. On Feb. 15 and 16, the current delegates gathered with both LMC and Eastern Mennonite Missions (EMM) staff at Mennonite Central Committee’s Welcoming Place in Akron for an initial orientation. EMM staff provided resourcing for the orientation, covering topics such as ministry philosophies, histories of respective partners, missiological and anthropological resources, and pragmatic education on international partnerships.

LMC’s delegates will begin relating to those partner churches that are now autonomous. The delegate role involves maintaining regular communication with the partner, working with relevant EMM staff for joint trips, attending significant events of the partner, engaging with a new generation of the partner church’s leaders, coordinating visits to LMC regions from partners, and additional tasks. While delegates bring a wealth of relational value to these global relationships, they do not make decisions on financial matters. Instead, their primary functions are to listen and engage with faith, discipleship, and church life issues pertaining to LMC and the partner. Bucks Top Cedars in Baseball, Softball by Leah Sintic
After opening their season with two wins, the Buckskins experienced a stretch of three tough losses, but broke that streak with last Thursday’s win over Lebanon. The Bucks came out swinging in the 10-4 victory, racking up 13 hits against the Cedars, sending four runs over the plate in the second and never relinquishing the lead. Hitting highlights were plentiful; Jayden Taitano put up two hits in three quality at bats, Nathan Scheid added three hits with two RBIs, Jarrett
Imler and Carson Crouse each added a pair of RBIs, and Keegan Martin suppled two hits. Scheid got win, throwing four innings, striking out five. Wednesday, April 3, the club took a trip to LS where the Pioneers dealt them a 10-3 loss. The contest started well for the Bucks, thanks largely to Scheid, who drove in two runners in his first at bat of the day with a line drive to center. The Pioneers’ retaliation came slowly but surely, collecting runs in every inning but one, saving their biggest scoring surge for a five-run
bottom of the sixth. Gavin Horning cranked a triple in the sixth for CV, and completed his trip around the bases on a single from Scheid, who ended the day with two hits and three RBIs. Keegan Martin took the loss after five innings of work, including one strikeout and three walked batters. Monday night’s 8-2 loss to Solanco was a night of strong hitting on both sides with 20 hits split evenly between the two clubs, but it was the Mules who were able to capitalize, earning a 4-0 advantage after three at bats, and sustaining the lead through
all seven. Imler was saddled with the loss after five innings, striking out five and walking three over the course of five innings. “The team continues to work hard,” encouraged head coach Jeffrey Craig. “We need to sure up a few small areas on defense, but overall the guys are doing a nice job.” The previous Friday held a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Elizabethtown. The Bucks led early on, but the Bears leveled the score at four in the bottom of the fourth, and the teams remained in a deadlock into an extended eighth inning in which the Bears managed to slide the fifth run across for the walk-off win. Eddie Hernandez supplied three of CV’s eight hits, Crouse drove in two runs, and Airam Conde added an RBI. Scheid threw six innings for the Bucks, including two strikeouts and three walks. “We have a lot of senior leadership and they understand the game of baseball consists of ups and downs,”
explained Craig. “The guys continue to bring a positive attitude each day and are demonstrating growth in all areas of the game.” SOFTBALL Softball followed the same track record as baseball, registering losses to Elizabethtown, Solanco, and Lampeter-Strasburg, but rallying for a win over Lebanon. The Lady Bucks took down the Cedars quickly reaching the final score, 18-3, after only three innings. Sophomore Lexi Weitzel picked up her first varsity win, throwing two strikeouts and walking one. Olivia Mellinger led the offense with a triple and five RBI, and Alexcis Johns added a hit. Against Elizabethtown, CV registered a one-run lead that held until the top of the fourth, when the Bears caught fire and drove in eight runs, ultimately taking the game, 10-3. Montana Habecker did her part from inside the circle, throwing seven strikeouts and only walking two. Despite the loss, the CV club found
success at the plate with Laken Smith (3-4), Lexi Mellinger (3-4) and O. Mellinger (2-3) leading the way. “We had too many errors and no big hits with runners in scoring position,” explained head coach Larry Minney. In their 19-9 loss to Solanco on Monday, the CV club found themselves playing catch up after the Mules took control with a 6-0 lead after one inning. “We gave up 10 runs in the first two innings; after that it was a pretty even game” noted Minney. “We know we can hit, we just need to control our errors and stop giving up big innings.” Johns sparked a burst of momentum in the top of the second, delivering a well-placed two RBI single into right field, driving in teammates Habecker and Kahlan Ciardullo. The scoreboard read 12-3 before an action packed fifth inning, when CV bats started to connect, racking up six of their 10 hits in the frame, rewarding them with six runs and narrowing

Buckskin shortstop Michelle Lopez looks to throw to second after fielding a Solanco ground ball in CV’s 19-9 Section Two loss to the host Mares last Monday.
TENNIS In an action-packed week, CV topped Lampeter-Strasburg and Manheim Township by matching scores of 6-1, after falling to Cocalico by the same differential. The two wins boasted many similarities with Matthew Hoy, Luke Puleo, and Tegan Lapp picking up singles wins. Owen Horst/Hoy, and Puleo/Lapp also pulled in doubles points during both matches. Tuesday against LS, Nolan High supplied the sixth point in the CV win with his 7-5, 6-1 triumph in number four singles, and in Monday’s
the gap, 12-9. Unfortunately for the Buckskins, the Mules mirrored their efforts during the subsequent at bat, driving home seven runs on five hits, extending the lead to 10, enough to halt the contest at the bottom of the fifth. Smith’s bat was hot again picking up a triple and 2 RBIs, and Ciardullo went 2-3. The Wednesday night contest against LS resulted in a lopsided 13-0 scoreboard, but Habecker continued to be a CV highlight from the circle throwing delivering six strikeouts while only walking two.
clash with Township, High paired with Devin Gerety, and their 8-5 performance secured the CV doubles sweep. High and Gerety were also a highlight in the Cocalico match, besting their opponents, 8-6, to bring in CV’s lone win. “The boys are looking to improve each match, and in each set of every match,” explained head coach Dale Gregg. “One common thread is that each of our players tend to battle for every point, and we seem to be avoiding silly mistakes or giving away free points.” GIRLS’ LACROSSE With little time to recuperate, the girls’ lacrosse team bounced back after a 18-8 loss to Lancaster Country Day / Lancaster Catholic, to take down their next two opponents Conrad Weiser and Garden Spot, before slipping to Lampeter-Strasburg. Wednesday, April 3, CV hosted the Pioneers and came up just short,10-7. The Lady Bucks held the 6-4 advantage at the halfway mark, but the Pioneers upped their defensive game, holding the Bucks to only one second half goal while scoring six. Abigail Morley tallied four goals, and Hannah Chadwick, Madison Buckley,
and Taylor Zimmerman each netted one. Tuesday the team pulled out an exciting, 13-11, win at Garden Spot. “Our defense played well. We were able to slow down their main players,” noted head coach Mike Chadwick. “Natalie Kiel and Miah Miller worked hard to stop crease rolls and knocked down passes. Amanda Yingling and Olivia Hess have done well sliding and shutting down the top area of the crease,” he added. Goalie Anna Kollbotn scooped up four critical saves in the win, her efforts described as “tremendous” by Chadwick. Bella Silvaggio was tasked with marking Spot’s top scorer, Kiersten Ellsworth, which was key to limiting the Spartan’s effectiveness in the second half. “The defense has helped push our offense in transition and allowed us to create scoring opportunities,” elaborated Chadwick, pointing out Reese Lapp’s energy as a boost to the CV transition game. Ready to pounce on those openings was the Buckskin front line, led by five goals from Morley, four from Chadwick, and two apiece from Zimmerman and Haley Swartz. “When they played with patience, they were more effective, and scoring opportunities increased,” summarized Chadwick. In the previous 15-3 win over Conrad Weiser, the Buckskin scoring had a similar sequence; Morley again notched five, Chadwick four, Schwartz three, Zimmerman two, and Madison Buckley, one. Kollbotn held her ground in goal scooping up eight saves. BOYS’ LACROSSE The boys’ lacrosse team earned their first win last week, overcoming Wyomissing, before narrow losses to both Conrad Weiser and LampeterStrasburg. At Wyomissing, both clubs registered 21 shots on goal, but CV proved to be more accurate, prevailing 10-6, scoring in all four periods. Wyomissing got ahead early, so CV had to rally a comeback, sparked by back-to-back successful attacks. “We had to react. It took the individual efforts of Will Stone and Charles Braught, they scored consecutive goals that got us back into the game,” credited head coach Cameron Tough. “We started to put together the aspects

of the game we have worked on for the past couple weeks.” Brought finished the day with five goals, followed by two from Stone, and one apiece from Steven Emerson, Zachary Fisher, and Logan Weaver. In a tight, triple overtime 10-9 loss to Conrad Weiser, it was Ryan Querry that led the Buckskin offense, netting four goals, accompanied by two from Gage McClune, while Fisher, Stone, and Braught who each chipped in one. “We saw the same effort from our guys that we saw against Wyomissing in regards to coming back after an early goal deficit, but we couldn’t capitalize on opportunities on offense,” described Tough. Parker Graff worked the midfield, transitioning chances to advance the Buckskin offense. “We kept receiving more opportunities from our face off player, Parker,” noted Tough. “We have been working on putting the pieces together with our offense and taking advantage of the chances that we get.” Wednesday’s 6-5 loss to the Pioneers was once again as close as it could get, with CV working their way back from a 3-0 deficit to almost overtake LS in the
third period where they put in four of their five goals. Querry picked up a hat trick, while Braught and McClune each chipped in one goal. CV’s no-quit attitude was demonstrated in their 22 shots on goal, as well on the defensive end where goalie, Andrew Roland, snatched up six saves, bringing his total saves in the three contests to 20. VOLLEYBALL Boys’ volleyball picked up their first win of the season last week with a three-set sweep over McCaskey on Thursday (25-16, 25-13, 25-20). Carlos Barbosa’s seven kills and three aces paced the offense, with an additional seven kills from Robbie Krasinski, fed by 23 assists from Tanner Shertzer. Marco Gonzales supplied 11 digs, and Jayden Rice put up four blocks. Two days earlier the Bucks lost a battle against Hempfield. The Knights took charge early on in the three-set match (25-16, 25-22, 25-11), but the Bucks showed a fighting spirit, rallying for a close second set. Sawyer Shertzer led the team with 12 kills, 8 digs and a block, while T. Shertzer supplied 21 assists.

Event Will Explore Peacemaking
(EPHRATA MT. AREA)
PUBLIC AUCTION
An event focused on peacemaking will take place on Monday, April 15, at 7 p.m. at Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron. A panel of storytellers will share how faith has shaped their responses in times of conflict or crisis. The panelists will be Gerry Keener, Nancy Heisey, Ed Martin, and Tala Bautista. Keener has sought to live out a life of reconciliation through his life commitment to Christian ministry. He was profoundly shaped while serving as hospital administrator in South Vietnam until the end of the American war. During 19 years as pastor of Seventh Avenue Mennonite Church and executive director of Heartsease Home in New York City, cross-cultural and cross-ethnic relationships developed in him a respect for all peoples along with practical ways of dealing with daily conflicts. He later served for more than 12 years with Eastern Mennonite Missions in Vietnam. He currently serves as president of Eastern Mennonite Missions in Salunga. Heisey, who has taught biblical studies and church history for 20 years at Eastern Mennonite University, currently serves parttime as associate dean at Eastern Mennonite Seminary. Her life is shaped by a childhood among the Navajo people with Brethren in Christ missionary parents. She learned much from her years as a secondary school teacher under Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and by the two years she traveled with her husband,
