Creativity And Kindness Artists In Friends Supports Library, Benevolence Fund BY ANN MEAD ASH

nne Treadwell has founded a new group at Garden Spot Village (GSV). Called Artists in Friends, the dozen or so members, most of whom are artists, puts on art shows in the area, donating 20% of what it sells to an organization connected to the venue. Treadwell explained that the idea formed when she and her husband held a show at Sycamore Springs, a GSV neighborhood, a few years ago. Utilizing the Sycamore Springs clubhouse, Treadwell showed her watercolors and her husband’s birdhouses. All the funds were donated to the GSV Benevolent Fund to help residents whose care had exhausted their finances. Several art shows followed, with one taking on a “Christmas in July” theme and another held in the GSV pavilion to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions.

Most recently, Treadwell and fellow Artists in Friends group member Marie Diehl have filled the ELANCO Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, with their work, including watercolors and oil paintings. The artwork will be on display with items for sale until Wednesday, March 9. On Thursday, March 10, group member Jessie Fehrenbach will begin exhibiting her colorful collages in the space. Fehrenbach cuts up magazines to create works of art such as her “Low Tide on Cape Cod,” which is an ocean scene featuring a tiny likeness of President John F. Kennedy. “Whatever is in the magazine, I try to incorporate into the art,” said Fehrenbach, whose career in art began at age 55 when she took a watercolor class. “My husband said, ‘You need to paint every day,’” recalled Fehrenbach, whose other colorful works include a vibrant hydrangea.

Members of the Artists in Friends group hold exhibits at local venues and donate some of the sale proceeds to nonprofit organizations.

Response to invitations to the 2022 CrossNet banquet was brisk, and space was limited. The in-person banquet, which will be held on Tuesday, March 29, at the Shady Maple Banquet Center, has sold out. Links to the livestream event, which will begin at 7 p.m., are still available for purchase. Those who purchase a link will be instructed to pick up table supplies and a gift for each viewer at the CrossNet offices, 123 W. Franklin St., New Holland, during the week prior to the event. Dawkins, who played 16 seasons in the National Football League, spent three seasons with the Denver Broncos following his stint with the Eagles. Dawkins was named to nine Pro Bowls and five All-Pro first teams. He played in one Super Bowl with the Eagles and served as the team’s executive of football operations for player development. “Dawkins will share his story about what God has done in his life to encourage others to make an impact in their community,” said Dahl, who noted that Dawkins’ book, “Blessed by the Best My Journey to Canton and Beyond,” is a recent release. The theme of this year’s banquet is “Your Story. My Story. God’s Story.” Dahl noted that videos of three stories of local people who have interacted with CrossNet will be shared. “(The videos will show) how God is telling a story with their lives,” explained Dahl. “I think people will be encouraged to hear the stories of what is happening in the community and want to get involved in some way.” Dahl noted that CrossNet is in need of volunteers in several areas. In addition, Dahl will give an update on the ministry, including information on CrossNet’s housing project. Carl Edwards, director of development with CrossNet, will serve as master of ceremonies. “CrossNet encourages New Hollanders to attend virtually … to purchase local meals, and enjoy a wonderful evening at home with friends and family,” said Dahl, who hoped that area residents will consider hosting watch parties. “It will be an engaging (event). You don’t want to miss it,” she said, noting that area residents may join together with the community from the comfort of their own homes.

Former Eagles player Brian Dawkins will share his story at the CrossNet Ministries annual banquet.

Readers who wish to purchase the link may do so at www.elancocross.org or come into the office to make the purchase. Confirmation of purchase and instructions for picking up supplies will be sent. Individuals who have questions may email office@elancocross.org or call 717-355-2454.

show host, founded Turning Point USA with Bill Montgomery in 2012, and he currently serves as CEO of Turning Point Action and Turning Point Faith. Turning Point USA is a nonprofit organization with chapters promoting conservative values on high school, college, and university campuses. Dayspring headmaster Dan Stone said that organizers have been hoping to have Kirk participate in Remember America. “As I was praying through our short list (of speakers) … I felt education is prominent in people’s thinking right now,” said Stone. “It’s a great time to highlight how education is such an important part of what our country is going through.” Stone noted that it seemed natural to choose Kirk to speak on the importance of education in restoring the country to biblical values. The theme of this year’s event is “Faith. Courage. Liberty.” “It starts with faith (because) in today’s world, Christians are being put in a position where they will choose to be courageous or not,” said Stone. We are calling people to choose courage, and liberty will be the result.” Becker agreed, noting that the theme reflects the study of the country’s foundation, which is at the heart of Remember America. “We are reminding people (that) the founding documents of our nation and the writings of our founders … (had) a biblical world view,” said Becker. She also noted that the faith of the founders was applied to the building of the nation. “When you look at some of our founders and what they have written, you understand these were men of faith who were willing to stand and sacrifice,” she said. “Their faith inspired their courage, and what they endured established liberty like nothing else the world had ever seen.” Three types of tickets are available for the event. Readers may purchase tickets to the dinner and presentation, tickets to the gallery for the presentation only, or tickets to the presentation in a livestreamed format. Tickets are available at www.dayspringchristian.com or by calling the school at 717-285-2000.

“The mission (of Remember America) is to remind Americans of their unique heritage of liberty that was founded upon biblical principles,” said Dayspring Christian Academy events manager Lisa Becker. “Our hearts first need to be turned to the Lord, and that personal revival extends from us to our family to our community to our state to our nation.” The 2022 Remember Amer-

ica Speaker Series will feature Turning Point USA president and founder Charlie Kirk as the keynote speaker. This year’s presentation, which will include chorale performances and an orator, will be held at the Lancaster County Convention Center, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster, on Saturday, April 23. The dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The keynote speech, which will begin at 7:15 p.m., will be followed by a brief question and answer period. Kirk, an activist and radio

points while both Nicole Zeiset and Morgan Pavelik poured in seven points each. SWIMMING Zach Delgado, Peter Hasse and Kayla Parry qualified for two events each for the District Three Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships to be held on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5 at Cumberland Valley High School. “This is a great accomplishment for Garden Spot and these dedicated, hardworking swimmers,” said Spot swim coach Darin Parry. The highest seed among the three swimmers is Kayla Parry’s for both the 100-yard butterfly as well as the 200 individual medley. She is the second seed in both. Hasse has earned fourth seed (2:06.84) in the boys’ 200 IM and fifth (1:03.09) in the 100 breaststroke while Delgado is 14th seed in the 100 butterfly and 19th in the 100 freestyle. “These athletes demonstrate hard work, discipline and commitment,” Parry emphasized. “Competitive swimming is a grind. Her hard work qualified her to compete at districts.” Hasse’s time of 2:06.84 was also lower than the entry time of 2:10.44 in the league championship meet for the 200 IM. “He cut 3.60 seconds and he finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.89, which was a drop of 1.63 seconds from the entry time,” Parry noted. “Zach Delgado was new to the team this year,” continued the coach. “He had a strong showing at the league championship meet and cut his time in both events.”

Red Cross Seeks Volunteers The American Red Cross invites community members to become volunteers. Local volunteers enable the Red Cross to support its community and neighbors in need every day. In the last year, Greater Pennsylvania Red Cross volunteers provided aid, including food and shelter, to over 6,300 people affected by home fires and other disasters in Pennsylvania. Among the available volunteer positions are a transportation specialist and Disaster Action Team members. Transportation specialists are the link between blood donors and blood recipients. They deliver blood, platelets, and other blood products to processing centers and to hospitals for patient use. Each day, people are forced from their homes due to fires, storms, and other disasters. Disaster Action Teams meet the disastercaused needs of individuals and households, such as lodging and clothing, and connect people with longterm recovery services. Training is free. To learn more, visit www.redcross .org/volunteertoday. COVID-19 vaccination is required for in-person volunteer roles. When considering volunteer opportunities, individuals should review the CDC guidance for people who are at higher risk for severe illness, consult their health care provider, and follow local guidance.

AMT Nominated For Theater Of The Year The Academy of Country Music announced the nominations for the 57th Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards on Feb. 10. Lancaster County’s American Music Theatre (AMT) was selected as a nominee in the Theater of the Year category. This marks the second time that AMT has been honored with an ACM nomination. One of five venues in the nation competing for the award, AMT is the only theater in Pennsylvania to be nominated this year. Other nominees are Andrew J. Brady ICON Music Center, Cincinnati, Ohio; Blue Gate Performing Arts Center, Shipshewana, Ind.; Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, Fla.; and Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, Tenn. Known for its wide variety of performances, AMT features both touring concerts and original shows. Since 1997, the 1,600-seat venue has hosted numerous legendary country artists such as Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Vince Gill, Alabama, George Jones, Randy Travis, Merle Haggard, Charlie Daniels and Marty Stuart along with some of today’s stars like Scotty McCreery, Josh Turner, Jennifer Nettles, Trace Adkins, Chris Janson, Martina McBride and Gary Allan. AMT has also hosted five of this year’s award nominees: Miranda Lambert, Chris Young, Little Big Town, Tenille Arts and Lily Rose. Theater of the Year nomination criteria involves industry reputation and includes buying or promoting at least 10 country concerts/dates during the eligibility period, remaining in good standing with all agents and helping to promote country ticket sales. This year’s winner will be announced during the Academy of Country Music Honors, a special event held annually in August at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The ACM Awards live show will take place on Monday, March 7, at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will livestream exclusively on Prime Video.
