Following God’s Lead Julie Baum, supporter relations director of Align Life Ministries, is clear on how the organization, which first opened in 1985 as Susquehanna Valley Pregnancy Services, has come to be called Align Life Ministries. “The short answer is, ‘It was God’s idea.’” The long answer is a little more complicated. “First, God taught us the importance of having the word Align in our name,” explained Baum, who added, “When you align your heart and mind with Him, life springs forth.” She also noted that

Rozanna Leever and her husband, Steve (not pictured), are the new owners of the Little Red Schoolhouse.
The event was hosted by the school’s new owners, Rozanna and Steve Leever, who opened the Red School Learning Lab at the site in September. Steve and Rozanna own the farm behind the school, and Rozanna’s greatgrandfather, grandfather, father and aunts and uncles all attended the school, which was known as the Maxwell Hill School. Steve taught history and coached football at Garden Spot High School, and Rozanna served for four years on the ELANCO school board. According to www.redschool learninglab.com/history, the oneroom school was built in 1857 by David Mast, who owned the farm behind the school. Most recently, the building served as the Amish Mennonite Information Center, which opened in 1970. Steve and Rozanna bought the school in the summer of 2020. “The walls are original, and all the floors are, too. There was a lot of repair work,” said Rozanna. “Friends came and helped us paint.”

During 2020 when COVID19 restrictions were isolating people from each other, Global Disciples, an organization based in Lancaster, decided to find a way to bring them together. “In the midst of the pandemic, we said, ‘Is there a way for us to gather online and worship God? To gather all across the globe and express our unity in Christ?’” said global worship specialist Tim Bentch. Bentch said the virtual event, NationsWorship, is significant because it crosses cultural, political, and international boundaries. “It’s a chance for believers to stand together as one, and we won’t allow different perspectives and other COVID divisions to come between us,” he said. For 25 years, Global Disciples has worked with clusters of churches in Africa, Asia, and the Americas to train members of churches in those areas to be missionaries in their homelands. “Our goal is to help people come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior by working through local churches that are closer to

those unreached areas,” explained Bentch. The 2020 event involved videos, Zoom, and livestream technology to bring people together. For 2021, NationsWorship will also include a live component, which will be held at DOVE Westgate Church, 1755 W. Main St., Ephrata, on Friday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. The event will be livestreamed and also broadcast again at 10:30 p.m. The video will be available on demand through Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022. According to Bentch, the event will include videos from a number of cultures around the world. “It’s a chance for the church here in America to worship (along) with unique expression of worship from Africa and Asia,” said Bentch. “The worship may come from a village of brand-new believers, and it may be very simple - just clapping and singing,” he said. “Those are parts that really move my heart.” Bentch also described a modern worship song, “Glory to the Righteous One,” which is being written for the event by James and Daniella, a couple in Rwanda who are musicians

and worship leaders. “On that song, I am working with people in India, Mexico, Nepal, and Ethiopia and videotaping them singing along on the chorus,” said Bentch. Bentch said that the 2021 NationsWorship is based on Isaiah 24:16, which reads in part, “From the farthest part of the earth comes the sound of songs.” “(There will be) all these voices coming together and worshiping God as one,” said Bentch, who noted that the DOVE worship team will lead several songs and that a diverse worship choir is being
created for the event, which Bentch noted has become important for the international partners. “They told us last year, ‘This is the first time we really felt connected,’” explained Bentch, “and we are honored to worship together with our brothers and sisters from diverse places of the world.” DOVE Westgate in Ephrata can accommodate 900 worshipers. Those wishing to attend NationsWorship live are asked to visit http://global disciples.org/nationsworship to register prior to the event.

Schoolhouse from pg 1 Because the school had no indoor bathroom, a handicapped-accessible bathroom was added to the back of the building. This required breaking through the school’s solid stone wall to add the extra room. “ We thought about adding (the rest room) onto the side of the building, but then it would not look like a one-room schoolhouse, so we made an extension across the whole back,” Rozanna noted. Among the students on hand at the event was Fannie Stoltzfus Beiler of Gap, who attended the school from 1946 to 1954. “We did prayer, Bible reading and hymns every day before class,” she recalled, noting students also played baseball on the school grounds. Those in attendance at the open house also recalled making baked potatoes in the school’s pot-bellied stove. Other points of interest about the school include the fact that Mary Lincoln, who taught at Maxwell Hill School
for nine consecutive terms, was married to Samuel Lincoln, a second cousin to President Abraham Lincoln. Mary and Abe exchanged letters while the president was in office. During Mary’s tenure, children’s book author Marguerite De Angelis visited the school and afterward wrote “Henner’s Lydia,” which was published in 1936. Many of the characters and settings in the book come from her visit to the school. The school was also featured in a July 1941 issue of National Geographic. During the 1939-40 school term, 39 of the 47 students had the last name Stoltzfus, and the teacher was named Ada Stoltzfus. “We knew we had to buy (the building). My husband and I are both educators, and we wanted to make it a school (again),” Rozanna said. “I’m glad that even though it has been quite a process, we did it.” The Red School Learning Lab, 2667 W. She added that classes are tailored to clients’ needs and may include videos, information on infant care, and prayer. The Gospel is proclaimed in words throughout the program. Parenting classes offer material for parents of children from birth through age 12. Clients may be served in person or virtually. “Ephrata is unique in that there is not another center close by,” said Keretzman, who noted as many as 20 clients a week visit the center. “We see people from the other side of New Holland,” she said. Baum noted that services are also available for those who have terminated a pregnancy. “We have Bible studies and one-on-one conversations,” she noted. During 2020, the ministry became acquainted with more than 500 new area families when the organization’s stockpile of diapers, baby wipes, and formula was needed by young families unable to obtain those items. “We offered a week’s worth of free baby supplies at a time,” explained Baum, who recalled porch pickups and deliveries to families. “What a blessing to reach people spiritually and to meet physical needs.” Information about Align Life Ministries’ services may be found at https://align lifeministries.org.

Senior Connections from pg 1 with WorldVenture for 15 years in the suburbs of Paris. In May, the Martins moved back to the Morgantown area, where Jeremiah was born and raised, and in September, Jeremiah began his role as lead pastor. The couple began its presentation by playing a game of “France Jeopardy,” during which attendees were asked to answer trivia questions in various categories. For example, the “French in English” category highlighted French phrases that are used in the United States such as “bon voyage” and “a la mode,” which is used in the name of the American dish “pie a la mode” - ice cream served on pie. “French people would not have ice cream with their pie because that would be like having two desserts as one,” said Shaelagh. She talked about perception versus reality when it comes to France. For example, while people may be familiar with the Eiffel Tower, they may not know it is patrolled by armed guards. While France is known for its quaint villages, many people live in high-rise apartments outside the city. France is also known for its outdoor cafes, which serve baguettes, but now the French bread can be found in vending machines, which are filled daily by local bakeries.
Jeremiah reported that the main religious group in France is Catholic and only 2% of French people are Protestants. “There are approximately 3,000 Protestant churches in France; 30 of them are Mennonite,” he reported. “About 1,000 would be main-line Protestant and the others would be more evangelical or Baptist-type denominations . . . the number of Protestant churches has doubled since 1970. There is a momentum of the church growing.” The French church where Jeremiah pastored operated out of a storefront and then later in a conference room at a hotel. The church finally found its permanent home in a warehouse. Members of the Conestoga Mennonite Church congregation traveled to France to help with creating the new church space at the warehouse. In addition to pastoral ministry, Jeremiah worked in the French university system as an English teacher and graduate student, while Shaelagh created curricula for the Institute of Applied Evangelical Theology. “Our goals were to build up the church and to share our faith,” Jeremiah said. Senior Connections meets at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St. (Route 23), Morgantown, on the second Thursday of each month.

Pastor Jeremiah Martin and his wife, Shaelagh, discussed their missionary work in France during a meeting of Senior Connections.
Each meeting features a homemade lunch served at noon, prepared by Lois Ann Mast with the help of other church volunteers, followed by a program. Programs are organized by Wesley and Lois Boyer. November’s meeting will feature a Thanksgiving meal. December’s program will feature a performance of Christmas music by students from Conestoga Christian School. The program and lunch are free, but donations are accepted.

During Trains & Troops, an array of military and military railroad service-related vehicles, uniforms, equipment, field gear, maps, books, photographs, memorabilia and collectibles will be on display from participating exhibitors, as well as items from the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania’s archives. Throughout the museum, visitors also will encounter military, civilian and railroader living history re-enactors from various eras in U.S. history. The event will offer information on a variety of topics, including World Wars I and II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War and the
home front. Trains & Troops activities are included in the regular museum admission. Proceeds from Trains & Troops benefit the nonprofit Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Trains & Troops exhibitors and activities may be subject to change without notice. Additionally, the museum is accepting new and unwrapped toys, books and games again this year on behalf of children who benefit from the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. The Occupational Development Center (ODC) announced that it has received a $10,000 capacity building grant from the Lancaster County Community Foundation (LCCF). These grants support projects that build an organization’s capacity to fulfill its mission toward sustainability and success. This grant will make it possible for the ODC to realize its longtime goal of purchasing high-quality video equipment and software for the purpose of helping its participants acquire competitive and integrated employment within the community. The ODC provides highquality vocational training and employment for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). It seeks to transition participants to supported employment within the community. Helping these individuals gain skills, earn a paycheck, and find employment sets them on a path toward greater independence. In addition to creating video resumes, the ODC also plans on using the grant to create an ongoing series of employment scenario training videos for prospective employers. These videos will help local businesses understand what it means to hire an individual with I/DD.
VARIETY SALE
While the ODC trains individuals to make them more employable, the scenario training videos will be intended to help prospective employers create and sustain disability-friendly workplaces. This two-pronged approach is intended to set both ODC participants and employers up for lasting success. To learn more, contact Ken Mueller at 717-397-4269, ext. 16, or kenm@odcenter.org or visit www.odcenter.org.

The information affected would include patient name, date of birth, and a graph reflecting the results of the visual field test. Walmart has no indication that the information has been misused in any way. Walmart is continuing to review the facts and circumstances surrounding this matter and is evaluating whether additional safeguards can help prevent this type of incident from occurring in the future. Although Walmart has no indication that the information has been accessed by unauthorized individuals or is likely to be misused, Walmart is sending individual notices to affected patients regarding this incident.
