After several years of forgoing a fall theatrical performance, for a variety of reasons, Josh Martin, director of the Garden Spot Performing Arts (GSPA) upcoming production, chose a family-friendly adaptation of a show he called “fun, funny, and suspenseful in a comedic way.”
“Clue” - based on the Hasbro board game and the 1985 moviewill be presented in the Stan Deen Auditorium at Garden Spot High School (GSHS), 669 E. Main St., New Holland, on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. each night. One-price general admission tickets to the play will be available in the lobby one hour before showtime.

“It’s a good parody. It knows what it’s imitating, and it does it really well.”
While the board game offers players multiple endings, the play does come to a complicated, but plausible, conclusion. “All the characters are assembled in a creepy mansion on a dark and stormy night, and they are trying to figure out who killed Mr. Boddy, (played by Ashton Martin),” explained Josh. “It’s hysterical.”
The GSHS National Honor Society will hold a catered dinner,
Set in the 1950s, the classic whodunit brings together six guests invited by Mr. Boddy. In an isolated New England location, the strangers are each given false

In her quest to bring lessons from the Fruits of the Spirit, found in Galatians 5:22-23, to both children and adults, Shelleen Weaver has published five books known as “Fruit Fables.” The latest, “Clamord is Kind,” is focused on kindness.
Told in rhyme, the book begins with the lines, “There is a place that nature hides, where marsh and forest trees collide, where streams
are clear, and sky is wide.” In this marsh setting, Weaver tells the tale of a boisterous mallard who seeks to join his fellow fowl in song. Alas, Clamord’s beautiful noise is not appreciated. “Clamord is an oblivious disrupter, and he was annoying. He interfered with the birds’ space,” noted Weaver, who added that Clamord did so unintentionally. While the story explores how a member of society who does not quite measure up is ostracized, it concludes

The third annual Lancaster Prayer Breakfast was held at Shady Maple on Nov. 1. As in the past, the event was organized to focus on prayer in several vital areas - business, government, arts/ entertainment/media, education, nonprofit organizations, family, and the church.
Tracey Jones, president of Tremendous Leadership and T3 Solutions, welcomed the gathering and invited those present to join in worship led by Daniel Seiz, worship pastor with Worship Center, Lancaster.
“Prayer is the power source for the body of Christ,” Jones pointed out. “The Lancaster Prayer Breakfast endeavors to further the rich heritage and spiritual values handed down by the founding fathers.” Seven community leaders were asked to speak and pray concerning a specific area with which they had experience.
Ed Herr, CEO of Herr Foods, offered the prayer for the business community. “We have an incredible opportunity to be humbled by God’s greatness and to realize daily that He’s in charge,” said Herr. “That relieves all my stress to

names - Miss Scarlet, played by Lila Albertson; Mrs. Peacock, played by Jenna Zueno; Mrs. White, played by Morgan Watt; Colonel Mustard, played by Sean Sexton; Professor Plum, played by Hunter Moua; and Mr. Green, played by Jack Harmer. The guests are joined at the mansion by Wadsworth, the butler, played by Luke Canales; Yvette, the maid, played by Alida Gauthier; and the cook, played by Bri Remlinger. Other cast members include the motorist, played by Andre Ramirez, and the chief of police, played by Ryan Miller.
According to Josh, many of the 16 cast members were familiar with the game or the movie. Challenges of staging the play have included encouraging cast members to play adults who may be two or three times the students’ ages, along with transporting themselves back to the late 1950s while in character. The pace of the action is a challenge as well. “There is a lot of physical comedy, and it’s fast moving,” noted Josh, who added that the large stage crew will be very busy throughout the show. “I think there are 14 scene changes in 90 minutes,” reported Josh, adding that the action moves from the hall to the lounge to the billiard room. “There’s a choreography to dragging corpses around the stage,” he explained.
“It’s a good parody,” Josh noted, pointing out that the “almost campy” mystery is not short on laughs. “It knowns what it’s imitating, and it does it really well,” he said.
Josh predicted that audience members will find enjoyment in the one-act comedy, saying, “There is no moral. It’s a night of good fun.”

with the hero using his own talents to help those who have shunned him, and seeing his acts of kindness are celebrated by his new feathered friends.
In the book’s dedication, Weaver gives thanks to her now13-year-old son, Adrian, whose nightly demands for bedtime stories when he was very small led to the creation of her fables.
“(Adrian) forced me to hone the craft (of storytelling),” shared Weaver. She asked Adrian to jumpstart each night’s story by giving her an animal and the animal’s name to inspire her creativity. “I have no idea where he came up with the name ‘Clamord,’” recalled Weaver, but she noted that her son always asked that the animal be a dog.
“I thought to myself, ‘Clamord is not a dog. He sounds like a clamorous mallard duck,’” pointed out Weaver.
As a conscientious mother, Weaver said she could not let her fables be just about fun.
“(Adrian was) making me work to tell a story, but if I (was) going to work, (he was) getting a lesson (wrapped in the story),” explained Weaver. “I was using it as an opportunity to shape
him because I’m a mom.” To aid parents who read her books to their children in using the lessons contained therein, each book ends with “Let’s Chew On It,” a series of questions that examine the concepts in the book. Questions following Clamord’s tale ask about the birds’ attitudes toward other creatures joining in their symphony, their response to Clamord’s attempts to sing, and how Clamord seized an opportunity to use his skills to show kindness. The questions conclude with, “What skills or abilities do you have that you could use to show kindness?”
Weaver’s previous books have each explored a Fruit of the Spirit. Her first book, “Love Bird,” about a bird that rudely repeats
everything that is said to him, came out in 2020. In late 2021, Weaver released “Glub Glum’s Ship Flip,” about a fish she called “a bottom feeder” with “victim mentality pessimism.”
“Sir Beaver Finds the Missing Peace” tackles workaholism with poetry that evokes pictures and lessons for adults and children.
“Grizz Bear & Skippy Cricket,” released in January, tells the tale of a ferocious and impatient bear whose winter hibernation is interrupted by an bothersome cricket.
As with all Weaver’s “Fruit Fables,” the book uses Cody Wood’s illustrations, which anthropomorphize the creatures with clothing and humanlike expressions. “I love how (Wood) put a turtle in a turtle
neck,” said Weaver with a chuckle. More information about “Fruit Fables” is available under “Books” at www.shelleenweaver.com. Readers who sign up for email updates will receive Clamord coloring pages, a song from one of Weaver’s albums - she’s also a recording artist - and her fruit salad recipe called “Amish Delight.”

International Christmas in Intercourse
BY ANN MEAD ASH
Members of the Intercourse Merchants Association (IMA) have planned something new for the 27th annual Intercourse Village Holiday Celebration. “We’ve taken what we’ve had over the past 26 years, and we are embellishing it with a German Christmas market,” explained IMA member Carl Kosko.
Fellow IMA member Mike Sensenig described how a dozen sheds donated by Lapp Structures
will be set in a circle on the grass in front of the Intercourse Library, 31 Center St., Intercourse. A variety of crafters will occupy the sheds under a Christmas light display designed by Tim Ober, who previously designed displays at Dutch Wonderland. “He is decorating the facility to look like a carousel,” said Sensenig, who noted the library’s gazebo will be incorporated into the plan.
With the German Christmas market or Christkindlmarkt, as the centerpiece, IMA will host the cele -

know that God’s in charge.” He went on to state, “It
Congressman Lloyd Smucker delved into the history of the 1787 Constitutional Congress in Philadelphia, where delegates worked on the Articles of Confederation, and he shared about Ben Franklin’s call for daily prayer during that event. Smucker asked, “What are we called to do besides pray?” and he answered, “God calls us to be an influence in all areas of life. … Our government, our society, and our community will be impacted by what we choose to do and what we choose not to do.”
This year, Kim Miller of Sight & Sound Theatre was asked to pray for the arts/entertainment/media area. She began by acknowledging the power of media over all humans. “I believe the world is crying out for truth,” she stated. “In a world that is so lost and hurting, we have the answers,” she continued. “We have the life people are looking for.”
Keith Garner, head of school at Lititz
Area Mennonite School, led prayers in the area of education. Garner immediately noted that prayers would be offered for both private and public schools. “Education is at its heart a sacred task,” Garner said. “I ask you to lift up every teacher, every student, every family, and every school (asking for) God’s guidance, His protection, and His peace acknowledging He is present in every classroom.”
Prayer for nonprofit organizations was an addition to this year’s prayer breakfast. Peter Greer, CEO of HOPE International and author of “Lead With Prayer,” took to the podium to pray for area ministries and other organizations. “In Lancaster County, let’s not grow weary of doing good, both here and beyond,” said Greer, who noted the challenges of helping others. “Pray for renewed strength for those who might be growing

LCBA members discussed ways to increase membership, especially among younger people. It was reported that tickets for the Oct. 6 bingo event were sold out. weary … for renewed visions and integration of faith in action.” He also asked for prayers for a spirit of unity. “We’re on the same team … and we serve a God of abundance, not scarcity,” he stated. Greer also pointed out that Christ chose prayer as the most important thing to do the night before he went to the cross.
Bruce McCracken, founder of The Marriage Hub, prayed for the area of family. McCracken pointed out that God’s role as Father is repeatedly under attack by the enemy. “God wants our Christian marriages to be a beacon of His sacrificial, unconditional, unbreakable, and saving love to a lost and dying world,” he said. Pointing to the power of prayer to counter these attacks, he specifically asked for prayers for husbands and wives, children, single-parent families, and blended families.
The list of prospective donation recipients was finalized. A first round of donations was to be sent out within the month. A second round of donations will be distributed in December.
At the LCBA’s Oct. 15 meeting, Edward Nissley gave a presentation on the 2025 changes to Medicare and Medicare Advantage. The October donation contributions totaled $11,800. At the November meeting, members will finalize the next round of distributions. The Christmas party was discussed at the October meet-
Beau Eckert, senior pastor of Calvary Church, Lancaster, offered prayers for the church, saying “God sustains and continues to build His church in times of peace and persecution, and He isn’t going to stop.” Eckert asked attendees to pray that “pastors and churches would continue to preach the Gospel and equip their people to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this fallen and broken world.”
As each speaker finished, attendees were asked to pray in groups at their individual tables. This year, prayers that could be used for each topic were printed in a booklet.
The 2024 prayer breakfast was attended by nearly 540 people - an increase of 100 over the 2023 attendance. Next year’s breakfast will be held on Friday, Nov. 7. Readers who would like more information may visit www.lancasterprays.com.
