A Terre Hill Holiday Christmas In The Park Planned BY ANN MEAD ASH
erre Hill’s Christmas in the Park meets the mission requirements of the Terre Hill Days committee that organizes the event. First, the event raises funds to help maintain and improve the park, located at 210 Lancaster Ave., Terre Hill. Second, according to organizer John Styer, it provides a holiday treat for area residents.
T
“Terre Hill Days committee’s goal is to provide events for the community that are fun, affordable, and community minded,” said Styer. This year’s Christmas in the Park will be held on Friday, Dec. 3; Saturday, Dec. 4; and Sunday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 9 p.m. each day. Styer noted that the display will feature about 15 new lighted scenes, with the focus being a safari and jungle area.
Admission to the event is free, but the lighted trail, which offers a live Nativity from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening, will be by suggested donation. A golf cart will be available to help those with mobility issues enjoy the lighted scenes. Other outdoor activities designed to delight people of all ages will include live ice carving on Dec. 3 and 4, mini golf, and fire pits. “In Christmas Village, we will
have artisan s’mores,” said Styer, who added that the sweet treats will be created for purchase from milk and dark chocolate with a sprinkle of sea salt on a handmade graham cracker. Specialty hot chocolate, along with waffles on a stick in multiple holiday flavors, will also be available to purchase. Outdoor entertainment will feature a different musical group each night on the Christmas Tree Plaza
stage. On Dec. 3, the Mount Zion worship team will play. On Dec. 4, Bailey Fulginiti Trio will perform, and on Dec. 5, Jeff Krick Jr. will present an Elvis-themed Christmas show. Bands that will be featured in Christmas Village include Holiday Horns and the Cherrywood String Ensemble. Live ice-carving demonstrations will be given beside the main food pavilion on Dec. 3 and 4. A Silent Night … A Holy Night Travel The Road To Bethlehem At Woodcrest BY ANN MEAD ASH
“This is the second year in a row we have a brand-new scene,” said Adam Fox, summer camp director at Woodcrest Retreat. Last year, Journey to Bethlehem organizers added a final scene featuring the wise men. It was so well received that another change was made for 2021. See Woodcrest Retreat pg 2
The tree lighting will be one of the highlights of New Holland’s Christmas on Main event.
The New Holland Business Association has scheduled the 14th annual Christmas on Main event in downtown New Holland on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The activities will close North and South Roberts Avenue and a section of Main Street. Plans include an outdoor Christmas market, food vendors, a car show, carriage rides, and a visit from Santa and tree lighting. Christmas on Main, which has become a tradition in New Holland, is a family-friendly event that kicks off the holiday season with activities that are free and open to the public.
Highlights of the day will include the Christmas Market in the New Holland Ambulance parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local vendors will sell a variety of items, including gifts, food for holiday entertaining, and Christmas decorations. Santa will be at the New Holland Area Historical Society Museum, 207 E. Main St., New Holland, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food vendors will be located on South Roberts Avenue from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Among these will be the New Holland Lions Club, Boy Scout troops and Cub Scout packs, See NHBA pg 5

Actors who will take part in Journey to Bethlehem include (from left) Gregg Gattuso, Natalie Klees, and Micah Martin.
“At the beginning of the show, Mary has learned she is pregnant, and she is wrestling with that and the social consequences of that,” said Fox of the new scene. He explained Joseph and Mary will be together and discuss the ramifications of Mary’s role as an unwed mother in first-century Palestine. “We want the audience to feel the emotions that Mary and Joseph would have felt,” said Fox. Now in its 11th year, Journey to Bethlehem differs from other live Nativity presentations because participants are given the opportunity to become part of the Christmas
story as they follow Mary and Joseph from the time they receive the news that Mary will give birth to the Christ child to the arrival at the stable where Christ was born and beyond. The 2021 event will be held at the retreat center, 225 Woodcrest Drive, Ephrata, on Fridays, Dec. 10 and 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays, Dec. 11 and 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The live Nativity is interactive in that adults and children who attend may participate in specific scenes. As they travel with the characters from the Bible, participants will witness the walk to Bethlehem, where they will experience the disappointment of finding there is
no room at the inn. The journey will also take attendees to a marketplace, where they may spend a shekel to purchase raisins or crackers, and then to a field, where they will gather with shepherds to hear the angels announce Christ’s birth. Finally, visitors will arrive at a stable to see the Christ child in the manger. The final stop is now a live presentation that takes place in the palace of one of the wise men. Fox noted that about 3,000 people attended the 2020 event. Because Journey to Bethlehem is held mostly outside and participants are divided into small groups, it was not too difficult to abide by COVID-19 restrictions last year. The cost

Food items available for purchase at the event will include soups, sandwiches, desserts, funnel cakes, pulled pork nachos, and french fries. Activities that will take place in the community center on Main Street will include free children’s crafts, gingerbread cookie decorating for a nominal cost, and visits with Santa. Horse-drawn carriage rides, which Styer noted are “very popular,” will be held in the park, as will a kids holiday train ride through the lights. Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to pick up a map with a list of homes participating in the Terre Hill Christmas decorating competition. Styer said visitors are welcome to vote for their favorite houses at www.terrehilldays.com. Winners will be announced before Christmas. Styer said the committee hopes to have another successful event in 2021. “Last year, we had good attendance, and we are anticipating seeing lots of return visitors and hopefully new guests to experience our Christmas festivities,” he said. He added that times for some activities may vary and recommended that those who plan to attend check https://terrehill days.com/christmas-in-the -park for specific information.
