Hershey Lions Club Supports Community ith traditional meetings, service projects, and fundraisers paused due to COVID-19, the Hershey Lions Club continues to support the residents of Derry Township, as well as others across the United States and globally. Recently, the Hershey Lions Club supported the local Cocoa Packs Holiday Toy Drive. The initiative helps disadvantaged children receive Christmas presents. To support the effort, club members and friends donated new, unwrapped gifts along with monetary donations worth more than $500. “The Hershey Lions Club strives to collaborate with other local organizations to help Derry Township
W
residents,” shared current club president Steve Gallerizzo. “Together, we can strengthen youth development and the community we serve by working cooperatively to bring about significant change.” Earlier in December, the Hershey Lions Club also arranged to provide meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House during December and January. This marks the fifth year that the club has provided this service for the families, whose children are receiving treatment at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center - Penn State Children’s Hospital. Due to COVID-19, club members will not be able to serve the meals as in the past.
Dinners will again be prepared by Dafnos Italian Grille of Hummelstown.

Linn Wins Spelling Bee The girls were among the school’s top 18 spellers competing in the bee. The other spellers were Jacob Sholder, Lucia Shertzer, Ben Velez, Neli Rodriguez, Olivia Fureman, Silas Wright, Nova Mayer, Dylan Kreiss, Riley Gonzalez, Alexis Stump, Lily Mayer, Keaton Wagner, Riley Beers, Kameron Flynn, and Maddy Fureman. Due to COVID-19, the bee looked different this year with the spellers wearing masks and sitting 6 feet apart on the stage. They only removed their masks to spell and then wiped down the microphone
with disinfectant wipes after their turn. There was no audience for the bee, although it was livestreamed by the high school’s Falcon Broadcast Channel so parents could watch their students spell. The students will next take a semifinal written test in the hope of earning a spot in the WITF Central Pennsylvania Spelling Bee, which will be held in February. Top spellers on the written test will participate in the televised the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee, which then can lead to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Attention Arthritis Sufferers...
Exclusive Arthritis Workshop Reveals The 3 Keys to Feel Younger and Feel Stronger Naturally Without Aches, Pains and Stiffness Do you feel like your life is on hold because of everyday aches and pains? Do you have trouble walking, doing stairs or standing for long periods? Do you feel like you need to take a rest when you’re trying to keep up with your family (kids and grandkids)…or even keep up with your dog? Have you been told that your stiff, swollen, achy joints are “bone-on-bone” and there’s nothing you can do about it? Are you looking to stay active? Feel normal again? Feel younger and stronger naturally without medications, injections or surgery? If you are looking to feel younger and feel stronger naturally, then going to the Arthritis Workshop may be one of the best decisions you make. Arthritis can cause you to feel pain, stiffness, and achy…making it difficult to move… even with everyday activities. Arthritis can stop you from feeling normal. • It can force you to take pain medications, Ibuprofen, or even get cortisone injections (which are known to cause other health problems). • Everyday activities like walking, driving, doing stairs, housework or even sleeping can feel difficult to impossible to perform. (Especially in the morning when you first get out of bed). • You can feel irritated, upset or uncomfortable trying to keep up with your family or friends. • You might feel like you’re neglecting your yard, house or garden… • Arthritis can distract you from focusing on what you’re doing (forgetting why you went to the store…or what you were going to do). • And it can take away from your ability to live a normal life…feeling like you have to depend on other people…or having them wait on you while you “just sit for a minute.” Less movement and less living can lead to depression, stress and a life of sitting. Not good. Here at Madden Physical Therapy, we’ve helped thousands of arthritis sufferers from right here in Harrisburg…and the rest of Central PA…who have suffered needlessly with arthritis…it’s our specialty. Most were experiencing pain, aching or stiffness in their back, neck, hips, knees and shoulders…and were looking for natural treatments… By request to help arthritis sufferers, I’m hosting an Arthritis Workshop right here at Madden Physical Therapy in Lower Paxton on Wednesday, January 20th at 7:00 p.m. If you’re confused about what to do and looking for answers, here’s some of what you’ll learn: • The Single Biggest #1 Mistake arthritis sufferers make which actually stops them from healing… • The 2 Most Common Types of Arthritis… • A Sure-Fire Way to Pick the Right Treatment for the Cause of Your Pain (and save you a ton of time and money) • Why your joints feel stiff in the morning…and what you can do about it. • What successful treatment and permanent relief looks like without the side effects of medications, injections or surgery. How Do I Claim My Seat for the Arthritis Workshop? Call 717-210-9945 to Register for the Arthritis Workshop and Claim Your Seat. When you register, we will mail you The Arthritis Worksheet which you will bring with you to the event. Because of limited space, we only have 20 seats available for the event…and this announcement will be going out to over 9,000 people who’ve been treated at Madden PT PLUS sent to an audience of 41,000 people on Facebook. So if you would like to attend, be sure to register now…Call 717-210-9945. How Much Is It to Attend the Arthritis Workshop? The event is FREE. No cost to you… ***PLUS as a Special Bonus, all attendees of the Arthritis Workshop will receive a Special Report: “The 7 Secrets to Permanent Relief for Arthritis.” Looking forward to seeing you there, Chad Madden, Physical Therapist – Paid Advertisement –

LDCTC, Police Honor Students Three sixth-graders at Lower Dauphin Middle School were recently recognized by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care (LDCTC) and Hummelstown Borough Police Department for their good deeds. Kylie Heim, Connor Duignan and Jace Ganly were throwing a football at recess with Hummelstown Police Officers Noah Kling and Jamie Kopinetz. During their impromptu football game, the students invited classmates with special needs to join the fun. Nominated by Kling, the sixth-graders were recognized
by LDCTC in the school cafeteria during lunch. They each received a gift card, a Do the Right Thing T-shirt and certificate, and a pizza coupon. This month’s program sponsor was B & B Pole Buildings. The Do the Right Thing program recognizes students in the Lower Dauphin community who have distinguished themselves through their accomplishments, attitude or outstanding efforts. Any adult over the age of 18 can nominate a child. For more information, readers may contact Angela Durantine at adurantine@ldsd.org.
Hummelstown Borough Police Officer Noah Kling (far left) nominated Lower Dauphin Middle School (LDMS) sixth-graders (continuing right) Connor Duignan, Jace Ganly, and Kylie Heim for recognition in the Do the Right Thing program. After being selected, they were recognized in a ceremony and congratulated by Kling; Angela Durantine (second from right), program director of Lower Dauphin Communities That Care; and Johnathon Breininger, LDMS assistant principal.
Transit Entities Plan Merger Capital Area Transit (CAT) and rabbittransit recently announced plans to merge into a single entity to be called the Susquehanna Regional Transportation Authority. The merger is intended to provide opportunities for increased levels of mobility and result in improved efficiencies for operations. The new, joint authority will be able to leverage the buying power of a larger organization, eliminate duplicative operations, and have greater opportunity to qualify for discretionary grants. As a result, CAT and rabbittransit intend to offer enhanced services, including a single fare payment system, expanded call center hours, improved connections to large regional employers, enhanced service to regional health care programs, and enhanced connectivity between campuses for students. The
merger will help avoid a proposed 40% reduction in service at CAT, which has been struggling financially. Additionally, it is not ex pected to have any impact on current bus drivers or mechanics at either agency. CAT and rabbittransit noted that in 2014, transit agencies in Berks and Lancaster counties went through a similar merger. The next step in the process is for the two authorities to hold public hearings on the proposal and then adopt resolutions. The CAT board of directors is set to meet on Thursday, Jan. 28, at noon, and the rabbittransit board of directors will meet on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. The public is invited to join by Zoom or phone. To register for the public hearing, community members may contact info@ rabbittransit.org or 800632-9063.

Frisby Participates In Parade Maria Frisby, who was Ms. Pennsylvania in 2004 and founded the Angels of Mercy, participated in the Harrisburg Reverse Holiday Parade at City Island in Harrisburg on Nov. 21. Also participating were Miss America local winners Miss Liberty Bell, Jenna Martorana, and Miss Liberty Bell’s Outstanding Teen, Maddie Matthews. This year’s parade was held as a reverse parade due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade participants were stationary while the attendees drove by in their vehicles to see the floats, characters, bands, beauty queens, dancers and organizations that were stationed along a loop around City Island. The parade drew thousands of attendees.
Through Angels of Mercy, Frisby reaches out to people who are sick, disabled, elderly and homeless. She is a graduate of Middletown Area High School; HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College; and Penn State University.

Health Centers Approve Merger Lancaster County’s two federally qualified health centers (FQHC) are merging to provide accessible, affordable, and integrated primary care, dental care, behavioral health, and social services throughout Lancaster and Lebanon. The boards of Lancaster Health Center and Welsh Mountain Health Centers unanimously approved the merger on Oct. 29 after months of due diligence and discussion. Lancaster Health Center, founded in 1972, has 178 staff members, an $18 million operating budget, and five Lancaster locations. These locations provide services to a total of more than 21,000 patients. Welsh Mountain Health Centers, founded in 1969, has 97 staff members, a $10.1 million operating budget, and five locations throughout Lancaster and Lebanon. These locations provide services to a total of more than 14,000 patients. Both organizations are recognized as patient-centered medical homes. A patient-centered medical home is defined by the National Committee for Quality Assurance as a
model of care that puts patients at the forefront of care, building better relationships between patients and their clinical care teams. Lancaster Health Center and Welsh Mountain Health Centers are part of a larger movement of FQHCs, which are communitybased, nonprofit organizations that provide comprehensive primary health care to patients in their community. FQHCs are created by individuals in a community coming together with a mission to improve access to primary medical care in an underserved area. Every Community Health Center is different, but they all care for patients in a community-oriented, culturally embracing setting, partnering with patients and their families to understand and respect each patient’s unique needs, culture, values, and preferences. The Lancaster County Community Foundation provided the two organizations with a $20,000 partnership grant to explore a merger. To learn more, readers may contact Nicole Specht at 717-945-1560 or nicole.specht@lanchc.org.
