Hope Within Dental is set to open on Wednesday, March 25, within the offices of Hope Within Ministries, 4748 E. Harrisburg Pike, Elizabethtown. Hope Within Ministries executive director Anne Marie McAlester said that free services at the dental clinic will be offered under the same eligibility guidelines as the free primary health care services that Hope Within Ministries offers to lowincome residents of Lancaster, Lebanon, and Dauphin counties who are medically uninsured. Each patient must fill out an eligibility application. Appointments must be scheduled in advance by calling 717-367-9797. McAlester said that Hope Within has received requests from individuals for dental service for years, and she is thrilled to now be offering those as the need is great. “We hope to tie together the link between medical and oral health for people,” commented McAlester. Hope Within Dental program coordinator Tina Nissly, who has her Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner license along with her Expanded Function Dental Assistant License, said that initially the services available onsite will include comprehensive exams, X-rays, cleanings, scaling and root planing, fillings, extractions, and sealants. Dentist Elena Guk of Lemoyne will serve as dental director. In addition to Nissly, dental hygienist Cheryl Grier of Your Visiting Hygienist, will work with patients who need dental services, as will dental assistant Ami Gould. Hope Within has also partnered with HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, and Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, which both offer dental hygiene programs. General practitioner dentists and dental hygienists are needed to volunteer their time and services at the clinic. Nissly said that Hope Within Dental is also in need of specialists, such as oral surgeons, endodontists, and periodontists, who are willing to have patients referred to their offices for treatment as needed. Dental professionals who are willing to volunteer in any capacity are encouraged to call Hope Within Ministries at 717-367-9797, email tina.nissly@hopewithin.org, or visit www.hopewithin.org. Thanks to the generosity of numerous businesses and individuals who have donated finances, equipment, supplies, and time, McAlester and Nissly said the dental wing is ready to go. However, additional donations will be accepted as there are still a few “wish list” items, such

It’s not inexpensive in any way, shape, or form,” noted Nissly. Monetary donations are being sought to purchase the consumables needed to provide dental services. Individuals and businesses interested in contributing toward the mission of Hope Within Dental may do so by visiting www.hopewithin.org. People may also support the work of Hope Within Ministries at the organization’s Ethiopian dinner and silent auction fundraiser, set to take place on Saturday, April 25, at Hershey Free Church, 330 Hilltop Road, Hummelstown. Tickets and event details will be available closer to the date. To stay informed about the latest happenings at Hope Within Ministries, readers may go to www.facebook.com/hopewithinministries. Historical Society Launches Capital Campaign The Hummelstown Area Historical Society has started a capital campaign, called the Hummelstown Preservation Fund, to preserve the Parish House and its history. This includes the restoration of damage on the first floor that resulted from an air conditioner leak, as well as repointing of the limestone exterior and repairs to the skylight. The exterior also needs a new coat of paint. The Parish House was built in 1815, is known as the oldest congregational building

in Hummelstown and was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1979. It serves as a museum for the historical society and houses an extensive collection of memorabilia and artifacts. Since 1971, the society has worked to preserve the building and meet the needs of its membership and community. Donations can be made through PayPal at www.hummelstownhistoricalsociety.org. For more information, readers may call Josie, the office manager, at 717-566-6314.

Elizabethtown Chapter, Order of DeMolay, is celebrating the 101st anniversary of the founding of the Order of DeMolay in Kansas City, Mo., in 1919 by Frank S. This special observance kicked off when Junior Councilor Mason Barrick and Past Master Councilor Adam Baker attended the Mount Joy Township supervisors’ meeting on Feb. 17, when the supervisors approved a proclamation recognizing March as DeMolay Month. Additionally, Master Councilor Martin Stoner and several members attended the Feb. 20 meeting of the Elizabethtown Borough Council, during which Mayor Clarence “Chuck” Mummert read a similar proclamation and he and the council members congratulated the young men for their community work. In recognition of the longtime support of Elizabethtown Chapter’s DeMolay Month celebrations over the years, the members presented the DeMolay International Medal of Appreciation to the Mount Joy Township supervisors and the Borough of Elizabethtown through the mayor and borough council. Additionally, while attending the Elizabethtown Borough meeting, Dan Robrish, editor of a local newspaper, was presented with the Medal of Appreciation for 10 years of support. Troop 97 from pg 1 the Scouts to correctly and quickly tie five basic knots while wearing gloves to increase the level of the difficulty. Scouts demonstrated preparedness and problem-solving skills at the Fire Building, Orienteering, First Aid, and Shelter Building stations. As a team, the Scouts had to rescue one of their own who was “trapped” on an ice flow. Using supplies only packed on their sled, the patrol had to administer first aid and

create a stretcher to transport the “victim.” While looking for traces of Bigfoot at the Tracks in the Wilderness station, the Scouts correctly identified animal tracks and markings. Team-building challenges included the Snowshoe Race, where four Scouts walked in tandem on one pair of snowshoes. One of the Scouts’ favorite stations was the Tomahawk Throw. The Klondike was planned and conducted by staff and volunteers at Hidden Valley.

Donations raised from the gala will support future programming for the organization in the capital region. Community outreach plans include scholarships to help lower-income students who are struggling to meet the financial demands of their training in any style of dance; partnerships with recreation departments to bring dance classes to underserved municipalities; community group educational presentations, such as Scout badge activities; after-school dance class programs with provided transportation; and in-school programming for schools that are cutting arts education funding. Tickets for the March 21 gala event are available at www.gantzfoundation.org. The group is seeking donors and sponsors to launch its programs that will enable youths in need to experience performance arts. It also seeks donations of items for the silent auction. The Betty J. Gantz Foundation for the Performing Arts will host its inaugural fundraising gala on Saturday, March 21, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the State Museum of Pennsylvania, 300 North St., Harrisburg. The event will feature a performance by Rising Tides Dance Company, the nonprofit’s resident dance ensemble, as well as a reception and a silent auction. The foundation, based in Middletown, was established as a charitable nonprofit organization in December 2019. The nonprofit is named in honor of the grandmother of co-founding director Sharon Hicks, who enjoyed the arts, and was instrumental in ensuring her granddaughter was able to pursue dance training. The organization aims to make dance education accessible to all people, especially children, who find joy in movement, regardless of factors such as age, body type, geographical location, and financial means.
