LDHS Class Of 2022 Graduates Lowe r Dau p h i n H i g h School (LDHS) celebrated its Class of 2022 during its 62nd commencement ceremony on June 9 at the Giant Center in Hershey. The ceremony also featured a perform a n c e o f “ D o n’ t Yo u Wo r r y, C h i l d ” by t h e Chamber Singers, a r ra n ge d by S h a m s Ahmed with music and lyrics by Swedish House Mafia. Students heard from salutatorian Conor Grubb and valedictorian Katherine Estes. Conor provided some encouragement and suggestions to his classmates. “You’ve got to live in the moment and cherish everything while you have it,” he emphasized. “Life seems to fly by if we
don’t stop and appreciate it.” “You’ve got to find what you love to do,” he continued. “Even if you didn’t love school or you don’t like your job, find something else that makes you happy. … I hope you will remember your ensembles, your casts, your teams, your clubs, your groups any of the things that brought you joy these last four years.” “Let’s not be dismissive of the
time, the friendships, the effort, the relationships, and the memories,” he urged. “We are who we are today thanks to the people and experiences that have taken us through these 12 years.” Katherine shared a story of when she tried to swallow a grape whole but instead ended up choking on it, which she noted could have changed the trajectory of her high school years. “For me, I think this little anecdote represents many lessons that are pertinent to our graduating class as we go out into the world,” she said. “As you go forward beyond high school, you will continue to make decisions and take steps every day,” she shared. “Don’t underestimate the little things in your daily life, because you never know what will make a big impact.” Katherine continued by emphasizing that her encounter with the grape was scary but brief. “Isn’t that how
many obstacles are in life - brief?” she said. “There is a lot to be said for having the stamina to push through what might seem like the end of the world in the moment.” Students also heard from Schultz, pri ncipal Justi n M. Hanula, and assistant principal Stephanie L. Vaughn, who delivered the final remarks after the Chamber Singers performed the alma mater. The LDHS band performed the recessional. M i d d l et ow n A r e a H i g h School (MAHS) held a commencement ceremony for its Class of 2022 on June 7 at 6 p.m. Following the ceremony, MAHS officially had 135 new alumni. D u r i n g t h e c e r e m o n y, students heard from superintendent Chelton Hunter,
principal Christopher Sattele, and Patrick Gallagher, MAHS Class of 2002, who wo r k s i n t h e O f f i c e o f University Advancement at Villanova University. Students were also addressed by three of their ow n . S a l u t at o r i a n L u c i a Caretti gave the student
welcome, recognizing that s he a n d he r c l as s m ates possess the trait of resili e n c e . “ We a r e s u c h a diverse group of people with differing interests and life paths. It may seem as if there is no individual quality to represent our class as a whole,” she admitted, adding, “However, that is untrue. Though our paths may be headed in different directions, one quality that we all collectively share is resili e n c e. We fac e d m a ny unforeseen obstacles within o u r h i g h s c h o o l ca re e rs together, and yet we were all able to adapt and persist.”
Class president Mason Swartz led into the turning o f t he tas se l s wi t h h i s speech. “It’s been an honor and a privilege to witness how we’ve all grown individually and as a class,” he stated. “While this ceremony marks the end of our t i me to get he r, t h i s a l s o
marks the beginning of a w h o l e new adve nt u re. … H owe ve r, r e g a rd l e s s o f where our journeys take us, we will always be able to trace back to this special moment we have shared together. We wi ll forever share these memories, we See MAHS pg 9

HHS Class Of 2022 Turns Tassels
Hershey High School (HHS) welcomed 290 new alumni with the graduation of the Class of 2022. Commencement was held on June 8 at 7 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey. The high school orchestra played “Pomp and Circumstance” as the students processed into the arena and later performed the alma mater and the recessional, “War March of the Priests” by Mendelssohn. A cantabile performance, “In Remembrance” by Ames, featured the Class of 2022, along with Nicholas Martin on the French horn and Brian Carl on the piano. Speakers at the ceremony included superintendent Stacy Winslow and HHS principal Lindsey Schmidt. “Hershey has a deep, rich tradition of principles and values,” Schmidt said. “While we have shaped them, nurtured them, and imagined them during your schooling, now it is your time to reimagine your traditions. Those traditions have been given to you by Hershey High School, Derry Township School District, your community, your families, and your heritage. Now is the time to build on what you’ve become over the last 13 or so years. You can reinvent it. You can redesign it. You can certainly upgrade it. You can be You 2.0. And you can leave these new and even better traditions with everyone you meet. This is your legacy.” Students who took the podium were class president Mofifoluwa Oladipo, Academic
MAHS from pg 4
Honoree Speaker Marissa Kopec, and Faculty’s Choice Speaker Ece Aydogan. Oladipo highlighted the resilience and perseverance her class has exhibited and how those traits will serve graduates well. “In the last few years, we have been forced to grow up in preparation for the next phase of our lives,” she stated. “Starting something new will take its toll on all of us, but we are a strong class. We have not had it easy throughout our years of high school. If anything, we have proved that in the face of adversity we will prevail, and from this moment on, everythi ng we know wi ll change.” Kopec suggested how to find the pathway to happiness. “No matter how much we will it so, happiness is not something that is earned, worn, consumed, or owned,” she emphasized. “It is gratitude that is the gateway to joy.” Aydogan focused on the role that past experiences play in molding people. “Every single moment and version of our past selves has shaped us into the human beings we are today, ready to succeed and conquer the obstacles of the future - ready to embrace new opportunities and excel in situations that we have yet to encounter,” she said. “Our past hardships, wanted or not, develop strength and resilience within ourselves.” To watch the ceremony, visit https:// tinyurl.com/HHS2022commencement.
will forever connect our experiences at MAHS, and we will forever be united as Middletown Blue Raiders.” Valedictorian Sara Dintiman gave the student farewell. “Fi nally, we’ve crossed the fi nish line!” she exclaimed. “Not a single one of us here has accomplished this alone. We are a collection of the ones who love us, the coaches who have pushed us, the teachers who have helped us, and the young girl or boy in each of us.” “As I was writing this speech, I tried to look
for outside inspiration - someone who we could all look up to as we take this next step in our lives,” she continued. “But I see inspiration among us. I see a group of students who have faced obstacles and difficulties and persevered despite them. … In this next chapter of your lives, whenever you feel unworthy or doubt yourself, know that you have already accomplished amazing things and that you have the power to do something great.” The new alumni and the audience concluded the ceremony by singing the alma mater, which concludes with the following: “Songs of gladness, hope inspiring / Do within these walls
resound / So for thee we’ll swell the chorus / Hail to Middletown!” To view the commencement ceremony, search for “MAHS Graduation 2022” on YouTube. Facts: Class officers: Mason Swartz, president; Vincent Corradi, vice president; Emma Mitchell, secretary; Skylar Garza, treasurer Class colors: blue and gold Class song: “22” by Taylor Swift Class flower: bluebells Class adviser: Jose Ortiz Class counselor: Cheryl Friedman Class motto: “Not the end, but just the beginnng.”

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is the Commonwealth’s highest court and the oldest appellate court in the nation. The Judiciary Act of 1722 created the Supreme Court as a permanent body with authority over both appeals and trials, although its roots go back to the provincial court established in 1684. The court has full administrative authority over all aspects of Pennsylvania’s judicial system and may also hear cases involving issues of immediate public importance that arise in the commonwealth. The commemoration will highlight the court’s unique role and how its decisions affect every Pennsylvanian. Information about the history of the court and upcoming commemorative events celebrating its 300th anniversary is available at www.pacourts.us.
